I must be going stupid. midi problems

Question

is it me or is logic's clock really loose. no matter what i do, or what i set/change, sync on an emu mp7 or in logic i cannot get the wav to line up via the sample editor.
i have created a snare hit on every down beat from the mp7 via midi. i record via the rme ff800 on tracks 7/8, but there is no use in trying to get the wave recorded to line up. i am using an mt4 as the midi device. maybe i should try the rme's midi. is there anyway i should have the setup.
i have midi time clock set to destination mt4 port 1 (where the emu is). i have messed with the midi delay, but like i said is swings really bad so that doesn't do any good.
please help.

There are much faster ways. You kind of need to work backwards and cede to EXS24's mapping limitations if you really want to do this. Since you have AutoSampler...
To map quickly:
1. Several files, dropped on the EXS ed. keyboard mapped by Instrument chunk.
2. Several files, dropped on the EXS ed. keyboard mapped at specific intervals ( i.e. every 3 notes ) per each item in the dragging pasteboard. If you view Finder in columns, then it will be alphabetic.
3. Merging exs insts.
So you need to adapt to these points if doing everything strictly in Logic. To do this, you often want the resultant samples to be individual samples per file, and able to be ordered easily ( alpha is usually easiest ).
If you are sampling a pitched instrument then go low to high at a fixed interval such as every note, or every 4 notes ( save templates, sequences.. ).
Record the sequence as audio and adjust tempo to change each sample's recorded length. If your sequence was Q'd to every whole note then opt + cut thhe region at 1 measure ( divide multiple ) save regions as new files after renaming to some scheme. Grab them all and drop them all on the keyboard and auto map. Once you do this a few times you begin to use other apps and learn more tricks as you go.. there is a lot you can do... this is hardly touching the surface. In the end, Redmatica's compendium will be worth the time save if you have a lot of this to do. If you really have a lot, then you may want to consider a full featured sampler. There are 100s of tricks like the ones I mentioned. If you have days or weeks of manual, repititive things to do then get into scripting and 3rd party tools. One can actually script much of the basic processes that AutoSampler performs. For most people, it makes more sense to purchase, it will do it more reliably and faster with less user interaction. Make sure you have at least 1 good batch processing app. I have made strange setups like this where I just leave a computer running overnight and let sample libs spontaneously generate ( not always useful results ). Way too many avenues to get into here.
Eventually you start taking it really far ( like me ) and writing apps, using Terminal and all sorts of other apps and tools...
