I need a full page bleed for an image!
I've tried just about everything to figure this one out, but I'm starting to suspect the feature is just not available. I'm working on a book and will self publish it, so I need to put the illustrations into the body of the work. Which isn't hard to do, but I need the image to bleed into the margins, basically span the entire page. The only way I can seem to do this is to eliminate the margins entirely, but of course I need the margins for the text. So, is there a way to eliminate the margins just for the image?
While I'm here I might as well address the other issue I'm having: I need to save an image at 300 DPI but I constantly have problems getting the size right if I do so. I know the max pixels is 2000, but for printing specs I need the cover image for the book to be 6.25x9.25, which comes out to 1875 x 2775 pixels at 300 DPI. Perhaps Appleworks is not the program to do this in, but unfortunately my old iMac has no room for larger programs. Hmm.....Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Hi Paul,
On a typewriter, you'd call then the Margin stops.
If you want to eliminate the headers on pages with pictures, try this addition to Yvan's suggestions:
For the first page where you want a picture, put a section break at the end of the previous page, then go Format > Section...
Set the section to begin on a New Page, and Click the checkbox for Title Page. Click OK.
After inserting the picture, don't use a Section break to move to the next page. Press enter to insert a Column break or shift-enter to insert a Page break (both have the same effect in a single column document).
For each new picture, insert a section break at the end of the page before. The new section will start on a new page, and the headers and footers will be suppressed on this 'Title' page.
Regards,
Barry

I have my printer (Epson 300) set for full page printing and it will print that way in CS5. In LR3 I cannot get it to print full page. The bleed space at the bottom of the page is 1/2" and I cannot (in custom moode) move a cell into that bottom 1/2". How can I change this to be able to use that space?
Thanks much for your help,
AlMaybe you have already done this. But in the Print module you need to set all of the margin sliders to 0. Then you need to go into Page Setup (button in the left-hand panel) and choose the appropriate printer settings. Also, in the right-hand panel under Image Settings, be sure to check the option, "Zoom to Fill".

Do I need to buy Pages again for my new ipad 2?
I have Pages on my Macbook Pro. Do I need to buy it again for my new ipad 2? I can't seem to find a way of accessing it from the ipad.
Yes, you will need to buy the app version from the app store if you want to use it on the iPad - the version on your Mac (OS X) is not compatible with the iPad (iOS), they are different operating systems

Need a good iOS app for measuring image size and app to set printer PPI.
I'm looking for a photo app for IOS that will give me an accurate representation of the PPI size of my images from my iPhone 6plus as well as my point and shoot camera and also let me set the dpi on my photo printer. Printing photos from the native IOS camera roll is a gamble at best. Nearly impossible to print an 8 x10 with white borders for framing.
The aspect ratio of the iPhone camera image is 3:4 (3 units high x 4 units wide when held horizontally). Notice I did not say pixels or dots per inch but units which can represent any kind of measurement. The aspect ratio of a 8x10 print is 4 units x 5 units so no matter how you slice it you cannot fit a un-cropped full frame iPhone photo onto a 8x10 print without white boarder on two sides while the other two sides are printed to the edge. You can but the image would be distorted. Simply put PPI doesn't translate well to DPI. This isn't the place for photo class so I'll leave at that. Before you go out and buy editing software for resizing images for print you should study PPI vs. DPI and resizing digital images for print. Knowing those differences will help you make the best software choice.

Correct Size for Full Page Bleed
I'm using 8.5x11 custom Photoshop images for my entire hardcover book. What is the ideal size to use? Should I add some cropping area to each edge to get a correct bleed? (i.e 8.7 x 11.2, etc)
Thanks! If you are using standard 3:4 ratio digital photos they bleed just find for me - I have a number in my book and they are all perfect
Just make sure you have adequate resolution - 1530 x 1980 or larger

I know we can do this by @section when we have multiple header_id, but in my case, i have the same data that need to be shown in 3 different layouts under the same template.
So for the first layout it should start with 1 of 2, 2 of 2
Second layout should start with 1 of 2 , 2 of 2
Third layout should start with 1 of 2 , 2 of 2
Any help is highly appreciated.

Need help with page sizes for EBay
Sorry as this is a beginners question but how do i set a layout so i can produce a product page that fits 4:3 and 16:9 at the same time when viewing on EBay with diffarent moniters. My friend has managed it but he does not know how he did it. Is there any material i could read to help me start with a shallower learning curve using Dreamweaver CS3. Many thanks
EBay is a whole different animal with some very strange code & other challenges. I recommend using their pre-built TEMPLATES. Download TurboLister2 software for setting up auctions. Templates are in the left hand column.

HELP need urgently! Pages not loading ANY images in my document.
Hi all,
I am writing my thesis for my degree, and my document is quite large. I have ~40 images of various sizes, up to 300kB. Everything was fine last night, and I saved the pages document three times on three different storage devices because I'm paranoid about losing this work.
I closed Pages last night after saving, and today when the document is opened, every single image has been replaced with a grey square containing a question mark.
What I can't understand is that when I quick-look the document in finder, it still contains all the images just as it was last night.
Help with this would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
GrahamIt doesn't say "include", that is the previous check box. It is just Save as.
Saving to Word (really this export) is not perfect in Pages particularly if you have used any uniquely Pages features.
Since I can't see what you have done, which is probably something you have not described, it really would be faster just to see the docuument. Currently I am suspecting it maybe inline graphics.

you can override the SelectListener to point to a managed bean method that uses a JSF MethodExpression to preserve the default configured functionality. You then issue a redirect

ExternalContext ectx = fctx.getExternalContext();
String viewId = "... add viewId...." //WebCenter ViewId to redirect to

controllerCtx = ControllerContext.getInstance();
String activityURL = controllerCtx.getGlobalViewActivityURL(viewId);

Need Help Please - PSD InDesign (for print)?
Hello Everyone,
I'm a graphic designer for a company that has decided to run some print ads in a magazine. At the time, I only had Photoshop to create their advertisement with. Now they have purchased CS4, which will make my life easier in the future, however, for now I have the problem of creating my advertisement made with Photoshop and creating a print ready PDF.
Here is my problem:
- I created a PSD at 8.5" x 11" at 300ppi
- I did not take in to account for the 0.125" bleeds and 1/8" trim
- It needs to be SWOP compliant (I figured out I can export a PDF that adheres to SWOP)
- Fonts should be Type 1 Postscript, no TTF (I'm using Helvetica and Arial, when I export the PDF, it says the embedded fonts are TTF)
- I'm totally lost with regards for designing work for print!
Here the specs they gave me, AFTER I created the design in Photoshop
====
Full page, full bleed 8.0" 10-3/4" (**I created my PSD as a 8.5" x 11" - without regard to bleeds**)
Include 1/8 bleed over all to ensure full page bleed
and keep live copy 1/4 from trim and crop marks.
CMYK, 4-color process printing only.
Do not add bleed to partial page ads.
All requirements are based on Specifications for Web Offset
Publications (SWOP). Any deviation from these specifications may
result in less-desirable printed results.
We support PDF files generated by Adobe Acrobat using
the X-1A Job Option Settings for Distiller. In order for
prepress to generate printable PDF s, it is important that
the native file is prepared accordingly.
Preparing native files for printable PDF s:
All images/scans must be in CMYK mode,
300 dpi resolution
Use Postscript (Type 1) fonts only. No True
Type, Windows/PC or custom fonts accepted
Embed all fonts
Do not nest EPS files in other EPS files
Four-color solids should not exceed SWOP
density of 280%
Provide two digital color proofs at 100% size, created
from the supplied digital file, on a contract-quality,
digital halftone proofing system in accordance with
SWOP web coated standards (AGFAPressmatch,
Kodak Approval, DuPont Waterproof, etc.). Laser or
inkjet proofs are not considered accurate in color and
are supplied for content confirmation only.
If supplied, the publisher is not responsible for color variances
between the digital file and final color reproduction.
NOTE: If proofs are not supplied, make-goods due to
reproduction quality will not be honored.

I've never done print work before, as I'm mainly a graphic designer for the web.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated! Unfortunately for me, they bought the advertisement space with the magazine for the running of the next issue before speaking with me. So I'm under extreme pressure to get this underway. I'll be most grateful for any help or guidance, Thanks guys!
- DYou can Place a PSD in Indesign, but unless the bleed is a single color,
it's going to be easier to add bleed in Photoshop. Bleed is whatever
gets cut off when they trim the paper. Trim is close, but not exact, so
whatever picture or color goes to the edge of the paper must extend
beyond the edge to avoid trim including some white when the trim is not
quite perfect. If it's a picture that goes to the edge, you need to
figure out a way to extend the picture beyond the edge. If it's white
that goes to the edge, then you don't need bleed. If it's a non-tone
color field (a single color) then you could Place the PSD in Indesign
and add bleed color behind it and extending beyond the edge of the page.
The magazine should not concern themselves with TT or T1 fonts, either
one should work. That said, Helvetica and Arial are very close. If your
Helvetica is Type 1, just use Helvetica for the whole thing. If you
embed it in the PDF, it should show there as a Type 1 subset.

Hi Everyone,
Another newbie question. I've created several full page slideshows for our touch-doc. We put the chevrons in in Photoshop and they slide quite well. The problem I'm facing is that when I test it on the IPad, I can't move beyond the slideshow down the rest of the folio. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or knows of a solution?
I've tried the various different settings, but it doesn't seem to be working for me.
Any advice?
Thanks
Ann
P.S. Should also say this is a MSO slideshow, in both vertical and horizontal. Can slide horizontally perfectly fine, but when I want to move beyond the full page slideshow, I can't do it. It's like it's frozen or something.Hi Bob,
Sorry, but I'm not sure how I do that... For some reason I'm having a very difficult time understanding MSOs :-/
Have read your ABCs article on your blog, but when I select my slideshow, I can't seem to get the convert to buttons tab to come available. Is there a step-by-step of instructions written somewhere to do what you suggest above? As you can see, I'm not very confident with InDesign quite yet :-/
Many thanks!

Do i need to buy an app for each device or one purchase.
Do I need to buy pages app for every device or will one purchase do all my devices.
One purchase for Macs and another for iOS devices. Note that if you're using a computer with Mac OS X 10.5.2, you'll need to either upgrade its OS or install the DVD version of iWork, which is separate from the Mac App Store version.

Can i download java for my ipad, the problem is i open glovis.usgs from my ipad, but i can't see the full page, cause the page need a java...help me please
Nope. The iPad (and iPhone and iPod touch) cannot execute Java applets. It's a limitation in iOS from the beginning (just like lack of Flash). You will either need to use a desktop computer or access a desktop computer via RDP or VNC to access that page on iPad.mIn short: there is no native way to use a Java applet on iOS.

Indesign: full page with bleed?!
Hi all, if i'm given an specific ad size of only:
- Full Page with bleed - 8 x 10.5 (inches)
- Non bleed size - 7.25 x 9.8 (inches)
Does it mean:
- page size: 8 x 10.5 (inches)
- bleed & slug: 0
- Margin: 0.375 (inches) for all sides
i'm puzzled if there is a need for trim area if there isn't any measurement provided..
Hope someone could help me out please?!(Wow, I said "marginally more likely" -- no pun was intended, but I think it's pretty funny!!)
Manish (do you work for Adobe?) wrote:
In the Post there are 2 size :
Full Page with bleed - 8 x 10.5 (inches)
- Non bleed size - 7.25 x 9.8 (inches)
The second is without bleed and the first one with it hence we can know the bleed size from it. Can't we.
So, the whole point of a bleed is to define three regions: 1) the interor space, bounded by the margin, where you're guaranteed to not come near to the trim, 2) the bleed area, which is a danger zone; once a page object touches this area, it is danger of being trimmed, but it might never happen 3) the actual trim area (and slug), where we're guaranteed the content will be cut off.
If we were to just subtract the provided 7.25x9.8 from the provided 8x10.5 and say that our bleed area was 3/8" on a side, then that would mean if we put an image touching the margin, it would be touching the bleed area. That doesn't really make sense. Because the standard practice with bleeds is if you touch the bleed line, then you should go all the way to the trim line.
The other reason this doesn't make sense is that 3/4" is 9.4% of 8". That is a lot of page to waste on a bleed. And, indeed. 3/8" is a rather large amount for a bleed, at least at these sizes. (If you were cutting billboards, different story...).
Oh, and also, knowledge of magazine layouts gives us some more information, as Peter mentioned. It's quite common that a full page ad is allowed to bleed all the way, but otherwise all content on the page (advertising as well as Real Content) is kept within a margin, like 3/8". So there is a 3/8" border between the page edge and any content.
