I need help figuring out the best way to convert analogue video to DV so that I can edit it.

I have a large number of VHS and hi8 tapes that I want to convert to high quality DV.
I have a couple of options. One is an Elgado Video capture system.
The other is a Sony Digital Media Converter Box (DVMC-DA2).
I have tried a few of the less important tapes using the Elgado Video Capture system. It only allows you to convert to MPEG4 or H.268. It is not very good quality, especially for archival items or items I would later wish to edit.
I also have the Sony Digital Media Converter Box. I have heard that this is a superior option. So far, though, I have only been able to figure out how to import using an old version of iMovie HD. This makes a large imovie project file (approximately 6.18GB for a 28:30 clip vs a 348.9MB for an MPEG4 using delgado.
On top of that to convert the file from an iMovieProject file to DV is an additional step that so far looks like will take a half an hour at best.
Is there any way for me to import VHS/hi8 tapes using the Digital Media Converter Box to creat high quality DV files directly? If so, where can I find this info? What steps should I take and what are the settings I should use.
I have a lot of tapes so I want to figure out the right and most efficient way to do this because I will be repeating it a bunch of times and would hate to have to start over again.
I should also mention that I am using a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, with OSX 10.9.1
I'm sorry in advance if this seems like an obvious question, but I have been googling and looking at tutorials on the site and just have not found the answer. There are a lot of ads for expensive low quality services to do this converting for you, so maybe the answer I am looking for is burried in all that advertising.

Thanks Biggles and Gotz. I just couldint find capture, but now I can! (It was right under my nose too).
I'm trying it now and it appears to be working. Do you have any other recommendations for capturing from hi8 video source as far as setting go? I am using DV to capture. Are there any other settings I should pay attention to?
There is an extra line of video noise at the bottom, but when I google it, it sounds like it won't show on most standard tvs and if I want to fix it for online, that I should mask it after the fact vs scaling up the video.

I don't recommend you send the iMac in a checked bag. Might get damaged.
Check the airlines website for carry on guidelines.
Or, if you have the original box that the iMac came in, if you have someone who can pick up the iMac for you, send it ahead Fed Ex and insure the package.
Just make sure the display is covered to protect it. A blanket perhaps.

Please help me! I did a slideshow presentation in Powerpoint, then captured the end result in SnapzPro. Now what is the best way to burn this to a disc so that it can be watched on any pc / mac without losing quality? Its poor when I burn it via iDVD.

Its crucial to keep the quality as best as possible, as this is a portfolio of my professional photographs and graphic design projects. Is there any need to go through iMovie? I captured it as an Animation in SnapzPro, which is now in a Mpeg4 Quickmovie format.

I want to keep all these converted movies on my hard drive because down the road I want to extract other clips from them so I can make a 'best of' movie for my other family members. I may want to do that next year.... or whatever..... so I want to have the imovies available for me when that time comes.
In order to do this am I going to have to buy a lot..... and I mean ALOT of extra hard drive space? That darn Canopus was really making files for me that were like 60-80GB's per one half hour movie!!

Need to consume Beehive webservices but can't figure out the best way

I'm completely new to the Beehive scene and I've been commissioned to write a sample application that consumes Beehive Webservices, just add a File to a certain workspace and be able to authenticate users via SSO and basic Authentication to a local DB. Initially I was told that Beehive had only support for REST webservices, so I thought it might be just easier to just go with REST, do a simple POST/GET request and get results, however I'm having a hard time running the sample code as a class is missing.
However I just found that Beehive also has support for SOAP webservices (I somehow like them more as I'm more used to them) but same problem, I don't know how would I authenticate, I found were the WDSL are stored and everything but I just don't understand how would I make a user authenticate with SSO or any other method
Finalyl there's this BPEL workflow for jDeveloper and JCR API.
I just don't know where or how to start, tutorials are oracle.com assume too many things, I was thinking in creating proxy classes using the Beehive WSDL's and consume the services this way, however I still don't understand how to authenticate.
Can anyone give me directions on this? How to use Beehive's SSO and Basic Authentication? thanks in advance

While saving your actions and brushes into files that can be loaded into the new installation is a good idea, I'd STRONGLY recommend against trying to copy your settings (i.e., the "internal" settings files) because they might have machine-specific stuff in them that will cause heartburn on the new machine.
Here's an idea:
1. Install Photoshop CS5 onto your new system. You get two activations with one license, so there's no rush to deactivate the old one just yet.
2. Set up your workspace the way you like it on your new system, and save it as a named workspace.
3. Methodically go through all the settings (Edit - Preferences, and the fly-out menus on the panels) on the new system.
4. Jot down all the changes you make so you can do it again if ever you should need to.
5. Keep both machines for a little while so you can go back and see the old settings if something seems different.
6. Deactivate Photoshop on the old system before permanently retiring it.

Go to the iPods syncing computer. Open iTunes and open iTunes' Preferences. Go to the Devices tab and hoover the mouse pointer over the backup for that iPod. The SN whill come up.

If you were using Apple's BootCamp and received this message, quit it and open Disk Uility in your Applicaitons/Utilities folder.
Select the Macintosh HD partition on the left and select Erase and Erase Free Space > Zero option and let it complete (important) this will check the spare space for bad sectors that can cause issues formatting partitions.
Once it's completed, try creating a partiton again in BootCamp.
If that doesn't work, then hold command option r keys down while connected to a fast internet connection, Internet Recovery should load (spinning globe) and then in that Disk Utility, select your entire internal drive and click > First Aid > Repair Disk and Permissions.
reboot and attempt Bootcamp again.
If you still get a error, it might be that you have OS X data on the bottom area where BootCamp partition needs to go. This would occur if you had the drive or computer for a long time or wrote a large amount of files to the drive and nearly filling it up and then reduced some, but it left traces in the area BootCamp needs to go.
To fix this
BootCamp: "This disc can not be partitioned/impossible to move files."

I think it must be an IMAP account then, & in Mail>Preferences>Accounts>Advanced>Keep copies for Offline viewing:>Don't keep copies, then on the Server, or maybe it's just this one itself, but on the Server you have a setting to remove eMails after 30 days.
If it's a POP account we'd have to investigate that... but you didn't say so I'm guessing here.

Try using the app My Contacts Backup, which will back up your contacts as an attachment to an email. Send this email to yourself, open it on your Mac and double-click the attachment to import them to Address Book (or Contacts if you have Mountain Lion).

Enable the Sort Artist, Album Artist and Sort Album Artist columns so you can see what is going on. Album Artist normally takes precedence over Artist, with the Sort fields further controlling the order.

you can use iMovie to record a video for free on a Mac with iSight.
1. Open iMovie HD
2. Choose “Create a new project”
3. Name the project for example “iSight Movie” (first field). In the second field, let the default location “Sequences”, in the third one, video format, choose “iSight”. Push “Create”
4. iMovie window opens, next to the scissors, choose the camera (Camera mode), then iSight. Now you appear on the screen, right?
5. Press “Record with iSight” in the main picture window.
6. Press the same button to stop. Your new clip appears now in the clip panel at the right.
7. You are done!

I currently use Google's free exchange server and sync my contacts and calendar to Google even though I pretty much do all my emailing from either mac, iphone, or ipad. Since it sounds like it's hard to sync to both google and icloud at the same time, would like to make the switch. Is there a FAQ out there? You can share songs, but if there is DRM protection on the song, it will not play on the other device unless you also transfer the rights to the other device. You are getting into the problem of music piracy.
