I message waiting for activation???

ever since ive returned from my trip to Hawaii my iphone has been having trouble sending imessages at random times even if i had perfect service it would fail to send the imessage and send it as a text. To try to fix this problem i turned imessage off then tried turning it back on. But when i tried to turn it on it says "Waiting for activation" underneith and it wont send imessages...what does this mean and how do i fix it

The iPhone needs to send an international sms to activate iMessage. Follow the article below for steps to help try and resolve the issue:

got new iPad - did all the stuff - hooking it up to iTunes, synched it, played for 2 days and nos it gives me the funny message "WAITING FOR ACTIVATION" - how long does it take? already been over 1 hour and NOTHING
    What do I do?...

Is it a 3G model? What does the screen look like? Is it showing the cable picture and the iTunes icon on the screen?
Try plugging it to iTunes and see what iTunes does in there. If nothing works, put it in Recovery Mode and restore it by iTunes.
    Hope this helps,

  • I get an error message "waiting for activation" while trying to turn on imessage

I had to reset my Apple ID password. After doing this i now have to log back into everything that requires an Apple ID to operate on my 5C. I dont currently have cell coverage as im traveling in Italy for work and don't have international coverage. Is there a way for Imessage to  verify my new AppleID password without recieving an SMS from Verizon. My phone is currently in Airplane mode with date and all roaming shut off to keep from getting an expensive charge. I have Wifi through a hot spot i carry with me but the Imessage gives an error message saying "waiting for activation" From everything i have found i guess it's waiting for network (Verizon) verification. Back to my question, is there a way to have Imessage verify my new Apple ID password over wifi using my email address instead of carrier verification? This seems to have worked for Facetime but i know facetime only uses Wifi.

    Hey Andrew,
That is interesting issue. If you are still not activated with iMessage, then you will probably need to turn your cellular data on so it can be linked with your phone number. Go over the article below to walk you through some general troubleshooting to get it going.

  • Waiting for activation have not found a way to fix this

Ok so I'm overseas and I cannot use cellular data because I don't want to get billed a crazy amount however when using wifi the first week I was here I was able to text and face time with no problem. Then we went for a week to the country with no solid internet connection however we set up a very weak hotspot using a tablet, that's when I noticed I wasn't able to text and I saw the message waiting for activation since it took around 5 mins to load a web page I figured it was just a problem with the internet and I ignored it. Now we are back in the city (where we were when it worked fine the first week) and I still have the same problem, I have read countless articles about how to fix this and nothing seems to work the only option I haven't tried is to wipe the phone and restore it with a backup however i can't do that since I am no where near my computer. So is there any one else having the same waiting for activation problem as me? Is there anything I can do, any help would be much appreciated.

    Hello there, Captnpnut.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great, in-depth and practical steps for troubleshooting the "Waiting for Activation" message:
iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4268
    Particularly relevant for your issue:
If you see "Waiting for Activation", "Activation unsuccessful", or "An error occurred during activation"
These messages occur when your iPhone is trying to activate your phone number with iMessage or FaceTime.
To resolve these status messages, follow these steps. After each step, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on again in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
Make sure that you have a cellular network connection with your cellular provider. You need a cellular network connection to activate iMessage and FaceTime with your iPhone phone number.
Go to www.apple.com in Safari to make sure that you have a data connection. You need a data connection to activate iMessage and FaceTime with your iPhone phone number.
Make sure that you can send and receive SMS. You need a valid SMS messaging plan to activate FaceTime and iMessage.
Make sure that FaceTime hasn't been restricted: tap Settings > General > Restrictions > FaceTime.
Set iPhone to the correct time zone: tap Settings > General > Date & Time.
Note: If Set Automatically is on but the incorrect time zone appears, turn Set Automatically off and choose the correct time zone, date, and time.
Contact your carrier to verify that there are no restrictions, blocks, or filters on text messages. Restrictions, blocks, or filters on text messaging will prevent iMessage and FaceTime registration from completing.
If "Waiting for Activation" still appears after you perform these steps, turn FaceTime and iMessage off and on in Settings > Messages and Settings > FaceTime. You may need to wait up to 24 hours to complete activation. Most attempts will take less than an hour, but some attempts may take up to 24 hours. If your issue isn't resolved after 24 hours, please contact Apple for assistance. If you've recently performed a remote wipe on your iPhone, wait 24 hours from the time you performed the remote wipe, and then turn iMessage off then back on.You can still activate iMessage and FaceTime with your Apple ID when these status messages appear. You can see that you've activated FaceTime and iMessage with your Apple ID by tapping:
Settings > FaceTime > You can be reached by FaceTime at:
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You can be reached by iMessage at:
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Waiting For Activation, help needed.

Hi, I have bought a iPhone 3G 8GB from ebay. I have checked the IMEI number on "checkmend" and there are no reported problems. It is apparently on o2 but I want to unlock it for use on Vodafone. I have bought a o2 pay as you go sim card so that I can get it unlocked properly but when I insert it I get the message "Waiting for activation, this may take a while" but it never goes until I press "dismiss" then it just says "No Service".
Under the carrier menu the only provider listed is Orange but under the "phone" menu in settings the last box does say o2!
Can anyone help? I've tried googling, restoring the iphone, uninstalling and re-installing itunes. Does anyone know what the problem could be or better still anyone know of a solution?

No way to tell really - I am always suspicious about 'the worlds largest, best, greatest ' etc checkers of anything. The four/five UK carriers all operate an IMEI block agreement between them and somehow I doubt that they would give up that information to a small company operating out of a Coach House in Gloucester
That said, who knows - its practically impossible to tell where a phone came from - you are not the first to ask by far! The others didnt manage to find out either. Sorry I cannot be more helpful - the only online checker that Apple have is a warranty checker but that won;t even tell you the country - just how much warranty left on it. https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

  • Face time waiting for activation

    Dear All,
I have got an iphone as a gift from a friend in Switzerland, I installed my Etisalat sim on it and the phone worked perfectly, facetime was activated immediately, and I could use it with relatives and friends living abroad.
I have upgraded to IOS 4.2.1 then factime disappeared and kept on showing the message “waiting for activation”
I spent the last 2 weeks just going through forums and discussions without finding an answer to this problem, although I did the following:
-Turned face time on and off thousands of times.
-Rebooted the phone many many times.
    -Reset all many times.
    -Upgraded to 4.3
    -Reset from back up
    -Reset as new
I believe the one who could solve this would deserve a senior position at apple.
    Pleeeeaaaaaase help.
    Damon

Sorry, but I can't help. I can only empathize with you that Facetime has some serious functional issues. Mine works off and on, depending on ..... whatever! There's no figuring it out.
Use Skype on the iPhone. It works like a charm, every time. Too bad Apple Facetime can't get it as right as Skype.

  • Hi guys, I have a problem with imessage. My iphone 4S is factory unlocked and i have been using t-mobile carrier. i tried settings - messages - imessage on but there is this 'waiting for activation' thing. Does anyone know how to solve this? Thanks!

Hi guys, I have a problem with imessage. My iphone 4S is factory unlocked and i have been using t-mobile carrier. i tried settings - messages - imessage on but there is this 'waiting for activation' thing. Does anyone know how to solve this?
    Thanks!

If you are in the UK:
Please upgrade your plan to Web n Walk plus. One of our users on T-Mobile UK had this to report back to us:
T-Mobile UK are in fact port blocking to ensure fair usage on their base Web and Walk Plan. I have upgraded to Web and Walk Plus and as a result the port blocks are lifted and I get a higher data allowance!
We were also recently contacted by T-Mobile UK, who stated the following:
Any smart phone (iphone, android etc) that is bought directly from T-Mobile should be automatically provisioned with Web n Walk plus, if customers have bought a handset sim free then they will need to call customer services and get this added. It is free of charge for most price plans (including new plans) but some older plans will generate a charge of £5pm for this.

when turn imessage on there is a message saying waiting for activation but it doesnt change anybody knows why?

    Hi guys,
I keep getting "waiting for activation" on my iMessage. I can only send/receive iMessage from my email address, NOT my phone number.
I have done all kind of fixing suggestions that I can find online, but nothing works so far.
    - Date & time set as automatic (I don't know why this matter, but mine was already set as automatic from the begining)
    - Reset network setting
    - Changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8.
    - Restore to factory setting (from back up & as new iPhone)
    - Turning on/off iMessage & facetime
    - Sign out/in of apple ID
    - Change location from apple ID
    - Hard reset/reboot
    And many others.
...me too. I'm in Portugal having the same issue!! Hopefuly Apple will give us a solution, shortly...

  • "Waiting for activation" Error Message

I get a "waiting for activation" message when trying to turn on IMessage and Facetime. I rebooted the phone and reset the network settings but it did not work. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

    Hi karla35,
It sounds like you have taken some good troubleshooting steps to resolve this. We have a great resource for this issue:
iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4268
I've been able to resolve this issue in the past with the section titled:
"Unable to activate FaceTime or iMessage with phone number and Apple ID after waiting 24 hours (iPhone only)"
Please note that step nine is very important, we want to restore from the backup. Do not perform a full restore.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
