I moved overseas and want to change my iTunes credit currency

A few months ago, I moved from Australia to Canada. When I arrived, I tried to change my iTunes settings to reflect the move so I could download local apps and the like. At the time, I had approximately AU$25 credit to my iTunes account from gift cards I'd redeemed. When I tried changing country, I was informed I couldn't as the credit was in Australian Dollars, which can't be used on the Canada store.
I was wondering if I can change the currency of my credit or transfer the credit over so I can change my location? I'd rather not just spend the credit for ease of change over, as I like having it there for small app and in-app purchases and its still a meaningful amount. I haven't found a thread that addresses this and I'm happy to speak with customer service or go in store if necessary (need to go in anyway) but if anyone has done this before I'd appreciate the advice.

You can't change the credit over; you need to spend it or ask the iTunes Store staff to zero your account balance. If desired, you can instead ask that the balance be put back onto the card, but won't be able to use it for Canadian iTunes Store content in any case.
