I need a file COUNT when I "Get Info"

In OS9 when you selected a folder that had subfolders inside of it and then [image] files inside of the subfolders and chose "Get Info" from the menu, it would calculate how many files were inside the enclosing folder including the files inside of the subfolders. Is there a way to do this with OSX?

I think the handiest way is to use the CalculateSize Contextual Menu item:

Control click on a folder and select it, it tells you the total size of the folder, the number of files (including invisibles), and the number of sub-folders. It is PowerPC only however.
You can make Automator action(s) to something similar, but the ones I've built are way slower and not nearly as informative.

You're going to have to give a bit more information.
What do you mean by "opening a file in library?" There is no function of Aperture to open files -- you can open (switch) libraries.
You'll have to be more specific about error messages, too. Perhaps some screenshots would be useful to diagnose your problem. "Can't open database with library name" is not enough detail about what Aperture is really telling you.

I know where the audio files are located (using GET INFO while in iTunes), and when I try to add certain audio files, some are accepted and some are not. In one case, when I opened a particular folder, the song was not listed, even tho' the song is there when using Windows Explorer. This happens with mp3 and mp4 and just wav files. Some audio are accepted, most are not. I get that codec is not installed error message, too.

File locked even though file is unchecked in Get Info

Copied a .psd and .doc file from Mac SL Server share to ~/Public/Drop Box.
I can edit the .doc without issue and save it as is.
When I open the .psd in for example Photoshop CS4 to edit it and try to save any changes, it says that the file is locked. I checked the Get Info information and the file is not locked (unchecked). On the server, the .psd is not locked as well.
Any ideas?
The permissions on both the doc and psd when copied into the drop box are:
User (Me) - Custom
User (Me) - Read Only
staff - No Access
everyone - No Access
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That "Read Only" setting could explain the "locked" report. Have you tried changing that? Have you tried working with that file in another folder?

File size in finder ' get info' does not refresh

I'm moving files about and need to check how large the folders are (in preparation for burning a dvd). 'Get info' is not refreshing the file size (and it's not just enormous folders). I have installed 'Refresh Finder' but it doesn't make any difference. The only way I can see the true file size is by restarting (a pain). What else can I try?

Yes, Finder can be a bit slow to update. It shouldn't be necessary to restart, though; using the force quit dialogue to relaunch Finder should suffice.
Press cmd-opt-esc (⌘⌥ esc) to bring up the dialogue, select Finder and click relaunch.

Why doesnt Bit Rate show when you Get Info

When you downgrade the bit rate of a song in itunes for example, from 320kbps to 128kbps then click get info it will show the bit rate, but if you use your Finder locate the song file and click get info it will be missing

You cannot show bit rate using finder. This value is not included in the get info box - only sample rate is shown. You should use iTunes to find the bit rate of the track which you can see in song view if you have added this from view > view options.
If you want to see in finder, I suggest that you provide feedback to Apple.

Able to page through powerpoint presentation when in "Get Info"

Hello all
In order to open a ppt, I have been launching my windows OS.
I notice though that on my desktop icon I can see the cover page of the powerpoint presentation and if I click on "Get Info" I can even page through the entire ppt using the Preview pane.
Just curious what my mac is using to give me a preview of this powerpoint presentation?

Oh whoops. You said powerpoint. So I should have said Keynote, not Numbers. Regardless, they're both a part of the iWork suite.
Yes, you can edit powerpoint presentations from Keynote, but it has its own transitions/themes/etc., so if you're planning on handing that powerpoint file back to someone who's going to open it in Microsoft's Powerpoint, you end up being unable to retain some of the formatting/transition decisions you've made.
Obviously if you're going to use it to just make a presentation then it's awesome. I've given presentations with Keynote (recently, actually) in front of a class and had them say "What was that? It looked awesome!" Then I tell them it's Mac only and they get sad.
So, short answer, yes, long answer, it depends on what you're doing.

ITunes freezing when clicking "Get Info"

My iTunes keeps freezing when I click on "Get Info", and it takes several minutes to open. Sometimes, it won't open at all, and I have to end the task in Task Manager.
I have Win7 and almost 200gb free. I noticed this about three weeks ago and have already upgraded to the latest version. Any ideas?
