I need cleaner, drier air for my iMac

My 27 inch iMac and I live in tropical Mexico.  This is a high heat, high humidity area, made even more hostile to electronics because we live ocean front.  Our air has a high salt content.  I have lost two iMacs to this environment.  The last lost was very young, well within Apple's warranty, but all is void if the internal sensors turn red, indicating condensed liquid.
Often, when I start up my newest iMac, I can see that the inside of the screen is fogged.  This eventually defogs but obviously, my machine is wet inside and probably not long for this world.  (A crusted up, damaged power supply has been the diagnosed problem previously.  Too expensive to fix.)
Can someone tell me please, which vents suck air and which expel?
I know that if I attach something to blow cleaner, drier air into my iMac, I will wind up with something clunky looking, but I cannot afford to replace these iMacs every 9 or so months.
For starters, I have bought a large canister of desiccant.  I am not sure how it might be of use... Actually, I am totally unsure of how to proceed.
Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.
Tom

I apologize if I seemed to shout down the AC option, which is definitely a more complete solution.  And losing $2000 of computers due to cheaping-out on the environmental solution is not wise.
I just thought that if the device needs to run 24/7, lower power draw in a dehumidifier may still do enough, especially if there is already central AC that just needs help.
But I live in only semi-humid Ohio, so I am probably completely out of my depth.

Call the apple store you got it from and ask them. Sometimes in the past they've extended the 'no questions asked return' but only Apple can tell you for sure.

  • Need to Uninstall AIR on Old iMac running Tiger

    Please ! Help me!
I'm on an iMac 5,1 running OS 10.4.11
I had a HD crash earlier this week and am running from my External backup HD.  I bought a second ext. HD and need to backup to that to protect everything.  I spent 10 hours copying to the new HD only to have it fail because of AIR with this message :
    | 08:34:39 AM | Error | ditto: /Library/Frameworks/Adobe AIR.framework/Versions/1.0/Resources/it.lproj/AuthDialog.nib/./keyedobjects.nib: Input/output error
I need to UNINSTALL AIR from my Ext HD - the version I have of AIR is: CFBundle version: 1.5.0.7220
I tried Adobe Chat and they sent me here.
    Inside my Finder I have:
    /Applications/Utilities/Adobe AIR Application Installer
    and
    /Applications/Utilities/Adobe AIR Uninstaller
If I click on the Uninstaller, it gives me a message that says "An error occurred while uninstalling Adobe AIR.  Uninstallation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
    I am the only user/owner/administrator
Can someone PLEASE help me get this AIR off my HD so I can finish my backup?  I have NO IDEA what AIR is or what it does.
Thank you so much in advance for helping me!!!!

Try deleting your /Library/Frameworks/Adobe AIR.framework folder manually.  That should allow you to reinstall AIR from the runtime installer which you can get here:  http://get.adobe.com/air

  • Do I need to buy Pages for my iMac?

I am trying to learn if I need to buy the ios Pages for $9.99 only and use it on iPad/iPhone/iMac, or must I also purchase the iWork Pages $19.99?

The iOS version of Pages will only work on your iDevices.
The OS X version of Pages will only work on your Macs.
So if you want to work with Pages both on your Macs and your iDevices then you need to purchase both of them.

  • I need audio system recommendations for my iMac.

I have a large iTunes library on my iMac and currently listen to it through a Yamaha receiver with two Cerwin-Vega speakers and an Infinity sub. Although the receiver is designed for surround sound, I just use the stereo mode for music. It puts out 130 watts per channel although I use it in a small 12 x 14 office in my home. I would like to upgrade my sound system for the Mac if there is something available that is just killer for this application.

Yes, a dedicated stereo integrated amplifier would have discrete electronic components, as opposed to the "chip" circuitry in your Yamaha surround receiver.  I myself use a Denon discrete integrated amplifier and it sounds far more lifelike and images far better than the Denon receiver it replaced.  There is a limit as to how far you can improve your sound though in that iTunes songs are recorded and played at less than CD quality and there is no way around that without directly ripping from CD's using a lossless format. So, to sum up, yes you have definite possibilities for improving your listening experience.  And I might recommend if you are interested in saving money that you research on http://www.audiogon.com for quality used components sold by other audiophiles who themselves are upgrading. I've purchased and sold on the site for years.  It's the eBay of audio only components.
And, Yes, to your Question 1.
    Hope this helps

  • I THINK I NEED A HARD DRIVE FOR MY iMac G4

i have been experiencing quite the problem...actually i haven't...if i did not try to update my quickbooks pro 2006, i might not even know the problem existed.
but anyway, i have another thread going in...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=603379&tstart=0
and the people are really helpful, although i think i may have eliminated some problems, unfortunately, i haven't had my problem addressed yet.
i think the hard disk might be bad...i am getting an "invalid node structure" error message when i try to boot in single-user mode. to be exact, it looks like this...
    disk0s3: I/O error
    invalid node structure
    (4, 4481)
    **volume check failed.
now enough of the babble...here is my question, has anyone replaced or had their hard disk replaced in this type of machine? and what can i expect to be charged for something like this?
i hear it is no easy task to do on your own.
    any advice is appreciated.

    Disk Warrior fixed the problem.

  • After Ordering OSX Snow From Apple For My iMac To Install Win 7 64 bit

Customer Support knew I was trying to install Windows7 64 bit when they told me I need OSX Snow Leopard for my iMac in order to do so. I bought the software and it was delivered today. I installed Windows 7 successfully (64 bit) and when I went to install the Boot Camp 3.1 drivers it said I needed Boot Camp 3.0 drivers first. I tried to install those and found out that is when my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHZ processor cannot handle 64 bit Windows.
I have already partitioned my HD with Boot Camp 50/50. Is the only solution to uninstall Windows 7 64? How do I do that? Does anyone know if Windows 7 64 bit can be run on an I Mac early 2008 24"?

do you have SP1 integrated in Win7 instillation disk?

  • What is the best wireless router for my imac G4

i need a wireless router for my imac g4. Which one do you recommend? All all wireless routers capatible with macs?

As Donald mentions, the routers are all compatible with Macs, but the software CD that they include often has Windows specific software on them that is really just a front-end for configuring the router for use. It does nothing that you cannot do yourself manually by accessing the router through the IP address that gets you into the router settings.
If it sounds difficult, it certainly is not. Once you are in - and that is simple - the router's info is in a nice graphical interface that is simple to use.
I use a Netgear WGR614 for my mixed Mac-PC network at it works like a charm. I got it at Best Buy for $39.99.

  • If I own a desktop iMac and a laptop MacBook Air, do I need to purchase Lion for each of them?

If I own a desktop iMac and a MacBook Air, do I need to purchase Lion for each of them?

No. You can install Lion on all machines under your control. BTW, to avoid wasting bandwidth, time, and electricity, when you first DL Lion, don't install it, quit the installer, and copy the Install Mac OS X Lion.app which is DL'd to /Applications to another location. The stupid, inane installer deletes itself as part of its installation process. Then, copy the saved version to the other machines. Do note that if you move the installer app from /Applications, you can install it, and it won't be deleted.

  • Im getting a mac soon, and im deciding if i should get an imac or a macbook pro/air, i have an ipad though, so should i go with an imac because i need a real computer for school?

i need help deciding on whether an imac or a macbook, i have an ipad, but for school in need a computer, but i really dont need portability, but i like the portability, but i also like to sit down with a keyboard and a mouse in my hands, what should i do? assisstence is needed...

Have you been to an Apple Store?  Because the decision really comes down to one of personal preference.  It would be much easier to decide if you could experience your options in person.
I love the idea of being portable and when I can afford a MacBook I will get one.  Yet right now in my life, portability is not crucial so I decided to go with an iMac.  imo, the user experience is far better on an iMac compared to a MacBook, you just can't take it to Starbucks!
My iMac has become the single best, most amazing purchase I have made in my 35 years of roaming the planet, so unless portability is crucial I would recommend getting the iMac.
