I need an iWeb alternative

So since iweb and mobile me are being discontinued I need a new alternative. Does anyone know a website builder that works like iweb? With the same building style. Also is it possibe to transfer my iweb file to the new website builder so I don't have to start over. I have put a lot of time and hard work into my website and I don't want to try to remake it. I have a godaddy domain so would I use godaddy to publish my site? Or is there something better?
My site is: http://www.josephtubb.com
Thanks

It really depends on what type of website you have.
iWeb and similar apps are probably OK for the "standard" website with text and images. If your website includes other media such as movies and music, you need to work a little harder. Displaying these using the QuickTime plugin was never the answer and, nowadays, neither is flash. YouTube (and its far superior rival Vimeo) seems to be the easy answer and, it probably is if you want your site to look like a zillion others.
Online site builders, like the much touted Weebly, don't provide the answer either. Weebly uses the standalone version of the Wordpress mp3 player and an ancient version of the JWLongtail video player. Both are way out of date and won't function on most portable devices. Far from being free, except in their most mundane form, this method of site creation is a lot less versatile than using applications such as iWeb and will end up a lot more costly in the long run.
A lot of the emails I get are from musicians who use HostBaby wanting to change to iWeb. The main reasons being the high cost of a HostBaby site and the lack of ability to produce a unique design.
Having looked "under the hood" of some of the designs that claim to be suitable for all devices, I'm not impressed. On the other hand, if you create a version of your site suitable for cell phones using the available online resources, your going to have to accept their almost non existent ability to play media.
Right now, I wouldn't recommend any direct replacement for iWeb. As I mentioned previously, why replace iWeb with something that's equally redundant such as SandVox and RapidWeaver or the hopelessly antiquated Freeway? Ask your self why Apple is quitting on iWeb. It would make an interesting topic in this forum!
Making the move to code entry style software is not as difficult as it appears to be. Most of the so called professional designs out there are built from "templates" in the form of stock CSS stylesheets. Modifying them is a no brainer compared with trying to produce a template for an app like iWeb. Most of the code entry style software is WYSIWYG and, the better ones, show the changes in real time.
If you want to stick with drag and drop, you'll need to wait for the next big thing. You don't need to change but the problem is that standing still is equivalent to going backwards!

  • I need to send alternative content to ff 3.1 and under

    Hi, I am running slidedeck (slidedeck.com, jquery plugin) which doesnt support ff 3.1 and under.
    I can serve alternative content to IE6 with a conditional comment, but how can I sniff for the relevant gecko version and redirect to a different page? I understand we are talking about maybe 2.5% of users (which for us is still enough to warrant making sure the page doesnt break horribly for those users!)
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I built a website that uses slidedeck.com

    It is usually best to check for the existence (support) for specific features and not for a specific browser.
    Other browsers may use the same Gecko version and you can't test for every version.
    Do you have a problem with CSS or with JavaScript?

  • IWeb Alternative

    I am totally confused and overwhelmed by everything I'm reading.
    I am a teacher currently using iWeb to design my classroom website. It consists mostly of graphic links to either other pages or websites. It is also currently hosted on MobileMe. I like the design capabilities of iWeb as opposed to Google Sites and Weebly. It's simple but has great capabilities. I also like being able to place anything, anywhere on the page instead of having to choose between simply stacking elements or just a 2 column layout as on Weebly. That being said, I understand that iWeb might not be supported for too much longer and I need to find a way to host whatever design application I use. So friends, keep it simple for me please, and give me your suggestions.
    Thank you!

    Sheri ~ Weebly has always allowed more 1-2 column elements to be dragged into 1-2 column elements — effectively allowing unlimited columns. And recently Weebly has made multiple columns clearer & easier — see this blog post:
    Announcing Multiple Columns
    ...Although even with that improvement, Weebly may still not offer as flexible a layout as you would like. But for those who value the ability to update their site from any Mac or PC, along with collaborative website editing and a content management system, Weebly is worth considering.

  • Iweb alternatives without mobileme

    Does anyone have suggestions on where to publish iweb sites now that mobileme is closed?

    You will need to find a 3rd party web host to upload your website to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
    iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder
    iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
    I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • Help needed with iWeb- setting up Blog page

    I have set up a website including a "blog" page using iWeb.  I see that viewers can "subscribe" to the blog- but when I click on the subscribe button- I get an error message.  What do I need to do so viewers can subscribe to my blog?

    Since you do not provide factual information it is difficult to guess.
    Where is the blog? And what is the message?
    Anyway, let me guess. Your URL has no sitename in it.
    If so, the rss feed links are broken.

  • I need to create alternative library in Itunes

    I am going to create an alternative library in itunes and then i want to dump it. How do I get rid of it...I am using 10.6.8 imac.

    Hello heidismiles
    Once you have created your new iTunes library, go to the Music folder and drag the old one to the trash. Make sure to verify that you have the right iTunes library working. Once verified, you can empty the trash.

  • Help needed re iWeb

    My one year old iMac crashed on Friday and I couldn't restart it. It is with Apple care in Bangkok and they diagnosed the hard drive as the problem. They may be able to retrieve some of my 250 GB but it's not sure, and install a new hard drive.
    I am not only worried about all the photos and video I lost but also about my iWeb sites. I have a number of them published for myself and on behalf of friends.
    Does anyone know whether there is a way to retrieve the site folder and how then if it was, do i get it to go back into iWeb when I get my computer back next week.?
    I have tried going round in circles to fins a contact email for Apple iWeb support but can't find anything. Does anyone have one for me?
    My data was back-up on an external hard drive which packed just befote this crash. I lost a years work. I am going back to save on cd as I go.

  • Need to know alternative country Key and Vehicle country Key

    Hi Experts,
    I am defining new country codes in SAP ECC and GTS System. Can someone help me to find out Alternative country key and Vehicle country key for the below mentioned country Codes.
    AX
    Åland Islands
    GG
    Guernsey
    IM
    Isle Of Man
    JE
    Jersey
    PS
    Palestinian Territory, Occupied
    TL
    Timor-Leste
    Please assist me in this regard as this is very urgent.
    Thank you
    Vinod Kakarla

    Hi,
    Use Tcode - VI78 to find alternative country key
    T coe - OY01 for vehicle country key
    001 (European standard formatting), 002 (Italy), 011 (Switzerland) and 014 (Austria) use the vehicle country key of the relevant country. If no vehicle country key has been maintained in Customizing, the country key of table T005 is used instead. If, for the sender country, the indicator for printing the country name in foreign addresses is set in table T005 , the system does not use the country key, but generally prints the country name in the last address line. Check the sap Note: 1509425.

  • Rapidweaver good iWeb alternative?

    Am very frustrated with iWeb '08 problems - both my new iMac and old MBP have problems whereby it won't show the full site with loads of photos no longer loading. It says there are fonts missing - but doesn't give a solution. So, does anyone use Rapidweaver instead? It looks similar and does similar things - though perhaps without the inability to function properly. Any thoughts?

    Hi, I have just finished this website using Rapidweaver. I bought it and I have been working with it during the summer.
    It's nice but I don't like the use of the images. Iweb is more powerfull. This is the web:
    http://yakunchikova.com
    You can see it rigth in all the brosers. For example, with iweb I have a lot of problems with the menus in diferent browsers.

  • IWeb alternative without learning HTML

    I already have a website that I built in Yahoo's Sitebuilder but I hate going to the old PC to update my site. What is the best program to use that will allow me to import the HTML files and edit them without having to learn code?

    I'm just familarizing myself with a new app to see if it's suitable for someone with absolute no knowledge at all.
    What about Goldfish? It's for Mac and Win alike.
    http://www.fishbeam.com/en/goldfish/
    Comes with templates, and you can create websites faster than iWeb. It even has a FTP client build in.
    I use the demo, so some features aren't available, such as publishing. But that didn't prevent me from publishing the sites anyway. You can save your work and create templates you can use again.
    Here's are some new-click-publish default templates for your delight:
    http://home.kpn.nl/wyodor/Goldfish_City/
    http://home.kpn.nl/wyodor/Goldfish_Book/
    http://home.kpn.nl/wyodor/Goldfish_DarkPlastic/
    I also use templates by [Free CSS Templates|http://www.freecsstemplates.org>
    I intend to use them to create templates in Goldfish (and iWeb). But that is a tedious task with a lot of checking to do. But it can be done. One site, not on display, took me about 2 hours to prepare.
    Here's the [Lotus flower template|http://www.freecsstemplates.org/templates/previews/lotusflower> done in iWeb:

    Patrick ~ You drag an image of a small flag to your iWeb page and then open the +Inspector > Link+ tab and set up a hyperlink to the appropriate translated version of that page. (Then repeat that for each flag/page.)

  • Do I need Adobe Reader & alternative browsers?

    Hello!
    I'm relatively new to the world of Mac and am delighted so far.
    However, I've tried downloading a bill from an energy supplier's site (Powergen) and it opens a window then says "we could not access your bill." I've tried on various occasions - same result. It may be the site is having problems; maybe it doesn't recognise Safari (although other areas of 'online account management' seem OK). Also, I tried downloading a document from the British Gas site and it told me I need Adobe Reader. On other sites (so far) PDF-style docs load into Safari's reader with no probs.
    Basically, do I need Adobe Reader? Should I try Debug? (where Safari 'pretends' to be IE), and/or should I try different browsers? In my Windows days I used Firefox, although I gather Camino is more 'purpose built' for the Mac. Is this the case?
    Many thanks for any advice offered.

    Hello Ast. A. Moore, thanks for replying.
    I can't provide a link to the Powergen bill page exactly as that is part of the 'security log-in' section.
    The British Gas page, however, appears below. I'm sorry about the length of the url but I haven't yet figured out how to make a proper clickable link here.
    If you paste the below into your browser and go to this page on their site, then click on the sentence 'British and Scottish Gas Prices' in blue down the page hopefully it will then try to get you their price list. It was at this point I got the 'Acrobat Reader required' message in a new window.
    link
    I hope the above is useful; and thanks for your help.

  • Need advice on alternatives to building a system

    My PowerPC Mac FCP/6 system is nearing its end of life, and so I’m moving to a PC and Premiere.  I don’t have the time or skill to build a system from scratch, and though I know I’ll pay more than doing it myself, the cost/benefit is acceptible.  I have a lot of gear that can move over, including a Kona LHe for HD/SDI out, plus dual monitors, numerous drives and other peripherals, etc.
    In terms of the type of work I do, it’s usually light on motion graphics, but I do transcode and grade regularly.
    I’ve looked at the HPZ400 workstations, just wondering if this is the best route to go, or if there are other more cost effective towers I should be looking at?  I’ve seen a couple of towers I could pick up at newegg and add a quadro 4000 to, but don’t really feel like I know enough to pull the trigger on one. I see that the conversations here are predominantly build-oriented, but hopefully someone can offer up some direction, which would be much appreciated.

  • Need ideas for alternative to JavaScript for comparing two inputText values

    Hello
    I am currently using the JavaScript method to check if the values of two inputText components are equal.
    If the values are not equal an alert box is displayed. In either case the action on the bean is performed and in the action method the two bean property values are compared again, if they don't match the action returns null and the for is redisplayed.
    I don't like this method because:
    A) it seems long winded and wasteful
    B) the JavaScript dialog box is out of character with the rest of the form, where validation errors are returned as messages next to the offending component.
    On one of the inputText components I already do a custom validation to check that the input value is a valid javax.mail.internet.InternetAddress.
    Does anyone know of any other method ideas, perhaps using Value Change Events that will allow a message to be written against the second inputText component if the two values did not match, and which could be done before the Invoke Application event. I have tried something along these lines but have failed.
    Many thanks in advance...

    If you can use a custom tag for the validator instead of the standard f:validator tag,
    there is a better way:
    The custom tag has an attribute , eg. "forId", to specify the ID of another component.
    Then, your validator can use the attribute for the parameter of findComponent().
    Something like:
    YourValidatorTagHandler.java
         protected Validator createValidator() throws JspException {
              YourValidator val = (YourValidator)super.createValidator();
              val.setForId(forId);
              return val;
    YourValidator.java
         public void setForId(String f) {
              forId = f;
         public void validate(
              FacesContext context,
              UIComponent component,
              Object value)
              throws ValidatorException {
                   int i1;
                   int i2;
                   try {
                        i1 = ((Integer) value).intValue();
                        UIComponent comp = component.findComponent(forId);
                        String val = (String)((UIInput)comp).getSubmittedValue();
                        i2 = Integer.parseInt(val);
                   } catch (RuntimeException e) {
                        FacesMessage msg = new FacesMessage(e.getMessage());
                        throw new ValidatorException(msg);
                   if (i1 != i2) {
                        FacesMessage msg = new FacesMessage("Error");
                        throw new ValidatorException(msg);
         }
