I must purchase Lion in order to run iCloud?

My info in iTunes reads that I don't need to sync through iTunes because it is (alledgedly) being synced wirelessly.  Nothing is being synced, just duplicated.  I can't find anything in Finder on the Mac that says I have iCloud.  I saw on the Apple site that I must buy Lion to use iCloud.  Does this mean only Mac users with Lion can use iCloud?  I thought that even PC users were able to?  I'm a bit confused and I really need to get my phone back to being properly synced with my Mac, as it was before I installed iCloud.

OK, when I go into iTunes, under the "info" tab, it reads "your calendars are being synced with iCloud over the air".  If I don't have iCloud on my Mac, how is it syncing the calendars?  Without attaching the cable, the calendar events are duplicating.  I have the newest iPhone, should I just shut off all the iCloud options until I get Lion installed?  Thanks for your help, I'm so used to everything being so easy with Apple products!

  • If i have model A1811 should/can i download lion in order to get icloud? Are they compatible?

If i have model A1811 should/can i download lion in order to get icloud? Are they compatible?

A1811 is simply the white or black plastic case non-Unibody MacBook. Any one of 17 different models.
To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The model 1,1 cannot run Lion all the others can run Lion but you'll have to max out your RAM and upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard first.
You can upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.5 will run under10.6. You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/   I recently upgraded an older MacBook (model 1,1) straight from 10.4 to 10.6.
To upgrade your iLife and iWork. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers from iWork '09 for $20 each.
You can order a Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least1gb of RAM and 5gb of free space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion for $29 from the App Store if you have at least a model 2,1 MacBook. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • I'm running off of OS X 10.6.8.  Do I need to upgrade to snow leopard, THEN to Lion in order to utilize Icloud?

I'm running off of Mac OS X 10.6.8  Do I need to upgrade to Snow Leopard, THEN to Lion before I can use Icloud??

    10.6.8 is Snow Leopard.
Yes, you need to upgrade to Lion to use iCloud.

  • I have a macbook 10.6.8 snow leopard, do I have to purchase OS X Lion in order to use iCloud on my devices?

I have a macbook 10.6.8 snow leopard, do i have to purchase os x lion for icloud to work on my devices?

“Apple may be working on a Mac OS X10.6.9 update to extend iCloud to Snow Leopard, an error message reveals,” MacNN reports.
“After upgrading a MobileMe account to iCloud, one developer says he encountered a unique error message in Tiger’s .Mac preferences pane,” MacNN reports. “‘You will no longer be able to sync with this machine because you’ve upgraded to iCloud,’ it begins. ‘iCloud requires running Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.9 or later for Contacts, Calendars, and Bookmarks.’”

  • MPB Early 2011 replaced HDD. I need to purchase Lion in order for my recovery to work. Lion is not listed in the app store or my purchases.

Where can I purchase a license of lion. My MBP didn't come with any disks (open box). I have purchased Mountain Lion and can't get it's download to work either.  I get "This download is currupt or has been tampered with". When I boot into recovery I have the option to install Lion but don't have it in my purchases. I just want to purchase it, unless other have a better idea.

I can imagine your frustration.  I just checked the App store and I can find Mt. Lion (10.8) but not Lion (10.7).
I can see only two options:  One, is to call again and be very persistent.  I got the Lion download only via a redemption code from Apple support, so I have been through this process, except I did not hit the brick wall that you have.  Second, if you have an Apple store near by, visit it, and explain to them your problem and get relief that way.  Often face to face encounters are more effective.
    Ciao.

  • Is it possible to upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5 in order to run iCloud?

I have a iMac desktop and MacBook with 10.4.11.  My wife's iphone 4 and ipad are good for icloud.  But the Mac OS requirement is 10.5?  Is this salvageable or do we need to consider a new computer?

Lion is not available on a DVD. It's a download from the Mac App store and requires 10.6.8 to be installed.
Snow Leopard is $30 from the online Apple Store, Lion is $29 to download from the App Store.
It may be possible to install directly from the Lion thumb drive ($69 from the online store) after partitioning and erasing the boot drive, but I'll leave that to someone who's done it.
    Certainly the MB will have to meet the minimum specs;
Note that the minimum processor spec is Core 2 Duo.
    Core Duo won't support Lion.

  • Question about purchasing Lion

My friend just bought a Core 2 iMac with an older OS, not sure which version. I don't have a lot of experience with this but, as I understand it, you must purchase Lion through the Mac App Store, which is only available on the OS immediately previous to Lion. Is it okay to use a different Mac to create an app store account, purchase Lion, create install media, and install to his own iMac?

It is technically possible. That said, I believe the SLA excerpt below explains the legality.

  • How do I change my apple id on iPhone4 in iCloud?  In mail, contacts the apple id is correct and matches my new apple id.  I had to change my apple id when I upgraded to Mountain Lion in order to have calendar, contacts and other sync with iCloud.

How do I change my apple id on iPhone4 in settings/iCloud and settings/mail,contacts,calendar?  iCloud does not sync with my iPhone4.   iCloud syncs fine with my iPad and my iPad has the new apple id in settings/iCloud.  I had to change my original apple id when I upgraded to Mountain Lion in order to have iCloud sync.  iCloud does not sync with my iPhone4.  My iPhone4 settings/iCloud shows my original apple id and will not allow me to change it.

To change your iCloud ID you have to delete the account, then sign in with the alternate ID.  Before doing this, if you want to keep your data and move it to the new account, go to Settings>iCloud and turn each of your synced data to Off, and when prompted choose to keep the data on your iPhone.  When everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account, the sign back in with your other account ID and turn syncing back on; when prompted, choose merge.
If all your data is already in your other account then you don't need to do this.  Just delete the account from your phone, selected not to keep the data, then sign into the new account, turn on data syncing and if prompted, choose merge.

  • Trying to upgrade from snow leopard to lion. Father already purchased Lion online a few months ago but did not use upgrade (did not know cmp was already running on lion). How can I use his upgrade on my computer without having to buy another Lion upgrade?

    Hi,
Basically my computer is running on Snow Leopard. My father bought the Lion upgrade to install on his computer, however, it ended up being that his newly purchased lap top already came running with Lion -- thus, he never ended up using the Lion upgrade he purchased. Now, I would like to use the Lion upgrade he purchased but did not use to upgrade my computer to Snow Leopard. The information he gave me for this was the Web Order Number, Part Number, and Content Code for the Lion upgrade. How do I redeem/use his upgrade to update my computer to Lion without having to purchase another copy of the Lion software from the App store? Is that possible?
    Thank you so much!!!

Unless he controls your machine (same household), you can't. At $30 USD, pop for your own copy.

    About AirPlay and Airplay Mirroring
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). For non-qualifying Macs you can try using Air Parrot.

    Hi,
Have you tried your country's online Apple Store?  Snow Leopard is still available on mine, here in the UK.  Otherwise, your best chance is eBay.  You might also try CeX.
    Good luck,
