I need a back up mobile power source
My new macbook pro battery cannot be changed. My job requires a back up battery or similar power source. How can I do this?
So I would like to ask the question: DO I REALLY NEED A BACK-UP FOLDER THAT'S ALWAYS STORING INTO THE COMPUTER'S HARD DISK?
YES!

I performed a time machine backup without plugging my labtop into a power source. My computer died and all the settings were changed, ie the clock and date were changed back to 2001. So I tried to restore my computer using a previous time machine backup. (which I now know was wrong). However, when time machine tried to restore it said there was not enough room to do a backup. It seems that it did a half backup because some essential files such as system profiler are now missing. Can I undo this restore...? What can I do to fix this
You need to do a full system restore, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14.
If that sends a message, please note the exact wording. -
I'm travelling and trying to back up my new iPhone to iCloud. I have sufficient storage, am connected to wifi and it's plugged into a power source and yet it doesn't seem to work at all. I'm currently in India. Could that be the cause or can anyone suggest any reason why this wouldn't work?
"gets stuck" - are there any error messages?
If you get the error "Backup not successful" and you've tried deleting the last backup and trying to back up manually without luck, try the following test: Go to...
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap your device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options. Turn off all apps from backup and then do a manual backup. If that doesn't work, then this post will not help. If the backup works, then go back to the app list and turn some on and try another backup. If successful, keep repeating these steps. If it fails at some point, then try to zero in on the one app that seems to make the backup fail. (I had this problem and found one app failing, probably due to a corrupt data file.)
This process will take time, but if a backup works with no app data being used but clearly fails with the original settings, then somewhere in the mix of apps is a "bad" one. -
I am using UPK developer 12.1.0 single user. My sofware has crashed and needs reinstallation. Please suggest how can I take back up of my source files. I am unable to open the application and i can not locate the library backup folder on my local machine.
Also, does reinstallation takes the back up automatically or the files will be lost. Please help. Here are a bunch of scripts to get folder size under all circumstances. Take your pick.

I have new HD 750GB Hybrid in 2008 Macbook Pro 17" w/ Snow Leopard 10.6.8 connected to old Hard drive(250GB that had 10.5.8 on it at time of failure) via SATA cable to USB port with external power source.. Computer not acknowledging old HD at all in Disk Utility or otherwise (that I'm aware of)..Do I need to partition New HD and load old(10.5.8) onto partition to recognize older drive for data recovery? Thanks Wayno08
You do not need to load 10.5.8 onto your new drive in order for a 10.6.8 system to see the contents of a 10.5.8 system.
You might want to check out the hard drive troubleshooting bootk in the downloads section of this web site:
http://scsc-online.com
They also sell a product named Phoenix that can do OS extraction and volume copying/cloning, but to be honest I don't know if it's appropriate in this case.
I would suggest the following:
Open up Terminal.app (under utilities) and type "diskutil list" without the quotes. This is the command line version of Disk Utility. If the external drive doesn't show up at all, then it's likely not connected properly, not getting power, or just plain dead. If it shows up with only a devce name like disk0s16 but no volume it means the drive is seen, the OS just can't make sense of it.
Assuming the drive shows up, I would try to boot off the original installl disks for the system and run Disk Utility from that. I'm assuming the drive will show up. You'll want to select the option to repair the drive and then perform the option to repair the permissions.
If the unit isn't showing up, as per step 1, try a different USB port. More importantly with your unit, try it on another side of the unit if possible. If you read the book I referenced above, some of those units have I/O boards that are separated from the logic board. If the cable from the logic board to the I/O card goes bad or has problems, which isn't all that uncommon, some or all of the ports on the I/O card may appear to be bad as well. If you use a USB port on another side, it would be routing out of a completely different I/O path, so that's a potential problem.
If the drive is only seen with a device name such as disk0s16, it's likely either the index files are corrupt beyond Disk Utility's ability to see them. The only thing that I think would help would be a product named DIsk Warrior, but I can't guarantee that.
Disk Warrior can be found at:
http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/
The company that I linked in the first link above also makes a product named Scannerz that does HD and system testing. The Scannerz/Disk Warrior combination make a good pair because the complement each other....Scannerz does what Disk Warriror can't and Disk Warrior does what Scannerz can't. However, at this point I'm not too sure getting a tool like Scannerz would be of much use because it sounds like the damage has already been done.
Let us know what happens. -
My Phone Just Shuts Off and won't come back on unless hooked to a power source. I've got all the updates and all apps are closed out.
Most likely a bad battery.

Does UMI-7774 need power source?
This may seem like an obvious question, but I need to ask it anyway:
I am using the PCI-7334 and UMI-7774 to control my E-DC drive and step motor. Does the UMI needs any power? For now, the UMI is plugged to the PCI-7334 and the step motor and power source are plugged to the E-DC drive which is plugged to the UMI.
Please help me!!
ThanksA regulated power supply will hold its rated voltage. An unregulated one will not. Stepper drives typically don't get along with regulated power supplies because at start up there is a larger current draw. The power supply may think this is a short-circuit and either foldback or trip. Regulated supplies are also more expensive.

I have a MacBook Pro laptop purchased in June 2011, and the superdrive no longer works. Rather than have it replaced, I'll buy a 3rd party superdrive that plugs into the USB port. Does the external superdrive need it's own power source, or will the USB port provide enough power?
The Apple external SuperDrive actually exceeds the allowed power draw. Because of this, it is only trouble-free on certain models that accommodate this excess.
All others require an external Power source. -
my 6 gen nano needs a power source to stay on and be able to use. battery won't charge at all. what can i do?
You need to contact Apple, to send in your ipod to get the battery replaced.

HT1766 Can icloud automatically back up when it is not plugged in to a power source?
Can icloud ever automatically back up without it being plugged in to a power source?
No.
From the Storage and Backup Screen:
"Automatically back up… when this iPhone is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi." -
My iPad is frozen with the message that the iPad is not backed up. I thought that it automatically backed up when I plugged the device into a power source. I have done that but the machine will not even open.
Try giving it a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds or so until it reboots and see if that helps.

Battery won't Charge, but shows "power source: power adapter"
Ever since beginning of Oct 2013 my newish (bought macbook pro retina display july 2013) decided it will no longer charge my battery, it will only provide power but nothing else. I tried using my old magsafe adapter with a magsafe 2 connector and manage to charge battery but that is also a battle to have it in right position and only after i plug in and out about 10 times. It is quite annoying, is this fixable or do i need to replace battery.
I have seen loads of other posts but not too many recent ones. Anyone having the same problem?

Only problem is i got my laptop in USA and I live in SA. No one really willing to help as they deem it out of warranty as not purchased here. I am going to take it in somehwere and try see if they can try with new magsafes. I have an inkling maybe might be problem with connector, but who knows. Failing that might have to suck it up and ship it back to states and miss it for couple weeks.
I did try do SMC reset, made other adapter work for like a day then nothing.
thanks again for help. -
The weird thing is, it'll still work: I can click & type stuff, change tabs, copy and paste tabs etc, but the browser will show nothing but blackness. It's not my computer, Firefox is the only program I encounter the problem with. And it only happens when I connect my HP laptop to its power source. Does anyone else encounter this problem, or know how to solve it?
Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
[[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
[[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you. -
No Battery; Power Source: Battery. SMC Reset didn't work.
Hey guys,
Ok, so I spilled a small amount of water on my macbook on Halloween. I didn't know what to as usually I am very careful and this has never happened before. The MB continued to act normally, so I cleaned it up and turned it upside down and tried to get all the water out. I also sprayed ino the vent with compressed air (later found out that was a stupid idea). Anyways, I turned it off then closed it up and went back to it about 5 hours later. There was condensation on the screen and it wasn't turning on except with the battery cable removed from the logic board and the magsafe plugged in. Even then, the keys weren't working. So I took the MB completely apart and replaced the keyboard after finding no water evidence or corrosion. Once reassembled, I plugged in the magsafe (which had a dim light) and tried turning it on by pressing the power button, just like regular. The battery indicator lights on the side of the computer also were not working. The fan turned on on high speed and the startup noise sounded, and the screen started to light up, but then it would almost instantly stop. It did this twice. I then started it into disk utility, which said there were no disk issues, so naturally I didn't repair anything. I then shut it back off and started it in safe verbose mode. It started up (fan still running high speed) and went completely to the regular desktop screen after letting me log in and everything. Everything on the startup screen was normal and nothin was wrong with the display as far as flickering or anything, except that the battery icon had an X in it and when clicked on, said "no battery available", and then "power source: battery." Since the fan was still running full speed though, I shut it down again and did the SMC reset, which fixed the issue with the fan and the Magsafe indicator light, but not the battery indicator lights or the battery icon issue(battery not being recognized?) When I option click on the battery icon also, it says the condition is normal, however it still says the whole no battery available/power source: battery. I'm curious to know if I should try perhaps resetting the SMC again since it helped the first time, or if I need to buy a replacement battery. The Mac Chat person also said that it might be the battery sensor on the logic board, which I'm extremely worried about because I cannot afford to replace the logic board. Is there any kind of test that I can do/run (besides trying to see if a new battery works) to see if the logic board is working properly? I'm not very well versed in computers, so it seems to me since everything else was working fine, the logic board might be ok? I suppose that specific sensor might be messed up and nothing else, but I would just think that other things might not be working also if it was a logic board issue. Also, does anyone know where this sensor might be located on the LB? Perhaps I can check it out? Thanks in advance everyone.I'm sorry, I think I left out that I took the computer apart after it wouldn't turn on the first time (about 5 hours post spill) and specifically when I put everything back together.
I took it apart about five hours post spill and cleaned it thoroughly and found no water except for a few small drops sitting on the optical drive. They were on the plastic housing of the optical drive (the side facing the bottom of the MB) and didn't not infiltrate the drive itself. There was absolutely no water elsewhere. There was evidence of liquid in the form of corrosion on the inside portion of the ir sensor near the hard drive, which was quickly cleaned with alcohol. There was no corrosion elsewhere. Again, each and every component (LB, OD, HD, battery, backlight & keyboard assembly, speakers, microphone, wireless card, etc) was dismantled about five hours post spill and cleaned/inspected for water damage and was left in the dismantled state in an aerated area until I received the replacement keyboard today and put it back together (which was today). So taken apart/cleaned on 10/31 and put back together on 11/15.
The closest Genius Bar to me is about four hours away and I cannot afford to send it in or drive there only to hear them give me an astronomical charge primarily just because they are the ones servicing it and I cannot afford a new LB if that is also the case, so I'm hoping that someone may know any answers based on the information provided that perhaps I didn't seat the battery correctly, or that I need to redo the SMC reset, or buy a new battery, or that there is some sort of test I can run through the computer that can show me how the LB is working. If there is such a test, then I can find out if I need to give up hope or not and stop trying all these other things or if it is reasonable to perhaps buy a battery or try the SMC reset again. I really don't want to go straight to it being the LB if hopefully that isn't the case.
If it makes any difference, I almost always kept the MB plugged in for the two years I have owned it and hardly ever let the battery die. I did not know about battery calibration prior to research for this matter and therefore never did it unless by accident (i.e., didn't have my charger with me and it died).
TIA everyone.
