I need a Mac compatible photo scanner

Does anyone know a good scanner that is Mac compatible that I can scan old photos and have them come out good so I can store them in IPhoto. I can't seem to find one that isn't for Windows or a PC. I would really like to preserve my old photos in my computer.

Hi,
I just got the HP G4050 last week. It's scans Pics, 35mm slides and negatives. I have scanned 166 35mm slides and have imported them into iPhoto. So far It's words great. The only thing is that you need to download the MAC Leopard software from the HP site, and they don't tell you that in the instructions that come with the scanner.

  • Mac compatible printer/scanner server

    Hi.
I have two macs on OS X 10.6.6. I have a really good but older Brother laser printer/scanner/fax. I would like to network the two macs to be able to print and scan over the network - but, the printer only has parallel port and usb slots. I tried a printer server (iogear GPSU21) only to discover that I can print, but not scan. iogear has one that does all-in-one with full functionality, including my Brother MFC-7220, but it is a PC only product. Talked to my mac store and they suggested purchasing a new printer/fax/scanner that has networking built in and said they didn't know of any products or work-arounds. We would like to keep using the old Brother, with out having to move cables between computers etc...any suggestions? Thanks so much in advance for your help and ideas...
    Ciao,
    Paul

    That's a tough one.
I think you won't be able to access all the features from all the Macs given it's interfaces/limitations.
However, if you attach the printer to a Mac, you can share the printer and scanner from OS X. I believe that is in System Preferences, Printers and Image Capture settings.
Im not at my Mac at the moment, but have a look and see.
I think that is the only solid solution for you.

  • Mac compatible scanner and ocr

I have a canoscan lide 35 scanner and it works fine, but I can't get image capture to play nice with it.
    Any fixes for image capture?
I have the drivers installed and it operated the scanner but Scan Gear doesn't work well to capture scans either. Does anyone know of any good software that would work with this hardware or is there any good Mac compatible flatbed scanner ?
I primarily scan text and would like good OCR software also. Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Regards

    Hiya,
I am using a Canon Lide 210 and have used Canon's own "Solutions EX" that should have been on the CD that came with your scanner. It works perfectly (I have just tried) and converts it into "text" or "pdf". With "text" you can work easily.
    Have you tried this?
NB: with any OCR, you will find, it's not faultless (close characters together are often "misspelt" as a different word, but textedit (where my OCR scans automatically open), highlights any typos errors in red underline.

  • Does anyone know of a good A3 photo scanner compatable with OS 10.8 mountain lion? I need it to scan watercolour artwork. I was interested in Microtek scanmaker 9800XL and also Epson Expression 10000 but neither are compatible. Thanks :-)

    Daniel Craigie-
How full is the hard drive that you are trying to save to? Not that it should matter, but have you tried scanning another document?
Is the scanner plugged directly into the Mac? Try it that way.
Disconnect all peripherals except keyboard, monitor, mouse and scanner and see if the problem goes away.

  • Konica Minolta 2590MF Scanner Mac Compatible Software?

I bought this nice, new printer/fax/scanner combo for $350, including shipping, and it really does print beautifully. I've even gotten the fax working to my satisfaction. The scanner is another matter. Vuescan and Silverfast(?) don't have this item on their supported list. I opened Image Capture on my iMac, and it even allows me to chose my printer's name, but it doesn't respond thereafter to any commands, and the scanner commands on it's board don't go past allowing me to choose Scan to PC, but then won't proceed when you hit the Select [the action to Scan to PC] command. I think it will give a high quality scan if it would work with my computer...
It's rather disingenuous of Konica Minolta to plaster Mac OSX pictures on their box and on all the advertising for this product, when only the printer portion of the multifunction machine is Mac-compatible. Their own booklets [the ones you see only after you buy the product and download them] indicate that you should take it upon yourself to go and find a Twain-based software that is compatible with their machine...what kind of manufacturer's advice is that?
I went to the SANE site, but they were so techie, I couldn't comprehend the lengthy instructions about what to definitely not to contact them about [under any circumstances]...I'm not completely new to this, but not a programmer, either... Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks for that. I am going to check it out.
After hours of fooling around with Image Capture and clicking options and restarting stuff, I am now successfully using Image Capture. The main item was choosing the scanner at a different level and clicking on a Twain option and a few other things I did to the scanner.
The scan quality for photos is astonishing for the money I paid for this machine. Image Capture has a lot of limitations, no doubt, but it works at a passable level, although I am definitely going to see if SANE will be better. We have a lot of old photos I want to digitize.
I really wanted this machine to work, so it's great to find a work-around (haven't we mac users always been about that?, and more than one.

  • I need to change a photo into a video file in order to post on youtube. How can I do this with my mac?

I need to change a photo into a video file in order to post in youtube. How can I do this with my mac mini?

When I go to import, the choices are :
    movies
    camera archive
    imovie for IOS
    imovie for HD
It refuses to import a photo with any of these choices, which is located on the desktop or in a folder. It's a regular .jpg
There are instructions to drag it. I put it there, and it bounces right back. The photo will not stay.
I just need this one picture to go on so I can post a meditation on youtube.  It doesn't come from a camera.

    Hi 44621,
I suspect your question would be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community,  as the HP Scanjet 4370 is a commercial model.
My technical expertise is with consumer products and software, I am sure the commercial folks would be happy to help if you re-post your question for them to answer. The HP Enterprise Business Community is an HP Forum designed for the Commercial and Enterprise customers to help one another. I am sure you will find some HP folks there to help too.
Click here to view the Printing and Digital Imaging.  When the page opens you will see the option to 'Log in' or 'Register Now' on the right. The commercial forums are separate from the consumer boards, thus you will need to register if you don't already have a commercial account.
You may find the  HP Scanjet 4370 Photo Scanner supportpage helpful while you wait for somebody in the commercial Forum to respond to your inquiry.

  • Need advice purchasing auto feed photo scanner

I'm looking for suggestions to purchase a photo scanner with auto doc feed that is very Mac friendly. The local photo shop uses *Kodak i1220* which is Windows-only. It is supposedly optimized for photos and does a much better job than the *Fujitsu 1550m*; but I would really prefer not to deal with Boot Camp or Fusion to run Windows. If you have had success please let me know how you did it.
I have several thousand photos to scan, so manual feed is not an option.

Can't help you with any scanner suggestions but have you looked at Crossover? It runs PC apps without having to install Windows. You might contact them about the drivers for the scanners and see what they say.

  • I need a wireless usb adaptor for a Power Mac G4... any suggestions? (needs to be compatible)

I need a wireless usb adaptor for a Power Mac G4... any suggestions? (needs to be compatible)

With Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, a number of USB Wi-Fi adapters would be possible to use. However, for an earlier operating system, a wireless Ethernet bridge (such as the examples below) can be a better (and sometimes the only) option. A wireless Ethernet bridge does not normally require special drivers, and can thus be used with almost any Ethernet-equipped computer.

  • Mac PSE9 Epson 4990 Photo Scanner support

I just installed PSE9 on an iMac (Snow Leopard).  PSE9 does not see the Epson 4990 Photo scanner in the "import" option.
This scanner shows up on this computer in the "import" option in PSE8.  Both versions of PSE are installed on this computer
The latests version of the scanner driver is installed.
What can I do to make the scanner work in PSE9?
    Thanks.

Epson scanners rely on the adobe TWAIN driver, which is not installed by default in PSE 9. Go to Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 9>Optional Plug-Ins>ImportModules, and move TWAIN.plugin from there into  Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 9>Plug-Ins>ImportModules.
