I-Mac does not startup anymore since a power failure.
My I-Mac does not start up anymore since there was a general power failure in house.
After power came back I disconnected the power cord for 1 hour and thereafter tried again.
No results.
What can I do now ?
Thanks for help.
One thing to remember, after the computer has been unplugged for a while and then you plug it in, WAIT for maybe 10 or more seconds before you try to start. I have had a few ocassions where going directly from plug in to power button would not bring the computer up.
Just for info, what happens when you HOLD the "Apple" key also called Command Key before powering up and continuing to hold it for maybe 30 seconds? That should bring up a list of all available boot sources. That would include a Recovery Partition which would then allow you to do a permissions repair (via disk utility) and Verify disk.
You could also hold the "T" key while booting up until a "Y" Firewire symbol appears on the screen. That would convert your computer into an external Firewire drive which could be plugged in via a Firewire cable, to another MAC and let you retrieve files from your computer's hard drive.
Both of these options are based on the power supply and logic board still working. If you do not get those indications, then a trip to the repair center is probably in order.

Mac os 10.4.10 software update problem -- my mac does not work anymore :(
hello!
i have a powerbook G4- PPC. just today, i did a software update of my OS to 10.4.10 (it was the available update version according to the automatic uptae) and during the final stage of the installation, it says "a problem was encountered...installation package is moved to trash"
when i browsed my mac, my apps does not work anymore!!! they just bounce from the dock when i clicked it but it won't open any window. i emptied the trash and restarted my mac but sadly, it just boot but won't continue to the log in part, only in the silver window with the apple logo and mac os x tiger... and the mouse just turns into the color wheel. i waited for 30 mins and nothing happened.
i don't have a startup disc because the mac is a gift and it was long time ago. is ther a software i can use to fix or revert the changes of the unsuccessful OS update? why is there always a problem when i do OS update? isn't apple software stable?
My mac problems' driving me crazy!!!There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.9 to 10.4.10. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them 10.4.10. compliant. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.

Facebook does not react anymore since this Update?
With Google Chrome and Safari facebook does not react anymore.
Chrome gives server error
Safari is blank.
May be it has eo do with Facebook but it happened just after this update...?!Given the lack of discussions, it's likely that there's something isolated within your configuration or your network connection. (This'd likely be producing mass panic, if it were a general problem.)
I've intentionally blocked FB here via local means, so I'm not in a position to test the connection.
Did you use any of the third-party Flashback removal tools? If so, which one?
Do you have any network-filtering, anti-malware or other security packages installed?
Is your DNS setting aimed at your ISP DNS servers, or at the Google DNS 8.8.8.8 servers? -
Microsoft and Safari Update went wrong: MacBook does not startup anymore
Hello all!
maybe someone can help me:
I updated Safari and Microsoft office two weeks ago and now I can't start my MacBook anymore.
Starting from the disc does not work either, however I am able to access the disc utility from there. Verification if fine, still when trying to startup either 10.4.11 or 10.4.8 from the disc, I am stuck in the whitescreen. I am also unable to eject my disc and now.
Any help or should I go to a local apple store (here in London, UK) to figure out if they can help me? After all, I am unwilling to pay for a repair since I never had problems with my mac before and now just that update messed everything up.
Any suggestions are highly appreciated!
TobbsSo you have not been able to start up for the last two weeks?
"Starting from the disc does not work either, however I am able to access the disc utility from there."
How can you access Disk Utility from there if you can't start up from the OS installer disk? I doubt updating Safari or Microsoft Office had anything to do with your present start up issue. There is nothing there that would cause startup problems. -
IMac Alu 2007 crashed and does not startup anymore
Hello
I have a iMac alu 2007 with OS 10.6.8
Yesterday evening, it suddenly crashed and I did not manage to start it again.
Actually, during one second (not more) it seems OK , I can hear the noise from superdrive but then nothing happens. When I place my hear on the computer, I can hear a little noise (crakkling) telling me it powered but nothing more, nothing on screen, no boot.
I have tried to unplug during 15 s but no change.
I have also tried to boot on one external disk but nothing.
my last hope was a stop because of too high temperature but it does not work also this morning.
Any idea ?Hi,
did u boot through firewire or usb ?
Try to boot from cd and holding down the "c" key when u start the computer. Is it working ?
try this link:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1587
It could be that your hard drive crashed, that is one of these crakkling noises.

OSX: Connecting to admin session not working anymore since 8.0.12
Hey
It seems to me that connecting to console session does not work anymore since the recent update to 8.0.12. Had no troubles before the update, now it does not connect to the console session but a normal one. Please fix this.
Mac OSX 10.9.5, Apple Remote Desktop 8.0.12
Cheers, Marcel.Hey Dharmesh,
Thanks for your reply. I mixed up terms. I cannot connect to the "admin session", in my last message I used the term "console session", sorry about that. Connecting works, but it connects normally instead of the admin session. Checkbox
"Connect to admin sesssion" is active.
In the logs I found the following message. Not sure it's related to my problem.
Cheers,
Marcel

I update my Mac to version 10.9.2 and now my printer does not work anymore. I did all the software updates and I do not understand why my mac does not recognize the printer anymore?
Go to the website of the manufacturer of your printer and check to see if they have released an updated driver for your particular model.

After update Mac OS 10.9.1 Trim Enabler does not work anymore!
After updating from Mac OS 10.9.0 to 10.9.1 the program Trim Enabler does not work anymore and my 4 SSDs from Samsung and Kingston are no longer supported.
What can I do?
Should I scrap my SSDs?
Why does Apple do such things?
Will Apple that I switch to Windows? There Trim works with all SSDs and BluRay will not boycott!Apple does not support TRIM for SSDs that were not factory
installed and TRIM Enabler is a hack to get around this. Any
hack is always subject to being disabled, or worse, with any
system update whether it is OSX or Windows. -
Ever since updating to OS 10.10.3, my iTunes does not open anymore!
Ever since I updated to 10.10.3, my iTunes does not open anymore.
I have restarted my computer, and tried to open it again but it did nothing. I installed iTunes again and also did not help. Opening iTunes from the application folder in Finder did nothing, as well as opening it from the launchpad did not help.
The app does not even bounce up and down in the dock, it just does nothing.
I think I have tried almost all basic methods. Is there anything else I can do?!
Please help!

Yes. You can't update or restore any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone. The sim card need not be activated, but it must be valid & present. If you want to update, you need to get a sim card. -

First I Reset Safari, then close Safari then navigate to:
Home/Library/Preferences and look for and then remove
com.apple.Safari.plist
com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
Also:
Home/Library/Safari/ folder and remove the following two files:
history.plist
lastsession.plist
And
Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/ and remove the contents of that folder.
(These are just webhistory files and are not required for Safari to run. However, similar to preference files, problems can arise if they have become corrupt.)
Locate the cookies.plist file that's located in the Home/Library/Cookies/ folder and remove it.
They will all be recreated next time you launch Safari. -
Update 10.5.6: external HD used for Time Machine does not MOUNT anymore
I've used this LaCie external Little Big Disk since November 2007 with Time Machine, without problems. Recently, after updating to OS 10.5.6, the disk does not mount anymore when connected by FireWire800. Same result when using FW400 and USB.
The disk shows up in the System Profiler under FireWire. When I run analysis with a program 'Data Rescue II', it also sees the disk.
Main issue: disk does not mount anymore. So no more TM backups possible.
Although the disk also shows up in Disk Utilities, I can't partition or reformat it. I ran the LaCie Update Tool 2.0.1 and it says firmware is up-to-date.
I also reinstalled the Combo Update 10.5.6 without result. Also did all the forum recommendations such as resetting PRAM and using Terminal to 'mount /dev/xxx'. Does not help.
I feel this is an Apple issue.Yes, did it three times. Also already hooked up in daisy chain, and yes, also connected to another Mac (also 10.5.6). Same result. I think it's an OS 10.5.6 issue, because it happened after the update and I had never problems in the last year using this disk with TM (it's not full either). I hope it's not, however, but I am afraid it is. Also I've posted the issue at LaCie support and see what they answer.

Huge problem! Harddrive does not work anymore
Hi,
I hope someone can help me. I wanted to start my Macbook this morning, but it does not start anymore. I looked in the manual and tried to start it from the Macbook-CD and open the harddrive programm, but I cannot repair the harddrive it says, cause there were "wrong packages".
My Macbook is just a bit older than a year, did I really crush my harddrive? (and if yes, how?!)
I also cannot install MAC OS X for another time, cause my harddrive cannot be selected, so I have no target where to install OS X.
What did I do wrong and what can I do so I can start my Macbook again?I just returned from the apple store and yes I needed a new hard drive. I also purchased this in June of 2006 so my warranty had expired. BUt I purchased it with a gold card which gives me an extended warranty. So at least they will pay for the new drive. But now I have a great deal of work to restore my last backup which is 10 days old. I have lost 10 days of important email, all the work I did and all the photos of the conference I went to. But at least I did a backup before I left town. And I was please with the Genius Bar guy who helped me figure out what to do in what order to restore what I need.
BUt I have been working on computers since the first IBM pc and this is only the second time I had a hard drive failure. And that first failure was a backup drive so it didn't really matter. THis one does matter and I don't like the fact that these are failing so quickly. So the lesson is backup all the time. Next time I travel I will take a backup hard drive with me too.
