I need a dockable skin that fits into portable speaker unit (MM50)

Hi folks,
Ive currently got a ZSkin for my 30G iPod video. Its great but it doesnt properly fit into the iPod dock. I have kind of butchered the dock so it fits. Also the skinned iPod will not fit into my new Logitech Portable Speaker unit! You know the iPod should slide between the speakers and dock, it wont with the skin on.
I dont want to risk scratching the unit by constantly removing the skin so can anyone recommend a thin skin for it?
I have heard the iSkin Evo3 fits into the dock so will it fit my Logitech?
Can you recommend a skin?
How do you protect your iPod and still dock it ect?
Tc

GelaSkins, a Toronto based iPod skin company makes ultra-low profile, artist designed skins that will fit with virtually any accessory. You can protect your iPod from scratches without adding the bulk of other cases. No problem to use them with the iTrip or Dock connector, or even under a bulkier case if you are going to subject the iPod to serious abuse. Every skin comes with a great screen protector too. Crystal clear and bubble-free.
I am an employee of GelaSkins, and I am obligated to share this with you as discussed in the Appple Discussions agreement. However, by looking up GelaSkins in any search engine you will find several independent review sites that can confirm my post.
Hope you find the iPod protection you're looking for...

My daughter is going on an exchange to France for a year.  I saw that there is a SIMS prepaid phone card that fits into an iPhone 4S.  Is this the best way to go and if so,  Do I suspend her service with our carrier?

Is your daughter's phone officially unlocked? If not, you won't be able to use any sim other than a sim from the carrier your daughter's phone is locked to. To do what you want, you need to get your daughter's phone officially unlocked. Once done, she can then purchase a local sim when she gets to France.

This one is AWESOME!!!
I know its a little pricey, but beleive me, its worth it, especially to protect your mac. unless you see it in person you wont be able to tell but it is heavily padded on all sides, it very roomy(i have fit my laptop, textbook, graphing calc and assorted pieces of gear along with mouse and charging cable all at once!) and on the bottom it has foam feet so that it you drop it it distributes the weigt through the feet and not the laptop. It is pretty comfortable to wear and very durable. I highly recommend it. good product. If your a neat freak(no offence to anybody) there are lots of pockets to divide your stuff into.

• Need help with document that turned into alias for Application

I'm trying to help my dad with a problem, not sure exactly what he did, but he had a page document in a documents folder on his desktop.  He moved it into a *files folder* on his desktop.  Somehow the document seems to have been turned into an alias for for his application folder. When I click on the file name, the document doesn't open, it opens up the Application folder.
I'm VERY new to Mac.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

• Bought a 65" Samsumng and Xbox --- What do I need for a receiver to hook into the speaker system ?

I have the Geek squad coming in to install in a week andwant to have them hook the built in speakers in the room .  What type of receiver is needed to work with HDTV, Cable, and the XBOX one ?
Any experience on this ?   The speakers currently have wired connections to a stereo system.

Any home theater system and or receiver that has HDMI will be sufficient.
However, I would strongly suggest going into your store and asking a sales rep directly.
You don't even need a receiver that has HDMI for that matter.
If your not going for surround sound but just 2 external speakers you don't need much.
You can have them hook up an AV receiver so that you use the receivers remote to switch between inputs.  i.e. Xbox, Cable Box etc.
I have my sytem set up so all audio and video feeds into the TV iteself.  then the audio out is the only input into the receiver.  I then leave my receiver on the same input and just change the input on the TV.  i.e. Xbox is input 4, BlueRay is input 5, TIVO is input 6 and external HDMI to my computer is input 1
Either way works fine, I simply prefer to have all inputs going to the TV.
If your just going to a 2 speaker setup you will want to look at 2.0 channel receivers.  Either of these should work fine.

I am going to japan with an Ipod nano and Iphone 4. Do I need a converter? or does the one the iphone comes with that plugs into the wall enough? I know i wont need an adapter because it will fit into the wall outlet, but voltage wise, will i need a converter? Japan runs on 100 V. I am so confused on all of this...

As long as the adapter is 2 pronged, then you should be able to use it without any problems.

• Querying cache with data that is large enough to fit into available memory

Query on a cache would be applicable on the data that can fit into the cache storage as per the link http://coherence.oracle.com/display/COH35UG/Query+the+Cache. However there is also a mention about restricting the cache content along a specific dimension, so that the query actually knows what to expect from the cache.
Generally any enterprise application would generate huge amount of data and practically it would be difficult to set the fix up the limit to a specific dimension. Fixing the limit is to decide on what else has to be taken from the persistent store.
Please let me know if there are best practices defined in this regard?

Hi,
Thanks for the clarification.
Okay. So in a nutshell it sounds like you have data spanning a memory cache and living in a database and
you want to be able to query the entire dataset, so you need someway to figure out what
is in the cache and what is in the database?
In general queries in Coherence only work against the cached data, and because of the LRU characteristics
of memory caches its going to be really difficult to know at a point in time what set of information is living
in memory and which has been evicted and persisted in the underlying database. If the dataset that spills
over into a database is fringe (i.e. a small percentage of your total data), then the simplest solution is to
add new cache servers to get you out of this problem (i.e. avoid databases). If the cache is just the tip
of the iceberg of all your data than you probably want to have either a write-through or write-behind
configuration and query the database directly (write-through will get you everything you put into a cache,
while write-behind will get everything except for the most recent puts which are working their way to being written in batch).
My guess is that retrieval of keys out of the database, and then retrieval of data through the cache using
the keys would not be a good idea. For one thing if the database is substantially larger than the cache,
the entire cache will get evicted by the query activity, which generally is a bad idea. More importantly the
code path to get the data will be much longer and would result in N number of invocations of SQL as opposed
to a single invocation of SQL with a cursor.

• Please can someone help, I have a question in my coursework that I don't know the answer to! Explain how PostScript fits into the design process?

Please can someone help, I have a question in my coursework that I don't know the answer to! Explain how PostScript fits into the design process?

The simple answer is that today PostScript really doesn't fit at all into the Graphic Design process, at least in terms of what the graphic designer needs to know.
Historically, though, the PostScript imaging model, first introduced circa 1984 provided the basis for the initial publishing software including PageMaker, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, and even Ventura Publisher. This imaging model included support for continuously scalable text, vector, and raster imagery as well as the concepts of a current transformation matrix that allowed arbitrary scaling, rotation, etc. and multiple color spaces (grayscale, RGB, CMYK, spot, device independent, and color-managed).
The PostScript imaging model was effectively replaced by the PDF imaging model, a significant superset of the PostScript imaging model, by the time Illustrator 9 and InDesign 2 were released in terms of support of ICC color management, transparency, etc.
The fact is that a good graphic designed doesn't need to know anything about PostScript or PDF per sé, but rather about the basics of color (such as issues associated with color gamut and what how that affects display and printing), use of text versus vector versus raster images and why one should keep content at the highest level of abstraction all the way to the rendering (or screen) or RIP process for printing. Some knowledge of typography also helps.

If I changed my Apple ID password on my iphone then log into itunes on my phone with that new password, would it automatically sync to my laptop or would i need to put the new password into my laptop also? My laptop got stolen so I changed my password and wanted to be sure it's safe to enter in the new one on my phone. I don't want it to snyc to my laptop.

Hi loro,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I'm sorry to hear that your laptop was stolen. Changing your password was a good step.
Entering your new password on your iPhone will not affect the laptop, as mentioned in this article:
Apple ID: Changing your password
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5624
The next time you use an Apple feature or service that uses Apple ID, you'll be asked to sign in with your new Apple ID password.
Best Regards,

• What's the best way to detect that text fits into ContainerControllers without scrolling?

Hi.
Question
What's the best way to detect that text typed by user (or added programmatically) exceeds available container space and find out where starts truncated part? Is there available some other (than described bellow) easy way to detect it or disallow set of controllers to receive more characters that can be displayed in given composition area?
My partialy failed attempt (simplified)
For example lets say that I've got an editable textflow with attached two instances of ContainerController.
var flow:TextFlow = createSomeFlowFromGivenString(sampleText),
        firstController = new ContainerController(firstSprite, 100, 30),
        lastController = new ContainerController(secondSprite, 600, 30);
flow.interactionManager = new EditManager(new UndoManager());
flow.flowComposer.addController(firstController);
flow.flowComposer.addController(lastController);
flow.flowComposer.updateAllControllers();
With enabled vertical scroll policy I can compare height of the composition in last controller with height of the content:
var bounds:Rectangle = lastController.getContentBounds(),
        overflow:Boolean =  lastController.compositionHeight < bounds.height;
trace('Content does not fit into given area?', overflow)
But when I switch vertical scroll policy off (lastController.verticalScrollPolicy = ScrollPolicy.OFF) - unfortunately this no longer works...(In my case scrolling should be dissabled, since text areas might have only one line with restricted width)
Use case
I want to create fillable form. Field might have a single or multiple lines. One field might start in the middle of the page, continue in the next line where it spreads through whole page and end in the - quarter of page width long  - third line. Text typed by the user can't exceed given area since it might cover some static text that sits right after/below field.
Something like ascii image bellow:
                <PAGE>

|               [Field starts here........ |
........................................
........................................
Ends here..]

[Another field] xxxx  xxxx xxxxxxxx x xx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

                              [One more..
.....]

Info:
[......]  <-- form fields starts with '[' character, and ends with ']'
xxx       <-- sample, static text
| and _   <-- page borders

I've tried something like that previously, but it didn't work because then I've got vertical scroll policy to set to 'auto'. After changing verticalScrollPolicy to ScrollPolicy.OFF  in the last container it worked like a charm.
Thanks zhen bian

• I need to turn an indesign document into an editable pdf. how do I do that?

I need to turn an indesign document into an editable pdf, how do I do that?

InCopy is a solution, but it's not the only viable solution.
I update many books, from 200 pages to 3,200 pages every year, long document, very techincal tax books.
Some are done through InCopy, some are edited word files and rtfs exported from InDesign, some are marked up hard copies etc.
It totally depends on the clients technical ability with computers. Last year I taught over 30 authors of ours how to use InCopy. Some were receptive, some were dubious, some were totally clueless.
And on the dubious and totally clueless I spent more time troubleshooting their problems than I would normally with a Word/RTF option.
Some people are capable of switching to InCopy or even know how to use it in the first place. For anyone never used InDesign or InCopy before then it's a massive learning curve to jump from MS Word et al word processors, to InCopy.
I do agree, it is the best solution that's out there, technically. But that solution is not usable by a lot of people.
Yeh if the client is comfortable with InCopy then it's the way forward.
But in most cases, in my experience, it's faster and more efficient to Export the text as RTF and let the author update the RTF. That leaves you in control of reinserting the text and formatting it correctly. Rather than letting the client add bold, underline, italics, superscript, subscripts, crazy workarounds because they didn't know how to do it properly. And in the end you end up with 2 or 3 times the amount of work than is necessary, just cleaning up what the client has done in InCopy that does not suit the overall formatting of the publications.
