I need an opinion, now that I have a 500GB TC...I hope someone reads this
So originally I asked for just a plain ole external hard drive for Christmas for my 3 year old PowerBook G4 laptop. Then I started doing some research, cuz I kinda realized I wanted something wireless so that I didn't have to go through the hassle of unplugging it every time I needed to take my laptop away from my house. Currently this is how I run things....I have lots of music and that's what's taking up the majority of my internal HD space. I do a little freelance design and am also a photographer. I have, for the time being, a small external hard drive that holds my files (design work, photos, etc). I have very little files that I update on my internal HD (like I said, it's mainly music). I have an iPod that most of the music on my laptop is on (I don't keep it synced, honestly that's not really a worry for me). So when I started looking into my options, I read about the Time Capsule. Of course the opinions on the Apple Store site were mixed, but it still sounded good, so I asked for one and got it. I like that it worked wirelessly, worked with Time Machine (which has gone unused since I upgraded to Leopard last Christmas), and according to Apple I could also use it as an external HD. Now that I am reading the TC forum (after having initial problems with the TC, which required the TC to be exchanged for a new one on Monday) I really do not know what to do with it. I am reading that if you do use it as both a backup system AND external HD it gets a little "tempermental." Some people have lost all backups and files due to inexplicable disc errors and such. I have read that you can hook up an external HD through USB to the TC and access it wirelessly and put your iTunes library and music on that external HD, but then it won't be backed up. Like I said at this time, I work on files by getting the files I work on off of my small external (which is filing up fast) work on them, and then save them back on the external....Ok now I'm rambling a bit...My question is
Should I just use the TC as an external HD or use it to back up and get another external HD to connect to that....Then I can't attach a printer to the TC via USB....AHHHH too many options...What would you do??
Just thought I'd throw my thoughts into the mix, although essentially I agree with VA2020. I have similar requirements for my set up: I have a laptop, which I keep my current working files on and therefore want to have backed up regularly (by Time Machine). However, I also want to be able to play my iTunes library at home, from wherever I happen to be. So I have a Time Capsule for backing up, with an external 500GB HDD (connected to that via USB) which I use as a music and image server. I also got a wireless combo-printer to take that issue out of the equation; and to make sure my music/images are backed up, I actually use the free Back Up software you get with a MobileMe account, scheduled to back up at suitable intervals via firewire to yet another 500GB HDD (these back ups are weekly/monthly, so it's not a big deal to hook up the laptop just at those times).
I am also planning to use SuperDuper to backup the entire laptop system (I leave out apps, system files etc from the TM back ups so it's quicker) so I can restore in case of a total OS failure. This might seem like overkill, but this way I would have everything backed up, but with the ability to pick and choose what I want to recover. And although it seems complicated, once set up and scheduled, it all works with very little thought on my part. I admit TC has many glitches, but I still love the wireless backup.

I just want to authorize my HP laptop now that I have installed iTunes on it. My purchased products pop up from the iTunes store, but I cannot download because it says computer must be authorized. Then it gives no direction about how to do that.
Press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

I purchased a program for my business, and it is intended for Apple. however the program has since told me to enter a registration number (which I did not receive upon purchase, shame on MTSO in Edmonton) and it wouldn't accept anything. so I want to uninstall the program so I can reload it again entering the registration number that has since been given to me. hoping this will work, otherwise will have to find a new Massage Therapist office program.
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

AlbertanWenchFirst see if it has an uninstaller. If not, delete the app and do a Spotlight search on the name of the program and delete any preferences it may have set. Look for any files bearing it's name or the name of the company that created it and delete those. This is one area where Windows often is better than mac os where uninstalling programs is typically easier within windows.

I will be purchasing a new iPhone in the next week or so if my old iPhone doesn't show up, so I don't want to completely delete my stolen phone off of my account just in case someone decides to return it. Is this a problem with apple, blackberry, or my carrier?

My time machine backup disc has apps from Mountain Lion that won't open now that I have Yosemite. They all say need to be upgraded to Yosemite. Go to app store. But app store sees that I have yosemite so doesn't even show me an udate option. How can Update these files??
How do you know they won't run in Yosemite? You're not trying to fiddle with stuff in your backup from the Finder, are you? If so you are likely to render that backup unusable.
WHen when you restore them from your backup, they should be updateable. -

Thanks!This comment applies to malicious software ("malware") that's installed unwittingly by the victim of a network attack. It does not apply to software, such as keystroke loggers, that may be installed deliberately by an attacker who has hands-on access to the victim's computer. That threat is in a different category, and there's no easy way to defend against it. If you have reason to suspect that you're the target of such an attack, you need expert help.
All versions of OS X since 10.6.7 have been able to detect known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware. Starting with OS X 10.7.5, there is another layer of built-in malware protection, designated "Gatekeeper" by Apple. By default, applications that are downloaded from the network will only run if they're digitally signed by a developer with a certificate issued by Apple. Applications certified in this way haven't actually been tested by Apple (unless they come from the Mac App Store), but you can be sure that they haven't been modified by anyone other than the developer, and his identity is known, so he could be held responsible if he knowingly released malware. For most practical purposes, applications recognized by Gatekeeper as signed can be considered safe. Note, however, that there are some caveats concerning Gatekeeper:
It can be disabled or overridden by the user.
It can be bypassed by some third-party networking software, such as BitTorrent clients and Java applets (see below.)
It only applies to applications downloaded from the network. Software installed from a CD or other media is not checked.
For more information about Gatekeeper, see this Apple Support article. Notwithstanding the above, the most effective defense against malware attacks is your own intelligence. All known malware on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "trojan horses," which can only have an effect if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown one, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim. [Some reputable websites did legitimately warn users who were infected with the "DNSChanger" malware. That exception to this rule no longer applies.]
“Cracked” copies of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Java on the network (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related) is always a potential weak spot in the security of any operating system. If a Java web plugin is not installed, don't install it unless you really need it. If it is installed, you should disable it (not JavaScript) in your web browsers. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those obsolete versions has known security flaws that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. The flaws will never be fixed. Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java can never be fully trusted, even if no vulnerabilities are publicly known at the moment.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else.
Why shouldn't you use commercial "anti-virus" products?
Their design is predicated on the nonexistent threat that malware may be injected at any time, anywhere in the filesystem. Malware gets into the system by being downloaded, not by materializing from nowhere.
In order to meet that nonexistent threat, the software duplicates low-level functions of the operating system, which is a waste of resources and a common cause of instability and poor performance.
By modifying the system at a low level, the software itself may create vulnerabilities that could be exploited by malware attackers.
ClamXav doesn't have these drawbacks. -
Now that I have upgraded to iOS 7, how can I make it so that I don't need a password every time I use my iPad?
In v6 airport utility "Join a wireless network" is not available once the TC is setup.
You must reset to factory and try again using the selection options.. and it can fail or not come up.. This is an extremely poor way to setup a TC.. and you should NEVER EVER DO IT.. that is why apple removed it. Since you are joining wireless it makes no difference where the TC is located.. since it would become a dumb AP and turn off its ethernet ports.
Place it right next to your main modem router, plug in by ethernet, and select bridge mode and create a wireless network. Never use Join a wireless network..
However for completeness here is the method.

If you need internet by wireless and backup to the TC.. then simply plug the TC directly into the Mac.

Depends. If an application updates their software with the 10.8 API for notifications then no, but if an application you're using doesn't update to use the built in system in ML then yeah.

Now that I have a Score of 828...
I have reached a magical plateau of 825+. I realize that the perfect score of 850 is a myth and overall 825 is in reality about as high as most folks can go. My question is now that I'm a platinum credit risk what benefits do I have? I see no advantage in rates of a score above 775 and I'm not currently in the market for a home or car. I don't receive any solocitations (a good thing), but at the same time I'm curious if you folks sell or give out the list of 800+ clients for premium offers. I guess now that I have perfect credit I'd like to be rewarded in the manner of a limited amount of special offers, free trips to timesharing ect. Please LMK your opinion. From my perspective, I was so utterly ashamed of my credit rating, being denied for just about anything in the card world, running to rescue losing my home and no lender would touch me in default, that I made it a discipline to get out of this mess. Needless to say, today, with my scores, I do not need the credit anymore, but I have restored my pride and confirmation, that I am worth something in the credit universe.

How can I Migrate/Split itunes/icloud account for a large family now that they have family sharing
Ok, now that Apple has finally come out with family sharing I need to get things sorted out and I think it is going to be a mess. I have 6 family members (my spouse and 4 children) all sharing/using one itunes account. For parental reasons this made perfect sense. Now with the the advent of family sharing and such we have alot of sorting and migrating to do and I am very unsure how to go about it. Here is what we have.
Myself - I have a 64GB iPad 3 and a 64GB iPhone 5
Spouse - 64GB iPhone 5
Children - x4 16GB iPhone 5C (pink, blue, green, and a yellow)
We have had one itunes account now for several years, we used to have x4 16GB iphone 4's and a 16GB iPod touch 4 so we needed it to be shared at the time. We all have different Game Center ID's and Facetime/iMessages are all setup to the phone numbers (aside from mine which also uses the itunes e-mail). We currently have 1 upgraded icloud account with 200GB of storage on it (love the new tiers). So here are the questions.
1) How do I go about using and isolating all the devices so they can all use the iCloud storage? Right now if I try and setup backups by device under the what to backup there is no simple "Full Backup" option, they have all the categories separated. I cannot backup my daughters contacts without forcing a merging of them and so on. Same thing with Documents and Data. Would I need to setup a different iCloud account for each device now?
2) iTunes Music/App purchases. Now that they have a family sharing function I am assuming it would be a good time to separate all the devices (aside from my personal iPad/iPhone). If I understand correctly we need to setup a new itunes account for each and link them with family sharing, does this then allow us to disperse/move items from a singular to the multiple account (at least a one time option to move around) or would it simply be shared off the original account? My daughter for example will be 18 next summer and as such no longer under our care. How do we move her items to her account? She has a lot of purchased Music. Now keep in mind I am talking about an account for someone who was 12 when she had her first device and as such needed to be under her parents.
I just want to state that repurchasing things is NOT an option, and to be frank, according to Canadian laws pertaining to *licensing* we actually own the product if we paid for it and have the right to transfer the ownership thereof. This issue went through the courts regarding used copies of OEM editions of Microsoft Windows several years ago and they closed the legal *license* vs ownership separation.Go to appleid.apple.com to manage the ID, sign in and select to the Name, ID and Email Addresses section, then change the birth date on the bottom right. At the present time you may not be able to enter the correct birth date, but others have had success changing the year to 2000, or the date to 1/1/2001, both of which will have child ID status.

So a while back i had got my iphone taken away and now that i have it back i cant remember the passcode and have disabled it now that im trying to sync with itunes for the first time ever and im trying to erase the iphone i am not able to because my iphone is off line and there no way for me to get in turn the wifi on because im locked out.PLEASE HELP ME
Ok, so just put into DFU Mode and connect it to your computer. Open Itunes an it will say that you need to restore. Click ok then follow the instructions.

I think you assume I will go away after being Ignored. No I will not go away. I find now that you have DISABLED MY APPLE ID. Is this a punishment you use to anyone who takes up a stand against charges being made unauthorised on their account?. Please tell me why you have disabled my account. When will my account be restored? If not when will you refund ALL my purchases made to APPLE/ITUNES? I can then move on to another brand and hopefully better customer service. After reading articles regarding APPLE ID DISABLED it appears common practice from your company to DISABLE anyone's account if they question unknown charges. I have a G5 which I intend to keep.

I have the last itunes 10.6.3. which was supported by apple.
itunes will not interact with my iphone on any level.

Regarding iOS 7.0 you have totally lost the plot.
We buy apple why?
Quality.
Intuitive interface.
Stable software.
Design.
All that Steve Jobs consider sacrosanct.
Quality is about ongoing support longevity of product.
Its not about trying to sell to every person on the planet, others are way ahead of you.
So try respective the customers you have, it wont be long before theirs a better operating system and your lead in hardware is marginal.

The graphics looks like it was designed by a artistically challenged mongoose and the operating system is not intuitive something apple users expect.
