I message stopped working

iphone 4s os7.1.2 imessage and face time not working. I tried everything...including contacting my carrier and verifying apple id . any thoughts?

check your phone again... my services just came back on... (after me turning my phone on and off a few times and signing in and out of my apple id and standing on my head while out in the rain) so who knows which of these actually fixed the issue.

No luck with these troubleshooting tips either... I don't have a lot of time to dig in, but I did capture some console logs during an auth event this morning to see if it would show anything useful.
Console logs during authentication - 10:30am EST, 13 Jan 2014
13/01/14 10:30:35.120 AM imagent[7679]: [Warning] Empty account query with service: iMessage
    13/01/14 10:30:35.685 AM com.apple.SecurityServer[15]: Session 100532 created
13/01/14 10:30:47.546 AM imagent[7679]: ApplePushService: Certificate is expired
13/01/14 10:30:49.614 AM imagent[7679]: [Warning] Missing push certificate
13/01/14 10:30:49.646 AM imagent[7679]: [Warning] *** Listener ID: com.apple.CalendarAgent  does not have capability: (Status), not allowing request
It looks like there could be a certificate issue but I'm seeing a current valid cert for com.apple.idms.appleid.prd.xxx so I'm not sure which cert this could be referring to.  There's no indication in the console message and there is no useful information in the error message from the app.
I can log in to Messages on my iMac so I think it's a local issue only.

Text Messaging stopped working after changing Apple password, although it is still working on my iPhone.  I tried changing the password in the Settings>Messenger, but can't get it to work.  What do I do?

After I type in the message and click on the Send button, "Sending" is displayed, but at the end of this process, a message under the message says "Not Delivered".

    Hi Alo816,
I'm sorry to hear you are having such extensive issues with Messages on your iPhone. If you continue having issues sending or receiving Messages, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:
iOS: Troubleshooting Messages - Apple Support
If you continue to have issues with Messages after that troubleshooting, especially if it is still having or crashing, you may want to make sure you have a current backup of your data in iTunes, then try restoring your iPhone to factory settings and testing it in that default condition to see if the issues persist before restoring your data. You may find this article useful:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

  • Photoshop creative suite 5.5; error message "stopped working"; twain install failed;

I am at the end of my rope, I am about ready to uninstall the whole thing and install Corel. With the latest update of Windows, my Photoshop stopped working. I tried to download and place the twain drivers that the directions told me to, but the download came with all kinds of "optional" plug ins and no directions on where to put them, do i put all of them in the Import/export folder, do i put only one in there, is so which one? I have windows 7 on an HP machine, I need my photoshop for obvious reasons. there are also hints to another file/folder like twain, but nothing about how to fix that either...

  • Messages stopped working on mac

I've been using Messages on my Mac, iPhone, iPad, & iPad Mini for a long time. Yesterday I had to change my Apple ID; for some reason, even though I had it correct, Apple said the ID was wrong. Once I changed it, I made the change everywhere: iPhone, iPad, & iPad Mini settings, Internet & iCloud settings on my Mac, iTunes, everywhere I could think of and it's working alright in everywhere it was changed.
Messages is working on both iPads & iPhone but it's stopped working on my Mac. When I open Messages on my Mac, I get the menubar across the top of the page but the page is either blank or there's a box in the middle of the screen that says something along the lines of "No conversation selected." In the upper left corner of the box, there are the green & the yellow dots; no red dot.  I can't get to Messages Preferences as it is now greyed out, as are almost all of the options in the menubar.
On my devices in Messages under Settings, it shows both of my email addresses under Send & Receive.
I've tried restarting my Mac but that didn't help. I'm running Yosemite 10.10.1 on my Mac and iOS 8.1.1 on all my devices.
I'd appreciate any ideas as to how to fix this.

    HI
Whilst your Apple ID (presumably the @mac.com) may have been the original and been linked to @me.com at the MobileMe period and then to iCloud (@icloud.com) you need to keep to the same Apple ID through out (the iMessages server seems to treat them as different IDs to some extent).
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder and enter ~/Library/Preferences
Find and Drag to the Trash com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist
On the iPhone remove those emails that are not the Apple ID in use.
On Restarting the Mac version you will have to re-enter the Apple ID.
If you then restart again you should get the pop ups to say what the iPhone is using (linking the iPhone number to the Apple ID)
Once you enable Text Forwarding on the iPhone then the Mac Version should generate and show you the Code to then enter in the iPhone's dialogue box to pair the devices.
If each Contact is turning red as you try to Send and reporting that the Contact is "Not Registered with iMessages" then you have a different issue.
This is caused by a partial login to the iMessages server and it seems it is one of those that only contacting Apple Support and saying you have an Account issue with the iMessages server from your Mac can it get sorted. (make sure you say it is an Account issue)
Of course it is the iPhone that is actually sending the SMS messages so it does need to have Carrier service at this point.

  • FaceTime and Messages stopped working on my MacBook after I updated to Yosemite. Handoff does not work either. How can I fix this?

Before I updated to Yosemite, I could FaceTime other people and Message other people with the MacBook Pro apps. However, after I updated to Yosemite, they stopped working. I get "not delivered" feedback on Messages, and "call failed" on FaceTime. I made sure that both have the correct emails checked and unchecked in the settings as my iPod, and made sure that the "make calls from" or "begin new conversations from" coincide with my handheld Apple media player.
Am I not doing something? Am I doing something wrong?
    Any feedback would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Messages stopped working completely

Out of the blue Messages has stopped working - first lost all of my recent conversations and now when I try to send a message by hitting "return" nothing happens.
Is there a way to uninstall and then reinstall just Messages?
Really at a complete loss here.
This is on an old mac book pro, running Mountain Lion of course.

    Hi,
It would be useful to know what you have tried.
Start with the Apple Icon menu top left and About this Mac.
Does this show the Serial Number ?
In System Preferences > Date and Time does it show the Automatic server in use ?
Have you set it to the Correct Time Zone ?
In  Finder window use the GO Menu whilst holding down th ALT key.
    Select the Library that Appears.
    Navigate to Preferences.
Find the com.apple.iChat.plist and Drag it to the Trash.
Does the App start now ?
In the Font Book scroll to the bottom of the List and check the AppleGothic Font.
It should not  be disabled. It should validate (File Menu) and not be duplicated.
Also check the Helvetica Neue and Lucida Grande whilst you are there.
IF the app will open check the Details Button in Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages account
This should list you Location (county or Region for telephone International codes).

  • Nokia Messaging Stopped working

Last week Hotmail stopped syncing. I recovered this by manually checking all passwords etc, all were correct but it seemed to force the correction anyway. Today, both gmail and hotmail have stopped working. Have checked all settings and reinstalled NM yet still no sync!?
    Any ideas!?

This is simply unbelieveable. I have no words left to describe my utmost disgust with Nokia E-mail, Nokia E71 and all things Nokia.
Since we all agree the built-in Nokia e-mail application is a piece of **bleep**, I started using Nokia E-mail (Messaging).  Two days ago I stopped receiving e-mails (again!!!), and spent countless hours trying to fix it (the "countless hours" include a complete waste of time in contacting Nokia Canada in search for help - like the rest of Nokia, including Nokia web site, they are useless).  I NEED MY E-MAIL, I'm willing to pay for it if I can't have it for free, I just need a reliable and fast e-mail to connect me with my business while I'm on the road (which I am 90% of my time).
I removed Messaging from my phone, and now I'm unable to reinstall.  When prompted for password, I entered my e-mail server password, and got rejected.  I tried Nokia E-mail password, rejected.  Tried my webmail password, nothing.  I either get "server not found. please check the name of server and try again" or "password cannot be verified", or "log in failed. please try again later".  "Frustrating" doesn't even start to describe it...  Now I can't even get Messaging back on my phone.  As I write this, the phone is verifying my password for the last 20 minutes!!
In closing, I want to say that I pity everyone who choses Nokia, as this company has shown to me the total lack of professionalism, customer orientation and, I'm affraid, basic technical knowledge.  Copying USA cell phone technology was easy, making their own is somewhat more difficult, and for the poor Finns - impossible.  I'm stuck with this piece of s**t Nokia E71 for the next 2 years, but my revenge will be in spreading the word around that buying Nokia is the worst thing one can do.  There are much better and more reliable phones in One-Dollar-Stores around North America.

  • Messages stopped working. Can't login.

    Hi, All.
I am running messages on my Macbook Pro and it has been working OK (not perfect but OK) but a few days ago it just stopped working.
    When I start it I get a window asking me to sign in. I try but it refuses my username and password (the same one I've always used) and gives me the following message;
" Could not sign in to iMessage. The registering device does not have appropriate credentials. "
Why is this happening and how can I fix it ?
In case the information is relevant I am running Mac OS X 10.8.5.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
Resetting the PRAM/NVRAM  does work for some issues of not signing in to the Server in the iMessages account in the Messages app on the Mac.
However there are now about 6 different error messages that the account can give you.
There are these 4 FaceTime, Game Center, Messages: Troubleshooting sign in issues.
A 5th involves  a longer error messages with instructions to contact Apple Support, with a Code Number as in this pic.
I have not seen the reported error message that is quoted in the Original Post of this Thread.
Could not sign in to iMessages. The Registering Device does not have appropriate credentials
It can be the case that similar looking issues have different fixes and that the specific error message can help target the right "fix".
Did you have the same error message as the Original Poster ?

Telling Spotlight to re-index the disk might have solved your problem:
Re: Search Entire Message Not Working After Fresh OS Install
Deleting anything shouldn't have to be necessary. If it "fixed" your problem it could be just because that caused Spotlight to update the index accordingly.
What is weird about the other thread Ernie was referring to is that Mail couldn't find messages that Spotlight could, which I still don't know whether was also your case or not. I troubleshooted a similar case a few weeks ago, which I believe was caused by permissions issues. Unfortunately, the OP didn't provide feedback as to whether what I suggested there fixed anything or not:
    Spotlight non-functional

  • Messages Stopped Working

Messages was working fine for me until yesterday morning. I am running Yosemite 10.10.1 and believe my install to be current on my 2013 iMac.
When I click on the Messages icon, I get a problem report that states "Messages cannot be opened because of a problem" along with a dump of the problem details and system configuration info. Restarting my iMac doesn't help.
Is anyone else having this problem? Has something changed unbeknownst to me?  Is there additional information from the problem details that I can provide that would be helpful in suggesting a fix/solution?
    Thanks!

  • My I message stopped working today

It stopped working couple hours ago

What kind of user troubleshooting have you done. Try to power the phone off/on and then see if iMessage is still activated. If it is and you can still not send anything, try a reset, hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the phone restarts, check iMessage and then try to send.
