Working on a piece with a retro sort of design. I want to export some textures to use as elements in fcp.
It seems no matter what I do, I cannot get a simple clip to render out to .mov all I get is black.

I cannot reproduce this, Jim. I have tried 10 different items from the TEXTURES tab: Eccentric, Ovals, Watercolor, Future Static, Drafting Back, Burgundy, Heliosphere, and some others. Each and every one renders out as lovely movie.
At the risk of asking the obvious, are you SURE you have the texture above the background or Render Background option properly set?

Ok, like my subject says, "I must be stupid." I am fairly new at Java,
about 1 year to be approximate, but I have never done any type of
graphical application. I have done a few graphical applets, but I seem
to be having a lot of trouble with this. Here is what I want, I want
a window (frame) to open which has a menu bar at the top. The problem I
seem to have with this should be a simple answer. I want the color of
the menu bar to be the same color as all other menu bars that the user

probably do this. Next, I want to have some buttons and text boxes down

I Must Be Stupid (Ken Burns Effect)

My problem is thus.
Using the Ken Burns effect on a photo which lets say is a full frontal picture of someone standing it zooms in on the mid-section and head is gone. What I want to do is start the effect on the head and zoom out to a full body shot. I say I am stupid because I have read and re-read the help for this topic and I just don't get it having tried anything. Any help in accomplishing this step by step would be apreciated and a place in heaven will be awaiting you. LOL. Kevin

With the KB effect turned on for that photo, set the KB "lever" to start and zoom and adjust the photo to get what you want for the start. Then click the lever to end and reset the photo with the zoom and sliders. That should do it.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

I must be stupid... Where have my playlists gone?

Touch 2G... I went to a lot of trouble to create my playlists. They synched okay when loading the Touch. But now, when I touch Playlists, all I see is Genius and On-The-Go. Where is all my music? I can access it through the alphabetical lists of Artists, Songs and Albums, but my Playlists are nowhere.
What am I missing?

Ah! Okay. The Touch must have been recently synched to show the Playlists. That's very different to regular iPods I have owned when the playlist list is always available.
Now I have another problem: it's regarding permanent extreme loudness. That's for another thread I think.

Hi everyone... I'm almost a week into ownersip of my first bb and I have managed to befuddle myself. My faves are gone from te ome screen. They used to be there and I remember an option to hide them but can't find it now. I tink it happened wen I swapped out my memory card. Save my day?? Thanks!

are you sure you are still on a fav plan?? i cant tell u the countless times i have people coming into the store sayin they missing their myfav to find out they no longer on a fav plan because they changed it... IF you are certain you still on a fav plan then ...
Did you just get the phone or restored it or wiped it ? If you did any of the above u can either (1) call customer care so they can restart the fave software remotely (2) login to the tmobile website and go to manage fave option (3) go into a retail store and have the rep restart the software (depends on the rep u meet some may login your account thru cam and do it for u other may put u on the phone with care)

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

Another way would be to copy your music directly from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you are happy with.

After upgrading to maverick my epson WF-2540 scanner will not work. There are no upgrades showing so what do I do?

After I upgraded to Maverick my Epson WF-2504 scanner will not work. There is no software update showing necessary either. I have gone to the Epson website but it doesn't offer a download. It tells me to go to "software update" ??? Any suggestions?

I was hoping for a good bubble bursting, but I tried that HP "update" as soon as my printer stopped responding. I really really wanted my bubble popped.
One needs the Apple supplied driver for this work. It will not work because the driver to basically function on the updated Mavericks is not supplied by Apple Updates, so the HP driver that stops printing an extra page is rendered useless. I spent, wasted two days going back and forth between Support threads, HP chat and on the phone, through all the Mac channels where I was told that the 2011 HP was antique. HP said Apple had the drivers. So, they pointed a finger at one another with this unlucky customer caught in the crossfire. HP said Mac did it and Mac said HP did it. BOOM ! goes the guy in between who spent a good bit of money to have good equipment. What is wrong with expecting a printer to last beyond 3 years, or for a back up drive to last more than 3 years?
I do appreciate the attempt to help though. It was here in Discussions where I was guided to the gimp driver, drivers which in the past always worked when needed but in this case something wicked about Mavericks prevents it from working. No matter how many times HP says it works on their site all you have to do is try and then speak with customer service to find out that in a parellel universe this may logically hold. It does not hold here. If it were the case that by working in Lion it would work in Mavericks then there must be something wrong with me. But why, APPLE, is it that one day it works, do the update and then it does not when Lion was the previous OS? I did Everything, every single thing recommended by people who had good ideas and wanted to help but all too often the facts tell us nothing of the world. Facts are tools used to decieve, the world is where it works or does not work and in this case Mavericks has cost me close to $300. Probably not a big deal in some cases, but money is money. When it is gone it is gone.
I followed the complete uninstall, going into library and removing all HP, then restarting and lo and behold HP driver for 4500 not only was not present but along the way my 500gig back up drive died, as in dead, nothing.
Of course I will not buy another HP product. If you go to the list of drivers Mac says it carries the HP Officejet 4500 wireless may be present but is not carried by Apple. I have tried Apple update over and over. What I have done is wasted my time and money. In one fell update I lost a printer and a back up drive. No storms, no loss of electricity, no boogie men lurking, no malware, no gremlins, nothing but an innocent customer updating when Apple said "update". Sure it is serendipity that both my printer and back up drive died on the same day at the same time following the Mavericks update. Who am I but a loyal customer? I must be stupid because my equipment stopped responding after the update. It is not new that there are bugs and glitches following updates. I was a beta tester for OS X, it wiped my computer clean, but I understood, it was beta.
A friend told me the same about planned obsolescence in that since printers are cheap and ink is expensive they don't really care about customer satisfaction. Three years old is antique, out of date. We should and must all be angered by this hatred for the customer shown by manufacturers across the board. Blaming the customer is ridiculous and absurd but not unheard of, in fact it has become the rule of thumb from the other side. The customer is innocent. All we want is to buy premium equipment and to have it behave in a manner befitting the cost. I am an Apple user since 1994. I designed a restaurant on a 333 mhz black and white Mac. You know, the big floppy disc one. I am not new to Apple. Fiercely loyal for 20 years. This is the most angered I have been by the flippant attitude shown to us all.
Thank you for giving the links and hopeful advice. I tried them all when I first had the troubles. The good people in discussions, not the Apple plants, but the users, tried their best. I thought that by coming back later there would be updates and new links that would help. But no. Maybe one day. HP lost a customer, it means nothing to any of the manufacturers when a customer is ridiculed by their cynical attitude towards the customer. Maybe there will be someone else to come along here that has had similar experiences and found a way to fix. Used to be a gimp driver could do the trick. Used to be a way. I fear we lose control of our equipment more and more every day. This is not a rant. It is a somewhat sad expression of having been ripped off. Discussions here have helped in the past but the more things advance the less we matter. And as in the past when I was mad about an Apple failure a member sent a fix and I printed the fix for others to use in return. We help one another in the best of ways. Please spread the word, maybe there will be a fix to show up here sometime. I kissed my iOmega back up drive and the 500 gigs of writings, photos, backups and music goodbye, gone forever, poof! But the HP printer is still here on my desk. I don't want to give up hope.

Lion is a step backwards

Lion is a step backwards that appears to indicate a philosophical switch towards dumbing down. I realize there's lots of Mac newbies coming from iPads, iPhones, and iPods. I have no problem simplifying things for the masses, but why make the Mac OS less useful for your loyal power users? Why can am I no longer make the choices I once did? Lion makes me feel like I'm on Windows. I can only do things the way I'm allow me to, and I now must conform unlike before. I used to be able to configure my Macs to work the way I want them to. No more. A few examples:
1. I cannot assign apps to spaces. Those settings are gone. As a result, I have apps on top of each other which I hate. Even if drag one from one desktop to another within Mission Control, they eventually wind up on top of each other. Going full screen with the apps that can do that just creates other irritants. Why take away this control? How is it an improvement not allowing me to use my computer the way I want? I hate Mission Control because I have no control over it. This is a major issue for me.
2. I cannot access the dock from a full screen app. It doesn't show when my nearly ten year habit occurs. As a result, what once took a single click can take up to 5 gestures to get to the app I want. Thank God Apple hasn't taken away command+tab. Why throw away an ability I've used since 10.0? How is this better?
3. My home library folder is now hidden. I must be stupid and in need of protection from myself. Is Apple sure we will NEVER have to toss a corrupt preference file again? Yes there are work arounds, but why hide something the masses rarely messed with in the first place? At least add a "make visible" check box within Info for those of us who know what we're doing.
4. I like my devices at the top of my Finder windows because I have a lot of networked devices, but I'm FORCED to have them only at the bottom. Why can't I arrange my sidebar the way I want? This just feels like change for the sake of change without giving me any choice.
5. Many .dmgs open their own window for easy drag and drop installations. Once done, I always clicked the button in the upper right to show the sidebar to eject the .dmg. Gone! Why is it better for me to have to switch windows or go to the desktop to eject a .dmg? Why are extra steps better?
I'll quit here, but all of this suggests a philosophical shift that assumes I can no longer be trusted to configure my Macs to run the way I want. This appears to be the beginning of the end of what made Macs so great. Lion is a step backwards for the faithful.

That is true. I can't speculate on Apple thoughts on this issue. I can say that many applications had problems with Spaces and it was the source of many complaints. Apple listened and tried to make a change that would be useful to more people. Unfortunately, those few people who were using Spaces effectively are now out of luck.

Full screen mode is designed to isolate you from the system. If you really want to access the Dock, you have to mean it. Move the mouse to where the Dock should be. Then, try to go further. The Dock should then appear.

That is true. Apple is trying to discourge people from going in there. Most people will only do harm. This is certainly a work in progress. On day 1 of Lion's release, one of my first posts was to instruct someone to go in and delete some Dock preference files for a corrupted LaunchPad. In the Finder, just type Shift ⌘ g and enter "~/Library".

I think Apple is trying to move the OS towards more document-centric use rather than dumping them right into the root of the file system. I'm sure there are many ways to give you the same functionality. I suggest starting a new thread for that question.

You can eject it from the File menu or with ⌘ e.

Apple trusts you. It is the other 40 million unwashed they don't trust. The sad? fact is that Apple is getting more popular now than it has ever been. Apple is trying ways to make the system easy enough for Windows or even Linux users to use. Old timers like us, used to working in a certain way, need to adapt. You don't have to do everything Apple's way. There are alternatives even to the Finder. Just give it some time and explore some new ways of doing thing.

The scene is simple : I got a software (All in plain java ) and some simple web access to this system. ( it's not a real web server wich will be in need for Apache or some big container it's just a few access to some informations of the software )
The client company is all MS Windows, and it's used to some SSO approach,
they got a AD server on Win2003, all laptops are under winXP Pro and got IE at least version 6
Now The question is this ;
I got
-a guy (properly authentified) who is
- using IE (properly setted)
- on a computer (properly attached to AD)
to access a ressource URL of my app
It's quite simple to send him a http 401 or 407 so IE go back to the AD server and get its token
BUT how can I manage in java to extract the account used by the client
from the SPENEGO token ? this is all I need
I cant find any help on this, So please if someone can help me in this...

Hi,
I recently had enough of junkmail getting through my ISP's filters and Sylpheed's bogofilter, even after regular training. I decided to make a white list by making filter rules that would divert spam to the Junk folder, if the From: header did not contain the name of an email domain from my address book. I then asked my regular contacts to sent a blank reply to my email just to make sure they get through to the Inbox.
Within 48 hours I received an email from a spammer that used a fake From: with an email address supposed to be coming from my ISP's email server! Now I think there are at least three ways this could happen:
The spammer breaks in regularly into my machine (which I run as a normal user) and discovered the white list filter arrangement.
The spammer inercepted my email on the way to my regular contacts.
The spammer has spyware installed on at least one of my contact's machine and obtained a copy of my email.
Whatever the case, I now even have junkmail arriving with my own address in the From: header! Any idea which is the most likely way the spammer(s) intercepted my email? I may soon change to a new ISP and would like to take measures, if at all possible these days, to guard my new email address. And is there a way I can find out if one of my contacts has spyware installed?
Please help! This is rather a serious problem for me and others as well, I should think.

From: is a free-form field, just like Date:, To:, Subject: or anything else.
You can put anything you like there and spam with your own From: address is a rather common sight.

Now I feel this strongly suggests that the spammer read the email I sent to my regular contacts. And before this happened, I never got any emails with a return address other than some apparently random dummy email.
If he was smart enough to find out that I made a whitelist to avoid junk mail, why does he suggest I put him in the address book? I guess he thinks I must be stupid, trying as I did to avoid junk mail!

Need to remove password when starting computer and ECT

I have posted a few times, but I think I only got one response, I have a few problems with this laptop Model # Satellite A135-S4527.So I'm going to list them and maybe some can help,other wise I may take a hammer to this laptop.
1: I put a password on my computer and I need to know how to get it off .
2: My text size keeps changing from large to very small ( I can barely read it) I have tried everything that I have read to fix it but it doesn't help.
3: Now my laptop has started going to lock up computer by it's self and I keep having to log in again over and over.
4: And for some reason I must be stupid because when I get in here, I can never find if some one answered, I'm sure I
have other problems but my brain just went dead, I do hope some one will be able answer these problems

First off, ALWAYS provide the COMPLTETE Model Number of your system when you post. WIthout that we are flying blind. Also, it helps to tell us what operating system you are running.
Number 4 is easy. Click on your user name and it will show you every thread you have started as well as every post you have made.
You'll need to be more specific on which password you need removed as there are several possibilities.
You need to run chkdsk/r to clean up the hard drive. Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - Command Prompt and type in chkdsk/r then hit enter. Type in Y when it asks if you want to run this at the next boot and then restart the computer. This could take over an hour depending on how screwed up your hard drive has become. These instructions are for WIndows XP. Vista might be slightly different, but I don't have a Vista system available at the moment to check.
I have no idea about the text size change. I've never run into that before, but there are posts in your previous threads about this.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

How do I send a phone number by SMS?

If you are looking to send a number from contacts, etc., to someone else via SMS or email, you need to type the number in manually. There is no copy/paste on the iPhone. From some apps (e.g. contacts, Safari) phone numbers can be dialed directly by tapping the number, but cannot be 'transferred' to a message.
