To Mr Green: if you want just simple mpd client try glurp or gmpc.
Sonata and Pygme are nice too, but I don't like Python.

  • I'm fed up with iTunes, I need a media player that won't erase my music!

iTunes has erased all my music twice now (I never clicked a button, I did nothing at all out of the ordinary, no messages popped up, nothing. When I e-mailed the problem, they sent me some bullcrap e-mail back stating that all the music that I bought from them will be returned. No reason, no explanation, just an automatic message trying to goad me into buying overpriced crap music from iTunes) I'm sick of it, I'm fed up. When I plugged in my iPod my computer froze so I had to restart it, I plugged it in again and turned off automatic updates. Turns out that iTunes doesn't know what that means so it updates my iPod anyways, go figure. So all my songs on my iPod are gone as well. It's really starting to make a CD player look good now.
So my question is, before I decide to start cussing out some of the people at iTunes, is there another media player that I can download (for free, preferably) that will update my iPod?

okay, where or how else can you get music files on and off your ipod? cause there has got to be a better way to do this? i already subcribe to pay sites for my downloads and i am having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to import files into folders or playlists on itunes to get them on my kids nanos and my shuffle. i don't want to have to buy songs from the itunes store at 99 cents apiece when i have a yearly subscribtion already with another service, not to mention a large library of files already on my hard drive. you should not be limited to using strictly apple downloads. i mean for what we are paying for the players themselves compared to other mp3 players they should be compatible with some other software for transferring songs. am i off base here??

  • Need External DVD Player that Works on Mac

My G4 fell (ouch) and the right corner bent and the DVD player doesn't work anymore. At Best Buy I bought a LG DVD player and burner, but my G4 wouldn't recognize it. Then I bought a Pioneer DVD player and burner, but it wouldn't recognize that either (this one has a place to plug in a cord to power it from the wall, but it didn't help).
Does anyone know of an external DVD player and burner that will work with a Mac G4? They seem to all be well under $100, a lot cheaper than having a Mac repair person open up my G4 and try to fix the internal player and also replace the shell.
BTW, I guess I could get by without a burner, so if you know of just a player that would work with my G4, I would consider it. Also the LG player says on the box it works with Mac, but then I noticed it needs OS X 10.5 . I suppose it costs over $100 to upgrade, so I don't think it's worth it.

All PowerBooks starting the G3 "Pismo" dating to Feb 2000 have Firewire Ports. On the 17" G4, the FireWire 400 port is the only labeled "2" in this image of the right edge of the computer:
FireWire is an Apple trademark for the IEEE 1394 interface. Other companies will usually use the IEEE designator to avoid mentioning Apple.

    Hi Lindsay.
The [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_Media_Player MozillaZine "Windows Media Player" KB doc] explains installation and troubleshooting in-depth including a link to test the plugin, which should help you solve this problem.
Do note - if your Windows 7 OS is a 64-bit version, make sure that the plugin actually ends up in the Mozilla Firefox plugin folder (default '''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\'''). There are reports of the plugin (or actually Firefox) ending up in the wrong folder. 64-bit Windows systems has 2 Program Folder locations - "Program Files" for 64-bit applications, and "Program Files (x86)" for 32-bit applications.
Also note that the Windows Media Player is required to use the plugin - if WMP has been uninstalled from the Windows Control Panel, the plugin will not work.
Please let us know how above works out, and if we can be of further assistance. Detailed feedback is appreciated and helps us to help you better, plus enables us to better help more users with similar problems.

  • I need a flash player that does split screen with two "like" videos

I am a newbie on Flash and really need some guidance or a source code to work off of.  I need a flash player that I can have two videos, overlayed with a mask at 50% on each so I see half of one video on the right and half of the other video on the left, thus split screen.
We are trying to show off the same video with a before and after effect or show processed video on one side and non-processed video on the other.
If anyone has a sample or knows how to do this, I would be interested in talking with them.
    Thanks in advance.

Basically the two videos are identical except what was processed on the post
file.  So ideally we would want:
    Video 1 (left side 50%)
    Video 2 (right side 50%)
One controller with play, pause and full screen.

  • Windows media player stop working after upgraded from firefox 6.02 to Firefox 7.01 yesterday.

windows media player stop working after upgraded from Firefox 6.02 to Firefox 7.01 yesterday.
the plugin for win media player is already installed and working fine in FF 6.02 before upgrade. i have Google this issue without any result so far. so i reinstalled the old version 6.02, until fix is found.
anyone has the similar issue with Firefox 7.01 in Win 7 32 bit ?

The issue was not with FF 7.01. VLC player version 1.11.1 is conflicting with windows media player when FF 7.01 tries to play media files! Which was not happening before in FF 6.02.
VLC and plugin media player need to be uninstalled first, then uninstalled FF 6.02. Install FF 7.01 and then win plugin media player again.

  • Does any one know of an MP3 player that works on Phones?

I'm looking for an MP3 player that works on mobile phones, multi-track player that lists out the songs. I've been using widgets from places like reverb nation, sound cloud, but I can't get them those show up on mobile phones.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

These are playlist players which use flash.
To get these to work on iOS devices they need to fallback to HTML5.
The problem is that HTML5 has not been developed enough and there is no cross browser standard.
The JW player attempts to overcome this by using two different versions of the player skin - one for HTML5 and the other for flash.
The one shown on this page uses flash with fallback to HTML5 but I have no idea if it works on the iPhone...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Website-Music-Players/XML-Playlist.html
A test version using HTML5 with fallback to flash works in Safari but not with Chrome or Firefox.

  • Is there a flash player that works on the ipad

is there a flash player that works on the ipad

    Re: Flash player for Ipad
Aug 14, 2011 2:22 AM (in response to phaisto)
Folks, here's the sad truth, according to Engadget:
"After nearly 4 years of the iOS platform, Adobe is still having difficulty being able to get Flash Player on Apple’s mobile platform. Many sided with Adobe on this one a couple of years ago calling this exclusion unreasonable, but the latest failures for Android Honeycomb to deliver decent Flash performance justifies Apple's decision. Even the Frash hacks bogged down the 1st generation iPad and the PlayBook had problems bring Flash to their Blackberry Tablet."
Some months ago, before I really researched this issue, I was determined to "get around Steve Jobs obvious hidden personal and business greed agendas" and run Flash on a tablet. So I bought an ASUS Transformer Tablet just to be able to run flash (a $400 "app")! OK, just a wee bit over the top. But, I can now personally testify to the surprisingly disappointing performance of Flash on Android.
Based on that confirmation, and on numerous reports from those running Flash on jailbroken iPads, either Adobe has lost all of it top notch programmers to Google, Facebook, -- and likely even Apple! -- or it never has been serious about porting Flash to iOS (I suppose this could have been intentional, thinking that the absence of Flash would do serious harm to the platform once folks found out).
But whatever. I am finally over my Flash of "brilliance" and resigned to just skip over the web sites that require Flash, and wait till I am at my iMac or PC to do those that are really necessary. And, despite that the ASUS Tablet does technically run Flash, it does it so poorly that I preferred to use my Mac or PC.
I gave the minty new ASUS Tablet which is otherwise a nicely done, but still "work in progress" (unlike my Android phone) to my med school daughter. She loves it -- and now calls me all the time to talk, usually about how to get stuff to work on it (but any excuse to talk to her is good by me ;-).

Before some Macromedia employee says, "When there is a retail
version", Microsoft said that XP Pro x64 is an OEM release that
anyone can Buy for their AMD64/EM64T PCs only, There will be no
retail version as there are 32bit PCs out there still and XP Pro
x64 will not work on a 32bit Compatible PC, Only on a 64bit

  • Compatible Multi-Media Keyboards that work with LiveDock & Arc S

I've just bought a LiveDock and a Trust multimedia keyboard (model 15035-02, picture below) with a trackball mouse built-in to go with my new Arc S phone.  When you plug the USB dongle for the keyboard into the LiveDock, it sees it and comes up on the TV screen, but no cursor appears and no keys function on the keyboard.  I can't take the keyboard back because I will get charged a 20% restocking fee, but don't fancy buying any more, just to find they aren't compatible.
Is there a list of compatible multi-media keyboards that work with the LiveDock?  I bought the phone and the LiveDock primerily to use it next to the TV for odd browsing and would love a combined Keyboard and mouse to make it easier.
Could it be I've not configured something right?  Is there a menu I've missed?
    Cheers
    Steve

    Hi antonisk,
As I mentioned above, the Logitech K400 is superb for the job if you can purchase one.  It is light and really easy to use with the phone and LiveDock.
I think Sony Ericsson should be more specific on the website about what works with their LiveDock.  It should give at least a few compatible keyboards in the description and not just wait for people to buy the product and then spend time and money finding what will work with it.
They make great costly videos showing the customer that the LiveDock can be connected to a keyboard, mouse and games controller, but don't tell us which ones to go out and buy, if you want to take up this option.
I would have thought with these options being the main reason why the LiveDock was manufactured, that they would have spent a little time finding which devices actually work with it and not just waiting for people like myself to have to trawl the internet and worst still buy products that aren't compatible.

  • Media player that supports arbitrary tag fields

I'm looking for a media player, along the lines of Rhythmbox or Amarok, that supports sorting/grouping/editing of arbitrary metatag fields.
I'm finding the standard Artist/Album/Title setup a bit limiting for my library.  For my purposes (academic - critical listening and comparison of classical music), I need to have tags for the composer, piece, movement, conductor, performer('s), publisher, album name, publication date, and recording date.
Vorbis comments work well for this, as they allow arbitrary field names.  But, to my knowledge, none of the music players make use of this degree of freedom.
    Any suggestions?

Quod Libet & its companion Ex Falso tagger should work (in the repos). I successfully added the arbitrary tag "sub-genre" using the preferences dialog; both the Quod Libet player and library handled those tags just fine.
    http://www.sacredchao.net/quodlibet
The "sub-genre" tag was originally added to files (FLAC, Ogg, MPC, MP3) with MP3Tag and played / displayed in Foobar2000 on Windows ... both of these apps are really the holy grail of flexibility that you are looking for, but Linux has nothing closely approximating them, especially Foobar2000 (I think there is a wine tutorial for Foobar2000 on HydrogenAudio forums, but if you've not had experience with Foobar under Windows, I'm not sure I'd want to start out with it on Linux/Wine.
Anyway, the underlying mutagen metadata handler used by Quod Libet and Ex Falso is what allows their flexibility in handling tags, and it is available in other players as well, including Listen and Exaile. Unfortunately, from what I can tell, neither Listen or Exaile implemented much of the power of mutagen (at least I couldn't see that arbitrary tags could be added / displayed), plus Exaile is buggy as h*ll in my experience. The biggest problem I have with all these players that I have mentioned (including Quod Libet) is that they are python apps, and I have a thing about (against) python apps. They are really resource hungry, and even though I have plenty of power to spare, I just dislike the concept of having to run an app to run an app, so to speak (as is the way python and java, which I also dislike, work). But, sometimes you have to suck it up.
So, give Quod Libet a try if you've gotten anything positive out of what I've said (beyond my python bias, Quod Libet is good and pretty popular). I'm not currently using Quod (I'm using MPD + gMPC, and it doesn't handle arbitrary tags either), but I may give Quod another chance at some point just for the tag handling.
Someone else may know of another solution, and if so, we'll both learn something useful.

  • How do i get my ipod nano/i tunes/windows media player to work together

I am having the same problem. All my music is in My Music folder including itunes folder. All i want to do is tell itunes where it is but itunes keeps copying the files to its own folder, so mi end up with 2 files for everything (1 in MY Music folder and 1 in Itunes folder)?

  • Windows Media Player not working in Firefox 7

This pertains to a beta Internet radio page at http://www.radiofreeneptune.com/ with Windows Media Player embedded in the page.
Prior to Forefox 7, browsing the page with Firefox had the correct media player interface appear (black, with blue buttons) as soon as the page loaded. Clicking on Play caused the music to play.
Having updated to Firefox 7, Firefox stops working for about a minute when the page is first accessed (it appears to be buffering a lot of audio). A crude Media Player interface finally appears. Audio starts playing immediately, even though the embedded control has it AutoStart set to false.
FireFox has the Microsoft Windows Media Player for Firefox 1.0.0.8 installed.
Any idea what might be causing this?
    Thanks.
    Jack

Try to remove the old (Npdsplay dll in the plugins list) WMP plugin in case that is used.
The embed for Firefox has autostart="1" not not autostart=false (0) like the object for IE.

  • Is there a version of flash player that works on windows mobile 6.5?

    Hi,
Forgive me if this question shows my ignorance but is there a version that can be installed that works with wm6.5?  When I visit web pages on my device that have embedded flash content I am advised that I need to update my version of flash player but the link takes me to an Adobe page that doesn't seem to have a version that will work for my device.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

I've been reading lately about Apple's ongoing battle with Adobe over mobile apps and Flash. What I've gotten from all of it is that Apple wants to develop a mobile format replacement to Flash, and Adobe wants to block it. Apple's contention is that Flash is too bulky and consumptive for mobile apps and content. Apple has barred any mobile apps for iPhone and iPad from containing any Flash code, and Adobe says that has hurt their development of SDKs for people who want to make iPhone apps. It's turned into a regular peeing contest.
I would have to assume that Apple iPhone, DROID, and Windows Mobile all have the same issue with Flash content and software, since they all have to fall within the standards for mobile communications in order to be "universally accessible" by all the companies that make PDAs, tablets, and phones.
I've yet to see a Flash Player download for Windows Mobile, and given the current environment, with HTML 5 coming soon, it's not likely I will.
