iPhoto, unfortunately, has some real problems in my opinion. Control over image placement and size is limited. This is compounded by the fact that Apple has not made the job any easier by refusing to publish information such as recommended aspect ratios and pixel sizes of images used to create a calendar. Obviously, these both change as the page layouts change. But, I don't think it is too much to ask that Apple supply image aspect ratios for each frame size, 2:3, 3:4, 1:1, or something else. What pixel sizes are required for each frame size/aspect? It is impossible to place 2 photos (or 1 photo and a name) on one date should 2 birthdays fall on one day.
Further, there is no recommendation for color space to be used by the printer.
I am tired of trying out a photo in the calendar only to find it looks bad at the pixel size and aspect I chose, then have to go back to the original, re-crop, resize, and wrestle with bringing it back to iPhoto. (I use Aperture to organize my images.)
I must also add that I had a very bad experience with an iPhoto book earlier this year. Don't know if Apple has fixed the problems as I refuse to invest another 20 hours of time and more then $150.00 to find out.
I am seriously looking for something to replace iPhoto (unless changes are made) to do the 10 or 15 calendars for my family again this year (and possibly redo my book).

Need an effect which I can't make

Hi everyone,
I trying to make an effect in my project but I can't do it. This effect is famous I think everybody has ever heard this kind of effect. Well I would like to make something like
"héééééééHHHHHHEEEEEE hey this dj"..... well lol... I hope you know what I'm talking about
it sounds like a reverse delay and then the sound comes... I hope I was clear ... if you know how to do this please tell me!!!

Hey noeq, I don't think that's exactly right, but maybe I've misunderstood the question. If it's what I think it is then I used to do this on my Fostex 8-track reel-to-reel: record the vocal, flip the tape, route the vocal track's output to the effects processor, apply delay, reverb, etc and record the effects output onto a different track. When you flip the track back you'd get "hey, hey, hey, HEY" fading in to the originally recorded vocal.
The way you described it (sorry if I misunderstood) it sounds like the "hey, hey, heys" would all be backwards.
The technique is the same with audio: take your audio region (or the segment, word, whatever you want reversing) and reverse that. Apply your delay, reverb, etc., and solo the output. Bounce that, then import the audio file and reverse it. You'll have to move the region so that the final "hey" lines up with the original "hey", then you should have the processed "heys" fading in.
Once again, sorry if I misunderstood max's question or noeq's response.

I'm running os 10.5.8 and want to upgrade to new mountain lion but need to first upgrade to 10.6.8. I downloaded that but got message saying i needed 10.6 first, which I can't seem to find anywhere. When i try Software Update from the apple menu, it says

When i try the Software update from my desktop apple menu, it says i already have the most redent software. I tried downloading 10.6.8 but when i tried to run it said i first need 10.6, which i can't seem to find anywhere on the Apple site or internet. Any suggestions? Can i somehow not upgrade form 10.5.8 to 10.6 or higher?

1. First of all create a master user based on which you can create multiple users.
2. when you are done with it export (by selecting the option at user creation) it.
3. you can see some text in a window copy it create a txt file with it, and add as many users as you want
by cpoy pasting the text multiple times and making necessary change as per the names etc...
4. save the txt file.
5. goto import option you were talking about and import the text file and update it.
6. As it gets updated you are done with the creation of multiples users.

You can enable tracing at multiple levels using the DBMS_MONITOR package. The following link shows how to enable session tracing: [Application Tracing Tools|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/sqltrace.htm#CHDFCGAE]
You can then use a tool like TKPROF or TRCSESS to aggregate the trace data into more readable files for analysis.

Creating a sub-bass (electronic music, house, techno)

Hi all, I don't mind if I need to get a plugin to do this but I'd love to be able to effectively make sub-basses in various forms.
Ones that rumble under the track/over the kick drum/replace the kick drum, ones that sound warm and melodic etc.
I doubt there are any hard and fast rules but any tips will be greatly appreciated. I was told that you can create a sub-bass by starting off with a sine wave then tapering off at the end... something like that! Not sure what instrument I would use etc.

That's not really a Sub Bass in that track (not in the classic sense). I'd argue it's actually a soft bass guitar of sorts played in the low range with a glissando which gives it that nice boooom sound.
And no, the Sub Bass plug in is not an instrument. You can only use it to add/enhance frequencies to other sounds.
The trick with proper sub-bass is to keep all frequencies around it clear so that it has room to breath... otherwise you're not going to hear it. Certainly compression will help too.
So in conclusion... if you want real sub (like classic jungle sound), then it typically is done with a simple sine wave (EXS24) and some shaping. But a similar though more rounded sound is still going to be bass instrument of sorts... depends what you have access to (there should be something in Logic though).

Creating A Sub-Mix?

I am pretty much a novice in Logic 7.I know that it is possible to create a submix(the same tracks in the song with a different master effect) of the current track that I am working on. This is my objective:
I have 4 vocal audio tracks and 8 Midi Instr. Tracks. I want my tracks in an 8 bar long low pass/next door sound type effect with Reason Flatblaster as the into and I want it to fade/or transition the same tracks into the original sound for the rest of the track. Is it possible to create a sub mix and not have to bus each track into the effect and automate the level of effect to transition. Also if i can create a sub mix, do i have to copy my original tracks and if so how do i do it?

Unless I need to save screen space or processing power, I will build a sub mix using the busses.
So I want to filter the drums, and automate the filter over time:
- Send the output of the drumtracks to stereo bus 1
- Add the filter plugin to the bus
- Add the bus to the arrange window
- Automate the plugin

I want to get a better perspective on my mix, it's all too much and I'm confused.
- Create 4 to 8 busses
- Assign the outputs of my various elements to stereo bus outputs
- - bus 1: drums
- - bus 2: bass
- - bus 3: atmosphere
- - bus 4: keyboad
- - bus 5: backing vocals
- - bus 6: lead vocals
- Mix the buses to get better imaging, and leveling.

How to create a Sub Menu?

I know it can be done. But just can't find how to do a
submenu that shows when you roll the mouse on main menu, and hides
if your mouse is anywhere else. I can imagine that I can create the
sub-menu with a movie clip symbol containing each command or choice
as a button. But waht I don't know it how to keep it hidden and to
make it only shown when you point the main menu that should
activate ths sub menu.

You can use click events on the main menu to trigger the
submenus and then use rollOver events to know which submenu to show
and which to make invisible.

Nesting is not subsequencing. Subsequences (within Avid) act the same way subclips behave within both Adobe Premiere and Avid Media Composer. My original questions was if Adobe Premiere allows your to make a subsequence - and after much discussion, no it does not.
The solution to subsequencing in Adobe Premiere:
I want to basically make a duplicate of my sequence but not of the whole sequence, only a small part.
To achieve this it's easier to mark IN and OUT on the part of the sequence you want and LIFT/EXTRACT/COPY and then create a new sequence and INSERT/OVERWITE/PASTE as Adobe Premiere stores all LIFTS/EXTRACTS in the clipboard (as does copy) into a new sequence.
Or as Jim stated above,
There's no direct analogy in PP, but you can load a Sequence into the Source Monitor and select portions of it that way. You can then add that portion to a new Sequence either as a single 'clip' (nested sequence), or retaining all the individual clips of the original.
