I need a battery for very short term...

Hello. My Powerbook is about ready to be turned in for an upgrade. Of course, before I could back up all of my data for the transfer, my power cord tip broke off in the charger. As previous posts have stated this is a difficult problem. Since I'm looking to just back up my data then be done with the laptop, I really only need a battery for a very short time. Any recommendations for where to find one for such use? Or any other tips with how to get my information transferred? Currently I'm in the Silicon Valley for a few days but will be heading back to Chicago where I live. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Hi,
You could of course try to find someone with this computer model (or at least someone who has a suitable and working power adapter). An Apple User Group in your area?
Otherwise, it is possible to remove the internal hard drive. The drive can then be installed into an appropriate external (typically, USB 2.0) enclosure (there are also "caseless" USB 2.0 adapters for various hard drive types). Once this has been done, you could connect the now external drive to a newer Mac in order to perform file transfers.

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
Have you tried ALL the troubleshooting steps?  If you have and you're still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation and possible exchange.

  • How to run a VI for very short time, e.g. 100ms?

    Hi,
I need to run a VI for very short amounts of time, say 100ms, 200ms, 500ms or 1s. I want to get this time from the user, maybe as a control variable. How may I do this? I tried using the "elapsed time" function but seems like it was not meant for such small time periods. Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Kaiser

What are you trying to do in the "short time"? When you say "run a VI" do you mean "start, run and stop running", or do you mean for the vi to do something for the specified time, i.e. flash a front panel LED for a precise period after the operator clicks a button? In the later case 100mS is actually fairly long, and can be accomplished with various timing functions, with varying degrees of accuracy. The most accurate, in a Windows environment, would probably be the timed loop. If you need really accurate, particularly if you are interfacing with hardware (a pushbutton, an actual lamp, etc.) a real-time system would be the best bet.

Hi, I just buy a Satelite L35-S2151 (SN : 96074254W), it is my first Toshiba laptop. Everything great, except battery, it last a little short.
So I need to add another battery, my question is what's model numbers of battery can be use in L35-S2151, every number end with "1BRS"? Could you give me a list of models number?
    TIA

    Hi
The notebook seems to be designed for the US market. Did you buy it in the United States?
However, if you want to buy a battery for your notebook you should always use the compatible and supported one.
Im not 100% sure but I think the L30 series uses the same batteries.
On the Toshiba European page in the Options & accessories area I have found some batteries for a Sat L30 notebook.
    Battery Pack ( 6 Cell, 4300mAh PA3399U-1BRS
    Battery Pack (Li-Ion, 4000mAh, 6 Cell) PA3465U-1BRS
    Battery Pack (Li-Ion, 4300mAh, 8 Cell) PA3457U-1BRS
    Extended Capacity Battery Pack (Li-Ion, 6000mAh, 9 Cell) PA3478U-1BRS
    High Capacity Battery Pack (Li-Ion, 12 Cell, 8600mAh) PA3400U-1BRS
You have to pay attention on the mAh value. A higher mAh value means better battery power performance.
I think you can order such batteries from the Toshiba authorized service provider and additional you should ask for the battery compatibility.

  • How do we add an Adobe CC licensed contractor to our company CC team for a short-term project?

We need to add a contractor who already has an Adobe CC license to our company CC team so they can sync and share files for the duration of the project.
    How can we accomplish this?

    Hi ContentInTexas,
Files created by the Creative Cloud apps can be shared like any other file. For example, you can share files through email, FTP, and so on.
In addition, Creative Cloud sharing features let you share files with people who aren't members of Creative Cloud by allowing them to view the files in a browser. Viewers can turn layers on and off, view relevant metadata, comment, and even download files for editing.
Collaborative feature is something which is being worked upon and is expected to be available in the future release.

  • A short term fix for KEYNOTE. What do you think?????

I do not need to repeat the issues that this community is identifying. I am impressed by the astute observations and good ideas that are coming from this group. While 6.0 may be a decent program for the casual user, the problems caused for professional users is profound.
I am not sure whether Apple's audiences is us anymore---the presentation professionals, and the  uber-users. IF their market is not the amateur, then we may find the end of very good era, where there was a powerful tool for persuasion and storytelling. As a professional, I have moved organizations from PowerPoint to Keynote, but for the first time, are having them reconsider. While those working on a MAC can continue to use 5.3, those recently purchasing an iPad have no choice. That lack of choice is Apple's greatest insult, and I am recommend that those who agree with the text below send feedback to allow the iPad (like the MACs) keep both, and allow those with recent iPad purchases to download 5.3 (at least until the problems are remedied).
While I understand the need to make a product that works across a number of devices, the removal of 5.3 (on the iPad) has created problems with horrid financial and business consequences for many of us.
Some of the problems that I am encountering:
6.0 will not create a presentation that can be opened in 5.3, either on my computer or a client computer. (My large corporate clients are NOT going to upgrade for a while, so work I (or anyone else) would create for them on 6.0 cannot be used.. It would be suicide for me to insist that my client's IT department upgrade a product across their organization. I cannot also open anything created on the iPad, so Keynote as a creation tool on the iPad is useless.
6.0 removed features and corrupts the showing of 5.3 presentations---fonts are unavailable and corrupted, some moves are not supported, actual content displays are changed. Therefore programs look terrible if created on 5.3 and converted
6.0 automatically upgrades (without any warning) any 5.3 presentation opened if both 5.3 and 6.0 are on the MAC. If both 6.0 and 5.3 are loaded, clicking any file will open and convert it. The only option is to make sure that the file is opened via OPEN AS, but if the file is accidentally clicked, the file will be forever lost t 6.0.
There is not away to globally set 5.3 as the default option (it is supposed to work on the folder level but is broken).
Since many of us have 100s of active presentations on our computers, and since many with features are no longer supported by 6.0, it would be a mistake to upgrade to 6.0 while there still exists the problem of accidentally converting when clicking on a file.
I understand that these problems may be addressed, but it could weeks.
    A recommended easy fix....
We all recommend to the engineering department to let people put 5.3 back on the iPad, at least until the fixes can be made to 6.0.
Put a SAVE AS 5.3 function on 6.0, especially on the iPad
Fix the bug that does not allow CHANGE ALL to default the opening to 5.3
Talk to national leaders (there are a few hundred) in presentations, to create a program that as good or even better than 5.3.
Again, my suggestion for a short term fix would be reinstating the ability to use 5.3 until the fixes are addressed and full featires are restored. Give us, the user, the option of which one to use. If you agree, pehaps we can get some traction by sending this recommendation as feedback.
By the way, do you realize that KEYNOTE is not even listed in Apple's pulldown menu of products.....  our favorite product is considereed an "other."

Thank you Keith for your information.
In this case I am not worried about the origin of the idea and some compensation to the creator. If this modification will lead to happier costumers of Apple and more efficient use of material and thus better for the environment (as Apple claim they are always improving ) then I am satisfied.
It is good that Apple has this Policy and I agree that they can use any idea submission to them as their own. This Idea is so basic and easy to carry out that I believe that many others have thought of it.
Sometimes it can be good to get a pair of extra eyes or brain to spot were you can improve.
    thanks again for your info

  • How to display a short term lock in a view?

    Hello,
I discovered recently the two checkin/checkout modes in sharepoint.
The long term ckeckout that the user choose explicitly to have and the short term check out when the user open an office document for modification.
This article describe the differences between the two modes: http://blogs.technet.com/harikumh/archive/2008/05/28/check-out-feature-of-sharepoint-2007.aspx
The short term checkout is perfect for my client needs. He doesn't want to checkout a document every time he opens it + a lot of user doesn't understand why to check-in a document when they have done their works.
Here is my problem: I would like to display the short term lock in my document library the same way the long term lock information is displayed.
By code I'm able to see who has acquired the lock and if it is a short term or long term lock:
    SPFile.SPCheckOutStatus
The column "CheckedOutBy" in by document library does not display anything for the short term lock. The document icon is not change to display a lock on it.
So I'm searching for an idea, how to be able to display this information in my view?
    Best Regards,
    Py

    Hi,
Theoretically you can do the following:
Create a custom web service based on the object model to get the value of vti_sourcecontrollockexpires metadata of a file remotely.
Create a custom field that display the information in edit and display view based on the of vti_sourcecontrollockexpires metadata using the object model in a label. Create a RenderPattern for the list view that contains a JavaScript block that calls your custom web service to display the short lock information.
I suggest you to read these basic articles that describe the process of custom field type creation:

  • Need webcam advice for older Powerbook

    Hello!
I've had my G4 aluminum Powerbook for about 5 or 6 years, and it is a wonderful machine. I recently upgraded to Tiger. I connect to the Internet wirelessly through Airport and a router connected to my husband's desktop G4.
I am having a bit of trouble figuring out how to accomplish one thing: I'd like to set up a webcam at home on my machine to watch my dogs while I'm at work (on a PC). I understand the iSight is no longer available, and Apple tells me it has a lovely Logitech Quickcam Ultra Vision that will allow me to chat with video. But I don't think chat will work work: I want a streaming video to come from my webcam that I can access through the Internet at work.
First, is this possible, given my set-up. And second, would the Logitech work and with what software?
Many thanks for your wise advice.

Here are two fantastic resources for you.
    1) Macam, which has a list of ALL compatible webcams with Mac OS X, via USB
    [http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/cameras/index.php]
    2) iChatUSB, which is a software/plug-in that also lets you use certain webcams

    There's also this one:

The best one I've tried out so far, but returned because I didn't really need it after all (it was for a short-term project at work, and then after the project was shelved, I returned the webcam to the, er, shelves. Ha ha) is the Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Pro.
It has built-in support and you don't need third party extensions. The clarity is great! Crystal clear images, both video and stills. It has a Carl Zeiss lens, if I remember correctly. And it works right out of the box.
Just be careful to get the right model number. There is a note of this on those first two sites above. A note about an earlier version (part no.) but same box could mean the difference between it working and not working. Something about UVC compliance.
