I manually moved my itunes folder-can't get back my library

I manually copied my whole itunes folder from *media drive b* to *drive a (the mac osx system drive)* since I needed to free up space on my media drive. The original itunes library file and the itunes music library.xml file created 6/2005 are still intact on the media drive with all the music. How do I force itunes to see this again. It is seeing an old itunes library I made instead of my current library.
Help !
Thanks

Here's the fix... I did overwrite the Itunes library file data that had all my playlists and other data. But to get back my songs and movies, all I had to do was drag the iTunes music folder onto iTunes and in 10 minutes walla, there was all my tunes and vids... Whew !!.. Play counts, date added etc, all wiped and starting form scratch. That's ok. *Lesson learned; use itune's functions to move your library from drive to drive !*

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
quit iPhoto and delete your iPhoto preferences (user ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iphoto.plist
and restart iPhoto - reset any preferences you may have changed (they will be set to the default now)

  • ITunes purchases, can you get back for free if Mac computer crashes?

I just had to reinstall my Mac OS X on my iMac, because my system crashed. (I know...macs aren't suppose to do that!) I lost all my purchased iPhone apps and purchased ringtones, and music. Is there a way to get them back without having to purchase them again?

Redownload the applications normally, and use this form to submit a request for the remaining content. Otherwise, try these instructions. If neither of these methods work, you can't.

  • Help! songs on external drive can't get back into library

    Hi everyone,
My PC laptop internal HD crashed last week. 3000+ songs on external hard drive designated D: I had a new intrernal HD installed, downloaded iTunes 7.3 and now am stuck. What is the easy way to get the external HD songs back in the library? Went to preferences>advanced and changed to D:\Music 2007 to match the EHD desigantion with no luck.
I have read countless posts and tried different methods. If I go to the "my computer" and click on External HD, I see the files and can double click and they will copy into the library one by one as I do this, but this will be too time consuming to do each one this way.
On the EHD the folder is designated D:\Music 2007. Any help is appreciated. I've tried to import, consolidate and a few other attempts with no luck. I don't see a "itl" or other type of file in the D: drive either like I've read on other posts. Have tried the shift key while launcing itunes as well with no luck.
    Please help,

Drag the folder Music 2007 on your D: drive to the Library listing in the iTunes Source List (left-hand column).
This will recreate the contents of your Library but not the playlists and related information (dates added, play counts, etc.)
Unfortunately, if you don't have a copy of the iTunes library files from your old hard drive, it's probably the best you can do.

That's not how to do it. You don't move stuff then set the iTunes prefs > Advanced.
Once you move the /iTunes/ folder, hold Option, launch iTunes and select Choose library... and select the ITunes folder on the external.
This will use the iTunes library file in the iTunes folder you moved.
Don't change iTunes prefs > Advanced.

  • ITunes will not open because the iTunes folder can't be found!

Okay, so I am trying to open iTunes and it is saying it can't open because the iTunes folder can't be found or created. The problem is it is RIGHT WHERE it is supposed to be, in the music folder. I click in and try, but it doesn't work. AT ALL. I'm more than a little angry. I just downloaded the latest iTunes, and I'm kind of upset bcause that is why it isn't working- it didn't have a problem before.
Can someone PLEASE tell me what is going on and how I fix it?

    Try this.
Press and hold the option key while starting itunes.
    Create a new library.
Select your existing itunes folder in your music folder.
With luck it will be happy now.

  • ITunes folder can not be found or created

I tried to install iTunes on my XP, installation worked out but when I start iTunes a message appears after the license agreement that says that the iTunes folder can not be found or created and then nothing happens iTunes doesn't start up. I tried to create a my music folder with a iTunes folder inside. Still the same message. In the next step I tried the whole installation advice posted on top of this discussion including uninstalling Tunes and Quicktime, deleting the Temp files and using the Windows Install Cleanup.
Now I don't have a clue what to do next to get my iTunes running. I hope there is someone out there who can help me.
    Give me my music back.....
    Cheers...Mork

    hi Luigi!
    I have the same problem!
i'm just going to double-check something. are you getting the following error?
The folder iTunes cannot be found or created and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the Music folder.
or is your one saying something different? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting them. (that may help us with the language barrier too.)
    love, b

Apple wisely leaves a copy of iMovie version 9 installed in the Application folder when you download version 10.

If it's showing the red disabled screen due to incorrect passcodes then you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset the iPad via your computer's iTunes and restore/resync your content to it

    Ditto.
You need to look for your itunes library under Computers and select it, then music.
Music column is for web based content not local content, just to confuse everyone.
