I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!! Camera Photos vs. downloads etc plus hardrive help
Hello! I am a student and need some help. I really don't understand computers at all, so my probelms are probably the most basic answers. Anyways here's the latest and greatest:
1.I have a fujifilm finepix camera that has been doing fine loading pictures onto iphoto, until recently my friend has been using the same memory card and loading it onto his laptop which is windows. I have tried taking out the mem. card and just using the basic 4 pictures on the camera and my laptop won't recognize the camera anymore. HELP I am an art student and need the photos ASAP!!
2. Another one of my buddies used my laptop and downloaded a bunch of things i don't want on my computer, so I can't find my "downloads" file, if there is one, but supposedly he cleared all of the files, does that mean they're still there? Because a bunch of my hard drive is used and I need the space.
3. Because the downloads he used and probably all my photos the hard drive is on it's last leg. I have kept up with the updates for the computer but when ever I update it, the memory goes down even further, It says right now: 148.73 GB.... .09 GB free, i don't even understand that. Ughh but those numbers have always been fluctuating and I don't understand why, but I don't know what to do. I want the downloads gone and my photos, and more space . If anyone could pleeeeeeaaaaseeee help me I would greatly appreciate and honor them!!!!
1. Get back the memory card or get a new one.
2. You've got some great buddies. You're going to have to confront him and find out what and where the files are if they are still there.
3. Don't confuse memory with hard drive space. You are going to have to get rid of files that have been put there by yourself and your buddies. You need to maintain at least 10-15% free hard drive space for the OS to work properly. BTW, do you ever empty the Trash?
4. I know you had 3 questions but I wanted to add my 2 cents. Don't let your buddies fool with your Mac anymore. They are causing you problems. Let them get their own.

For the Camera app, try closing it via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Camera app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar at the bottom of the iPad's screen, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it then try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
In terms of syncing, you will need iTunes on your computer - if you haven't already downloaded it then you can do so from here : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
You can conncet the iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (you can enable the sidebar on iTunes 11 on a PC via control-S), and use the tabs on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to sycn your content to the iPad.

For the excel file, what app are you viewing/editing it in ? If the values are different then it may be that the app that you are using doesn't support all the formulas that are being used in the spreadsheet. Apps that 'support' excel documents include Apple's Numbers app, and from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice Pro HD. -
i recently plugged my iphone4 into my laptop to sync, when i plugged it in, itunes told me that i needed to update my software, so i clicked up date and walked awayfrom my computer leaving it to do the rest, but by the time i came back to my laptop 2-3 hours later i had realized that it has run out of charge and because of it my phone had gone into retoration mode- and the only way to fix it was to press restore. what do i do? do i click restore or will that take my phone back to factory settings as i have a tonne of photos and videos etc that i have not backed up yet?
what should i do anny coments or ideas please let me know!The first step in the upgrade process is a backup.
Did iTunes not create a new backup when you first connected it?
You really should be syncing your device and copying pictures off of it on a regular basis.
Starting an upgrade without first syncing and copying the pictures off is not a bright idea.
At this point, you only option is to restore.
Also, in the future, ensure your laptop is plugged into external power before starting upgrades. -

Mac started hanging up while streamlining a kids show. Restarted and got the screen with the apple and the circle. restarted with control-option p and r. Ran disk repairitem got the following results;
invalid index key,
it rebuilds catalog b-tree,
volume repair complete,
updating boot support partitions for the volume as required,
Error disk utility can't repair disk
I'm then prompted to back up all files, reformat the disk and restore backed up files.
Obviously need help here as I think I'm in danger of losing my files, photos etc if I don't do this right.

SteveYou might want to back up the disk as soon as possible, do the repair, then back it up again. First time will have the issues that Disk Utility can't fix, however, you'll have the data saved. Then, once you get things repaired, make a new backup, and go from there.
If you're going to use a hard drive directly connected to your iMac for backup, this is what I mentioned earlier: http://twelvesouth.com/products/backpack/ Great way to use space behind the iMac without adding something else to the desk top. You can buy it through Apple online/stores or Amazon, and there are probably other sources too.
For external hard drives, I like those sold by OWC at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/ as many of them use Oxford chip sets, wihch work well with macs (I've used several for years with no issues). Most pre-packaged drive/cases have a 3 year warranty, although you can buy a case and add your own hard drive. I like Western Digital Scorpio Blacks that have a 5 year warranty. -
I cannot connect a Sony ILCE6000 camera for wireless downloading. Sony feels I need DLNE? They do not know how to make it work. Can anyone help OS10·9·5
I cannot use the software.. so you need to figure out where the problem is..
But let me suggest.. the Mac is not the issue and likely the info from Sony is also up the creek.. they make PC's after all.
It is far more likely the camera is having issues with the wireless network.
Do you know you have a connection to the home network on the camera.. ?? You have an IP address and some internet or local access at least?
How you will discover those things is by fiddling.. but if you can tell me what wireless AP you are using that will help. -
I need help finding phots just downloaded to lightroom...they only show up in "prevoious downloads" and not in a folder in my pictures. what can I do to correct this?
Also, please be aware that Lightroom is not a file browser like your operating system Finder or Explorer is. If the photos are not in the folder you expected them to be in, it is because you (accidentally) imported them into a different folder.

Hi, I made a slide show with music from 81 photos I downloaded to iphoto from my camera. I would like to burn the slide show to DVD, but can't make this happen. How do I go about doing this?
If the DVD is to play on a DVD Player, then Share -> Send to iDVD as iDVD is the only app that creates the correct file structure and format for this purpose.
If the DVD is just to hold the file, then Export to the desktop and burn with the Finder.
