I'm using yahoo email on firefox but cannot download or save doc file attachments

Emails that I have received on my yahoo account contain attachments, saved as word documents or powerpoint or pdf files. Today, when I tried to download these files, the daownloading software could not recognise the file format in any of the files (I tried with twenty different files), and therefore could not download or save the files. The pop up window simply states "Resolving...." and does not change at all.
Please assist me to download file attachments on emails that come through yahoo, when I use Firefox as my browser.

You mentioned in a different thread that you cannot download Flash without deleting Internet Explorer. That should not be necessary. Anyway, your "More System Details" shows that you have Flash 12 installed, so you shouldn't need to reinstall it unless we determine that it is really broken.
When on the problem site, do you see a notification icon to the left of the address, up in the address bar? It would look like a piece of Lego. Could you click that and see whether it indicates anything about the status of Flash, or any other plugin?

Recently, I found that when I checked my Yahoo emails in Firefox that I would get a blank screen with no email content showing. However, when I use Internet Explorer and open the same email message, I can view the contact. I'm assuming this changed after an automatic update. Upgrade to 10.9.4 messed up yahoo email on firefox

I have a new macbook pro that came with system 10.9.3. About one week ago I upgraded to 10.9.4 and now my yahoo email in firefox changed from little boxes to numbers. I will post a screen shot picture below.
My macbook pro is a standard with 500 gigs of ram and 8 gigs of ram.
Is anyone else having this problem or does anyone know how to fix it? My email on my 2010 iMac (system 10.6.8) viewed on firefox is fine.

Thanks Davis, yes necessary question, although yesterday I was away from any accessible connection other than my iphone's so I could not answer right away.
So I went to a McDo... and saw the same behaviour. Then, having simultaneous access to internet through their Wifi & my phone (internet sharing is blocked during phone conversations), I could call Applecare...
Took them some time (and technical escalation) to figure out some application in the background (possibly confused by the OS upgrade) could be blocking the mail app in its attempts to connect to the mail servers.
Resolution went as follows:
1- reboot in "pure" or "no failure" mode, i.e., without any extension started (boot with Shift key pressed -- I didn't know about that)
2- see that mail app is now working (relief++ ;-)
3- suppress any application not obviously needed (of which one was a poor CRM software I bought and then had trouble remove a year ago and forgot about... as it had a mail plug-in, it might be the culprit... anyway I trashed it along with a couple other unneeded applications)
4- reboot in normal mode
=> see mail working
As always it looks easy once resolved. As no parameter was changed, and seeing all connection attempts failing at mail app level (but not in, say, safari), it was clear that the mail app itself was malfunctioning. Yet, the upgrade was not supposed to directly interact with mail. The catch was then the plug-in or any other software possibly using shared mail services...
As we removed a handful of applications, I will not name the supposed culprit, although I think it was the only likely candidate (as the others were at least in apparence very inoffensive -- such as a file conversion utility -- but who knows ;-)

You can't use File > Open File to process server side includes. That will only work if you use File > Open Location and if there is a server that can process the file. If you use File > open File then you open that file directly in Firefox (bypassing a server) and only the HTML code will be processed and not SSI code.

Is FF downloading the file as a .txt file? If so, go to "Folder Options" in the windows control panel. Click on the "File Types" tab. Scroll down until you reach the TXT file extension. Look to see what that extension opens with (lower part of panel). It probably shows notepad. Click on the <Change> button. Scroll down until you find "Microsoft Word." Select it and click the <OK> button. That should show the TXT extension is now associated with Microsoft Word. Click the <Close> button at the bottom of the panel.
If FF is downloading the file as any other type, use the same process as above except look for the corresponding extension instead. If the extension is not listed click on the <New> button and create an association using the extension in the file name and then associate it with MS Word.
