I need a HD DVR 6416 STB

I'm not sure how many Verizon employees use these forums or if any consumers know of any solutions to my problem but I figured I'd give this a try.
I recently purchased a Samsung theater consisting of the LED UN46B600, BluRay BD-P1600 and SoundBar HT-WS1R. All devices can use a technology called Anynet+. Follow this link for more information. In short, Anynet+ allows every Samsung device to be controlled by one remote and putting a DVD in the player will cause the input to switch and sound system to switch input (if applicable). This is especially important to me because the Fios remote does not have a compatible code with the BluRay player and the Fios remote cannot adjust the TV's menu options (which I frequently do for picture quality).
The Anynet+ feature will not work with the Motorola HD DVR QIP7216 because the box interferes with the HDMI-CEC signal. The purpose of this post is to not only notify consumers and staff of this issue but to see if anyone knows where I can get a LEGAL HD DVR 6416 STB. This older STB is completely compatible with Anynet+ so therefore, I need it. I currently have a Verizon employee who is calling retail stores but I am sure there are far too many to contact them all. If any of you know where I can get the QIP6416 or have any ideas for a fix, please let me know.
As a side note, I would just like the to say that the Verizon staff have been very helpful over these past few days. This is not
a typical problem and they have really worked hard to find a solution. They have even provided me with a free 3 month trial of HBO/Cinemax. I have been very happy with the service since I switched from Comcast, I do not want to have to switch back because of this.
P.S. A universal remote is not a solution

All of Verizon cable boxes are part of a controlled inventory which means that you can not pick up their DVR's from outside third party retailers or off the internet from other customers.   Once you have the cable box, Verizon needs to activate the cable box for use, and if it's not part of the inventory or has been reported as unrecoverable or missing or stolen, then they won't activate it.
The best way to get a 6416 is through a field technician.  They are the only ones that can sift around looking for a 6416 model.  A verizon rep calling on your behalf to the various VZ stores is the next best thing, but other than that, over the phone tech support and customer service simply check mark DVR and the system indiscriminately sends whatever DVR is in inventory.
So if in inventory there are a bunch of 7216;s there is nothing that a vz employee can check mark that says to grab a 6416 instead, and so if you have a Field tech or a vz employee making calls to the stores for you (you can also get a list of stores online and make some calls yourself too) then that is the best options that you can excercise.
stores can be found online here, https://www22.verizon.com/Residential/Templates/sas/sas_StoreLocator.aspx  but make sure you call.   A lot of stores don't do repair style exchanges for reasons like you're describing, so if they do it will have to be on an individual case basis, they normally will refer you to call the repair desk   888 553 1555

  • 480i out of my 6416 STB?

I'm trying to figure out my options for getting my Toshiba HDD DVDr with S-video input to record full screen HD (at SD resolutions I know).
    My options are:
    1. add a component to S-video converter (needs 480i input, about $139)
    2. add a component to S-video converter (accepts anything, about $230)
    3. abandon the Toshiba and buy a DVDr from eBay that has component inputs (maybe $50)
    4. live with the black bars all around
    Question:
Can I even set the 6416 to give me 480i out of the component outs?  The more I think about that, the more I don't think I really want to.  My TV uses HDMI from the STB.  I'd want to keep that at 1081i.
    Any help would be appreciated.

This actually isn't difficult. At least on my 6416, the S-Video output jack is active even in HD channels, in fact I have a JVC S-VHS VCR connected that way.
Just run an S-VHS cable from the back of the 6416 to the S-Video input on the DVR. S-video isn't 480i, and it isn't component, but S-Video is capable of about 400 line resolution. By contrast, SD over the air is limited to about 330 lines. So while S-Video isn't quite as good as 480i, it is very close, and a lot better than composite video.
At any rate, I can watch HD channels as SD full screen by routing the s-video signal through the VCR and into the S-Video input on my TV. I can also record them as SD on the S-VHS VCR, so there is no reason to think you cannot do the same thing with a DVD recorder.
So you should be able to record HD TV to your DVD recorder via the S-Video output on the 6416 while watching HD TV.

  • How come need to restart or reset STB to watch TV in almost every two days?

As subject, is my STB broken can I get a new one?

I have a similar problem. If I leave my dvr on one channel for too long, I eventually get a black screen. I can get the picture back by simply changing channels. The more frustrating problem is that I can't watch any recorded programs. The dvr says the program is playing, but it stays on the current channel. During this error, the stb won't record any programs. The only way to fix it is to reset the stb. Once reset it works fine for a while, but the problem eventually comes back. Any one have a permanent fix other than having the dvr replaced?

  • Need to replace dvr-105

hi I need to replace a pioneer dvr-105 dvd/cd rom in my mirror door g4. I've heard people mention the dvr-112 as a replacement, however I have a pioneer dvr-a12 available to me now. Anyone know if this can be used a a replacement?

    Hi-
Thats the labelflash version of the DVR-112. It should work fine. As long as it is a bulk unit, after removing the front bezel, it will mount where the 105 did.
You may want to update your OS, and you may need the help of Patchburn for full support of the drive.

  • Thinking to get FIOS. Need Info on DVR

I have been renting a TiVo Premium with my RCN cable tv service. I am leaving RCN and thinking to get FIOS which is finally available in my neighborhood. But I love the TiVo. Anyone has any hand-on experience wth Verizon's DVR?
In particular, I am most concern with 3 things:
1 With the TiVo, using their software I can transfer recorded shows to my PC. Can the Verizon DVR do that?
2 The RCN TiVo has 2 turners, so I can record 2 different shows at the same time. I chat online with the Verizon sales people, they say all their DVR's are single turner but then they said I can "watch one show while recording another. It even allows for recording two shows while watching a previously recorded show." I asked him how that's possible with only 1 turner in the box but they didn't know the answer.
3 Can I expand the capacity with an external hard drive?

Question 1:  No, not directly.  You can however copy material recorded on the DVD in real time to another recording device (e.g., a DVD-R device).
Question 2.  The VZ DVRs also have 2 tuners, not one.  They operate in the same way as the TiVo you described.
Question 3.  The latest VZ DVR units support an eSata external drive (evidently 2 TB max).

  • New to FIOS TV Multi-room DVR - Should I be able to use DVR functions from the other HD STBs?

We just converted from Directv (three DVRs) to FIOS TV and am hoping I didn't make a huge mistake: The sales agent I spoke to said that the Multi-room DVR (Motorola QIP-7216-1) and non-DVR STB would enable me to get the same features I had with my Directv setup so each user could Stop/Start/Record programming from their own remote. Unless I'm doing something wrong, I can only perform DVR control functions from the real DVR. I can view recorded programming on the non-DVR STBs but pressing record for a live broadcast or trying to select a show to record from the guide doesn't work.
I have the ActiontecGen2 MOCA connected MI424WR router, three HD STBs (Motorola 7000), one standard definition STB and the DVR.

As you've found, you can only create recordings from the DVR.  If you want each room to have the ability to schedule recordings, then you need a separate DVR in each room.
The FiOS Motorola DVRs cannot access recordings stored on other DVRs.

  • Upstairs STB can't see the downstairs DVR recorded shows

    Hi all,
I have the DVR downstairs and 2 STBs upstairs.  As far as I can tell, the upstairs boxes are doing everything well except for one issue; they are unable to access and play the shows that I have recorded downstairs on the DVR. I have tried the suggested troubleshooting. I unplugged all 3 units and the router for 1 minute, then powered up the router, DVR, and STBs in that order (letting each finish before moving on to the next). The only thing I did since I got FiOS is to change the router SSID and also disabled broadcasting the SSID. I haven't changed the WEP that the technician entered.  Do the STBs need the router to broadcast in order to be able to play the DVR-recorded content? Do I need to keep the defaults (I don't really want to broadcast the SSID).
I ran the diagnostics on the STB and everything looked good except for two items;  "Remote DVR: Not Applicable" and "DVR Hub Connection: Failed."  Are these normal or can they be the source of my problem?
    Thanks in advance.

DVR Hub connection Failed is a problem.  Call Verizon.  For some reason - the DVR is not communicating w/ the router.  The SSID is not the issue.  Does your settop have an IP address?

  • 2 dvrs or single multi room dvr???

i currently have one DVR set up for multi room $19.99 and one standardt STB $4.99.    My wife tapes tons of standard programs and watches them all in the bedroom on the STB (non HD TV there).   This of course limits what i can watch on the good HD DVR in the family room on the HDTV.    I'm thinking of upgrading the HD DVR to the new 500gb (black one) to take advantage of the new IMG and getting a second DVR for my wife in the bedroom, unless there is something i'm not doing right or something in the new IMG to enable the multi room DVR to allow me to watch programs on the HD DVR while two others are recording?   if I do the 2 DVR set up (one standard and one HD)  whats this cost?

Verizon doesn't distribute SD boxes any more ... just HD DVR, HD STB, and a digital adapter (which is SD but doesn't have the guide or the ability to do on demand or multiroom DVR).   You can use an HD box with an SD TV.
Anyhow to your question ... it's one of preference.   The 7232 500GB DVR can be run in multiroom DVR allowing you to watch one channel and record another while someone else is watching a DVR program, or record two channels and watch one on the local TV (and I believe also one on a remote STB).
Difference with two DVR's is the ability to record 4 shows simultaneously (and still be watching two from the DVR's) vs the single setup which is record 2 shows and watch one on each TV.
    So, for two DVR's, I believe it's 14.99 each.
For one DVR multi-room and your current SD box $19.99 and $4.99
For one DVR multi-room and an SD box $19.99 and $9.99 (although at one point verizon had a DVR bundle which dropped the latter to $7.99).
Another option ... and this is what I'm doing in my house with 4 STB's is 2 DVR's and 2 HD STB's with multi-hub enabled (multi-hub is basically multiroom with the new 1.9a IMG which makes all DVR's accessible from any box).  Cost $19.99 for the first DVR, two HD STB's roughly $6 each (DVR bundled discount), and a regular DVR at $14.99.   In your scenario with two DVR's -- $19.99 and $14.99 and you have the best of both worlds.
Recommendation -- one HD DVR multiroom and one HD STB bundled unless you need more the two tuners.

  • Four dashes and no time on two STBs

Last evening I lost my connection to FIOS TV on all three STBs.  There was a message that the station was temporarily unavailable,  There was a solution that said to press the "B" button on my remote to reset the box.  I did that on two of the STBs.  The DVR came back with 4 dashes - no time.  The other just has a screen stating "Starting Up ... One moment Please".  The third set top box where I did not follow the reboot suggestion of home agent reconnected in a few hours and I have FIOS TV.
Called tech support and they tried sending a signal but it did not work.  Am being told there is an "outage" in Manhattan and others who tried to reboot the box have the same issue.  The outage is the lost connection to the FIOs server.  Said that Central office will send a signal to correct the problem in a couple of hours. I have been told this since 10PM yesterday.  They also said the instruction from the home agent to reboot was the cause the problem.
I "ggogled" and others with this problem in the past but never a solution except replacing the STB.
Anyone else with this issue?  Does anyone know if it can be resolved by the Central office or will I need a replacement for two STBs?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Good news: This morning both STGs were working well.  It appears that Central fixed my problem and similar ones overnight.  Have tried to cancel shipment of STGs.  Will return if they arrive.
Lesson: First call two days ago to a tech gave a correct assessment that there was a TV station outage.  Second call also correct that tthe TV station outage was fixed but there was an new outage caused by customers who tried rebooting their STG during the station outage.  That caused a loss of contact with the server.  I was told that would be fixed in a few hours. However when I called late yesterday afternoon I was told they were not aware of an existing outage and felt it was probably wireing or my STG. I expect there was some confusion about which outage was fixed and which was outstanding and the plan for a solution.  it appears that the plan was to fix the outage overnight - which they did.
It would be useful if My Verizon listed an outage in my area and the nature of the outage and when it was expected to be corrected.  I expect the technology to provide localized notices exisits.

Verizon Router Multicasting To My Home Network
    interesting discussion there.   although brief
Strange that multicast on port 1900 wich is plug and play and gives a spoofing warning as if there was two devices attempting to use the same IP.
After I reset my router I can remote DVR and all works fine now that my external IP is on a different network. Strange because the private IP should not route, unless Verizon is doing/allowing a Multicast for the guide data to everyone with a STB. I have 192.168.1.100-108 so why would it just be going to 100?
But now it no longer happens. I don't like this Actiontec Firmware. Almost makes me want to go back to my Linux up front and forget the features. My Linux box would log EVERYTHING, and I never had these issues, plus all my STBs/DVRs updated just fine. Just no remote and no CID.

One of my BIGGEST complaints about ALL the remote features and CID. The router MUST have the correct port forwarding rules in the router, so the web site can find the DVR, or STBs for CID. They never get set right, always get messed up with even the simplest changes to the Verizon router. I gave up on all of it and started using my router that I like better. Even with all the correct port forwarding rules in the router, the features are hit or miss in my opinion. These rules are read only and can only be fixed by Verizon.
Contact tech support and insist that it be fixed while you are on the phone. It can be fixed, and do not take the it will need to be escalated, as an answer. Once I was told it would need to be escalated and could take a couple days. Look at your router, and if it is a REV A. Have it replaced because they are nothing but trouble. If you log into the router you should see forwarding rules for each STB or DVR.

  • Want my DVR to use wifi from Time Capsule

We have two wireless networks in our house which seems stupid.  Until now, we've shrugged it off and ignored the wifi created by the fios router and use a wired Time Capsule to create a wifi network that we use.  Now, there's a new feature where we could watch tv in other rooms on our iphone, ipads, etc.  That's great except the TV is on the wifi that came with the FIOS router instead of the wifi the rest of us in the house are using.
So, I googled about it to see what I could do to combine the networks.  It turns out you cannot extend the fios wifi with the Time Capsule because the Apple Airport devices have features for extending networks that the fios wifi doesn't have.  I found I could turn off the fios wifi but then the DVR wouldn't have an internet connection.  So, I thought, I'll change the DVR ot use the Time Capsule wifi, which I'd prefer because we want to keep that network.  I checked the DVR and found the home network settings -- and it turned out to be a place where you can see the settings, but you can't change the settings there, but there has to be a way to set it up somewhere, no?
Ideally, I'd turn off the FIOS wifi and change the DVR over to use our existing home network.  At the moment, we will have to switch networks, depending on what we want to do.  We use the Time Capsule for backups, to share files, for airtunes, etc.  It also extends thru the entire house whereas the FIOS one doesn't.  If we wanted to use the new features to watch programs from ipads, etc, we'd have to switch them over to the other network while we did.  It's just a bit of a pain.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

Many folks have two or more wireless networks in a single dwelling (including me).  It doesn't seem stupid to me and if there's a problem, one or both wireless networks can be disabled in the router or Time Capsule settings.

Maybe it's just a terminology issue, but none of the Verizon STBs or DVRs has wireless capability.  Presently these devices only connect to the network using coax, although this may change in the future.

No.  As in my earlier comment, DVRs and STBs connect to the network via coax and are fed IP addresses via the FiOS router.  That's how they get Guide data, VOD, etc.
    liz4cps wrote:

The DVR will always connect to the network via the FiOS router.  However there is nothing to stop you from disabling the wireless radio in the FiOS router, and having all your wireless devices (but definitely not your DVRs or STBs) connect to your preferred wireless network.  You can use whatever security features, SSIDs, and passwords you desire on the alternate device, and have all your portable devices connect there.
I hope this is clear, so please review the above and come back with further questions if necessary.  Good luck.
