I need a mouse

My iMac is approaching ten years old and I have now completely worn out one keyboard and three mice. Too many miles on 'em all.
The first two were Apple and the latest is a Belkin F8E882-OPT two button mouse with scroll wheel. The scroll wheel doesn't appear to use an optical encoder and it seems its contacts have just worn away. It's probably uneconomical to repair. Other than that it's been a fine little rodent.
I know this is primarily a hardware question, but I'm using Tiger so I can't use a Magic Mouse, which would be the ideal solution.
Requirements are: optical (naturally), left and right click, scroll wheel with tilt and click. Wired USB, no wireless or Bluetooth. No Microsoft.
I have a Logitech wireless mouse, but I don't particularly like it since it since its optical encoder doesn't track with most surfaces, and its mass is excessive due to the two AA batteries that need to be replaced from time to time.
Any recommendations for my iMac's birthday present?

From ebay new Apple Mouse? Has ten available. First one I saw. $20 + $4 shipping. Appears to have good feedback.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220342143041&rvrid=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=M*F%3F&GUID=c5c1157a1280a0e203c60906ff99bc23&itemid= 220342143041&ff4=263602263622
But no left & right click; just a basic retro, zero button mouse (sorry, just saw those requirements above.) I'm still using those, even on my new iMac 21.5, so don't know (or even care about) the luxury of a more gimmicked up mouse. I might even like the Magic Mouse and wonder why I stuck with the old one so long, if I get around to installing it at some point.
And my G3, approaching ten years, wouldn't let me hear the end of it if I connected anything else to it.
But hope you find something you like.

  • Please, i bought a new track pad for my imac. it is working well when my imac is on. But, anytime i off my imac and wish to on it again, My track pad will be connected but it doesn't click i will need a mouse to log in my password first . Any help?

Please, i bought a new track pad for my imac. it is working well when my imac is on. But, anytime i off my imac and wish to on it again, My track pad will be connected but it doesn't click i will need a mouse to log in my password first . Any help?
To be specific. I have the imac late 2013 model, and i just bought the trackpad this October 2014. I have been using magic mouse without any problem. I just want to have a new experience with the trackpad.  Any time i on my imac, i will have a normal screen with my picture and a guest column at the center. I need to click either my picture or the guest in order to have the space where i can key in my password with the keyboard. But unfortunately, my trackpad will show that it is connected and the cursor will be moving in front of the screen if i touch the trackpad, but if i try to click, i will get no response. I have to put back batteries inside my magic mouse and then click on my picture if i want to log in with my id or i click on the guest image if i want to log in as a guest. it is only after this that my trackpad will start responding.
i want to use only trackpad for now so as to be more efficient with it. I don't want to be putting back batteries inside the magic mouse only to on my imac. I need a solution please.
    Thanks.

It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.

  • Do I need a mouse?

I am about to buy my first MacBook online from Apple?  Do I need a mouse, or is the trackpad really so good that I won't need a mouse?
    Thanks!

I have had MBP's since about 2006, the track pad is fine for almost everything, it actually ismore cinvienient than a mouse for most things, there is a small learing curve, but it is easy. I use a mouse vary rarely now,and have not missed it at all, it usually for the rare occasion to plat a game, which I find a little difficult with the track pad.
Do you ned one, no, will you prefer one, that is for you to decide. Give it a fair chance to get used to it, as you can also customize the "gestures to your tastes"
But you can always get a mouse, and you can use both at the same time, or not, your choice.
Also learning some of the more common keyboard shrtcuts is even easier and faster than either.

  • Need a Mouse Listener

I have a main menu with a series of buttons, when you press a
button, it triggers an animation for a fly-out menu with a series
of buttons to trigger other events. Everything works fine up to
    this point.
What I need is an independent hit area underneath the buttons
on the fly-out menu so that when the mouse leaves the area, the
fly-out menu will retract. The current methods require that the
mouse be down or released, but I need a mouse listener for an
'over' and 'out' state so that when the mouse is over the hit area,
the fly-out menu will show and when the mouse leaves the hit area,
    the fly-out menu will retract.
I've have googled and read and am now totally confused. Can
anyone point me in the right direction to solve this
    problem?

you shouldn't need setInterval, and its incorrectly set up.
If you wanted to use a setInterval call instead of the onMouseMove
event then you could do it as follows (but its NOT good
programming, just providing it for illustrative purposes)
remove the line Mouse.addListener... etc (you wouldn't do
both an onMouseMove check and a setInterval check)
    and put in
    var ML = setInterval(mouseListener,"onMouseMove",500);
That should work... I haven't tested it. Nor do I recommend
it. I think you're better off with onMouseMove.
If you are going to use the setInterval its better to change
    the name of the
onMouseMove everywhere that it appears to something like
onIntervalCheck just so it makes more sense to you if you
look at it later on (or for someone else too). Using onMouseMove
shouldn't be too demanding on the CPU - and if its noticeable it
should only be for very short bursts.
BTW You can also delete or comment out the trace actions...
they were just there to help you understand how it works. Best not
to leave them in when you do a final publish (or exclude trace
    actions in your publish settings)

Do I need a mouse pad for my new Magic Mouse

I assume you mean a wireless mouse.  It would be helpful  The hard surface of a desk is not so kind to it.   I use a square of fine black artist's felt and Hoover it now and then to keep the dust down.

  • Need More Mouse Events

During search over net I found the above thread and it seems to be describing the same problem which I am also facing. For my application also I need to capture all the mouse events while dragging. I tried the soluiotn mentioned at this thread to solve this problem by overrinding the below method in several ways:
    protected AWTEvent coalesceEvents(AWTEvent existingEvent,AWTEvent newEvent);
Even after several attempts, I could not succeed. Can you please suggest how to do that. I was not able to reply to above thread so creating this new thread.
    Thanks

I wanted to see if a timer based approach does indeed produce a smoother curve than just simply listening for mouse drag events. What I came up with below was the resulting test code. Lo and behold, using a timer does indeed produce a smoother curve. But it wasn't because it was capturing more mouse positions, it was because it was capturing less. Ain't that a kicker? Another interesting thing is that according to the source code, coalesceEvents is a no-op. The documentation, however, would have you believe that it coalesces mouse events as I thought it did.

  • Need help: Mouse + OS freezes periodicaly every 2-3 seconds

    Greetings,
my brand new MacPro arrived and I just finished installing After Effects and the Creative Suite on Friday. I left the Mac in the office, transferring my personal files from the old mac over the weekend.
Unfortunately I experience a problem today:
The Mouse and the hole System freezes for approx 0,25seconds every 3 seconds! Crazy: the pattern of stop and go is completely constant. It began with 0,25sec stop every 3 seconds and now changed into a second freeze just after the first stop, ... then 3 seconds everything seemed fine and so on ...
What I already did: I changed the USB Port of my Keyboard, changed the mouse AND keyboard, startet in SafeMode, checked whether TimeMachine is off. With no positive result.
Does anyone of you have an idea? I really need this new computing-power today for my current project.
Here a list of Sotware I installed: Adobe CS2, After Effects CS4, Firefox.
    Thank YOU!

DNA. No two chips are 200% identical. When you say identical Mac, exact same process config and firmware?
When new machines ship, there may be new OS builds this week that wasn't there last week; or different firmware for EFI (or graphics cards), which can be assembled in different locations or parts.
The first thing I do after a freeze is zap pram/nvram; run an fsck or diskutil, or boot from another drive and repair. A system that has not crashed, frozen etc will have intact and the integrity of the file system. Which is why sometimes the first thing suggested is to boot from a fresh install or backup or another hard drive than the one you have.
Go to About This Mac... Command + click on "OS X version" and it will display "Build...." - in case they differ.
Changing hardware can trigger a rebuild of nvram which, just from swapping parts, can affect outcome (quantum effect of measuring (spin, charge or location), but the act itself changes what is observed).

  • Feedback needed--Mighty Mouse?

Hello. I'm thinking of purchasing a Mighty Mouse, but I have a questions. I currently use the BT Mouse/Keyboard. I know the MM is not bluetooth(yet), but I am willing to use it via usb, but I still want to use my BT Keyboard. My point is: I know the wiered mouse that came w/ my mac had a very short cord, mainly for pluging it into the USB port on my keyboard. Does anyone have the mouse yet and know how long the cord to the MM is? Will I be able to plug it into my iMac directly or will I have to dig the wired keyboard out of the closet? Thanks in advance!
    Daniel

I don't know about those that hates the Mighty Mouse, but I am loving mine every minute! Ever since I got it my left hand is taking on a long vacation, no longer I need to click and hold "Option" or "Command" key with my left fingers!! All I need to do is a Right Click, and Scroll, wow, scroll man with my middle right hand fingers... "Look Ma, One Hand!"
Yes but on the other hand I have to "sacrafice" my Wireless Mouse and keep it in "storage"... still not very use to the dangling cord after going Bluetooth for so long...
I think the cord length is about the same as the Pro Mouse, if you plug it directly behind the iMac G5 on a desk, you still have plenty of cord length to pull around, I still keep my wireless keyboard, that's why I didn't plug it into a keyboard, call me a neat freak but I can't reallt stand looking at one or two cords coming out of the keyboard and then go pass through the iMac's metallic stand, it is just "messy"... hee hee hee
Anyway, just like when the Pro Mouse first debut then later the wireless counter part, I am sure a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse is on its way...
    Cheers

  • Are there KM switches, not KVM? I need just mouse/keyboard switcher

I bought a $60 Belkin KVM, and it does not work with my Mac. I have a Quicksilver, and a newer PC. The PC works fine, the mac keyboard works on it, and the Kensington mouse works fine. I switch it to the mac, and it can see neither the keyboard or the mouse.
I left the VGA cables dangling, as my monitor has 2 inputs, which allows me to use the DVI on the mac, and the vga on the PC.
Do KVM switches HAVE to have the V part hooked up?
Has anyone seen a USB keyboard/mouse only switcher?

The switch should work without video. If the mouse and keyboard work when plugged into the Mac, but not through the switch, the switch, or the USB cable from the switch to the Mac, is bad. Try a different USB cable. If that doesn't help call Belkin.
You can buy USB only switches, such as
    <http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=120618#>
Be sure to get the right kind, one flat socket for the keyboard/mouse, and two square sockets, one for each computer.

    Any Thoughts

You can eject a CD in the drive at Startup my holding down the mouse button.
At the OS 9 desktop, the quickest way is to drag the Icon of the CD to the Trash. This is a shortcut for selecting the CD Icon, Choosing Eject off the File Menu (which used to leave a "ghost" image of the drive on the desktop) followed by dropping the "ghost" image of the drive into the Trash, since you are done with it.
