I need a copy of windows 8 for my GT70

My GT70 is stuck in a endless blackscreen loop when i boot up. it starts up "auto repair" then just goes to a black screen with a pointer. I have try ed to use a USB recovery via another windows 8 PC. When i boot off the USB it gives me a set of menus but none really do anything to help me... the recover keeps saying my hard drive is locked and i do not know how to unlock it. please help i will reformat this thing if i have too but i do not have a copy of windows 8 just laying around. i am deployed in Kuwait at the time so trying to RMA would be a major time lag.

It is never a bad idea to have a copy of a receipt tucked away just in-case you ever need to seek service. Need help with installing Windows for the bar exam

I need to retake the bar exam in Feb 2011 and I've decided to switch to typing. I am trying to figure out what Windows I need (the software says XP is fine but is that even available anymore)- so can someone walk me through this process? I've partioned my hard drive with the default 5GB but should it be more?
I'm looking at buying Windows- is XP okay or should I shell out for 7-i.e. is one more compatible with Macs?
And then finally, in the installation instructions they mention that I need my Mac OS disc for the process- is that the snow leopard disc or something else? My discs are in storage right now so should I wait until I get them before starting this process or can I get replacements if I accidentally threw them out in moving?
Sorry for all the questions, but well, I'm racing to get everything done and I want to make sure I don't crash my system halfway through the exam!

You don't need Boot Camp, but even XP will have a lot of stuff to update from after the install, and that takes temp space. Just as your Mac shows 5-10GB there is add'l hidden space used.
Apple's 'requirements' has gotten others in trouble and I was pretty sure it was more like 10GB. Plus a lot of XP discs are now SP3.
XP out of the box but connected to the net is just waiting for malware, average is 15 minutes to be infected. 7 is better and just in case you need it again.
System Builder can come in 32 or 64-bit but XP is 32-bit only.
VirtualBox by Oracle is a free VM.
1GB for one program actually seems like a lot, or is that RAM requirement?

I note you are running OS10.6. Is that correct? If so, you don't have a PowerMac--must be an newer Intel Mac of some sort.

Why do I need PAP enabled on Windows for an ASA5510 to use Radius?

We have an ASA that allows remote VPN users. It connects to a Windows 2008 server. That server connects to a radius server, also Windows 2008. Things work fine if we enable PAP on the radius server, and the remote site server. If we disable PAP on either one, we lose the ability to authenticate.
I would prefer to not use PAP.

The ASA supports the following authentication methods with RADIUS:
•PAP—For all connection types.
•CHAP and MS-CHAPv1—For L2TP-over-IPsec connections.
•MS-CHAPv2—For L2TP-over-IPsec connections, and for regular IPsec remote access connections when the password management feature is enabled. You can also use MS-CHAPv2 with clientless connections.
•Authentication Proxy modes—Including RADIUS to Active Directory, RADIUS to RSA/SDI, RADIUS to Token-server, and RSA/SDI to RADIUS connections,
so the default is PAP, but you can enable MS-CHAPv2 by configuring "password management" under tunnel-group.

I guess when I bought this a couple of months ago I didn't think I needed a CD burner. Now I have a file with 88 senior pics I need to deliver and no cd to burn them to.

Get an external usb optical drive. Any will work. Or, use a usb flash/thumb drive. Or, email the files to the client. Or, upload the files to an online storage area such as iCloud, GoogleDrive, SkyDrive, or similar online storage. There are many.

About to move from Windows to Mac. Considering purchasing retina display MBP 15" with dual boot system as I need some of my programs. How is the display in windows for photoshop?

Has anyone got any thoughts or have you yourself purchased the MBP with Retina display and added the dual boot system with windows?
I desperately need to update my gear and want a MBP.
I'm a full time photographer at my local paper and freelance photographer - use computers A LOT, and only use windows. I've experienced mac and know I prefer it, the way it runs pleases me a whole lot more and for the amount i'm processing/working I need something that will keep up.
With 12 years of photoshop gear loaded up for all my photo processing etc, I'm wanting to add Windows and have use of both. Windows would run photoshop that I had already purchased some time ago - question is, how will it run? what will the display be like running Windows on Mac with the retina display?
I use CS4 at the moment and can't afford to upgrade to CS6 just yet, plus i'd waste a lot of what I already have by starting again on Mac. I'd use Mac for everything else, need the use of Windows for portions of what I do.
About to head to Canada and want to get set up for the road. Any help is much appreciated.

There are some drawbacks, running Windows 7 (only) on a Mac via Bootcamp yields less than stellar results, especially with the Retina display.
And of your traveling, the Mac's high power needs (especially the Retina display) and lack of removable battery are going to be a serious issue. The Retina display is glossy, not ideal for viewing on the road and in varied environments.
CS4 won't run on the OS X version that comes with a Mac, so your looking at purchasing CS6.
Support for Windows is more widespread than for Mac's, also if you ever need to redownload OS X to fix a issue, requires a fast reliable Internet connection of the broadband kind.
If your running Windows on your Mac, you can expect to be on your own and not get support as easily as if you were running it on a regular PC.
If you can't afford to keep up with CS upgrades, then you shouldn't be considering a Mac because there are more paid upgrades on that than on Windows 7, it's like a annual nightmare.
IMMO your still better off on a decent, 1920 x 1080 res, matte screen, removable battery (with extras), Win 7 Pro i7 machine (Pro+ runs XP programs) which will stay like it is and get security updates until 2020.
OS X changes every year and if you don't upgrade, + all your third party software, then about 3 years later your left behind for updates.
Also you will have to buy Win 7 to run on your Mac, the OEM disks won't work.
If your trying to budget, then a Mac is certainly not for you.

I do not agree as customer support is good, its good... but idiot thing is we buyed the laptop from Toshiba, which is money minded,...if toshiba knows that after customer system drive is corrupted /erased accidently then no chance of getting the paid version of OS restoring...
1. then why dont toshiba provided already a recovery CD before only..
or
2. they should have informed as pre-condition/pre-caution that if Hard Drive got erased then Toshiba cannot provide the product ID also which a customer is paying.
i think toshiba should should value the customers money also & should keep inform the customers unwanted loss with pruchasing toshiba... as I would have atleast prepared the Backup-restor CD if i was warned after purchasing....atleast..

360PE / 730T pen drivers - Windows for Pen Computing 1.0 ?

I've got a pair of old 360PE's and a 730T that I am trying to get running with their original operating systems. We've been able to get most things working running Windows 3.1 but don't have a copy of Windows for Pen Computing 1.0 to install. Does anyone know of a source or have a set of Windows for Pen Computing 1.0 floppies that they would be interested to sell or share. Also I am wondering if there is a Wacom driver for Win 3.1 that I could install which would let the stylus act as a mouse within applications.

I recently had a similar problem after upgrading from Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate. The pen only worked on some screens and not others, the finger touch didn't work at all and the calibration was stuck.
I upgraded all the drivers listed at the HP site but this didn't solve the problem.
My solution was to go into the device manager and to upgrade the individual drivers under 'Human Interface Devices' for wacom and to upgrade each one individually to the latest version. The new drivers have installed 'Wacom USB Pen' and 'Wacom USB Touch'. There is a now new calibration facility and the pen and touchscreen works fine :-)

Just to clarify - in terms of backing up one set of these, would that just be so I had it on disk and didn't need to re-download from Adobe if the installation got corrupted somehow? Or do I need a backup for some other reason?
