  • Need help understanding spanning tree for CCNA.

    I ran into a question something like this on exam, and I had no clue what to do. I ended up failing by 10% I think because I didn't understand STP well.
    For some reason the book never covered what is a tiebreaker in a setting like this. I thought about it, but was like it's not in here then I don't care, you probably would not find that in a real network anyhow.
    Based on default settings the root switch in my drawing would be SW#1. one of the ports on SW#3 would block the other would be root. Either path from SW#3 to SW#1(root) would be the same. I don't know what SW3 would do then if it's based on interface#, or something to do with the BPDU received from the prior switch, or some other method.

    Help needed in constructing a tree. I was wondering if some one can suggest me how to add messages in the second column for both the parent node and child elements.
    I was able to create a tree succefully, but want to add some description in the second column for the first column elements, for both parent and child elements.
    Please suggest me how to add the arrays to second column for parent and child nodes.

    The Child Text parameter is the one you are searching for. It accepts a 1D string array for the following columns.

  • Newbie needs help with Flex app

    Hi there. I am very new to Flex and also fairly new to
    programming although I do have a little experience.
    I am trying to create an app which stores code snippets or
    common text I tend to use every day in my documents and emails.
    So basically I need help on a design level. I can refer to
    the developer's manual for exact instructions for commands, but I
    need to know what to code first.
    The app will consist of:
    -a tree directory structure where I can create groups.
    -There will be a basic text editor where I input all my data,
    basic text formatting options (font, bullets etc) would be a bonus.
    -A search function
    -Finally it will ideally allow multiple client apps write to
    a central database file over a network
    Can anyone suggest how I should approach such a project?
    Or are there any tutorials / source files which demonstrate
    each bullet point?
    thanks.

    Hey jono,
    I'm new too. But I think I might know the right components.
    If you google any of these + flex 3 you should get some
    decent documentation
    tree - advanced dataGrid component
    basic text editor - rich text editor component
    search function - well, you're gonna need to read up on
    arrays, and arraycollection. Once you get that stuff working, you
    can write up a function to search for a string in an array.
    network functionality - HTTPService, you can dump the
    datagrid into a database, and have it load the database when you
    open up the application.
    Give these things a shot, tutorials / sources will come with
    the google searches.

  • Need help with an assignment

    first of all, who has heard of the game called zuul? It is a very boring text based game I am currently having the pleasure of improving.
    Basically, you are in a room, that is connected to a bunch of other rooms and depending on the room you are in, you have different exists and different items in the room.
    The goal is to navigate through the collection of Rooms and there is no real win condition, It is more for learning then for actually playing.
    You navigate by a series of commands such as: go (direction)( as in "direction of exit", NSEW), quit, a few other odd bits.
    ex: go south, quit, go west etc
    The game has several classes: Game, Command, CommandWords, Item, Parser, Room.
    Obviously Game is the main central head conch, (it is not the super class.)
    Game makes use of Item, Room, Parser, and Command.
    Item is the class that deals with the number of items in the Room.
    Room is the class that deals with the rooms the player will navigate to and from.
    Command reads in the commands such as "go-(direction)" or "quit".
    Parser makes everybody understand each other by using both Command and CommandWords.
    CommandWords is a list of commands such as "go", "quit" etc.
    The problem I am having right now is to allow a player to move through the rooms while holding a certain item. The item has to come from the rooms and the player should be able to drop it.
    So I have to add two new commands: take and drop. The problem is that I have been asked to do this without creating a new class. Otherwise I would have just created class Player and be done with it. So I am trying to figure out whose responsibility should it be to take care of the take and drop command. I have done some preliminary work in class Game, it is the take(Command command) and drop() methods.
    I have also a few questions concerning other aspects of the project, I have listed their locations here:
    1. The take() method in class Game, the for-each loop, a complier error with ArrayList
    2. class Parser, a general question about the string tokenzier
    If you want to see how the game is suppose to run, just comment out the bodies of take() and drop(). Not the declaration. Everything else works.
    I shall now provide the code to all classes. I wish there were an option to upload a zip file, then you don't have to read through all the codes and copy&paste all the codes. The complier I am using is BlueJ. And the SDK version is 1.6. With the exception of class Game, everything else can be assumed to be error free.
    Thank you for your time,
    Davy

    * This class holds information about a command that was issued by the user.
    * A command currently consists of two strings: a command word and a second

    * obviously are "take" and "map").
    * The way this is used is: Commands are already checked for being valid
    * command words. If the user entered an invalid command (a word that is not
    * known) then the command word is <null>.
    * If the command had only one word, then the second word is <null>.

    with IP address of 129.174.2.7.  This device is connected to the same switch above.
    Firewall is OFF on the server, allow ALL,
    - Windows 2003 Enterprise Server supplicant with the latest Service pack and patches.  Again,
    Firewall is OFF on the server, allow ALL.  Juniper has verified the configuration settings
    on the Supplicant machine.  The supplicant has a static IP address of 129.174.2.15, same subnet
    as the radius server, I just want enable EAP-PEAP so that user is forced to authenticate before
    the port is activate to be "hot".
    - Juniper TAC has verified the configuration on the Steelbelted radius for eap-peap
    and that everything is looking fine,
    I have verified that the switch can communicate fine with the radius server.

    I am at a complete lost here.  don't know what else to do.  Someone with expertise in this realm please
    help me how to make this work.
    Many thanks in advance,

    #1:  dot1x system-auth-control is already in the switch configuration
    #2:  Not sure if you're already aware, the minute I entered "dot1x port-control auto", the command "dot1x pae authenticator" automatically appears on the interface configuration
    The case is being worked on by Cisco TAC.  One of the issues is the windows 2003 server supplicant refuses to work.  Windows XP supplicant uses machine-authentication instead of user-authentication.  Cisco TAC is looking into this issue.

    Hi Naresh,
    Pass the field catalog with the additional parameter (ls_fcat-edit = 'X'.).
    for F4 help if the data element have the search help it automatically will come. other wise include the additional parameter in the field catalog (ls_fcat-F4AVAILABL = 'X')

  • Apple AND Microsoft techs stumped; workarounds impractical. I need help.

    I've got one that techs at Apple and MS have so far been unable to resolve, except with workarounds that aren't really practical.
    The problem I'm going to describe happened first in Office v.X. Not knowing where those discs were to reinstall even if I wanted to, I went out today and bought Office 2004. After installing the new software and downloading all the updates, the problem didn't go away.
    Here's what happens, and it only happens with Word and Excel. I can open both programs. The menu bars for each show up across the top. However, the document or spreadsheet window is not there. It simply isn't on the desk top. It isn't "spaced" away. It's not hidden (I've tried turning on and off the hide window, and nothing happens). I can even minimize the window through the drop down menus, and a document or spreadsheet icon will show up in the dock.
    What I've done with the techs:
    Created a second administrator account. The programs work well in that account. The workaround would be then to migrate all of my 250 gigs of info to that new account, and discard the prior admin account. Whatever is affecting the operation of the MS programs could possibly migrate as well.
    MS techs had me delete all of the preferences and the Normal template for the MS programs. Nothing changes.
    Reinstall Office 2004. This was a time waster, as the problem existed before the initial installation of Office 2004. Reinstalling it didn't eliminate whatever conflict was happening.
    I put an Excel file into my shared folder, and was able to open it successfully in the second admin account I created.
    The MS techs had me do a Safe Boot, and that seemed to solve the problem once I restarted in a regular configuration. Except that the document and spread sheet windows disappeared after being open for about 10 minutes.
    Please note: The applications are opening, and "believe" that the documents I opened are indeed there. I can even see the info in each spreadsheet cell in the menu bar. It's just that there's no document window. It's not behind my desk top. It's not hidden. It's not spaced. It just isn't there.
    I need help please.
    Has this happened to anyone else? Is there another place I should look for conflicting files or glitches? I really don't want a workaround. These two programs should work seamlessly with Leopard.

    Obviously you have an incompatibility with some previously installed software. Since Office works with a 'virgin' account the problem isn't system wide. It's likely confined to the ~/Library folder tree. So you can start the slow and tedious process of moving files from <badaccount>/Library/* to <goodaccount>/Library/* in a systematic way. After you move a folder, launch and test Word. Then move more folders over. Launch and test again.
    Eventually you will break <goodaccount> and the last folder you moved is likely to be the culprit.

  • Need help - Catalyst 3550 on CCM4.1 Voip

    Guys.
    We had a Catalyst 3550 switch fail last week, and the guy who really knows this system has left the company.
    The switch has a non-free molecules error, which i believe is terminal.
    I've sourced a replacement switch and need help configuring it.
    I copied the running config from it's sister switch (there are only 2 switches on this ccm), however, the sister switch is a 3560.
    I changed the I.P address and switch name before uploading it to the 3550 on the off chance it might just work.
    Show run on the 3550 shows that it might be configured, but when i connected it, it took the gateway down.
    I'm really up the creek at the moment unless i can get someone to either look at it, find an old config or get this guy back in for a few hours.
    Any advice would be greatly received.
    Looking at show run, i see two refernces to VLAN's
    interface Vlan1
     ip address 170.205.238.3 255.255.255.0
    interface Vlan10
     ip address 10.10.0.254 255.255.255.0
    ip classless
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 170.205.238.1
    no ip http server
    The I.P address 170.205.238.1 is alien to me.. i don't know what this is. However, what i do know is that i never changed this. This IP address is the same in the 3560.
    Could this cause an issue ?. I'm not aware of anything on a 170.X.X.X subnet, this could have been some legacy from the previous owners of the building.
    The first 3 ports in the switch are connected to the publisher, subscriber and gateway router.
    Does it matter which port is connected to which component. ?
    I believe that i can't be too far away from configuring this, but without any help, i'm a bit stuck.

  • I think I need help with driver (software) settings for D110a

    I think I need help with driver (software) settings for D110a all-in-one
    Product: D110a all-in-one
    OS: Windows XP Professional
    Error messages: None
    Changes before problem appeared: None--new installation
    The quality of photo images (mostly JPG files) in printouts is awful even though the files display beautifully on the PC screen. I am using
    IrfanView software for displaying/printing. As far as I can tell, IrfanView is not the problem.
    When I print the same images on a Deskjet 5150 attached to a different PC also running XP Pro and IrfanView, the quality of the printouts is at
    least acceptable, Some would probably say good or very good.
    It's dificult to explain in words the problem with the printouts. A picture of really pretty vegetables (squashes, tomatoes, watermelon, etc) comes
    out much too red. Moreover, the red, which appears shaded on the screen, seems to be all one shade in the D110a printouts.
    Something similar happens to a view of a huge tree in full leaf. On screen, there are subtle variations in the "greenness" of the leaves. In the
    printout, all green is the same shade. In the same printout, the trunk of the tree is all a single shade of grey. It isn;t even obvious that the
    trunk is a round, solid object.
    I liken the effect to audio that disappears entirely when you lower the volume and gets clipped into square waves in even moderately loud passages.
    I don't know whether the D110a driver software permits adjusting the parameters that appear to be set incorrectly, and if adjustments are possible,
    how I would identify which parameters to adjust, how I would access them, or how I would adjust them. I'm hoping that someone can help. Thanks.
    I forgot to mention that I have used the diagnostic application and it tells me that there are no problems.

    Hi everyone,
    I noticed the following message when network starts on my gateway
    Warning: This functionality is deprecated.
    Please refer to /etc/rc.conf on how to define a single wired
    connection, or use a utility such as netcfg.
    Then I realized the way network settings should be written in rc.conf has changed. But I can't figure out how this should be done.
    Currently, my set up is the following (old way):
    INTERFACES=(eth0 eth1)
    eth0="dhcp"
    eth1="eth1 192.168.0.10 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
    eth0 is on DHCP because the IP is dynamically assigned my ISP.
    eth1 has a fix IP because it's on the LAN side.
    No problem to use DHCP on eth0 with the new settings.
    But for eth1, I don't know what I am supposed to write for gateway.
    Wiki isn't clear on that one either, and it looks like many articles still refer to the old way.
    Any guidance appreciated, thanks.
    brazzmonkey,
    you can't define 2 interfaces the old way (even though I saw some tricky workaround somewhere in the forums).
    Use, f.e., netcfg:
    Comment your old lines.
    In /etc/rc.conf insert:
    NETWORKS=(Eth0-dhcp Eth1-static)
    DAEMONS=(..... !network @net-profiles ....)
    In /etc/network.d create 2 files:
    First one is named  Eth0-dhcp.
    Contents:
    CONNECTION="ethernet"
    DESCRIPTION="Whatever text"
    INTERFACE=eth0
    HOSTNAME="your hostname"
    IP="dhcp"
    DHCP_TIMEOUT=15
    Second one is named Eth1-static.

  • Disk utility can't repair disk, back up and restore files......I need help, I'm worried I'll lose all my photos, files etc

    Mac started hanging up while streamlining a kids show. Restarted and got the screen with the apple and the circle. restarted with control-option p and r. Ran disk repairitem got the following results;
    invalid index key,
    it rebuilds catalog b-tree,
    volume repair complete,
    updating boot support partitions for the volume as required,
    Error disk utility can't repair disk
    I'm then prompted to back up all files, reformat the disk and restore backed up files.
    Obviously need help here as I think I'm in danger of losing my files, photos etc if I don't do this right.
    Can anyone help
    Steve

    You might want to back up the disk as soon as possible, do the repair, then back it up again. First time will have the issues that Disk Utility can't fix, however, you'll have the data saved.  Then, once you get things repaired, make a new backup, and go from there.
    If you're going to use a hard drive directly connected to your iMac for backup, this is what I mentioned earlier: http://twelvesouth.com/products/backpack/ Great way to use space behind the iMac without adding something else to the desk top. You can buy it through Apple online/stores or Amazon, and there are probably other sources too.
    For external hard drives, I like those sold by OWC at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/ as many of them use Oxford chip sets, wihch work well with macs (I've used several for years with no issues). Most pre-packaged drive/cases have a 3 year warranty, although you can buy a case and add your own hard drive. I like Western Digital Scorpio Blacks that have a 5 year warranty.

  • Need help implimenting PLUS ldf in c++ via XMP sdk

    I'm apparently suffering major brainstem bitrot and generating lots of brain coredumps, and I need help.
    I'm using the XMP toolkit sdk 5.1.2 in c++ under gcc on Debian to impliment embedding PLUS ldf licensing metadata (reference: http://ns.useplus.org/LDF/ldf-XMPReference ) into images.
    I have no problems generating compliant plus ldf xmp in code for everything EXCEPT for single line detail entries like "<rdf:type rdf:resource="plus:LicenseeDetail"/>" in several places in the ldf specification, viz:
    <plus:Licensee>
       <rdf:Seq>
         <rdf:li>
              <rdf:type rdf:resource="plus:LicenseeDetail"/>
              <plus:LicenseeID>http://plus-id.org/AAA-987</plus:LicenseeID>
              <plus:LicenseeName>ABC Advertising Agency</plus:LicenseeName>
         </rdf:li>
       </rdf:Seq>
    </plus:Licensee>
    I can generate the appropriate text in memory then parse that to get an appropriate SXMPMeta and merge that, but I would really like to be able to properly generate the proper xmp in code, and would really appreciate any help preventing further brainrot!
    I'm certain it's both simple and trivial, but I now can't see the trees because of the forest ... Thanks

    Hi,
    I'm not a XMP expert but I've been working for some years with Semantic Web technologies. My understanding is that XMP is a subset of RDF (one of the main pieces of the Semantic Web) so I will try to make my contribution to this problem from there.
    Consequently, looking at your problematic piece of XMP:
    <plus:Licensee>
       <rdf:Seq>
         <rdf:li>
              <rdf:type rdf:resource="plus:LicenseeDetail"/>
              <plus:LicenseeID>http://plus-id.org/AAA-987</plus:LicenseeID>
              <plus:LicenseeName>ABC Advertising Agency</plus:LicenseeName>
         </rdf:li>
       </rdf:Seq>
    </plus:Licensee>
    I can say that it isn't valid RDF so it shouldn't be proper XMP. This can be confirmed looking at the example for the property plus:Licensee available from the specification (http://ns.useplus.org/LDF/ldf-XMPSpecification#Licensee):
    <plus:Licensee>
       <rdf:Seq>
          <rdf:li rdf:parseType="Resource">
             <rdf:type rdf:resource="plus:LicenseeDetail"/>
             <plus:LicenseeID>http://plus-id.org/AAA-987</plus:LicenseeID>
             <plus:LicenseeName>ABC Advertising Agency</plus:LicenseeName>
          </rdf:li>
       </rdf:Seq>
    </plus:Licensee>
    I have marked in bold where the problem is. Your piece of XML is missing the rdf:parseType="Resource" construct. I will explain why this is necessary from what I know from RDF. RDF is based on a graph model. There are resources, which correspond to graph nodes and represent the things the RDF metadata is talking about, and properties, which correspond to graph edges and represent the attributes and relations used to say things about the resources.
    In RDF the convention is to use lowercase names for properties. This doesn't seem to be the convention in XMP so we must take a closer look at the XMP piece in order to identify what parts correspond to resources and to properties. From the LDF specification we know that plus:Licensee correspond to a property so it should link to a resource, in this case rdf:Seq (more specifically it is an anonymous resource (no id provided) of type rdf:Seq). Your example should have some additional markup before plus:Licensee, surely the resource that represents the licensee about which we are specifying the licensee using the plus:Licensee property.
    Now, if we continue from the resource of type rdf:Seq, there is the rdf:li property (lower case as it is directly reused from the RDF specification). The problem now is that if we look directly inside rdf:li property we find rdf:type, plus:LicenseeID and plus:LicenseeName. It is clear that rdf:type (lowercase) is a property and from the LDF specification we can see that the other two also correspond to properties. Therefore, there is the problem. We have a property (rdf:li) pointing to three properties (rdf:type,...) so we are breaking the graph data model: nodes (resources) are connected through edges (properties) that link two nodes.
    This is not the case for the example in the LDF specification. The rdf:parseType="Resource" constructs is a shortcut for:
    <rdf:li>
       <rdf:Resource>
             <rdf:type rdf:resource="plus:LicenseeDetail"/>
             <plus:LicenseeID>http://plus-id.org/AAA-987</plus:LicenseeID>
             <plus:LicenseeName>ABC Advertising Agency</plus:LicenseeName>
       </rdf:Resource>
    </rdf:li>
    It basically says that the following properties should be parsed as being connected to an anonymous resource. In order to make it clearer, it is helpful to look at the graph behing that markup. For instance, you can use the RDF2SVG service and render the graph behind the example from the specification (which I have make available from a custom URL):
    http://rhizomik.net/redefer-services/render?rdf=http://rhizomik.net:8080/html/~roberto/tmp /ldf-simple-example.rdf&format=RDF/XML&mode=svg&rules=http://rhizomik.net:8080/html/redefe r/rdf2svg/showgraph.jrule
    I hope all this makes it clearer.
    Best,
    Roberto García
