  • NEW NICHE DEVICE NEEDED: a MINI sized monitor for  portbility!!

The first time I saw the Mini, in my mind I envisioned an entire desktop ensemble comprised of Mini sized gadgets- smaller sized keyboards, little mice, cute little USB HD's and yes an itty bitty sized flat screen monitor like those digi picture frames that everyone is making! This is the biggest no brainer solution which so far has escaped the entire industry!
The Mini, after all is no smaller and no more portable than the size of the largest periphrial device in the desktop system. The smallest monitor sold in any retail store is currently 17" diag. and what we need is half that size. Funny how everyone jumped on the Mac Mini fashion statement to make external drives and every other kind of USB periphrial device within the chassias size of the Mini which was smart niche marketing...except they neglected to exploit the ultimate ADVANTAGE the Mini could afford as being the smallest most power and capable desktop system. Perhaps Apple neglected to embellish this advantage in order to prevent the affordable Mini from hurting its laptop sales.Just a theory. But third party vendors have also ignored this obvious design advantage and have not given us any Mini sized keyboards and monitors.
Now we see so called Mac Mini-designed keyboards that are smaller than those huge surfboard sized ergonomic shaped padded boards that serve well as a desktop bed pillow and arm rest but these new keyboards are really just the old skool no-frills boards that are smaller than the new styled surfboard sized ones.
While I can carry my Mini +my 500Gb USB external drive +mouse +power adaptor inside a cute leather shaving kit bag, the modularity factor becomes a JOKE when I walk into a Starbucks or Public Library with a 22" Flat screen monitor under one arm and my little shaving bag in my hand!!I got yelled at by two fat ladies at the Library when after asking them if I can plug my Mini into their ac wall socket I went to my car and returned with my fullsized roller suitcase containing my shaving bag with Mini Plus my billboard sized flat screen monitor.
"We don't allow HUGE MAYFLOWER MOVING TRILER SIZED suitcases inside the Public Library ,sir!! YOU MUST LEAVE AT ONCE OR GET RID OF THAT SUITCASE!"
"But,madame sir, this is my Mac "MINI"..its mini mini mini mini OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE TWO ROLLER SUITCASES-One for my Mac Tower of Power and one for my billowing billboard sized monitor!!!!", I pleaded. Then I rolled my empty roller suitcase outside (its back-up beeper beeping as I carefully navigated through the metel detector gates.UuuuGhhhh
Watch...someone flunky engineer in some company somewhere will read this post and get a light bulb over his otherwise empty skull and get himself one huge promotion by sketching a new Mac Mini 10 " flatscreen monitor that sells cheap for $100! I'm here waiting with cash in hand...

Your assumption is that folks who need portability prefer to use a fragile battery powered toy with a PDA style rinky **** keypad with tiny trackball gizmo and that assumption is dead wrong. Proof lies in the keyboard/mice/periphrial device aisle of any computer store. You see tons of USB devices for laptops intended solely to provide desktop system features/capability that the laptop doesn't provide. An lets not forget to add the cost of repairing these fragile thin puters..replacing adaptor cords and battery packs etc . Soon you've got more $ tied up ina laptop than you ever intended.
Personally I've yet to meet ANY laptop user who LOVES the tricky pain in the a**
trackball navigation mechanism and compact PDA-like keypad. Everyone I know relies upon a USB mouse and most folks are plugging fullsize keybords into their slim fragile overpriced laptops because pecking on the rinky **** keypad toy greatly increases the risk of damaging or dropping the computer. ( They are merely trying to minimize the need to touch the machine as they work which is smart thinking ..its the desktop systems design strategy as well.
The machine itself need not be touched and so we use wireless or USB periphrial devices . The Mini therefore is classified as a desktop but by definition "desktop system "does not preclude the need nor capability for modular portability and besides the MAC MINI IS BY FAR MORE DURABLE AND IMPACT RESISTANT THAN ANY LAPTOP so there goes your premis out the window.
I'll bet you one dozen ac powered laptop chiller pads, two sticks of DDR RAM and five laptop replacement power adaptors/battery chargers ('cause you laptop users seem to go through these pricey adaptors/cords faster than alkaline
batteries in a boombox at a beach bikini contest!) that if you displayed a Mac Mini with a small 10"screen sitting beside it and full size keyboard/mouse priced for $850 in the Apple store laptop sales would puke.
There's no debate that when you need thin notebook sized
modularity and battery pwr the laptop is the only solution.
I've not been hampered by the lack of battery powerpack just the lack of
    a small monitor.

  • Scanner for photos

I'm looking for some scanner recommendations to research specifically for photo. I don't have slides or negatives just a lot of 4x6 photographs I want to scan to create digital archives that I'll keep in Aperture.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

Just about any scanner will do an okay job of 4x6 prints. If you want something to do a great job and have the flexibility of doing negs/positives down the road the epson v700 is nice for a reasonable prices as well as the Microtek i800/i900 on the used market - dirt cheap.
If you have an all-in-one HP or Canon or Epson try it and see what you don't like about it before putting out dollars on a dedicated scanner.

  • Need to have a webpage for my book, recommendations on where?

My book has been very recently put up on iTunes...looking for information on webpages.
Any recommendations on where to setup a webpage?

Okay, I will do my best to explain a little more...although the information you have given is helpful.
I am looking for a place to setup a webpage...I have never had a webpage and I am learning about how to go about the process.  Is it necessary to have a domain?  Or can I do everything I need to with a free webpage like through Yahoo?
thank you for any help you can give...

  • Need external hard drive ....any recommendations?

I have two internal hard drives (one just for movies = 250 gyg drive) which is almost full.
Need to get an exernal drive what is recommended. Any experience with the 800 external drive? What about capacity? are those big ones noisy? Is having 2 better than one large one?
    Thanks,

I have quite a few Lacie HDs and they all operate flawlessly. I am sold on them. Tom Wolsky has always recommended Weibetec drives. I don't believe you would go wrong with either one. For what it's worth, I'm not high on Maxtors and most non-brandeds ... experienced too many quirky problems.
Some cameras don't like other devices on the same FW bus at the same time, whether or not they are daisychained. Canons in particular have been prone to wanting to be the only device on the FW bus, but I have also seen the problem with certain models in other manufacturers lines. Only thing you can do is test it with your specific camera.

    Google is your friend.
I got a bunch of hits on +portable monitors+, however I have used these folks for personal projects before: lilliput
Folks started using these things in car installations of home computers, and a niche market for folks that want portable monitors was born.

I am looking for printer/scanner that can do this with great quality, and also be able to print onto printable DVD's.
    Any suggestions?

  • Need help with adjusting size for photos in my website

Wow it's super to know about adobe forum which i never thought existed, i have been to the adobe site several times befor but never noticed there is a forum
Ok i have few issues would like some help if possible.
I have a website for public holidays and festivals and i have been really stressed in the ways i am adding the photos which i am buying from fotolia. First in my featured images the screen is very wide and slim...so i am really having hard time with adjusting the photos so they would fit in a way and show the best part of the photo in the screen, once the featured image is clicked on then their is no problem since it opens up in the full size. Is their a speacial tool in adope (i have cs4) which deals with images in this aspect? Secondly, before i was downloading the image with the regular size in which i bought them (around 3000 px) but that significantly slowed my webiste and i had to resize them into around 500 px, but now the image is small. what is the way around that, is there a feature where i can keep the photo big size with high resolution and little px. I see many big nice resolution photos but very small in size. i have just purchased a lot of photos that i would be posting soon and would like to do them right from the start.
I don't know if i explain the situation right in words but you can take a look here, most photos for the posts are on the main page, please take a look and tell me how i should revise or make better for my photos in the featured images.
I have very little experiance in photoshop so i made a very simple logo, but is there a tool that is speacialy designed to help make it easy doing a professional logo?
Any comments, hints or help would be highly appreciated
Hmmm one more thing....how do i add a pic for my profile? i don't see anywhere i can do so

You should use the crop tool to crop your images. You should never squish your images, it really looks unprofessional:
For your problem with saving images, you can optimize your images for web using the "Save for Web…" menu option:
Make sure that you save your images at the dimension that you want them to display on your website (It looks like all your images in the blog are 620px wide, go with that).
As for your logo, you can make them in Photoshop or Illustrator, but I would reccomend making yours in the latter. Here are some tutorials on logo creation: http://ibrandstudio.com/tutorials/46-adobe-illustrator-tutorials-logo-design

  • From the icloud control panel I am unable to check the box for photos, any idea why i cant?

Can anyone help, please.  I never had this problem before but now I can not check the photos box on the icloud control box...its the faded gray area and I can't select that option.

What worked for me and others was to uninstall icloud, restart pc and reinstall icloud.

  • I need a 2 TB or 3TB drive–any recommendations?

Oh, yeah, I don't want to spend a fortune, but do want a reliable drive. I'd prefer a 3T, one w/FW 800; it must also be bootable.
Seagate's 3TB FreeAgent GoFlex Desk for Mac Drive at $259 looks promising (I have an older Seagate drive that's worked well, it's just too small for Time Machine use).
But I know there's many more not on the Apple store.
I am a very busy amateur photographer, and though I try to be ruthless in deleting shots I won't ever want/use, my storage needs tend to the large side! This one will be strictly used for Time Machine; I'll use my others for archiving or as a boot drive w/Carbon Copy Cloner.
Thanks for any insights, thoughts or recommendations!

  • I need some help on ACS for a programmers

    Hi all,
Kindly I need someone to guide me how to get the below information for our programmers, our company now they need to integrate our billing system
With ACS which already running. the setup running is :
We have cisco Access points managed by Access controllers with two SSIDs ( USERS , GUESTS ) and the access controller is configured as Client on ACS.
We need to make new setup for Guests, any Guest want to access to Guest wireless network (SSID: GUESTS) I need to create the account on Billing system, our programmers asking me to provide them the DB structure of ACS 5.0 and all information needs for integration between the billing system and the ACS.
Note: we already have another SSID (USERS) for company users and it is running fine and accounts managed directy by ACS ( no need to change the setup).
Goals: The billing system will create the Guest accounts and the account information to be automaticly added to our ACS.
I realy don't know more about ACS and this requirements.
Anyone can help me to acheive this goals.
    Regards

    Jack:
Yes you can any program to do tasks with ACS.
    Look into this:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_system/5.3/sdk/cli_imp_exp.html
There seems no developer's guide for ACS 5.0. I think you have to upgrde anyway preferably to 5.3 or 5.4.

  • I need to get a new printer/photo scanner for my new Mac. Any recommendations?

I need a new printer for my Mac. Also want to scan old photos and slides. Any recommendations?

You really need to determine what the priorities are. For example, scanning slides is not something you're going to be able to do with a multifunction printer.
It might be to your benefit to cost out dedicated printers and scanner. Then you don't need to compromise one thing for an other.
