I movie is screwed

I have two problems. one specific, one generic, I have cut and edited some clips to make a three minute movie . My first issue is that the clips don't play continuously. I need to click on each of the clips to get it to run, in clipview plane and timeline. Secondly, my clips are now frozen,the scroll runs along the bottom but the video image has been frozen, don't know how to fix it. i have logged out and come back and the thing is still bad.
also, this is really stupid but why do my clips get saved in a format that has a clip board and a star and yet not as an imoveie or quicktime. I tried to convert it to a .mov but won't open that file which took forever to do.
The clips I am using where imported from isight a long time ago if that makes any difference. I want to unfreeze my clips have them run continously , convert to a .mov and burn onto DVD.

Hi corp...welcome to the forum!
OK, you have some confusion with how the programme operates:
1. To have your whole movie playback, you must not select (Highlight in blue) any individual clip, otherwise only the selected clip will play.
2. The 'clipboard with the star' is actually a 'package' that contains all of the project's media, reference movie etc. But you normally do not need to get into it. However, just to have a look, Control-Click on it, and select 'Show Package Contents' from the popup menu.
3. You do not need to convert the project to anything in order to create a DVD. You just go File>Share>iDVD, or click the iDVD button that is on the bar just below the Clips Pane. This will automatically transfer the project into iDVD.
I am not sure why your project has frozen - you could try a 'Save As' and see if that helps.

    You should make backups of all your files.  Losing a few movies may be the least of your worries when your hard drive dies.  If you have backups then it doesn't matter if you can download a second time.  Even if you could, a rights holder may decide to tell Apple to no longer distribute a movie, and then it would be gone again.  If you have it on your backup then that does not matter.
    The media rights holders say what can and cannot be done. Apple isn't known for announcing its plans until it is ready to implement them, so we cannot answer your question.

  • How do I delete a clip without every other clip in my timeline moving over?

    So i've been editing for hours, and somehow, the first 30 seconds of my movie were screwed up. So now i'm trying to re-edit the first 30 seconds. When i try to delete a clip, the rest of the clips following the deleted one, move over to this empty space. I do not want this to happen!!!!! I want the other clips to stay in the same place!!!! How do I delete a clip without having all the clips after it move over to the deleted space????

    Welcome to the discussions.
    In answer to your question, the clips behind the one you delete must move over to close the gap between the clips, an empty space left by the clip that you deleted. Otherwise, you would have a black/blank part in your movie.
    You CAN purposely create a black clip if you wish, but probably you just want the movie to continue as you have created it, leaving out the deleted clip. If your movie is just video, it should work out to be the same once the deleted clip is gone.
    However, if you have added some other audio, and not locked it to its corresponding video clip, the timing of the audio to the video will be off. Use the "Advanced" tool to select 'Lock audio clip at playhead' to avoid this. Once the audio is locked to a specific video clip, edits to other clips can be done without separating the audio and video. Occasionally, they still do get misaligned, so you do have to keep checking.
    If you really want to keep all the other clips the same without doing anything else, switch to Timeline view, and move the trailing movie over from the clip you want to delete, making sure that the length you move is the same as the clip to be deleted. Then, delete the clip. iMovie will create a black clip in that space and the rest of your clips will remain untouched. However, as I said, the movie will be interupted by this black clip.

    I am very much an amateur. I got a new machine. The old one had Server 2008 R2 but the recommendation was that I need to move to 2012 Express.
    When I moved to the new machine, the mover (LapLink) screwed up the version of 2008 R2. IOW, I now have to go forward and install 2012..
    I downloaded all the 64 bit files (5 of them). When I start SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe, the process starts and then I'm given the choice of a new install or upgrade. I chose the new install. The process started and I got the following message ...
    "Failed to retrieve data for this request.."
    There are no hints anyplace as to what this means.
    When I click "OK", a new status window pops up and proclaims that something is wrong. Then all activity stops.
    I don't know what to do. I can't use either version and I really can't tell you much more to help me.

  • IPhoto Library says it's empty-don't know what to do next-info overload

    Okay, I am a newbie. I am overwhelmed with all the info I've read in the forums and now I am afraid to make a move and screw something else up! Your help would be very much appreciated. I will give some background:
    Main Problem: My iPhoto is empty. There is nothing in the Library. Where did everything disappear to?
    1. I organized my desktop today (bad idea) - had lots of folders and photos on it (like a messy desk). Did this cause some of the problems?
    2. I moved the photos from the desktop into the "Pictures" file folder (with better folder names for me-more changed locations for the photos-another bad idea-huh?).
    3. While in the Pictures folder I saw the iPhoto library and wondered why it was there. I dragged it out of that place to the desktop. I put it back in the Pictures folder later thinking that was a problem, but at some point I got the message that there were no photos in my library.
    4. My iPhotos had many albums, books, etc... two books ready to go to print - of course they are missing in action.
    5. I had photos on my desktop (I used in my books, etc.) and photos simply imported into iPhotos from my camera (so they aren't on my desktop). Where would those photos be? They WERE in iPhoto as an Event. I didn't drag them anywhere.
    6. I don't have the Time Machine program set up. Just discovered that while researching this problem. I thought I could go back in time.
    7. I am using a iMac and have version 8 of iPhoto.
    What does anyone recommend I do?

    Sound like you may have created a second blank iPhoto library - launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and use the select library option to select from available valid libraries - hopwfully this will solve your problem

    That is not a problem AS LONG as none of the things you changed were in the iPhoto library (note that the all images smart folder displays items from the iPhoto library so you have to be very careful if you use it (probably best not to)

    THat is not good - never muck with the iPhoto library - and never change anything inside of it
    If iPhoto was running when you did this you may have a bigger problem - but for now lest assume not - most likely you launched iPhoto while there was no iPhoto library available and it created a blank one - hopefully step one fixed this

    Assuming that you left the default setting for iPhoto to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" your photos are all in the originals folder of the iPhoto library. Unless you deleted your iPhoto library in the process of playing around and emptied the trash - they are there.

  • Gaps between clips on the timeline

    I wonder if there is a way to gain control of moving clips on the timeline. If I grab a video clip on the timeline and drag it left, it bumps the adjacent clip and moves it left. If I haven't let go of the mouse and move the held clip back towards the right, the clip I bumped doesn't go back to its original position. If I leave the held clip where I dropped it, there is now a gap, which looks bad and can mess with the playback in iMovie.
    I would like a way to drag clips so that they butted up to the adjacent clip without moving it. I would also like a way to remove any gaps in one fell swoop.
    I am relatively new to the app: but to remove a gap, the only (lame) way I can see to fix it is to manually move each clip to the right of the gap. But because the clips that I would bump can move, that screws up everything. There must be a better way.

    Catspaw's solution is a good way to remove all the gaps. Note that to see the gaps represented as "Black" clips (instead of gaps) you must view the Timeline in Clips mode. Click on the little rectangle icon above the left end of the Timeline.
    Gaps disappear as you describe when you've previously added a gap by dragging a clip to the right. Creating that gap was probably a mistake, so losing it isn't usually a problem. If the gap appeared when you moved a clip right, the Edit > Undo Move command lets you undo that move.
    If you created the gap intentionally -- to serve as a placeholder for a clip you want to add later -- you can make it "permanent" by changing its color from black to some other color. (With the timeline in Clip mode, double-click on the "Black" clip to change its color.) Now the gap won't disappear as you drag clips towards it.
    All dragging functions are made easier by turning on these two features in iMovie preferences: 1) Snap to items in Timeline and 2) Play sound effects when snapping. When you drag a clip it's a lot more likely to land where you want it.

  • Moving junctions with wires

    In Multisim if I have a "T" junction with a junction dot where the lines join, and then I move the line at the base of the "T" the junction dot does not move. This leaves the junction dot floating in the middle of the top line and no connection where the lines should join.
    I must be doing something wrong because no one in his right mind would create a program that always worked this way (the junction moves automatically to maintain the connection in every other schematic program I have seen, even dating back to MS/DOS days).
    In some cases after moving a line that connects to another line a wierd maze of traces is drawn around the connection instead of just a simple straight connection. What should be a simple "T" junction degenerates into half a dozen or more traces looped around each other. Again, I must be doing something wrong because this is just silly.
    Also, if I have two lines that connect at a right angle and I drag one trace sometimes the other trace moves, totally screwing up the spacing between the traces - this is especially annoying when I have a lot of parallel traces separated by two or more grid steps and the progream tries to reposition them on a single grid spacing.
    I have a situation where a wire connects a resistor and an IC pin. I have tried to draw another wire from the resistor lead but the program insists on starting the wire at the IC pin, looping it around the end of the resistor. Again, this is pretty odd!
    I suspect all of these problems are related. I have looked for some options that might control these problems and haven't found any.
    Is there a way to make the junction dot follow the junction when a line is moved?
    Is there a way to disable the "auto scramble" mess?

    One more time!
    I have a vertical wire. I have the "L" junction of another net nearby. I want to conenct the two together.
    When I use "Place/Wire" the program refuses to draw a new wire between the existing wires. When I move the cursor over an existing wire the "+" cursor changes to an arrow, and if I click the existing wire is selected instead of starting a new wire. I tried to draw a new "L" between the two and later move the ends of the traces, but the program will not complete the new lines!When I press ESCape the lines disappear but a new junction dot appears in the middle of nowhere between the existing traces.
    I tried placing a junction dot on the vertical trace and then drawing from this junction. Instead the program began the new line at the end of the vertical line, and not at the junction!

  • NI 9505 Closed Loop Position Control Example

    Hello, I have a cRIO 9073 with a NI 9505 module that I'd like to use for simple position control of a unit along a lead screw.
    I don't have the softmotion module, and am trying to write a program bassed off of the "Position Control (closed loop) - NI 9505" example to control the position the small motor attached to the lead screw (Faulhaber 2342S024CR with a 512 count/rev encoder that we had laying around)
    I've reviewed the manual PID tuning example, and have not had much luck getting the response that I'd like when making large position moves simply by adjusting Kp,Ki,Kd gains of the position loop, as the overshoot remains too high for this application when making large moves.  The system is also oscillating about the set point, and doesn't ever seem to dampen out unless I change things other parameters on the fly such as the current limit, or current loop parameters (osciallations get worse as current limit is increased).
    Can someone advise me if the components of this example are up to this task?  Or on the interactions between the current limit, current loop parameters, and position loop parameters from this example, and which parameters would have the most impact on achieving desirable system performance?
    Is there a VI available that can autotune such a motor?

    Hello - there are many reasons why a closed loop controller can oscillate - from correct settings of controller (kp,ki,kd) to making sure signals act in the appropriate direction to deadband/friction in the actuator to badly sized signals/actuators.
    Firstly, have a look at the signal your controller is outputing (ideally in LabVIEW so you can graph it). Does it oscillate - perhaps as a sawtooth, a sinewave or simply switching between maximum and minmum values. I presume the electrical motor driving the screw which is driven from some AO signal from the cRIO (could also be a PWM signal driving the motor).
    I expect (from what you say about current limit) the control signal will be oscillating by switching between maximum and minimum (e.g. +10V to -10V) or oscillating like a sinewave. What values of kp, ki, kd are you using ? If kd is non-zero, set it to zero (you only need worry about this if you want to get maximum performance). Is ki non-zero ? Try setting it to zero - any better ? If you are still getting big oscillations in your control signal, keep reducing kp (e.g. half each time?) until oscillations disappear (as you reduce kp, control signal *should* get smaller - maybe not straight way though).
    If this does not make oscillations go away, then it may be that you have a sign wrong in your loop - i.e. a positive control signal makes lead screw move in opposite direction controller expects. This should be a fundamental thing sorted out when setting up the loop - you could do an open test to check which way +ve voltage moves lead screw. If you find it moves in opposite direction - you can either re-wire, or put a "-1" gain on controller output.
    If there is any more subtle oscillations / obersvations, then try to show some plots of the lead screw motion and control signal, as that always helps when trying to diagnose what is going wrong.

  • Encore Cuts off about 15 minutes of my video after I author it, Please Help!

    Hello everyone,
    I am not really a stranger to Adobe products but I am having a problem with Encore which is driving me crazy.  I am authoring a dvd of some home movies and a slide show to send to some relatives as a Christmas gift.  I have to send it out so it absolutely MUST be done within three or four days.  I have done every single thing perfectly and I finally went to build an ISO of the final result of all my hard work, only to find that once I mount the image and play it back on PowerDVD, the last 15 minutes or so of the main movie was cut off!
    What is going on here?  It shows up perfectly in Encore in the Timeline I set up.  The individual files I encoded play perfectly all the way through.  The main movie is long, about 2 hours and 41 minutes.  I expect to be using nearly all the space of a dual layer dvd, roughly 8gb or so.  Anyway, on the authored DVD, the runtime of the main movie is just 2 hours and 29 minutes.  It simply stops at that point and goes back to the main menu. 
    Also, as perhaps should be expected, my chapter points on the second half of the movie are screwed up, no doubt due to the screwed up timeline.
    Anyway, how can I get the whole movie to show up on my encoded DVD?
    I know it is not a DVD space issue because it comes out to just over 8 gb.  And besides, I am not yet burning it to a disc, I am creating an ISO to test so size shouldn't even be an issue.  If space WAS an issue, I would just re encode the video with a lower bitrate until I could barely fit it on a dual layer disc.  But as I said, I am sure that is not even relevent here.
    Could someone please help me here?  A very important Christmas gift is dependent on me being able to finish this project in Encore.

    Please post a screenshot of the flowchart.
    I think the single 2 hour 40 minute video is asking for trouble if you don't need it to be so long. In a compilation type DVD, it is usually not necessary. If you are putting multiple videos on one timeline, that is also more likely to encounter problems than making each video its own timeline and using a playlist for a "play all."
    Despite your confidence that certain things cannot be issues, they can be.
    It does sound like all should be well.
    Also, as perhaps should be expected, my chapter points on the second half of the movie are screwed up, no doubt due to the screwed up timeline.
    Also, chapter problems may be causing the truncated movie.

    I have photos and movies I took on a Sony Camera.  I want to use them to create a slide show.  The photos are shot in 16:9 aspect.  The movies are in mp4 with a 640 by 480 resolution (VGA).  What is the best preset to use in Premiere 10?  Hopefully I did not screw up by not using the AVCHD setting in my camera for the movies.

    Even Premiere Pro does not do a good job of "up-rezzing" SD footage to HD output

  • Main Phone Socket

    How much would it cost to move my main socket from upstairs living room to downstairs bedroom? About 25m in stright line.

    My master socket is in the bedroom cos the property im in used to be bedsits, however i wanted my master socket in the living room so i could use ethernet cabling to connect my computer to my BT Total Broadband.
    I cant use telephone extension lead as this reduces my internet speed to between 0.5 and 1 meg or sometimes totally non-existent. BT told me Bt home hub must be wired direct to main socket.
    I have BT vision/Bt total broadband and their phone line which is about £55 p.c.m. and they still want to charge me £199.00 to move one little white box some 50 feet which entails unscrewing box then move cable screw in box..... ridiculous.... surely if u are a regular paying customer with bills up to date it should be free.... would be cheaper to change provider.....................................

  • Shadows... try to understand them...

    Ok I've posted a few questions over the past 12 hours, ugh up almost all night playing with iWeb.
    I'm making a website for a friend's who owns not only a "biplane rides" business but is also the manager of a circa 1920's grass strip airport (all very cool) I really want it to be "nice"... I'm struggling with the shadow option, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and I'm wondering if its me or the limits of the program.
    I've used the shadow option on text and on pictures - with and without frames. However I have line that divides the FAA Nav information (elevation, open to public, FAA identifier, etc) from the body of the text on the page. It's just a single line. I'd like to add a slight shadow to that and the shadow option does not work. Am I doing something wrong or can you NOT put a shadow on shapes?
    Another shadow issue - when make a text box and then go to inspector and go to the 6th "tab" on inspector with the square and circle on it... if I pick "stroke" and then line and pick one of the dotted lines to outline a text box (this box is going to feature "special discounts" so I want it highlighted). If I chose the shadow option there as I type it puts a shadow on the text. I don't want that, I want the dotted line around the text box shadowed. Can I do that.
    Lastly, I'm using the Darkroom template (the Welcome one) and then trying to customize it some so its not too templatey looking. It has those pictures grouped together in such a way that they all have the same outer border... so when I try to put a shadow around that it does each picture individually (not to mention once in a while I "hit those pix and they move and screw up how difficult it was to line them up). Now that I have them set, can I group the pix together so they are one and then put a shadow around that outer border.
    I'm sorry I can't put the site up yet for you to look at, its going to be on Godaddy and its not set up to upload yet (they said 24-48 hours).

    Yes, you should be able to add shadow to shapes.

    No, it will add the shadow to the text. Put a rectangular shape over the text box and give the rectangular shape a shadow (it will shadow on all 4 lines, if you don't want that : add a line shape on top of the bottom line of the rectangular and add shadow to the line)

    Grouping : Not that I know in iWeb '08.
    Instead of clicking on them individually to select them, drag your mouse over all of them so you select them all without risking to move them.
    If 1 picture is overlapping an other (ex. behind the other), shadow will look messy.
    A quick way to avoid this is by "masking" the picture that is overlapping.

    PS : you may want to publish your website to a folder on your computer just for testing with different browser as not all of them understand the command "shadow"

  • Powermac Dual 2.0Ghz hard drive upgrade

    Hi,
    I was wondering if I could upgrade my hard drive. I was in Best Buy the other day and they had 2tb internal hard drives for a great price and was wondering if I could upgrade? Any if I can could I do it myself or would it be easier to take it to a computer store like Apple? Is it hard to put a hard drive in. Cheers everyone!

    Hard drives are relatively easy to remove and install. Look in your manual (or download it from the support site) and you will see that it's pretty easy.

    2TB drives run fine in these machines, with the popular caveat about avoiding "green" drives for the volume your system boots from. 2TB drives are getting pretty inexpensive now.
    Now, you need to transfer data from your old drive to the new drive, and probably the easiest way to do that is put the new drive in the lower bay first. (If you still have the overmold screws in the fan tab to the left of the drife bays, you should use those, but I would suggest putting the screws in the rear holes and the middle holes on the side of the drive, as that makes it a lot easier to get the drive back out. When moving the new drive to the upper bay, though, you need to move those screws from the middle holes to the front holes on the side.) Use Disk Utility to erase the drive, selecting Mac HFS+ (Journaled) as the format, then use SuperDuper! to clone your old drive to the new one. (If your old drive has multiple partitions, then you can partition the new drive to the same number of partitions, if desired and clone each partition.)

    Then move the new drive to the upper bay and you should be good to go.
    Oh, and be prepared to see that "great" price you paid for your new 2TB drive continue to fall after you pull the trigger. I started at $108 on special and then hit $98 and I think they are largely going for under $90 on special in my area.

  • The cursor moves at will while I am typing and screws up the work I have done. Can I trash the comp

    Is there any way to reduce the sensitivity of the mouse pad? 
    I have a laptop that is still under warentee.  It has been in the repair shop and I have contacted HP support twice.  I cannot type a complete sentence without the cursor jumping to another location and screwing up what I have already typed.  I know there is a double click on the mouse pad to turn it off,  but that is un-acceptable because I have to keep turning it on to move the cursor to another spot to operate a function then turn it off again.  Can I either:  return it to HP for a real computer, or, let the neighbors dog chew on it for a few days then throw it in the trash?  I have an HP printer that works very well for me, but for the money spent on this computer,  I don't think that any other HP products are in my future if this problem is not resolved soon.
    At this point, there has not been anyone who seems to understand how to fix it.  The telephone assistant really tried to find a solution, but it likely was not something that was covered in his flip chart. 
    I have had other computers and not one of them has been like this....  Perhaps I bought a top of the line laptop for not!
    It is a Pavilion dv6-6149nr. 
    It runs out of warentee on July first of this year.  I am discusted with it and the lack of help for the problem.  I have put up with this problem for long enough.
