I'm very pleased

Forums like this tend to be filled mostly with issues and complaints, so I thought I'd try inject a positive vibe here....
Though I did have a couple hurdles to overcome with my new iPod Touch, it is working very well for me, and I have very few complaints. I know the Touch is marketed as an MP3/Media player, but it really is so much more than that. I see it as the latest generation of PDA that has huge potential. With a user interface that's easy, intuitive, and great-looking, and with WiFi that's seamless once you understand it, the Touch really is amazingly easy and productive.
I'm really looking forward to when the SDK comes out, because I'm anxious to see what innovative and interesting apps will be developed and made available. The "unofficial" world of iPhone/iPod Touch apps is proving that the iPhone/iPod Touch can be transformed into even more productive and entertaining devices. I'm anxious to see how Apple handles app distribution, and how Apple markets the extendability.
As a long-time user and proponent of Palm OS PDA's, to me, the iPod Touch is really what Palm PDA's should have become. After using the iPod Touch for just a couple weeks now, I can say that Palm has a very long way to go to catch up. And the bar will be raised even more once new apps are available.
Now, if Apple would only market it as more than an MP3/Media player....

Omnibus,
I actually went both ways with this. I did JB my new iPod Touch, and I have to admit that I was blown away by the number of available applications. (Apache on an iPod Touch, anyone?!?) But seriously, when firmware v1.1.3 was released, I decided to revert from JB back to stock v1.1.3.
Yes, I Realize that JB is a fairly taboo subject here, but in this context, I think it is important to note that to me, because the SDK is coming out soon, I'm confident that we will see lots of new and useful applications in the coming months. I believe that the number of apps written for JB is a HUGE indication of both the capability of the iPod Touch and the ability of developers. Given that distribution through iTunes will likely optionally give developers a source of revenue, it should be a great incentive to develop.
So, I can understand first hand the alure of JB, but there's certainly something to be said about following Apple's path.

  • Very pleased and disappointed with WRT1900AC

I am very pleased, and very disappointed with this device.
I live in a three story townhouse, built using metal grids and plaster.  The WAP is performing flawlessly on both bands, except for a couple of lockups when trying to reconfigure.
The problem is that the salesman gave me a bunch of dodo;  He said:
    1.  the router supported Network Syslog;  it doesn't support syslog.
    2. the router supported ssh access;  it does not
    3. the router supported VPN;  not
    4. the router would support wifi access and configuration via mobile app;  not
I pre-ordered the device before it was available because it sounded so good;  I guess I should have known better;  if it sounds too good to be true, it isn't.

I would have talked to Linksys support first or come to the forums. Salesman will tell you almost anything to make a sale. I tend to not trust salesmen. Always ask Mfr support or ask other users in the forums.

  • Very Pleased With Book Quality

Just received 17 copies of a 32 page hardback book (modern lines theme) of digital photographs my students at German Swiss International School in Hong Kong put together a couple of weeks ago. Used Aperture 2.1.2 and had been just a little concerned about what the quality might be like after reading a few posts in this forum...but I'm really very pleased with them all! The books look exactly as I had wanted and I'm sure the students will be delighted.
Will definitely be using this service again and will be encouraging staff and students at the school to do the same.

I happen to chime in and notice that there are some discussion related to Blurb BookSmart and Blurb book.
Here is my advice... be cautious. To produce a better book outcome, be SURE that you have calibrated your monitor. Or the output looks misery.
Also, be sure to download the ICC print profile for Blurb's outsourced printers that use HP Indigo printer and be sure to soft proof the images in Photoshop. I know it sounds like lot of work involved, but the dividend pay off nicely... along with time, effort, patience.
For those who prefer to use Adobe InDesign and Photoshop to do custom full-bleed design, it can be done with Blurb. The catch is that you need to use Blurb Booksmart app to import all of finished full-bleed layout design you created in InDesign and Photoshop (or even Illustrator).
There are lot of pretty nice helpful information and pointers with frame of references all over at Blurb Forums as well.
    Hope that helps.

I have just got my iPad2 and am very pleased with it. I have a question regarding the monthly (recommended) battery full charge.  Should I let the battery completely die down to nothing at all before I plug in to recharge or would this complete drain be bad for my iPad?

It's not bad for it - on this page www.apple.com/batteries/ipad.html it says :
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

  • Very pleased w/ "Travel Theme"  iPhoto Large Hardback Book

Yes, I am very pleased. Used iPhoto 5.0.4. Transmitted via a Disney (Orlando) Hotel ethernet at 3am. The connection was slow and I awoke to a dead battery...Yet very successful. No problems. Excellent quality of paper, printing, binding and packaging. Shipping was from California.
I had set DPI to 300 w/ prefsetter. I changed several fonts w/o problems.
I did not know about the potential page number option problem in the Travel Theme. (I did not even know there was an option.) I had several full bleeds. Again, no problems.
Maybe the bugs are out now. I hope no one hesitates to use the Travel theme.

  • I'm VERY pleased with my 1st MacBook Pro!

Often people post to complain about issues. i just wanted to post a message stating that i am very pleased with my MacBook Pro w/ Retina and 8GB RAM.
I switched from a Windows based system to my first Mac in December.  I use my laptop every day. I have not had a single issue with the MacBook up to this point.
I was able to print using my old Canon printer and even found a little app for my Omron BP Monitor which only comes with Windows software.
The MacBook Pro is a beautiful piece of technology.  Hopefully, it continues to be a smooth ride for me.

    Enjoy it.
    Best.

  • Very Pleased With My Apple Books

Just wanted to post and say how pleased I am with my recent Apple book order. Last week, I received 2 copies of a hard cover book that I spent over 3 weeks working on and I couldn't be more pleased, especially after reading of all the issues folks have had lately.
It was photos from a terrific 2 week trip to Sicily my wife & I took in September with our sister-in-law & her husband. Both couples were celebrating wedding anniversaries along with my birthday, so it was a very special event for us to say the least. We traveled all over the island and I wanted to make a book for us to remember it.
I have done books in the past - from 2003 on using iPhoto 3 thru iPhoto 6 for numerous vacations to national Parks, family events but I have to say this was simply the BEST.
The details of the book were 42 pages with 130 photos in many different page layouts using the Travel Theme. After working on it for several hours, I would save as a Print To PDF and then review my work in the 2 Page up mode to make sure the travel theme, placements, picture selection and text was satisfactory.
For the record, the quality of my digital images going in was excellent as pictures were shot on a 10 MP Sony A100, in RAW format, used Aperture to edit down to a total of 130 for this Sicily 2007 Book.
We had them delivered in time for the family to see at Thanksgiving and everyone was completely blown away by the quality etc. Since then we have taken it to show friends and folks who were interested in Sicily, photography etc and they are very impressed.
I had looked at Ritz & others after reading of the many issues others but decided to stay with iPhoto 8 and Apple for this one and extremely pleased I did. Now on to creating several other books that were in the pipeline!

No, you cannot do this with iPhoto. You'll need an external editor to do this:
    Acorn
    Graphic Coverter
    Photoshop Elements
are three - the first two have generous trial periods before you need to purchase, so you can check them out thoroughly.

  • Very Pleased!

My 13 year old has a new iPod Touch for his birthday. He wanted an XBox 360, but I decided that this was a better choice for the $. He was puty at first until he got it in his hands. He is thrilled!
He has already put on songs, a movie and posted to his myspace account and is off bragging and showing it off to his friends. The touch screen is very intutive. He got on and started doing things ASAP.
We did have trouble at first connecting to our wifi. However, I restarted the modem while it was connected then all was well. It is amazing at how fast the internet works.
It has sold me on getting an iPhone......

    Sara,
While getting it engraved is some protection, having it synced to a Mac will not help at all. It is quite quick and easy to do a complete restore of the iPod's software from either a Mac or a PC, and It's all gone with the theif's music now on the iPod.
It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is. I hope your son enjoys his iPod, but please tell him to be careful with it. Losing an iPod can be very painful, especially when he is so happy with it and it becomes a personal treasure.
    Best of luck.

  • Very pleased with New Macbook

Hi Everyone, I just recently (August 4th) bought my very first Mac. I was researching and brousing laptops for about 2 months and being an avid PC user I wanted to try something different and refreshing.
I was looking for a laptop for college. Mainly because my first year at UC Santa Cruz I dished out most of my summer job savings on a Gaming\Media PC and was left labtopless for an academic year. Now a new summer job is in session and I saved up enough cash to purchase a laptop for my second upcoming year at my Univeristy.
The new Macbook definitely caught my eye. It was perfectly priced and since I attend a University that free iPod Nano and educational discount was a sweet deal. I'm glad I held off one year to get a labtop, it totally paid off. Though it was kinda a pain to not have a laptop durring college, I managed very well with my Gaming PC, doing essays and late night coding and programming assignments. Hehe..
The Mac's OS is pretty sweet with all the visual eye candy and its super user friendly setup - its hard not to fall in love with it. Even though I still use my PC for HD Media and Gaming, (I love my PC to death since I built it from scatch) I find my self using my new Macbook for email, work, school, iChat, brousing the net, etc.
My new Macbook is simply amazing. I've had it for about one week and I've had absolutely no problems with it what so ever. It runs cool acording to this forum's standards, currently 41 C at room temperature and 35 C in my air conditioned room. Initially the mouse button on the trackpad would get stuck for a fraction of a second when you pressed it dead in the center but that little annoyance fixed itself as soon as I started using my Macbook more and more often and now it works perfectly. The battery works fine. All the app's run great. No crashes, no random reboots, nothing... yet. Though I will be dual booting Windows XP Pro soon.. See how that goes.
It really hurts to see so many people getting frustrated with their Macbooks.. I really wish that their situations would turn out to be more like mine. My compassion and sympathy go out to you all and I hope that soon, real soon, Apple fixes and irons out all the problems and that you become happy and satisfied with your Macbooks.
As a first-time Apple product user, it kinda worries me to hear and read about all the neglect that some long-time Apple users are receiving from apple care and public relations. I really hope this doesn't reflect the whole company as a whole. It would really dissapoint me if at this time of becoming a new Apple user, the Apple company started giving the cold shoulder and becoming disconnected from its customers. In my eyes Apple seemed to be that loving and customer caring company that tried its very best to become near and dear to its customers by providing unmatched quality products to it's loyal customer fan base. I really hope they don't veer away from this mind set.
Anyways the upshot is, I just wanted my first post to reflect how I feel about Apple and my Macbook and restablish some confidence in the Macbook. From my experience it's a great quality product and I hope to enjoy it for a long time. You guys will definitely get any updates as I use my Macbook and be hearing from me more often.. I've been reading a lot on this particualr forum but have been quiet untill now. Thanks for reading..

  • Very pleased with ordered hardcover book

I just wanted to post that I received my first hardcover book from Apple yesterday, which I created in Aperture 1.5.
After reading a large # of postings on this forum regarding less than stellar results seen by others, I wasn't sure what to expect. There are many reports of the cover photo looking good, but the pages looking poor (washed out, faded, etc). I decided to try one for myself.
What I found was that the book's colors were absolutely beautiful, and matched my system (fully calibrated display, etc) perfectly. The overall quality of the cover, paper, etc are excellent and I would certainly not hesitate to create/order another book.
This is the first book I created/ordered and is a 99-page hardcover, so I had my fingers crossed that the money ($100 plus shipping) wouldn't be wasted. I can honestly say that it exceeded my expectations.
I just wanted to share my 2-cents for others who may be sitting on the fence with similar hesitancy that I originally had.
    best regards,
    Tom

    Hi,
Regarding calibrating your display, there are probably a lot of posts on this forum, or even on www.dpreview.com (great site for digital photography, and its forums) that probably go into a lot of detail with many different suggestions on hardware options, etc... If you do a search on "calibrating displays" I'm sure you'll find enough info to keep you busy for quite some time
For my display I use a "Monaco Optix XR" setup (calibration hardware/software) which is pretty straightforward to use. In essence, you attach the calibration sensor to a USB port of your computer, launch the software and it runs through a series of different different color patches on the display and uses the sensor to "read" the colors. From this, it creates a new "profile" which you then re-name and store in the profiles directory on your system. This new profile is then referenced on the system for all color management related items. That's a really simplified, high level description of what really happens under the hood, but for most users the process is pretty easy to follow. Most systems give very good step by step instructions on how to use them.
The link to the Optix XR can be found at:
    http://www2.chromix.com/colorgear/?-session=SessID:4A4B1D1A0a0f820F7Dmkt2DE08A7
Good luck, and hope this helped.

  • Very Pleased Aperture Customer

Ok, so there are a lot of posts about the faults of Aperture, so I thought I would chime in on the fact I really like Aperture, for what I bought it for.
Let me first say that I had been using iPhoto and Photoshop Elements up until now. To be honest I found Photoshop CS2 intimidating, and really overkill for what I wanted to do. But with the new D80, I wanted to be able to shoot in RAW, and handle it better than iPhoto can (or is designed to). I don't need the power of Photoshop at my current skill level.
The other feature I needed was the ability to version files. Mostly for the ability to crop for printing and web without having to duplicate the actual image in iPhoto. One can argue that $300 is to much to pay for this, but I disagree. This was honestly the only 2 reasons I bought Aperture. Maybe there is an app out there to do it, but I love Apple and their tools so I decided it was worth it.
I live in Sweden, and I had my brother in law purchase the program for me, and in the meantime Apple decided to release the trial version. So I have been using it now for 5 days, and I have really grown to love the application.
I am sure there are things wrong, and it will never replace PS (in it's current form) but for the money I find it to be great for what I need.
Let me be honest and say I am not a professional photograper at all. But I really am loving playing with this and trying new things with the camera.
So, thanks to Apple for this great upgrade to iPhoto!
    Chris

I've actually never used that feature - so I gave it a go.
I chose various images in a project where some are cropped, some are not, some masters are RAW, some are JPEGs.
Printed contact sheet with the default sample preset to PDF...and lo and behold! Several of the images are distorted.
So, yes, I have to say: problem confirmed here as well.
Pity, I was so pleased when I exported the previously troublesome JPEGs without the distorted lines on them.

  • Very Pleased then Very Disapointed.

I had a problem with the silver bezel not fitting correctly on my phone and the bottom right edge was very pronounced and sharp, i called Apple and they suggested visiting my local store (UK), I turned up at 12:30 and they made an appointment to see their "Genius" in 2 hours, not too long as i had other stuff to do in town, I arrived at my appointed time and the technician looked at my phoned and confirmed it was a design fault and said he would replace it right away i was amazed, he asked if i had a backup to which i answered yes and then proceeded to wipe my phone, he hooked it up for a few mins to get enough charge to swap the sim and authorize it. I left the shop a very happy chappy and rushed home to get it all sorted, I connected it up and was presented with an option to set up a new phone or restore from a backup, I received an error message and assumed it was because the backup was from 1.1.3 and the new phone was back to 1.1.2, i called apply support and asked what i could do, the chap did not know he made a few suggestions one of which was to create a new account on my PC and then log in as that update the phone then switch back to old user and restore, i did this but when i logged in as me there was no prompt to restore, i called back and he said unfortunately the backup was now lost, i was very disappointed, the shop service was impeccable but the phone support was at best flaky

    MarkJames wrote:

Do you mean that he "authorised" the new replacement? I'm not sure what this means. The new iPhone can only be activated by you on iTunes.
I connected it up and was presented with an option to set up a new phone or restore from a backup, I received an error message
    What was the error message?
but when i logged in as me there was no prompt to restore
You can manually try a restore, and you should be prompted whether you want to use the last sync backup.
Also, did the update to 1.1.3 proceed correctly? Check in settings>general>about to see what version you are currently running.

  • 970 Gaming Very Pleased

Just joined the forum and wanted to share my experience... I hope I posted in the right section.
The 970 is my first MSI product and so far I am very impressed with the board.
I built my son a gaming rig for his Birthday ( spec's of build in my sig) and chose this board for it's price/performance value and I could not be happier.
Bios is a breeze to navigate, overclocking the FX-6300 to 4.5GHz was pretty simple.
My only gripe is the lack of Load Line Calibration.... The board does suffer from vdroop and while a bump in vcore will solve the problem I don't like pumping extras volts to the chip when it is sitting idle or surfing the web.
Will there be a bios revision to add LLC or is this something reserved for higher priced boards?
Anyhow regardless I am very satisfied with my first MSI board and will be looking at a X99 for my new Intel build later this month.

It's a pretty common problem with AMD 970 motherboards. The voltage regulation just isn't as stringent as it is for Intel boards.
I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you start overclocking heavily. At that point, it's probably time to consider a higher end motherboard anyway, to be honest.
    But good choices all around.
