I need a zoom lens for shooting sports morning and night

I need someone to help me selecting a telephoto zoom that will help me to get sharp zoom images for football matches morning and night time. I have a Canon 50 D and normal Canon 55-250 IS zoom also I have Canon EF 50  f/1.8 II lens in addition to Canon EFS 18-55 lens.
I am not a professional photographer and would like to get one with a reasonable price

Because you will be shooting sports with a fast shutter speed to freeze the action, Image Stabilization is really not needed.
Using 2.8 instead of 4.0 will double your shutter speed from 1/250 to 1/500.
Buying used lenses can keep the price lower and the cheapest f/2.8 lenses are:
Sigma 50-150mm 2.8   $500 Used Sigma 50-150
Sigma 70-200mm 2.8   $512 Sigma 70-200 2.8
Canon 70-200mm 2.8   $1000 Canon 70-200 2.8 (non-IS)

  • Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR

Want to know if the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras will fit and work with the EOS Rebel XTi camera.

Absolutely. Just remember to learn how to hold all the extra weight steady when using it. Mine sees a lot of use, but it took a while to adjust to it's weight. .

  • Panasonic HFS014042 14-42mm Zoom lens for Panasonic GH4 and greenscreening in After EEfects

I'm going to be doing a weekly show out of a 20' long x 13' wide home studio, with greenscreen wall at far end, 2 people seated at a desk 10' feet into the room, and camera at the near end - with talent and green screen lit separately.  I'll be using Adobe Creative Suite CS6 for processing video, with After Effects for Keying out background, and Premiere as non linear editor.
I'll be using the Panasonic GH4 and have been looking for a lens that's not too expensive.
Anyone familiar with or have thoughts on this one (which goes for under $200 and has gotten good reviews even though it has a plastic mount as opposed to metal)

I've seen other lenses in the $400 range, which I would consider.
I think the $1000 ones are outside of my price range for now.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Which is the better lens for wildlife, sport action canon 70-200 is usm ii series L or Canon 100-400

Which would be a better for wildlife and sport action Canon 70-200  mm is usm ii serie L f/2.8 or Canon 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6?

On what camera? It makes a big difference depending upon whether you are using full frame or a crop camera.
Also depends upon the particular sports and type of wildlife most commonly involved, how much reach you might need.  Outdoor, daytime sports vs indoor and nightime sports is another key factor.
On a crop camera a 70-200 is generally a lot more usable than it is on full frame, for sports and wildlife. An f2.8 lens and 70-200 might be ideal for indoor sports even with a crop camera. It also might be plenty for large game that can be pretty closely approacted. But for small and more shy wildlife, sports on a  larger playing field, you'll more likely need the 100-400. But as an f4.5-5.6 lens that's going to be more of a daytime-only lens.
The 100-400mm is unusual in that it's a push/pull zoom. This can be particularly fast to use and makes the lens popular among photograhers shooting fast moving subjects such as birds in flight and air shows.
If you give serious consideration to the 70-200/2.8 IS II in combination with teleconverter EF 2X III, I'd suggest renting and trying them toghether first. The reason is that a stronger 2X teleconverter has more effect on image quality than a weaker TC. The specific combination of the 70-200 Mark II lens and the 2X Mark III TC is pretty darned good.... better than the combo earlier versions of each item.  But whether or not it's up to your expectastions is a judgment call only you can make. So it might be wise to rent before you buy, just to be sure.
If instead you start to take a hard look at the 100-400mm, once again you might want to rent it and give it a try. Some people really like the push/pull zoom design. Some don't. (I'm one of the latter...  but to be fair this is largely an old  prejudice from trying to use that type of zoom in the past, long before IS. I always found push-pull zooms hard to get a steady shot with.... But the 100-400's IS goes a long way toward solving that problem.)
And those two really aren't your only choices.
Personally I use a pair of crop cameras (7D), most of the time one fitted with a 70-200, and the other fitted with a 300/4 IS, sometimes in combination with an EF 1.4X II teleconverter. Or, when I don't need to be mobile and can set up a tripod, I'll use a 300/2.8 IS, both by itself and with EF 1.4X II or 2X II teleconverters.
Another possibility is two lower cost lenses... such as a 70-200/4 IS in combination with a third party lens such as the Sigma 120-400 OS or 150-500 OS. Those lenses are considerably less expensive than the 70-200/2.8 II and the 100-400, respectively. You might be able to afford both and still find they meet your needs very well.
I use the 70-200/4 IS, as well as a copy of the first version of the 70-200/2.8 IS, and they are excellent lenses too. No doubt about it, the 70-200/2.8 IS Mark II is top of the heap and exceptionally good... but rest assured those other 70-200s are no slouches.
If using a full frame camera, for large field sports and more distant, smaller wildlife.... better start saving up. You're going to need one or two of the super telephotos, such as the new EF 200-400/4L IS 1.4X that I'm saving up for!
p.s. By the way, if not already doing so you might want to try Back Button Focusing. It's a very popular technique among sports/action and wildlife photographers. I've been using it for years for virtually everything I shoot, and can't imagine using any other method now.

  • What's the best Telephoto Zoom lens for canon rebel T3??

Hi, i have a canon rebel t3 and i want a telephoto lens , but i don't know which lens to take between Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM and Canon EF-S IS 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II, I generally like to shoot street, abstract and nature photos and I'm not sure which lens is going to be more suitable to my needs...

    Vasanthkumar and Sami:
There are actually 3 lenses that are pretty similar in range and price:  the 55-250, the 70-300 and the 75-300.  Of the 3, the 75-300 is rated poorest quality.
Here is a tool that lets you compare image quality between 2 lenses.  You can even see them at different lengths and at different apertures.
    http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx
And here are reviews of all 3 lenses:
    http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-70-300mm-f-4-5.6-IS-USM-Lens-Review.aspx
    http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-75-300mm-f-4-5.6-III-USM-Lens-Review.aspx
    http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-S-55-250mm-f-4-5.6-IS-Lens-Review.aspx
Among the 3, I would choose the 70-300 IS.  It has Image Stabilization, and for the price it really has good image quality.
My 2nd choice would be the 55-250 IS.  Same reasons as above.  I actually owned this lens for a while, and it was indeed capable of taking a sharp picture.
I personally would not go with the 75-300.  No IS, for one thing.  More importantly, it is not very sharp according to reviews.  The small price savings vs. the 2 better lenses would not be worth it to me if all my photos suffered noticably.
To quote the review above on this lens, "If you care about great image quality and sharp photos, the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens is not for you. And Photoshop cannot enhance details that are not there."
    Good luck!

  • Zoom Lens for Pano PV-GS180

We are a middle school that does a lot of video. We use the Pano PV-GS65-180 series (inexpensive 3CCD) for everything. I am looking for an inexpensive zoom lens that will work ok in low light situations for filming the school play etc. Does not need to have a real powerful zoom, just a litte boost.
Thanks for your support and expert advice.

Keep in mind that a telephoto converter will not zoom. It merely multiplies the camera's own zoom power. Also note that some cameras may not focus well with a converter in front of the lens.
So, the auto focus may not work well? Hmm, perhaps someone at BandH photo would know. We always use either tripods or monopods for filming. I gave up on hand helds with 13 year old videographers!
I am assuming the "telephoto converter" comes in different strengths? I don't need much, just a little boost!
I guess I could go to manual focus? What we want to do is to put the three cameras at the back of the gym. One camera has a wide angle lens (if needed) and on the other two I want more zoom ability. Then, when we edit in FCP we can get better closeups of the band, school play etc. Right now we use monopods and go right up on the stage behind the curtains etc for closeups but we are sort of looking at the side instead a frontal view. Plus, using the monopod in this situation isn't as ideal as setting the camera on a tripod.
Just trying to take your average middle school video production above and beyond.

  • I Need an Oval Shape for a Sports Video

I'm editing a sports video, and would like to create an oval to place around the player in question so as to draw the viewer's eye to him. The oval will appear during a still frame, so I don't need it to be animated.
I know this should be fairly simple, but I'm stumped.
I'm using Premiere Pro CS4. Thank you.

Yes, Titler makes many things easy. Some just think of it for text, but it has some pretty neat Shapes too.
I'll usually open it up first, and if needed go to Photoshop for more intricate work, with maybe some preliminary work in Illustrator.
I also posted a screen-cap of the Titler panel, so you can see the particular Attributes that I used.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] I normally work with Show Video checked, but also know that I can fine-tune with Effects>Motion. You can also do work with other Effects, like Gaussian Blur, if needed. This is applied to the Title.

My printer doesnot work in the Apple envivorment with the driver I use for my windows computer and I can't find the correct driver on the site of Kyocera.

You could try using the Generic PostScript PPD wwhen adding the printer. If that doesn't work, you should probably contact Kyocera to see if they will support your printer.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to filter IN and OUT punch timings for Attendance in Day and Night shifts in oracle SP?

I am developing Attendance system which having day and night shift I am unable to filter the IN and OUT punches of the employees? below is my current logic
shift timings on 29-Jun-2013 IN 22:00 OUT 07:00 and on 30-Jun-2013 IN 15:00 OUT 22:30
I am filtering the IN and OUT punches based on shift timings and swipe time along with date, but when the employee changing from night shift to day shift I am getting problem.
the below is the one scenario
the employee : 101 has worked on 29-Jun-2013 on night shift punched at 22:00 and he left at next day means 30-Jun-2013 07:00 AM and again the same day (30-Jun-2013) he came to office at 15:00 on 30-Jun-2013 and he left at 22:30 on the same day now if the punches will come daily then there is no problem, however due to any problem punches are not received for 30-Jun-2013 07:00 AM then the punches IN 15:00 OUT 22:30 on 30-jun-2013 already in database now the out punch of 29-Jun-2013 is 30-Jun-2013 at 07:00 AM it is difficult to find this as previous day out punch
Note: some times the employees forgot to swipe IN/OUT punch
so if any body have solution please update

I would look for a "Super Zoom" by a third party manufacturer.  Pretty good summary here:
    http://www.techradar.com/us/news/photography-video-capture/cameras/best-superzoom-for-canon-dslrs-8-...
I'm assuming by 'a billion dollars' you actually mean quite a bit less, like sub $1000?.  There a much better lenses than those in the above article, but they start in the thousands.  The 100-400 is a solid lens with good range, but it's around $1500.

  • Telephoto zoom lens for T4i

Need to know telephoto zoom lenses compatible with T4i and best recommendation for close, sharp photos of wildlife and nature. Especially interested in birding.

You'll need to spend to get good results so PLEASE do your homework first. Popular Canon lenses are the 100-400 L IS, 400 f5.6L & 300 f4 L IS plus a 1.4 teleconverter (for times 300 is not enough), Sigma 50-500 OS & 150-500 OS. Next set of popular lenses are mucho $$$$ but get the job done better.

My app store does not let me download things , when I sghn in a black box appers , also does a iPad 1 3G need a sim card to download apps ?

You posted in the iPod Shuffle forum; it might be best to post in the iPad forum, as I was a bit confused at first. Anyway,
It doesn't need a SIM to download apps if you have Wi-Fi. Can you describe this box a little more, or better yet, screenshot it?
    Taking a Screenshot:
Quickly press then release the home and power buttons at the same time.
Get the photo on your computer and upload it here.
If you don't want to do this, can you describe it a little more? When you say "black box," I'm guessing it's an outlined box that appears around any item that you tap on. Is this correct? If so, it sounds like VoiceOver was enabled. See:
