I-Mac won't read photos on CD-RW

I imported a lot of pictures ino the I-Photo program on my G-4, and burned onto CD-RW disks.
Then I bought an I-Mac 20" with Intel Core Duo, which now runs OS X 10.4.9.
Problem: the I-Photo program won't recognize the CDs! Since I also upgraded the G-4 to OS X 10.4.9, it also won't read the CDs>
I would appreciate suggestions. kittywake
I-Mac, Intel Core Duo.   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I suggest you don't use -RW disks as they are not nearly as reliable or compatible as the -R disks. The price of the -R disks in bulk make it affordable to use. The -RW do not have a good reputation.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

My mac won't read my external harddrive's videos that I took with my Nikon.  Half the videos won't play, and those are .avi files.  WHY won't they play anymore and how can i retrieve them?

What exactly is your problem? Is it, (a) your Mac doesn't read your external disk, or, (b) you can't retrieve your videos, or, (c) you can't play them, or, (d) you were able to play them at one point, but not any more.
What version of Mac OS X are you using, what app are you trying to play your videos with, what happens when you do, and what error messages, if any, do you get?

  • My Mac Won't Read Windows XP Pro Disk T_T  I Need Help...

My Mac will not read my XP Pro disc. It is not an original but it is an exact copy that runs perfectly on a PC. I have been told by a number of people that there is no reason that it won't work. I simply tell Boot Camp Assistant to start the installer and it says it can't find the installation disk. Is there something wrong with my computer???

On the offensive, eh? For the record, I wasn't trying to bash you, I simply read your posts and they all gave off the same "hate" for Boot Camp, so I thought I would inquire a little further into the matter.
If you can't load Windows and you want to eject the disc, press the alt/option key at start up, select your Mac partition and eject the disc from there. Sure, an eject button could come in handy at times, but aesthetics are also a big part of any Mac computer. A big honking eject button on an otherwise smooth surface would be rather obtrusive. Even if you did have an Apple Keyboard, and Windows wouldn't load, you still wouldn't get anywhere because you wouldn't have any Apple Keyboard driver to acknowledge the eject button is even there, unless you quickly pressed it at the white boot screen, and I'm not even sure if that would work.
"You've loaded "tons" of windows on your mac, and did not have a problem...I gather that I've seen your "helpful and insightful" Mac directions, somewhere here on these forums, guiding Windows users to the answer, correct?"
Is this an insult? I'm not sure... Yeah, I've helped people with their problems on here... man, I must be a real ****.
"I may appear to be a fanboy of PC's too you, but at least we PC users can get help somewhere on the internet, that other users can relate with and point us in the right direction..."
    http://discussions.apple.com
"Apple-ites seem to want to bash people who LIKE the ease of Windows (and common-sense buttons on our hardware, called Eject!)"
When did I bash any Windows/PC hardware or software? If I wanted to bash Windows, why would I have it installed on my Mac? I'm sure there are a few buttholes on this forum that are, "omg y wud u install Windoz on Mac, u'll ruin ittuhh!1!!!one!", however, the majority of the people on the forum are rather kind and will attempt to help with whatever problem you/someone may have. Again, a big part of Macs are aesthetics.
"if we happen to spend our dollars on a mac, the least you guys can do is APPRECIATE that we are trying to gravitate to the mac, but are having problems UNDERSTANDING decades of your culture...instead of finding fault in every little question on the mac's difficult usage and expecting us to humble ourselves for a little insight to our problem!"
How are you supposed to find a solution if you can't find the fault? The user controls the computer, more often than not, it's the user that makes the mistakes, the computer doesn't just mess itself up. (not accusing you or anything, just saying.)
Again, this wasn't an attempt to bash, but going around claiming Boot Camp is trash isn't the best way to introduce yourself. Boot Camp on the Mac side doesn't even really do anything, simply partitions the hard drive. On the Windows side, it simply installs drivers. There's nothing to really hate.
If you'd like help with your Windows problems, I'd be glad to help, only if you choose to open your mind, accept help and not think of it as "ridiculing" or "finding faults".

  • My Mac won't read ip address

  • My mac won't read my dvd. It says its blank although I know its has 4GB worth of photos. Anyone know how to read this dvd ?

I am new to I Mac and my photo dvd which has 4GB of photos on it wont play in the mac. It says that the dvd is blank ??. The dvd was closed when I last used it on my windows machine and I can still read /view the photo if I load it up on the windows PC. Anyone have any ideas OR am I missing something obvious.
    Regards

It sounds like the file format extension that the photos are encoded in might not be native to Apple's OSX.  You might download a 3rd party application such as VuePrint to your iMac, which is capable of opening all common image formats.
Does Windows on your PC tell you what format the photos are encoded in?  .Jpeg, .Tiff, etc.?
    Hope this helps

  • My Mac won't read the Photoshop Elements disc - help!

Adobe Photoshop Elements will not load onto my Mac - the computer won't even read it.  It just whirrs a bit and then ejects the disc.  I have no problems with DVDs, CDs and Snow Leopard is read without any trouble.  What is causing this?  Please help!  The disc is not faulty - I returned the first one thinking there was a problem but exactly the same thing is happening with disc no 2.  It does load on to a PC (well as much as it can) so there is no problem with the disc itself.

    Thanks Barbara for contacting me..
Emma, as per what I have read above, this seems to be very weird scenario. To be frank, I dont have a direct answer as to why the DVD is not running properly on the machine and why does it ejects automatically.
But, I can suggest a workaround.
Can you insert the DVD on some other machine(Win/Mac), and copy the complete "Adobe Photoshop Elements 8" folder on some external drive.
Then attach the external drive to your Mac and copy the folder onto your machine say on the desktop.
If this much part can be done, then you just need to go inside the folder, and double click on Setup.app to launch the installer.
    Does it helps?

  • Mac won't read camera.

I'm sure there are dozens of threads on this site asking things like this but I'll ask anyways. My Mac will not detect my Sony Handycam. It is a Sony DCR-HC28. I have it connected to a Firewire USB chord into my Mac. My Mac is version 10.5.8. I opened iMovie and when I click the camera icon the only option it gives me is for the built in iSight. No option for the camera. I googled and tried a few suggestions but to no luck. I checked System Profiler and found nothing. Charged my camera and rebooted my computer. Got nothing. Unplugged and replugged. Nothing. Any tips??? Is it possible becuase my Firewire connects through the USB port rather than the Firewire port that it won't work??? I could sure use the help.

This is my first post. Sorry. I will redirect myself.

  • My Mac won't read discs. Spits them out within seconds.

Why would it just stop working? We hardly ever use it. It won't even take the Mac discs. Help!!

Ok, I have already done all of these steps and nothing has helped!  Here's my related problem, any suggestions?
My iMac won't even burn a single disc!  Everytime I insert a blank disc it spits it out telling me it's not blank and won't burn onto it.  I know the CDs are blank.  I tried 10 from a brand new stack!  I finally sent the playlist to my husband's PC (he has iTunes loaded) and he burned the CD fine using the same blank discs that my iMac kept spitting out.
Today I tried to play a music CD.  It spit it out in seconds of me putting it in.  I can play it on my DVD player, my husband's computer, my entertainment center, my car CD player but not my iMac  No explanation, just wouldn't accept the CD.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON BUT IT'S VERY IRRITATING!!!
On top of all of this, when I upgraded my Apple Operating System the ChromCast program I was successfully using before stopped working giving me a Green Screen of Death.
    APPLE!!  ***!!!
Could really use some guildance here...starting to really give up on Apple...way too many problems with too many different items and no solution when my husband's PC is doing just fine!

  • Mac won't read USB from Camera

I have an older camera that doesn't have a 4 pin firewire port. So I'm using a USB connector to upload my video outside of IMovie (unfortunately I don't have Final Cut yet). However, my computer won't recognize the camera. I've tried turning the camera on both before and after I plug it in to the computer, but I still can't get it to read the camera. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi DragynFilmMaker-
    Video camera? Which one?
As mentioned by Alchroma take a closer look. Try looking online at the manufacturer's website for a manual.

  • My mac won't download photos from my iPhone to iPhoto.

It stopped a couple months ago. When iPhoto starts up it says "The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it." I hit the "repair" button, which lets me use iphoto, but then when I connect my iphone and try to import photos it says:
iPhoto cannot import your photos to this library because iPhoto cannot access the library. Please repair your iphoto permissions."
I have followed all the prompts, and all my permissions are read/write so it is not this.
    HELP!
    Thanks in advance.
    Sally.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards

  • After updating to 10.7.5 Mac won't read some of my RAM

Please bare with me, it's a bit of a long tale. After updating to 10.7.5 my Mac has been acting really screwy with the RAM it reads. I did the combined update, and repaired permissions first. However I was foolish and did not do the repair permissions from a boot CD or a different drive. So my bad there, I was hoping this would just work. The update went fine, however I noticed right away that it wasn't reading all the RAM correctly. I had just bought 16GBs of Ram (24GB total) less than a month ago, 3rd party from eBay.
It had been working fine until the update, after that it only read 12GB total. 2 sticks weren't reading and 2 were only partial reads. I tired many configurations and Memtest, with various results. Red lights were popping up on the memory risers. I finally narrowed it down to my problem Ram (the new 3rd party RAM) all on one riser. Riser B. I did a restart, zapped the P-Ram and got it to read the full 24GB. After a day of working, I did another restart and it only read 12GB. So I finally decided it was bad RAM and the ebay shipper was really cool and let me return my RAM. Then I put 2 1GB sticks of the original Apple RAM back in to my computer, restarted and everything was cool. I was back to to my original 10GB. Until I had to do a restart that is. Now it reads 8GB of RAM. My current configuration is this:
Riser A: 4 sticks of 2GB RAM (3rd Party from Trans national installed with proginal purchase); Riser B: 2 sticks of 1GB Apple RAM (in the first two DIMM slots).
Red light on RIser B. Does not read any of the RAM form this riser.
My question, is this due to 10.7.5 update? Or has my ram risers gone bad? Could my original Ram have gone bad too? What else can I try before taking it in to a technician?

So take out the Apple OEM  RAM. Don't use it.
Maybe Lion is tighter (false, it is  still ignorant of some severe RAM problems).
Replace it. Cheap and easy. Sounds like it is failing. It does. FBDIMMs will not last forever. Showing half or not at all is one sign. Running with it can cause other issues as the ECC isn't going to protect you from hardware issue.
Ideal RAM config is 8 DIMMs - offers 17% improvement memory bandwidth  performance
667MHz FBDIMMs are cheap, excellent and 4% 'hit' you would never know about.
    http://www.barefeats.com/harper5.htmlhttp://www.barefeats.com
Your 16GB from ebay came with Apple approved heatsinks? works fine by itself? that is the first thing to do, and to run AHT and memtest then and  there with just it installed.
Are all the FBDIMMs showing mid-60*C's? they should.

  • Mac won't read my external hard drive!

I bought a lacie 500gb external harddrive at the same time as my mac bookpro, the salesmen said it was a good drive and it would work seamlessly with my computer. I open the box and the instructions are easy: connect the power adapter to the drive, then connect the drive to the computer (I chose to use the firewire400 over the usb) then wait a few seconds and it will read the drive. After waiting the "few seconds" a message popped up saying there was an error and that the disk was not properly formatted. What to do?
The one thought I had is that the computer should be connected to the internet, which I wasn't any time I tried to connect the drive. Please Help!

Don't worry, it's not too bad.
A drive has a partition scheme and a formatting scheme. You can have a single or several partitions and there are several mehods of formatting a drive.
You can format the drive through the disc ultilty (applications/utilities). Once formatted it should show up (You can name the drive and select the format - usually mac OS Extended journaled) or FAT 32 if you want to use the drive on a windows PC also.
Some people partition a drive into 2 or more sections - with one section the same size as your internal HD for backup purposes and the rest for data. If you want to divide it up into separate discs (partitioning) you can do that from the disc utility too - just move the slider. If you are hoping to create a bootable backup on one of the partitions then make sure you use GUID as the partitioning scheme from options. Once you've moved the slider select each partition and make sure it is named and formatted.
    Best of luck
(PS - If you think you might want to use it for bootable backup later- make sure you partition using GUID now from options - even if you only want a single partition - ie the whole drive. This is because if you re-partition later all data on the drive will be destroyed.

  • My mac won't read my DVDs it just spins and ejects them.

I don't know how to fix this problem, I've been doing workout videos everyday for the past week but yesterday my DVDs just stopped working. It spins and never reads it, then ejects it. I tried to call and talk to somebody but you have to pay to get advice. I don't know if I should take it into the store or if I can easily fix it. I've only had my mac for a year and a half and its been having all kinds of trouble lately.

    Try a drive cleaner.
