I made Flip4Mac work on my intel iMac (plays wmv files)

I haven't seen this posted yet ... if it has been, sorry about being redundant.
Here's what you do :
- Download Flip4Mac ... it'll show up on your desktop.
- Control-click on it and select "show package contents"
- Double click on the "contents", then "Resources" folder
- Then double click on "Flip4Mac Quicktime components.pkg" to install
- Before you run quicktime ... do a "get info" on quicktime and check the open in roseta box.
Then run quicktime ... and it all works

Here are a couple more specifics to get wmv files to play on new iMac with Flip4mac:
After you've downloaded and installed Flip4Mac (and updgraded to Max OSX 10.4.5):
In your Applications folder: highlight QuickTime; go to "File" drop down menu and click "Get Info"; check the Rosetta box.
Then do the same thing in your Apps folder for Safari.
You then need to restart your computer. This is what worked for me. Thanks.

    Hi mil001,
You'll want to consider contacting Telestream directly, here's their support link -

That's not an Apple product and I really think dealing with them directly is going to get you quicker, more efficient help.

  • Despite the newest Flip4Mac plugin being installed and Firefox recognizing it, and it is selected to play wmv files, Firefox does not use it.

What else do I need to say?

  • SilverKeeper backup doesn't work correctly with Intel iMac and 10.4.8

I use SilverKeeper 1.1.4 to backup daily to a LaCie drive. But it will no longer do automatic backups (that is, wake computer from sleep at 6am before I start the day) since I migrated from PowerBook G4 to new Intel iMac 24". It only starts the backup when I come and wake computer, not by itself, which it had done before...The SilverKeeper people have been unable to help me.
New Intel iMac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Could very well be that SilverKeeper's scheduling function no longer works with 10.4.8. Let me suggest alternatives that do:
    1. Deja Vu
    2. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    3. Synchronize! Pro X
All are universal binaries. You can find them at www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com.

  • Can I get my Laserwriter Select 360 to work on my intel iMac?

I have a new Intel iMac running 10.4.8. I want to use my Apple Laserwriter Select 360 with the iMac connecting via an Ethernet to Local Talk bridge (Assantetalk) via my net gear router. The driver comes up in the printer list, but it comes up with an error -50 and won't select?
Is this possible to get working?
    thanks

It doesn't look like appletalk is an option when I go to network preference configurations- just Bluetooth,Built-in Ethernet, Built-in Firewire and Airport. The Apple Laserwriter Select is very old with an appletalk connection. Does the Imac have a port for that kind of connection?

  • Anyone have OpenOffice 2.0.2 working with their Intel iMac?

I'm a new Mac user so it very well may be I'm doing something wrong. I downloaded 3 different flavors of the latest OpenOffice that say they work on the Intel Mac platform, but so far no luck. As far as I can tell, X11User is installed properly. When I try running OpenOffice, it shows for a few seconds in the Dock, then goes away. There are no error messages, so I have no idea what is going wrong. If someone has this working, please post the link to the build you are using and any installation / operation hints you might have.

  • X11 won't work on 17'' intel iMac

Just installed the X server and tried to start it. After 2 seconds of jumping in Dock, X11 terminates immediately.
Is X11 known to no work on 17'' CodeDuo iMacs?

Insert Install Disc 1 into the Mac, look for the
"Optional Installs" package and open it, when you get
to the list of items to install, click on the
triangle next to Applications, and the last item
you'll see on the list is X11.
I did just this. Well, seem as if I need to read logfiles...

  • Flip4Mac is not working. How can I view WMV files?

I downloaded Flip4Mac and Qucktime opens and only plays a black soundless screen. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong, or are there other files I need?

There is another alternative which is Flip4Mac (it is a plugin for quicktime that allows you to play windows media file in quicktime). It is available for download here: http://www.telestream.net/products/flip4mac.htm.
    Hope this helps for you,

  • Problems playing .wmv file with Flip4mac installed

I have a video that was made in Windows Movie Maker, I believe, that is .wmv format. Works fine on the PC at church and home, but won't play on either my MacBook or my friend's. It is a fairly large file, 483MB.
It played fine on my old PowerBook G4 in Windows Media Player for Mac, but haven't tried it for a while, and I don't want to download Windows Media Player for Mac now that Flip4Mac is installed.
Other .wmv files play fine, this is the only one that has not worked...any ideas?

Have you installd the latest Quicktime? .....Don't
Flip4mac worked well for me until I did.........

  • Playing wmv files on iMac

Hello, is there a way to playback wmv files on my iMac? Or a recommended app that will take care of that? Thanks!!

Use the free Flip4Mac player. No Mac software will play protected Windows Media content.

  • Mac / Intel / Viewing windows wmv files and windows media

First time Mac user, son gave me the latest G5 / Tiger with the dual intel. Cannot load flip Mac, I get a message that basically tells me that Flip Mac doesn't work with the Mac/Intel set-up as of yet. I also cannot seem to get a Mac friendly version of anything to open wmv. files. I'm not very computer savvy and have virtually no experience with Mac. Simple downloads appreciated. Help an old dog learn a new trick.

Sounds like you've got a great son!
I have little Mac Intel experience to point you directly to a .wmv player, but if you haven't already found it, go to http://www.versiontracker.com for a comprehensive list of software for both Mac and Windows.
If you're willing to be a little adventurous then have a look at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html. VLC is one of my favorite media players and while the site doesn't yet have an Intel release, they are actively working on an Intel version. You can download their testing versions and help them by posting feedback and bug reports.

  • External iSight not working on my intel iMac

I have a few reasons to want to use my external iSight instead of the built-in, sometimes using both at the same time. A few months ago I had tested it and it worked flawlessly and I could even write a small quartzcomposer application that used both.
But just a few weeks ago (and many system updates later) my iSight just stopped working. I tested the camera with a powerbook and it worked perfectly, so it does not seems a hardware fault.
When I plug it in, the light turns on for one second then turns off and the mac does not recognize the extra camera.
    Any tips?
    thanks

  • Front Row doesn't work with my Intel iMac

I've had my ICD iMac for about 2 months. It used to work, but now when I push the 'Menu' button nothing happens.
    I've rebuilt permissions and restarted.
If I'm running iTunes I CAN move forward and back tracks.
    Any ideas?

Have you updated Front Row to 1.2.1?

Another option might be to install the 10.4.6 combo update.
