I.MAC with Intel dual cpu

I see a new I.MAC is on the market.
I have read the web pages about this machine
I am not sure FCE will perform on this new I.Mac?
What is the opinion of the forum?
Thank you.

Funny, it seems near impossible for anyone to answer the question of whether FCE will run on an "as is" iMac. I've studied the tech specs posted on Apple's site, and poked around in these discusion forums, but the best I can get is still too vague. I know I have to wait a bit for a native intel version, but when it is released is it going to be ready to use on the latest 20" iMac?
Apple seems to be a prime illustration of the phrase "it's hard to hit a moving target". A year ago, I had the money to move up to OS X, got set up with Panther and iLife 05 and a month later they let loose the Tiger. Now I've just gotten a little windfall of money, enough to get a much more up to date setup, and it's the changing of the guards all over again. I want to get the 20" intel iMac, since it would appear to be the direction Apple's going. I also plan to move up from iMovie to FCE, but the choice is to stay with G5 as it's being phased out, or just wait till they match the software to the system all over again (I also want Logic Express, which it seems is already intel-ready). I don't mind the wait that much, there's plenty to play around with while waiting for the new FCE, but I'd still like to know before I spend if the iMac needs an expensive boost to work with FCE or not. Not counting extra RAM, of course, I've got that in mind anyway.

The CPU's come from different Intel 'families'.  The older ones are 'Ivy Bridge' and the newer ones are 'Haswell'.  Numbers alone will not determine the efficiency of  CPU.

This is unknown, it will be up to Apple and AFAIK they haven't announced that yet.

Yes, you can run DW CS4 on a Mac G5.
Note that DW CS4 is the last release of Dreamweaver to support PowerPC.

As long as it meets the minimum technical specifications, although the more above the minimum you have, the better the experience.

  • Palm Desktop native for Mac with Intel

Is there any chance of Palm Desktop native for Mac with Intel.
To HP/Palm: please supports Palm Desktop for Mac and release a new version native for Mac with Intel. There is not competition for such a software (derived from Apple Claris Organizer). You will sell HP/Palm devices for sure. Actually, the main reason I did that in the past was because I could have the Palm Desktop software for Mac.

I just wrote Access an inquiry about updating the Palm Destop to Mac Intel compatible. Not holding my breath. Shame such an elegant, simple and effective piece of software should just fade away.

  • DSC 8.6.1 wrong timestamps for logged data with Intel dual core

    Problem Description :
Our LV/DCS 8.6.1 application uses shared variables to log data to Citadel. It is running on many similar computers at many companies just fine, but on one particular Intel Dual Core computer, the data in the Citadel db has strange shifting timestamps. Changing bios to startup using single cpu fixes the problem. Could possibly set only certain NI process(es) to single-cpu instead (but which?). The old DSCEngine.exe in LV/DSC 7 had to be run single-cpu... hadn't these kind of issues been fixed by LV 8.6.1 yet?? What about LV 2009, anybody know?? Or is it a problem in the OS or hardware, below the NI line??
This seems similar to an old issue with time synch server problems for AMD processors (Knowledge Base Document ID 4BFBEIQA):
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/1EFFBED34FFE66C2862573D30073C329
    Computer info:
    - Dell desktop
    - Win XP Pro sp3
    - 2 G RAM
    - 1.58 GHz Core 2 Duo
    - LV/DSC 8.6.1 (Pro dev)
    - DAQmx, standard instrument control device drivers, serial i/o
(Nothing else installed; OS and LV/DSC were re-installed to try to fix the problem, no luck)
    Details:
A test logged data at 1 Hz, with these results: for 10-30 seconds or so, the timestamps were correct. Then, the timestamps were compressed/shifted, with multiple points each second. At perfectly regular 1-minute intervals, the timestamps would be correct again. This pattern repeats, and when the data is graphed, it looks like regular 1-sec interval points, then more dense points, then no points until the next minute (not ON the minute, e.g.12:35:00, but after a minute, e.g.12:35:24, 12:36:24, 12:37:24...). Occasionally (but rarely), restarting the PC would produce accurate timestamps for several minutes running, but then the pattern would reappear in the middle of logging, no changes made.
    Test info:
    - shared variable configured with logging enabled
    - data changing by much more than the deadband
    - new value written by Datasocket Write at a steady 1 Hz
    - historic data retrieved by Read Traces
    - Distributed System Manager shows correct and changing values continuously as they are written

    Meg K. B. ,
It sounds like you are experiencing Time Stamp Counter (TSC) Drift as mentioned in the KB's for the AMD Multi-Core processors. However, according to this wikipedia article on TSC's, the Intel Core 2 Duo's "time-stamp counter increments at a constant rate.......Constant TSC behavior ensures that the duration of each clock tick is
uniform and supports the use of the TSC as a wall clock timer even if
the processor core changes frequency." This seems to suggest that it would be not be the case that you are seeing the issue mentioned in the KBs.
Can you provide the exact modle of the Core 2 Duo processor that you are using?

  • T60 does not boot with Intel T7600G CPU

I replaced my Intel Core Duo T2400 with Intel Core 2 Duo T7600G CPU in ThinkPad T60(1951-CTO) laptop. However, laptop does not boot with Intel Core 2 Duo T7600G CPU. It doesn't even complete the POST: https://db.tt/8UL8FlE0 As seen in the video, I plugged in the power adapter at 0:02 and pressed the power button at 0:06. One can hear a little click made by optical device. If I press the power button again at 0:16, this click does not happen. BIOS version is 2.27. I have reset the BIOS settings by disconnecting the CMOS battery, but this didn't help. Once I replace the T7600G with my old T2400 then I'm able to boot the laptop.
Any ideas what might cause such behavior? Shouldn't there be beep codes in case of CPU issues? What else to try?

I don't claim to be the top authority on T60 motherboards, but I believe any will use a Core 2 T7600, 7400, 7200 if the firmware is updated.
My own experience mirrors what TuuS has stated. I have yet to see a T60/p from any walk of life with a recent BIOS that will bark at a proper Core 2 Duo CPU.

  • Macs with intel chips query

Help please I have been holding out for the Mac mini to be upgraded to the intel chip which is now available but I am faced with a dilema. My son who will be princple user has special needs and most of his apps run on system 9 which I have found out today will not run under Rosetta. Most of his software will however run on windows. Does anyone know if its possible to boot an intel mac to run windows or if it might be available in the future. I dont want to turn to windows if possible as he has always got on well with his ageing G3 running OS9 and our G4 running OS 10.4

You can run emulator on Intel Core Mac's. I am aware that Microsoft and Apple differ in vision of VirtualPC and am not aware wheather Rosetta supports VirtualPC emulator.
However, there is shareware iEmulator wchich works fine with Windows, DOS, Linux emulation on Mac's. I had brief exchange with one of their engineers about supporting Intel based Mac's in terms of realasing Universal version of iEmulator. They are preping for that and they should do that soon.
Now I find any PC emulation very slow on Mac' I have tried Windows 98, Windows 2000 and SUSE Linux 10. All of them work and even get some choppy audio (emulated Soundblaster), but if one means Windows gaming then I would drop emulation of any type. Gaming requires fast native environment.
BTW emulators like iEmulator support Internet so you can do browsing and e-mailing with Windows tools.
If just running program for Windows is what you want on Mac then you may give it try (bring-your-own-windows):
    http://www.iemulator.com
But I wouls not say that without fast CPU this is usable solution.
Now, I already have Intel Core Duo Mac mini. It is not lightning fast. My PC with Celeron D 2.8 that built myself is faster... and it was cheaper. Mac Mini is just like a laptop/notebook without keyboard, mouse and monitor. It has much better organized, really user fiendly system... called... Mac OS X which makes it worth buing and using as primary computer. I use my PC only as a backup since computing world is crazy and to many it is MS-Windows synonym... stupidly enough.

  • IMovie for Mac with Intel ??

    Hello,
    I am using a Mac Pro with 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors, 8GB of 667MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM.
I used to have the iLife suite on an older OS. I upgraded my OS from 10.5 to 10.6.8.
I no longer have iMovie, iDVD, Garage Band, et cetera.
Is there an iMovie made to work on OS10.6.8?
If so, where do I find it?
If not, would I be able to download my original iMovie software from my OS10.5 discs and use it with my current OS10.6.8?
Thank you so much for your help!!!

You can install it from the computer's original disks or a retail iLife DVD, which are available at places such as Amazon and eBay.

  • Running Visual Studio 2005 on a Mac with Intel Core Duo chip?

My nephew has been teaching himself Visual Basic (Visual Studio 2005) for several months on an old, out-dated PC laptop. My sister, who knows nothing about computers and didn't want to ask for help (in case somebody tipped off my nephew) wanted to buy him a new laptop. She said the salesperson told her that he can install XP SP2 on the Mac and then run any Windows software application (including VS 2005). My nephew has been using the new laptop (Powerbook 15") for less than a week and absolutely loves it. But he doesn't know if he can actually keep it (because he needs to be able to run VS 2005). He asked me and I didn't know so I figured I'd ask.
Any chance he'll be able to install XP SP2, VS 2005, run it, code with it and compile with it (all part of VS 2005)? Or is he going to have to return it and just go back to a PC laptop?
Thanks for any information/advice you can give. I'm seeing him tomorrow so I'm hoping I'll have some good news for him.
    OOTInAtlanta

My bad. It is one of the new one's. I believe it is a MacBook Pro. I think the MacBook itself only comes in 13"?? His is definitely 15" and she bought it brand new. I am pretty sure it is a MacBook Pro.
If it is, you think he'll be able to keep it and do a dual-boot thing (for using VS 2005)? Is there anything special he'll need to know?
Thanks again for any information you can give. It is very much appreciated.

  • My 2006 Mac with Intel that is running on OSX 10.6.8 suddenly has no sound

My computer has been acting a little erratic for close to a month now, but I thought it was a browser issue. Ever since I uninstalled Google Chrome and Firefox, then downloaded Safari, things are not loading as quickly as they should, I try to download newer versions of Firefox and/or GoogleChrome, and, when I do, it will not download completely. The download will begin, then stop, and I'll get this message on the screen saying "Plug-in Failure". I installed MacKeeper, and, it seemed to be helping, a little, but, when I read what people had said about it in here, I immediately uninstalled it. Yesterday evening, prior to uninstalling MacKeeper, I lost all sound on my computer. It had been fine, and then suddenly, it was just gone. I uninstalled MacKeeper, tried changing system preferences, tried all kinds of things, and still no sound. That, andI'm still unable to download  other web browsers. Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How large is your HD & how much space do you have left?
    Regarding your sound:
    Repair permissions & restart.
Check your settings in the Audio Midi app which is located in the Utilities folder.

Trick/Tip: Open up GarageBand if installed then, open a program (optional).
Quit out of the GarageBand app.
    =====================
    Repairing the mysteriously muted Mac
The background on the issue is that there’s a small sensor switch inside the headphone port. When you insert a headphone jack, the sensor understands what's what and changes the sound output setting to Headphones. If you insert a jack for digital audio output, the device changes to Digital Out. When you remove the jack completely, it should read Internal Speakers.
The spirits tell me that there’s a very good chance that you recently had something jacked into this port—a set of headphones or a cable leading to powered speakers, for example. When you removed the jack, something in the port prevented the sensor from tripping correctly. That’s why you see Digital Out instead of internal Speakers.
The solution is to force the sensor to do its job. The safest way to do that is to simply run a jack in and out of the port a few times. Much of the time, this takes care of the problem by correctly tripping the sensor. If that doesn’t work, there may be gunk in the port. Before turning to more invasive techniques, get a can of compressed air, attach the small tube that fits the nozzle, and blast a few shots of air into the port. With any luck, that should dislodge the gunk and the port will operate as it should.
If that doesn’t work, find a foam-tipped swab that fits (electronics shops generally carry them), dip it in rubbing alcohol, and gently insert it into the headphone port in an attempt to wipe away any stubborn gunk. I recommend foam rather than cotton swabs because the cotton variety might leave threads behind. (This same technique works well with misbehaving headphone ports on devices such as iOS devices.)
It's possible that gunk has nothing to do with it. Rather, it may be that the switch just needs a subtle nudge. If a jack or swab doesn't work, I've heard of people successfully resetting it with a deft poke of a toothpick.

  • G5 with intel dual quad core 3.0Ghz Crashing

ok I have tried everything i know no this G5 tower and it keeps crashing i can use it fine for a while then all at once blue and red lines come up on the screen and the computer locks up and then the black box of death as I have come to call it pops up and tells me to restart the computer it just started this about 3 days ago. there was a power outage and after that it has been acting up the UPS i had it hooked up to went dead. anyone got any ideas what could be causing this?
    Message was edited by: cjmarcum

Is the tower portion (bottom aluminum metal case) kept in an enclosed area like under a desk? Is there plenty of room and ventilation where the machine is kept?
You might be experiencing thermal shutdowns. If enough thermal shutdowns occur, hardware damage may be the result. The Achilles heal of the MacPro is potential high temperatures in and around the video card area where it connects to the logic board. This also may be causing the weird lines and graphics.
You can run a shareware program called Hardware Monitor (you can find it at versiontracker dot com) to check the operating temperature of your machine. The software also has specified limits displayed to let you know if the temperature is too high for your specific machine.
There have been several MacPros that I've worked on that had this problem. It turned out to be that the excessive heat damaged both the logic board and video card and both had to be replaced. Do you still have Apple care for this machine? If not, I know of some good 'organ donor banks' if it turns out to be hardware failure.
    Keep us posted,
    Mike

  • Tiger Update Crashes my Mac Mini Intel

I got a new Mac Mini and finally got it going though it was not easy to transfer from my eMac. But I prevailed. Then I made the fatal mistake of updating all that the Software Update software suggested. Now my brand new Mac Mini will not run at all.
REWIND: I tried to update my eMac a couple of weeks ago to Tiger. I did that and ran Software Update and GUESS WHAT? It crashed my eMac so badly I had to reinstall ALL the Panther software.
    Did Microsoft buy Apple???

I figured out the problem last night after a week of gnashing, grumping, and general anxiety. Hope this post helps others with a similar problem.
I have a free Lexmark 1150 All-In-One printer attached to my Mac. Apparently Tiger DOES NOT like the Lexmark application that turns off the printer during Restart and Shutdown. The application is in Library/Startupwhatever folder and I just trashed the Lexmarksleep..app (whatever it is named - I'm at work and cannot remember the exact name) and erased it.
Now my Mac Mini is back working like a Mac - PERFECT.
