I made my iphone into my ipod!

Hi so I don't know what I really did and how to get it back.
So I got my iphone 5 a few months ago and I never used itunes. Today I finally wanted to put music on iphone so I had to download the new itunes. Once that was finished I plugged in my iphone and it said some things like make a new iphone or keep files on ipod and I chose keep files on ipod and now my iphone has everything my ipod has except for my new iphone apps. I hate it so much I just want my old iphone back, now I have none of my contacts, no pictures and everything looks messed up. I don't know what to do to put everything back to normal. please help I don't want my ipod features.

When you connected your iPhone to your computer, you selected to restore it from the last backup of your iPod.  In doing so, you wiped all of the contents that were on the iPhone and then restored teh contents of your iPod onto it.
To get your iPhone back, you will have to connect it to your iTunes and restore as a new device.  Regretfully, you wiped all of the contents you had on it, so they are now gone (unless you got lucky and had an iCloud backup).

  • Can you turn an iPhone into an iPod touch when no longer used as a phone?

Can anyone help with turning an iPhone that is no longer in use into an iPod touch?

If it is your old one and is already activated in your iTunes software, Just keep using it.  You don't need to do anything to it.  Without an cellular service account linked to it anymore, it is now, effectively, an iPod touch (although if you leave the SIM card in it, it could still be used for emergency calls, at least in the USA).
If this is one that you do not have, or never had, activated in iTunes then follow the instructions here - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3406 to activate it in iTunes so you can still sync it and so forth.

  • How to make iphone into an ipod

My iphone will not restore. Can I use it as an ipod only? If it is possible, what do I have to do in order to download the songs?

If it won't restore, but needs to, then you're not going to be able to treat it as an iPod either. Try putting the device in DFU mode to restore it.

  • If I get a 3GS, can I turn my iPhone into an iPod Touch?

I bought the original iPhone when it came out and I want to buy a 3GS when they are available. When I do, I'd like to use my old iPhone to run Remote to control iTunes running on my music server. Can I turn off the phone part of the iPhone but still have Wifi and run apps like Remote?

    Hi,
Yes, you can use the original iPhone without a service plan.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406 provides more details.
Just leave the SIM that was last used with in the iPhone in it, so you can easily update and restore the iPhone.

  • Can I convert the Iphone into an iPod Touch?

In a cost cutting move, my employer will no longer pay for my iPhone usage in March. As of the end of this month, I'll be done with the 2 year contract with AT&T. My company has already given me a cell phone and will give me the iPhone. Can I just use the iPhone like an iTouch if I take out the SIM card? There are games and utilities on the IPhone which I still would like to use with my wifi. Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes it will keep working as a Touch, however, you will need the SIM if you ever plan on upgrading the OS when new updates come out. When an update comes out it needs the SIM to activate even though the SIM doesn't have a plan.
Really there is no reason to take the SIM out. When they cancel the plan, the SIM just is not valid for an active account, but should be kept for OS updates.

  • HT3406 Turning an old iPhone into just an iPod

I was reading this article about turning an iPhone into an iPod, the example that apple gives http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406 doesn't help because the iPhone 5 chip is smaller then the one in my old iPhone. The old phone just saids (could not activate) and I can't get any further to do anything with it. Even when I have it attached to itunes, it will not allow me to do anything. All I want to do is put my old iphone in a ihome player and listen to music.
    Is this even possible?

Thank you but what I keep getting is the phone starts off by asking my language where I live then to set up my wifi and then it tries to activate the phone and then just said it can't be activated then there is no more options.
Not sure what I am missing

When I got my ipod I made an account with iTunes right from my ipod.Yesterday, I made a password lock to get into my ipod and I couldn't get into it even though I did the correct one. Now it says"connect to iTunes" BUT I can't because I never registered on the computer. I've tried holding the home and sleep/wake button for 10 sec and then only the home for 5sec and that might have reset it, but it didn't help. If any of you guys know what to do so I can unlock it I would appreciate it VERY much.

If you haven't done so install iTunes on your computer. http://www.apple.com/itunes/

  • Turn My iPhone 4 into an iPod Touch?

    Hi,
I'm sorry if this question has been asked (seems like it would be a fairly common question). I've used the search feature, as well as Google, but most of the threads/answers I've found seem to be "one-off" type of questions that don't really address the general issue.
Anyway, I had an iPhone 4. I just bought a new iPhone 5s. I simply want to turn the iPhone 4 into an iPod touch so that I can continue to use it to listen to music and podcasts while I'm exercising (seems like a better option than to risk dropping my brand new iPhone). What do I need to do this? Do I need to remove the SIM card? If so, how do I do this?
    Thanks.

    Hi All,
I too have a question on this. I have upgraded to the 5s and want to give my iphone 4 to my daughter to use as an ipod touch with no sim. I'm having difficulty setting up imessage and facetime on the device? I've followed a few posts an have erased all contents and all settings, put the old sim in (it is still active with network), set the phone up using itunes account with sim in with no success.... Waiting for activation...... is the status
You could/can use imessage and facetime on my old ipod touch so am I right in thinking that you can also do this with the iphone 4 with no sim?
    If so how..............

  • When I plug my iphone into the computer to restore it I receive a "network connection timed out" message. However, all of our other iphones and ipod touches will connect fine.

When I plug my iphone into the computer to restore it I receive a "network connection timed out" message.  However, when I plug in other iphones or ipod touches I can connect fine.  Any help would be appreciated.

Try a powered external USB hub.  It uses a 120V AC wall jack to power USB devices, and the Mac only needs to provide *just enough* to comminucate.  Best Buy, Target, Walmart, ... about $20.

  • Can I turn my old Iphone into Ipod? It says that I need a valid SIM card

can I turn my old Iphone into Ipod? It says that I need a valid SIM card

Follow these steps to use your iPhone without a wireless service plan:
Insert the SIM card from your new, activated iPhone or one that was previously used to activate the original iPhone.
Connect the iPhone to iTunes on a computer connected to the Internet.
Once iTunes activates the device, you're free to remove the SIM card and use the iPhone as if it were an iPod touch.

  • Converting old iPhone into iPod

    Hey everyone,
My father recently cancelled his iPhone 3G contract and went back to a regular phone, and he converted his 3G into an iPod touch. At the same time, he got a deactivated SIM card for his old Original iPhone; however, when we plug in the original iPhone into iTunes, its asking us to set up the phone as a new AT&T phone again.
My question is, if we go ahead and set it up with his wireless number, will it charge us $30 for the data plan again even though its technically a deactivated SIM and all we are doing is activating it so the phone stops bugging us to connect to iTunes?
    Once again to clarify:
iPhone 2G + Deactivated SIM asks for setup as new phone on AT&T (but we don't want to set it up as a new phone)

You obviously don't understand what I provided.
Why are you inserting a SIM card in the first place if you want to use the iPhone as an iPod Touch? Not using the iPhone since it was deactivated 2 years ago or regardless when it was deactivated doesn't require inserting a SIM card in order to sync the iPhone with iTunes or use the iPhone as an iPod Touch.
If you are trying to install a firmware update or restore the iPhone with iTunes (which installs the current firmware) without activating the iPhone, you need to insert the no longer activated SIM card that was used with the iPhone when it was activated in order to complete the process. There is no way around this. If you activate the iPhone, it is no different from activating any other iPhone.

  • Can the original iPhone be converted into an iPod Touch?

For those of us replacing our iPhone with the new 3G iPhone, does Apple provide any kind of way to remove the phone features of the original iPhone to convert it into an iPod Touch?
In this world of being environmentally friendly, this seems like a logical option that would generate additional income for Apple since they charge for iPod Touch major firmware upgrades.

  • Converting an iphone 2g into an ipod touch

I just bought a new 3Gs and they moved my sim card to this new iphone. How do I turn my old 2g into an ipod touch?

"They" should have left the SIM cards alone.
It should work fine, but if you need to update or restore you'll need to re-insert the SIM card.
