I'm wondering about the effects of power surges on a MacBook

I'm getting a new camp, and I want to bring my laptop to it. Unfortunately it probably has power surges on a regular basis, and I would like to know if that will affect it.

Power surges aren't good for any computer. You should make sure you've plugged it in to a good surge suppressor. It would probably be wise to have a spare power cable as well, as the only part I've ever lost in the power system of any Mac laptop has been the power cable... I've had a couple of the bricks on the ends get fried, but was lucky enough that the computer was just fine.

I found this  (TS3579: If the wrong date or time is displayed in some apps on your Mac Learn about If the wrong date or time is displayed in some apps on your Mac) useful because I did not know about the effect of typing in data and that you could only drag to rearrange the data.  I had typed in data before and this had caused problems but restoring defaults did not cause correct dates to show up in Finder.

It sounds like there are a couple things going on here.  First check if you have a successful install of SQL Server, then we'll figure out the connection issues.
Can you launch SQL Server Configuration Manager and check for SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) if default instance or SQL Server (other name) if you've configured your instance as a named instance.  Once you find this, make sure the service is started.
If not started, try to start it and see if it throws an error.  If you get an error, post the error message your hitting.  If the service starts, you can then launch SSMS and try to connect.  If you have a default instance, you can use the machine
name in the connection dialog.  Ex:  "COWBOYS" where Cowboys is the machine name.  However, if you named the SQL Server instance during install, you'll need to connect using the machine\instance format.  Ex:  COWBOYS\Romo (where Romo
is the instance name you set during install).
You can also look at the summary.txt file in the SQL Server setup error logs to see what happened on the most recent install.  Past install history is archived in the log folder if you need to dig those up to help troubleshoot, but the most
recent one may help get to the bottom of it if there is an issue with setup detecting a prior instance that needs to be repaired.

i'm glad to hearing from you .

For 2 months you get 100GB data free each month having topped £10 to buy the initial pack. Thereafter it becomes an ordinary PAYG SIM where you just make calls /texts against your credit or buy packs.

  • Questions about the Lenovo Slim Power Tip Notebook Adapter (part: 0B47048)

Does anyone know what the female port on this power tip looks like? Is it a usb port, or something proprietary? I need to make a cable that will connect my laptop to a legacy charger, and for some reason lenovo doesn't sell that in the US.
Using this adapter for the slim male power tip is my cheapest option to start with.
    Thanks!

What do you mean by Legacy charger? you mean the round barrel charger head?

  • What is the recommeded automobile power adapter for a macbook air?

    subject says it all.

    Hi Ross,
As there's no official "Apple branded" model, you're looking at 3rd party solutions.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW696LL/A
Kensington makes one that's pretty good, I've used it. I will add, that all the reviews that complain about the fan noise are spot on. It's pretty noisy but it's certainly not something that a little radio/XM/CD can't handle.

  • Heading to Russia and wondering about the Macbook pro's care.

Hi, I will be heading to Russia this January and I was wondering if my mac would be fine in my bag if the weather will be bellow 40 degrees fahrenheit? Also what is the hottest temperature would it be fine in?

    Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
    Storage temperature: –13° to 113° F (–24° to 45° C)
Good luck - we've a few Russian's on this board - maybe one of them will share their experiences.

  • About the Zen Touch power adapte

I bought a Zen Touch off Ebay and realized after I bought it, that it didn't come with a power adapter! It does come with a USB cable and they said you can charge it via computer. My question is: Is there any power adapter that can fit the zen touch? Can i just buy it at wal-mart? Or is there another product that has the same tip as the zen touch?
    Thanks

  • About the effect for batch level conversion from material to plant level

    Dears,
Now  we use batch management at material level in our system, now we want to change to batch level from material level to plant level, what effects or risks it will bring during the process of conversion?
    Thanks a lot
    Zhongkai

    Hi
check the following SAP help link it is very helpful:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_40b/helpdata/es/d2/1d4b6e5733d1118b3f0060b03ca329/content.htm
at the link you can find the following
Specify batch level and activate status management
In this IMG activity, you specify the following:
the level at which batch numbers are unique
whether batch status management is active in the client
the plants in which batch status management is active
the initial status of new batches
    Batch level
Batch numbers can be unique at the following levels:
    at plant level
    at material level
at client level for a material
If you choose plant level, the batch number is unique in conjunction with the respective material and the plant. If you choose material level, the batch number is unique together with the material. At client level, the batch number is unique in the whole client.
To change the batch level, you have to start a conversion program. This program first checks whether conversion is possible and outputs an error log containing all batch numbers that occur more than once at the new level. Now you need to manually transfer these batch records to numbers within Inventory Management using a transfer posting 'material to material'.
If you change the level from plant level to a higher level, it is possible that batches with the same batch numbers in different plants are actually identical. In this case, all you have to do is remove stocks (including previous period stocks) so that all batches with the same batch numbers, except one, can be reorganized.
When you convert from plant level to material level, the material is then to be handled in batches in all plants in which it is defined.
    Standard settings
In the standard R/3 System, batches are unique at plant level.
    Activities
To change the batch level, proceed as follows:
          1. Choose the level at which you want your batches to be unique.
          2. Save the new settings and choose Back.
          3. Select function Batch level -> Conversion.
          4. If necessary, carry out the conversion in test mode first.
    Further notes
Note that you cannot reset conversion from plant level to a higher level in the standard.
If you create a client by copying an existing client, initially, there are no settings in the target client at batch level. The system makes the settings in the target client only when you have carried out an activity (maintaining master data or posting a goods movement, for example).
    SETTINGS BEFORE/AFTER CLIENT COPY:
    Source client Target client
    Client level Material level
    Material level Material level
    Plant level Plant level
    Batch status management
Batch status management is an additional function provided by the standard R/3 System.
    Standard settings
Batch status management is not active in the standard R/3 system.
    Activities
To activate batch status management, proceed as follows:
          1. Choose Batch status management active.
          2. Save the new setting and choose Back.
          3. Choose Batch status management -> conversion.
          4. If necessary, carry out the conversion in test mode first.
    Further notes
Batch status management is linked to the batch level. At material and at plant level, the status management settings are valid within the client, that is for all plants. However, if you have defined batches to be unique at plant level, you have to select the plants in which status management is to be active using function Plants with status management.
If you activate status management, all existing batches are assigned status 'unrestricted'. If you deactivate status management, the systems transfers all restricted batches to unrestricted stock within conversion. Restricted stock only exists if status management is active.
If you create a client by copying an existing client, status management is automatically activated if batches exist in the target client, independent of the settings in the source client. If no batches exist in the target client, it is not activated. In this case, you have to activate or deactivate status management manually, if required.
    Plants with batch status management
    Activities
To select the plants in which status management is to be active, proceed as follows:
          1. Set characteristic Batch status management for those plants in which batch status management is to be active.
          2. Save your settings and choose function Back.
          3. Choose function Batch status management -> conversion
          4. If necessary, carry out the conversion in test mode first.
Initial status of a new batch
Using this function, you can specify for each material type which initial status new batches are to be assigned. However, if you use a quality management system, this specifies the status of the batches.
    Hope it will help
    Best Regards

  • Just wondering about the new CC 2014.2 October Update Splash Screens

I was just fascinated about Behance's appearance on Adobe Creative Cloud 2014 splash screens (though surely beacause it was under Adobe) but the new ones are slightly better. Can someone please tell me who made the images used for the splash screens on CC 2014.2/October Update? It would be greatly appreciated if someone does. Thanks!

Hello SarahBehance1! Thanks for commenting. Here's a sample of the new set of images used for the Adobe CC 2014.2/October 2014 Update. I got the artworks of the rest except SpeedGrade, Prelude, InCopy, Encore and Media Encoder. If you can help me, that would be greatly appreciated.

  • Wondering about the "image" tag in the Tech Specs example

I'll begin by admitting that what I don't know about coding would fill a bunch of bookshelves, but I've noticed that some people (including myself) have been having problems with their image files lately. I've also noticed that the coding for the image tag in the sample on the Technical Specifications page (http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/techspecs.html) isn't formed like all the rest.
    It’s
    <itunes:image href="http://example.com/podcasts/everything/AllAboutEverything.jpg" />
    Shouldn’t it be
    <itunes:image> href="http://example.com/podcasts/everything/AllAboutEverything.jpg" </itunes:image>
    HP Pavilion zd8000   Windows XP
    HP Pavilion zd8000   Windows XP

    Hi DiscipleC--
Andy is 100% correct (he makes some of the best podcast software around, so you're getting the advice of the pros here).
What will happen now that your feed doesn't validate is that the image will likely stay there. But that's not because it's correct--it's because iTunes will see a broken feed when it checks, and it won't make any changes at all. So if you add episodes, those won't appear because the feed won't be updated until it works again.
Follow the image art example exactly as listed in the example feed in the technical spec, make sure it validates over at feedvalidator.org, and you'll be fine.
    Good luck!

  • Just curious: Wondering about the "Getting Started" window

I'm rather liking the "Getting started with Acrobat Standard 8" window that pops up when you first start Acrobat. So much so in fact that I'm thinking I'd like to use a similar device for a product I'm documenting. I'm curious to know if anybody has a general idea of the coding behind it. Is it Telerik or AJAX or tricked-out PDF or...? Any insight is appreciated. Thank you!

  • Wondering about the new Regional Sports Fee & NASCAR Sponsorship

I know comcast says repeatedly that all their monthly increases on my bill are for the cost of doing business, Ok sure, so can you explain why I see this new fee on this months bill and then watch Comcast who sponsors the Nascar Xfinity Series racing handing out checks to drivers for $100,000 who have multi million dollar contracts and will race at the end of the season for a bonus check of $1,000,000..I have to tell you that I am on a fixed income and I am having a very difficult time supporting your cost of doing business and just maybe you need to think that you are accuring costs of doing business that are entirely unnecessary and then to pass these costs on to us is disturbing and getting real old, fast..

    Hello GLB2,
We really appreciate your feedback, without your feedback we are unable to improve the quality of services we provide our customers. I will forward this concern to a member of management. I would just like to inform you with a little more information regarding the Broadcast TV fee and the Regional Sports fee. As we continue to make investments in our products and services, we periodically need to adjust prices due to increases in programming, business and technology enhancement costs. (i.e.) The Broadcast TV fee or the Regional Sports fee. The Regional Sports Fee is not based on if you're watching the sporting events or not, but rather that they are available in the package you subscribe to. The Broadcast TV fee recovers a portion of the costs of retransmitting television broadcast signals. Broadcast stations are allowed by the government to charge for their signals, and cable providers like Comcast are required to pay substantial fees in order to carry those signals. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns in the future.
    Thank You!
