I Mac G5 Start up
I have one of the early models of the imac G5 and have recently experienced some start up issues, it will start up and then freeze after running for half an hour or show up a kernel panic telling me to restart or it will start up have 3 high pitched beeps no video and the fans at full blast with the light flashing, I have tried a hardware check but this froze and I have tried to verify the disk but this also froze. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Imac (1st generation) is not turning on. I guess it's a logic board problem. I live in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and bought the computer through a friend of mine who lives in Miami and just sent it to me here in Brazil. I didn't even remember exactly when I bought it (maybe november 2004, but I'm not sure)
My question is, am I elegible to have the logic board replaced by Apple through its Apple Rev A repair extension program?

Hhow much goal and free hard disk space is available? Sounds like you need to move some things off of that hard drive.

My mac doesnt start. All i get is the gray screen with the apple and the loading icon but nothing more happens. I tried to start it in safe mode but it doesnt help. What can i do?
If you have a external USB enclosure - trying installing your hard drive in that enclosure and connect it to your usb port - restart your macbook while holding down the options key. If you Macbook boots to your desktop then you have a faulty cable. If you get the same error, then your hard drive just died on you.

if you've changed your startup options on mac to start in windows, how do you fix and go back to mac. I can't get my mac to switch back to mac, it is like stuck in widows mode, I have tried holding down the options key upon start up and that did not fix it either.
Please help! Thank you so much!The Apple drivers you install in Windows also puts a Startup Drive icon in the Task Bar. Choose that to change the startup disk back OS X.

Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
/sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important). -
Mac mini starts so slowly
After it does start open the Console app in the Utilities folder and look for log entry errors/problems during startup and post them here.
Running this and posting the results here may also help us determine what is going on

My Mac suddenly started getting a pop up message saying "There was a problem conecting to the server. URLs with the type "file" are not supported." My internet is working fine,no problem connecting. I just keep getting this message which I click off and continue working.
Open the Time Machine pane in System Preferences. If it shows that Time Machine is ON, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner, if necessary, to unlock it. Scroll to the bottom of the list of backup drives and click Add or Remove Backup Disk. Remove all the disks, then add them back. Quit System Preferences. Test.

Mac mini start up shut down code
I appreciate the two responses, from '300Tech' and TITOUMAX to my original question.
I was reluctant to take the "sudo halt" terminal suggestion since a warning loomed over the danger of losing data.
I was unable to post a copy of the code sequences suggested by TITOMAX since the problem was solved by the time I saw his post.
I received an answer from Apple.
I was able to halt display of start up and shut down code by shutting the Mac mini down and starting the machine while holding down "cmd option PR" keys until the computer gave the normal start sound followed by a repeat of the start sound. This procedure led to a normal start up process and also a normal shut down process without the display of the "start up code" during start up or the display of the "shut down code" during shut down.
By the way, holding down the "cmd option R" keys with my left hand while pressing the Mac mini start button with my right hand and quickly getting my right hand in place to hold the "P" key was tricky, but only took two tries to achieve success.
I was concerned that the display of those lines of code was an indicator of an impending problem. It turned out to be an unintended feature following replacement of the logic board.
By the way, Apple Care has been wortwhile for me.Thanks for the report, that's called a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

You'd have to ask Intuit. They might give you a cross-license to download and install the Mac version.

My mac has started sending yahoo emails out as if they were being sent from an old gmail account I haven't used in years. Why has this just started happening?
It is important to understand that Mail uses TWO servers, a Receiving Server and a Sending Server.
When you create a new mail message, or reply to a message, the Sender server is shown in the message composition window like this:
That drop-down window allows you to select which of the Sending Servers you previously set up should be used.
In general, once you choose a Sending server, its choice will "stick" for all future replies to messages from that Receiving mailbox. -
Imac not starting up, keep getting white screen. Using snow leopard. Able to get to disk utilities with snow leopard installation disk. Tap on had disk, not given choice to certified disk or anything else. Information on disk states that smart status is certified. Partition map I formatted. Also tried to restore from back up, but get error: not enough disk space. Tried to erase disk, but unable. What do I do next to get mac to start up?

One more question. I tried using the Apple install disk that came with the computer. It's an OS 10.5.6 disk. It does not see my 10.6.8 system internal hard drive to repair. All it see's is itself 10.5.6 disk. Do you think I can use a 10.8+ disk utillity since that is a higher system it will see the 10.6.8. Where the 10.5.6 does not?
I don't want to turn the computer off for fear I'll get the question mark again. P-Ram got me going last time but for how long I don't know? It would be nice to be able to turn the computer off for the night and startup as usual to give it a rest and try to reset itself.
Thanks for your help, I know I will eventually need to re-install. But I am in the middle of a project with tight deadlines and all I can do right now is back-up. Trying to migrate to another computer temporarily to finish the job. That's a lot of extra work in the short time also.
Just trying to put a band-aid on it for another couple weeks. -

E mac only starts up in safe boot
Having accidently pressed a few keys on the keyboard while not paying much attention to what was happening to my computer it just switched itself off!!! (I think it was the F15 button that was pressed!) Now it only starts in safe mode and I can't get many of the applications to work, internet connection to name one. How can i get it to start in normal mode again?
Can anyone shed some light on what I've stupidly done and how can I solve it please?

Do you mean the Mac always starts up in Safe Mode, without you pressing the shift key? You could try starting with the keyboard disconnected to see if it starts normally. If that's the case, check that the shift keys on your keyboard aren't stuck. You can jiggle the keys, or carefully pry them up and check for anything gumming the key post contact (keyboard keys pry off coming straight up and are replaced pressing straight down; on long keys such as the spacebar, shift keys, and Enter key, there's a wire spring that needs to be folded into the clips underneath). -

Yes, Actually was done from an Apple Genius at the apple store, the hard Disk was formatted and then re installed everything from back up.

How large is your HD AND how much space do you have left? When was the last time you repaired permissions and restarted your computer? Boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu. When done, restart back to your desktop, repair permissions and restart your computer.
