Open the Mac App Store application and see if iPhoto is under your "Purchases" tab.

I have purchased Lightroom 5 and had it installed but I had to replace my matchbook pro and now I can't find the activation key - is there a way I can get it emailed to me or how do I find it? Most other plugin's email out the activation key so you have a copy but I have seen no way to get it.

If you registered your Lightroom with Adobe after you installed it, you can log into your Adobe account and get your serial number from your account.

I am trying to convert a PDF to a Word document using Acrobat Pro 9 but am unable to find "Content to edit" under tools.  Do I need a newer version?

Acrobat 9 Pro (not Standard) can export ("convert") PDF to Word, RTF, or other text formats.
    Click-path:  File - Export
    Take your pick.
With install of Acrobat 9 the Help PDF is installed also.
From the this PDF's Bookmarks expand Chapter 5's bookmark and select "Convert PDFs to Word".
    Be well...

  • MacBook Pro Early 2008 won't go to sleep after upgrade to Mavericks

I have a MacBook Pro that is of the Early 2008 variety. Ever since I upgraded to OS X Mavericks two nights ago, it will no longer go to sleep. This is with me using either the power button or directly selecting sleep from the Apple menu. All that happens is it blanks the screen. If I hit a key it turns the screen on and asks for password. With screen off I can definitely hear the fans and harddrive still in operation. I have to shut down to make it turn off. How to fix this??

As soon as you wake up your display, launch Terminal from your Applications > Utilites folder and enter the following command.
    pmset -g
in the resulting text, is there a reason next to sleep that says what activity is preventing it from sleeping?
    eg:
sleep                20 (sleep prevented by mds, UserEventAgent)
Then in System Prefernces > Energy Saver, does clicking on Restore Defaults resolve the issue?
(This will reset any preset settings, but it may also clear the issue for you)

  • I've lost iPhoto after upgrading to Mavericks. I try downloading and it says I have an older version then doesn't give me an option to do anything?

I'm trying to download the new version of iPhoto when I upgraded to OSX Mavericks. It's telling me that I have an old version of iPhoto but yet not giving me an option to download new. Any ideas on what may be the problem?

What version of iPhoto do you have?
If you have any version of iPhoto '11 then version 9.5.x is a free update - if you own an earlier version of iPhoto ('09 or earlier) then you must pruchae iPhoto '11 version 9.5.x in the app store

I bought a barely used MacBook pro and I have an old MacBook. Is there a way to make the MacBook Pro as a new out of the box computer, so I can send all my data to the "new" computer?

The Migration Assistant doesn't erase anything - it migrates or transfers data from one Mac to another, but it is a good idea to update your Mac's backup you will be migrating or transferring the data to before doing so to be on the safe side.

What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

I just got a used macbook pro and want to restore to factory settings....how do i do this safely?

Click here and follow the instructions. If the computer originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, when you reach step 5, insert its original disk, restart with the C or Option key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a fresh OS.

  • Anyone using Login Pro and PowerCore Firewire

I have a G5 dual 2 gig with 4 gigs or RAM, 2 x 160 LaCie HD, RME Firewire 800 and PowerCore Firewire. I have been having issues with PowerCore losing connection, plug-ins load and are disabled, and total system lockups.
For testing, I removed all audio IO drives and used internal audio, remove all midi drives and I am still having the same issues. Anyone using Login Pro and ProwerCore Firewire successfully?

I am on the same machine as you. Most of my problems (similar to what you report) have been due to the driver/software of the Powercore. Luckily for you, TC doesn't have phone support, so you can be spared the immediate relief you don't want and wait the 48 hours for a general email response that says you get to wait another 48 hours until someone gets back to you.
That said, Powercore FW works fine for me. It sounds like you are using a lot of FW devices, which might also contribute to your problem. I've found that you can actually overtax the FW ports on G5's to the point where they stop working properly, causing random connection loss.
Does the powercore connect through any other device?
Trying unplugging your LaCie's and see if that helps.

  • Just bought a used mac pro and it has 4 video cards?

Hi all, I just bought a used mac pro and it has 4 Geforce 7300 GT video cards in it. Why would it have 4? Is it just to display on 8 monitors, or can OSX use the power of each card? Is there anything I can do to take advantage of these extra cards? sell them?!

No, OS X cannot combine the four cards. All they are good for is to connect 8 monitors. If you don't plan to do that then you're better off removing three of them (only the upper three.) This will save energy - roughly 50-75 watts per card - and the computer will be cooler.

  • I have recently downloaded final cut pro and i'm unable to access cinema tools. I understood this would be a free addition when purchasing FCPX?

i have recently downloaded final cut pro and i'm unable to access cinema tools. I understood this would be a free addition when purchasing FCPX?

Thanks for responding Tom. Yes I was trying to conform frame rates, I found a few threads/youtube tutorials that all used cinema tools. Now I've spent some time in FCPX I can see where you can conform.
    Appreciate your help.

  • I have a macbook pro and the software with snow leopard only has upgraded to 10.5.8, do I need to purchase mountain lion to upgrade to 10.6.8?

I have a macbook pro and the software with snow leopard only has upgraded to 10.5.8, do I need to purchase mountain lion to upgrade to 10.6.8?

Your machine likely can't handle Mountain Lion 10.8 nor 10.7, if it does it will run slow and very higly likely a lot of your third party software and drivers for printers and scanners won't function anymore.
It's because your 10.5 era (or earlier) machine is rather dated, hardware has advanced and is faster, the newer OS X versions have gotten bloated.
I do recommend you call Apple via phone and order the 10.6.3 white retail disks, backup your personal data off the 10.5.8 Mac to a external storage drive and when the disk arrives, stick it in and run the upgrade installer.
Once that's finished, reboot and use Software Update to get to 10.6.8 and stay there. You can buy stuff from AppStore, just don't upgrade to 10.8 (or 10.7) as thats when you'll have issues.
10.6 should run your currrently installed PPC software and hardware drivers. But 10.7/10.8 will not.
10.6 is receiving security and other updates from Apple as more than 50% of OSX users are still on it.

  • HT4718 after upgrading to Mavericks, i can't use Pro Tools   ***

after upgrading to Mavericks, i can't use my pro tools, and none of my iTunes files are there. what the ****? I want to revert back to snow leopard.
PLEASE ADVISE!!!! I'm in a panic!!
I was very happy with Snow Leopard, and then I tried to get an app to design my Christmas cards. The computer told me, i had to upgrade to Mavericks to use it.
Now everything is a complete disaster!

I was not prompted to make a clone, so i dont have one. I downloaded an upgrade of pro tools that is alleged to work with mavericks, but it does not.
I can't find any of my music files, iTunes downloads, documents, etc... But, all the software i purchased to work within pro tools is there. Im so confused.
Im PC, i have never downloaded an upgrade that made all my files disappear. This is totally unacceptable.
