Thhere is no way that iPhoto did that - either source put the data on the photo, you used a photo editor to put it there or the receiving e-mail client is displaying it there - iPhoto has no capability to add any text including dates to a photo
iPhoto will display the date on an event while viewing photos if you have that option set in the preferences

Mail, I have recently been receiving inappropriate mail which I have put to junk and deleted but they keep on coming sometimes 3 or 4 a day, how can I get rid of these once and for all. I am a lady of advancing years and do not want this.

I have recently started to receive inappropriate mail. Although I have never opened it I can tell that it is of a pornographic nature. As well as this I constantly receive mail offering me P**** enlargement drugs. Since I am a lady of advanced years I want neither of theses !!! Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this unwanted stuff. I receive at least 4 of them everyday and am quite frankly fed up putting them into junk and deleting them, but still they keep coming. Can anyone help please.

Moving pictures from one iphoto library to another

Hello all, I have a simple question.
I have all of my pictures on one computer in an iphoto library. I have a new imac (it's quite lovely) and I would like to move all my pictures to that mac. Which folders do I need to copy and move to my new computer? I would like to keep albums, etcetera.
Normally I would just transfer all my stuff from one mac to the other and voila, it's done, but I have done that so many times that there is a problem with my User info and it has followed me from several computers now, so I am starting fresh. I would like to keep my pictures however. Which also leads me to my next question. Could someone suggest a good way to archive my 40 some-odd gigs of pictures?

Re: Copying the Library - Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions in the Library.
Re: Archiving: There is no permanent storage solution for digital material. Yes DVDs do offer longevity but even the most expensive are prone to problems eventually. The cheaper ones sooner! To my mind the best option is to have a variety of solutions, on- and off-site. Optical media, Hard Disks, Online Storage solutions should all be used - and more importantly - checked regularly.

How do you make some pictures in your iphoto library, eyes only protected

I want to make some of my pictures unviewable except by password or something so they are not accessible to the whole family, for example I bought my wife a present and took a picture of it to send to her dad and brother. She opened iphoto and you guessed it the picture was right there in the library for all to see, surprise ruined. There should be some way to hide some of the library pictures????

Gee, I don't know, but here's a thought: if you put them in the second library how about you trash them from the first one?

You don't. Again, you put it on an encrypted dmg or disk image. It's the disk that's encrypted, not the library.

Your comment "a zip" made me attempt to open it with winrar, and I found a manifest.fm file inside!
So far I was editing the one at the "source" of my project and rebuilding it with netbeans.

Moving iPhoto pictures to an external HD and then backing the HD u on time capsule using time machine

I have reached capacity on my 250 gb HD that is in my MacBook Pro. The majority of the space is consumed by iPhoto pictures and 45second videos. So I bought a 4 tb external HD to expand capacity. How do I put the pictures and videos on the external HD? And, please, explain it to me like I'm a 2-year-old: step-by-step.
Once that is done, can this setup be configured such that when I insert my SD card of 150. Baby photos from the previous day and upload them to iPhoto, can they save directly to external HD, or will I need to manually move them there?
Once that is all done, I need to run time machine from my wireless time capsule on the external HD (as well as the internal HD). Can I do that? Is there any real risk of iPhoto file corruption? And,how do I do it (again, please explain like I am a 2-year-old)?

To move the Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). You can do this with Disk Utility.
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
iPhoto will always use the last-opened library, so when you import photos, that's where they will go- onto the external drive.
There is no risk of library corruption while running a back up.
I'd ask the specifics of how to do it on the Using Mac OS X forum for your version of the OS.

Moved iphoto library and now get "!" ... ?

Hello everyone,
I recently came back from a trip during which I took many photos and stored them on my macbook. When I got home, I added a larger Lacie FW drive to my iMac as my dedicated "iPhoto drive." I moved the whole iPhoto library from the smaller FW drive to the new one (without playing with any of the insides - I know that's a no - no), then imported the trip photos to the new iPhoto library. The newly imported photos show up fine, but all previous photos show up as the grey box with outline in thumbnail view, or grey box with exclamation mark in full screen view. I have tried changing permissions to read / write on the newly added external drive (both manually and with BatChmod), rebuilding thumbnails / the library without success. The "blank" photos display their proper size (ex. 1.7 mb), and when I find them in the finder, they show up in full quality, so I don't think the photos are gone, just iPhoto isn't finding them for some reason after the move to the other drive. As a last resort, I can re-import the original photos to a new iPhoto library, but then I would loose all my folders, ratings, etc. Any ideas ... ?

I'm sorry but I know of no photo organiser that will spot duplicates with different filenames.
Some tips: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss. iPhoto Diet does this, and unless used very carefully can cause this issue.
iPhoto is designed so that you do everything you need to do in the iPhoto Window and NEVER in the iPhoto Library Folder. If there's something you want to do but can't figure out, check the Help or post back here.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

I would like to set up a new iPhoto library and copy some of my pictures in the main library to the new one.
Got the new library set up, and know how switch from one library to another ... so far so good. But I can't seem to bring pictures from my existing iPhoto library across to the new one.

Drag them to a folder in the Finder, switch libraries, and drag the folder into the open iPhoto window, or use the iPhoto Library Manager.

Yes, the Old Master file has a folder for each year where I find all photos from that specific year. I am attaching a screen shot of the file.
In the meantime i have managed to download all photos (it did not download any video files though in mpg, avi, 3gp, m4v,mp4 and mov format) to a new iphoto library. Unfortunately the photos are quite mixed and often doubled up. I ma considering to purchase iphoto library which checks all duplicates in iphoto. this will save me a lot of time. What do you think?

I have just downloaded my Lightroom software to my new computer which runs Windows 7. I had lightroom on my old Vista computer and just had to change the border size to remove it from my pictures, however, for some reason it will not let me remove it anymore. When I try to adjust the border size it states it cannot be smaller than .2. Therefore, I have a white border around all my pictures I am printing. HELP! How do I get rid of this border. Make sure you select a borderless papersize in the page setup. That will allow Lightroom to set the margins to zero. Otherwise it sets it to the minumum value the printer tells Lightroom it can print at at the current print size. Your printer and driver need to support borderless printing for this to work.

Events replace rolls (if your rolls are named - NOT the default rollxxx name - they will come across as is - to me events are rolls with much more capability and a new name - some people are VERY putoff by the change (but most love it) for reasons that I simply do not comprehend
10) What is the effective (or advised) maximum library size? I've probably got over 60GB of images in my libraries now, with 20,000 images or so. If 7 can readily digest them (and preserve all my albums, etc.), then I'd love to combine them into one, unless that will kill performance, make the database unstable, drive backups into interminable waits, etc.
The advertised max is 250,000 photos - I have about the same number of photos as you in about 1/3 the space - there are a few users here with libararies your size. With iPhoto Library Manager it is easy to maintain multiple libraries if you choose
