I need help installing mac os x tiger, disc 2

my macbook successfully installed disc 1 of mac os x tiger, within minutes, however when it asks for me to insert disc 2, and i do so, it almost finishes installing the disc, then an error message pops up, saying "there were errors installing the software, please try installing again" i have repeated this process at least 20 times, and the same thing keeps happening. i can't even use my computer regularly since everytime i open it up this happens! please help!

Hold the Moyse button down to eject Disc #2 while booting up, at the same time hold the Option/alt key down to have the startup manager pop up, insertt Disc #1 & wait For Disc #1 to show as a boot choice.
That second Disc thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

  • Help installing Mac OS X Tiger from Panther 10.3.9

I'm using a iMac 700MHz PowerPC G4, flat screen kind, with 512 MD SDRAM currently running 10.3.9 Panther. It has a CD/DVD-Rom drive so it can normally read them. However, when I insert the install DVD, a message would pop up saying that "The disk could not be burned (for whatever reason)" and would list the error code of "0x80020043". Now, as I'm sure you all know, the Tiger install disc is a read-only DVD. So why will it not read it and allow me to run the installer for Tiger?
My iMac used to be able to play DVD Movies as well, but something happened to the DVD-ROM drive so that the DVD Player won't even work. Is there some way I can fix just that issue to get the Tiger disc working or do I have to go through a big complicated restoration mess?

This is kind of odd, going back and forth between my posts... Anyway, it doesn't say Drop-in Upgrade DVD, just the CPU Drop In DVD.
If this helps: the iLife '05 Install DVD, the plain ol' Install DVD won't work either. We get the same error code. 0x80020043, or numbers similar to that. I think those are the exact ones. Our Mac thinks that I'm trying to burn stuff to the disk, but I'm not and they're obviously read-only disks.

  • Need help installing Mac OS X

Okay, I just got my macbook today, turned it on, loaded some pictures, then noticed the two disks called "Mac OS X". I have never owned a mac and just assumed I needed to install these two discs. A few minutes into installing the first disk, I realized I already had Mac OS X, that it was the operating system (duh). I cancelled the installation. A message came up and said that if I cancel installing I would need to reboot my computer, and would I like it to reboot with Mac OS X from my hard drive or from the CD in the drive? I said from the hard drive. What I think happened was that while I was installing the OS it was deleting what was already on my computer.
When the macbook restarted, it gave the the apple and the gear turning. I have tried to safeboot it to no avail. I cannot eject disk one of the OS from the disk drive. I have tried fsck and it didn't help. What I CAN do is get to the single-user mode screen...
Is there ANY way to install the operating system from "single-user mode"? Since the disk is stuck in the drive anyway?
Also, I'm guessing on the 10.4.3, I didn't get a chance to really see the numbers
    PLEASE HELP

    adjectiveclaws,
You should be able to boot to the installer disk, and you'll need to do so. At the startup chime, hold down the "C" key. This should get you booted to the installer disk.
Assuming the installer loads, choose a language, then open Disk Utility from the "Utilities" menu. Select the internal hard drive, then switch to the "Erase" pane. Make sure the format is "Mac OS Extended (journaled)," and click "Erase." Quit Disk Utility to return to the installer, then proceed to install OS X normally.

  • I really need help installing mac os 10.0

i just bought mac os 10.0 and i was trying to install it on my imac g3 running 9.1 and it goes to setup and asks to choose a destination drive. It shows my hdd and the cd-rom BUT it will not let me select either one. does anybody have any suggestions?
    Apple Imac   Mac OS 9.1.x

OK. To run OS X will require several things.
    1. You will need to install a firmware update. This must be done while booted into OS 9.1 or higher (not OS X.) You must install the firmware update before attempting to install OS X.
    2. You must partition your hard drive such that the first partition is no larger than 7.85 GBs. OS X must be installed on this partition. The other partition can be the remaining space on the hard drive. The drive must be formatted Mac OS Extended (HFS+). You can do this using Drive Setup on your OS 9.1 or higher Installer CD (you must boot from the CD.)
    3. After partitioning I suggest you first reinstall OS 9.1 or higher and be sure it's working before trying to install OS X. You should be able to install OS 9 on the larger partition.
    4. After you get OS 9 installed and working you can then boot from the OS X Installer and install it on the smaller partition.
Again, I would strongly advise against installing 10.0 as it is Beta software. I would not install any version of OS X except 10.3.x (Panther.) Panther is the last release of OS X that can be installed on your iMac.
I would add more RAM to your computer. If you have a Revision A motherboard model you can expand RAM to 384 MBs. If you have a Revision B motherboard model you can expand RAM to 512 MBs. I would highly advise adding the max you can. OS X will run relatively slowly on your hardware because it does not have either the CPU or video horsepower needed for decent performance from OS X.
Note, too, that you will have to upgrade all of your software to OS X compatible versions. OS 9 software will not run in OS X except via the Classic emulator built into OS X.

  • Need help installing mac os 9.1 for classic on tiger

    hi,
i first bought a official copy of os 9.0 then tiger said you need 9.1 so i bought 9.1 and when i hold c at startup no go...so i try booting up in system preferences no go. then when i double click install it says it already had 9.1 installed and i should have 9.2???? but there is nothing in the classic folder.
also i tried dragging and dropping the sytem folder and utilities from the os9.1 cd into the classic folder and then the computer startsup with a question mark over folder and refuses to boot up. so i had to reinstall tiger. help i want classic.
this is a titanium poerbook with the option of os9 startup

    Hi Benjamin,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
There is no need to buy OS 9 retail disks - and depending on what generation PowerBook you have you won't even be able to use them (Macintosh: Some Computers Only Start Up in Mac OS X).
You can reinstall OS 9 (Classic) from the software install&restore disks that originally shipped with your computer: Click on "Support" on top of this page, then type "reinstall classic" into the search field. From the results select the version of your original disks for detailed instructions how to resinstall OS 9.
BTW: No need to buy 9.1 or 9.2 disks. They are free updates and available here: Mac OS 9: Available Updates

  • I  need help installing mac OS 9.0.4

I got an Imac from ebay
no software whats so ever. I turned it on and the system had an administrator password which I didn't know. It has mac OS 9.2 Installed on it I was told by a freind to buy the OS cd and to boot form it so I ordered mac os 9.0.4 from ebay. The cd says to press and hold the letter C Down in the boothing process but nothing happens. I tried starting without the extensions but that didn't help much the computer is usless if I cant use it. Could somebody please help. and sorry for my spelling.

    Hi, Yeddie -
    Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
All Mac models have a minimum OS to which they can boot, typically the original OS version that come with them. Many models came with a model-specific version of the OS. This means that an OS 9 Install CD of a too-old version won't work on a machine; and usually an OS 9 Install CD that is a model-specific one, such as one that originally shipped with a machine, won't work on a different model.
The original CDs that shipped with a machine are usually labelled as Software Install (or possibly Software Restore), and usually include the name of the model on the CD. Unfortunately all iMacs are not the same - even if the CD you got is labelled for an iMac, if it was not intended specifically for your model it probably can not be made to work.
The solution is to get a retail OS 9 Install CD of adequate version. The retail OS 9 Install CDs have a white label with a large gold 9 on them, and contain a universal installer - they can boot and install to any Mac model supported by Apple for that OS version.
You haven't given enough information to determine which model iMac you have - there have been many G3 models of iMacs, each with its own minimum OS requirement. However, a retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD will work on all of them.
I suggest you look for an obtain a retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD. Here's some possible sources -
    http://store.yahoo.com/hardcoremac/index.html - Apple Reseller
    http://www.applerescue.com/
With regard to the administrator password - that's probably a Multiple Users password. It can be removed fairly easily, provided you have a CD the machine can boot to.
Boot to the CD - it need not be an OS 9 Install CD, just one to which the machine can be booted.
Then open the System Folder on the hard drive, go into the Preferences folder and locate the file named "Multi-User Prefs" - throw away that file, empty the Trash, then restart normally.
Note - do not use a CD which boots to OSX until you know for sure whether the firmware on that machine is current. It is dangerous for early iMacs especially to even attempt to boot the machine to OSX before the firmware has been updated.

  • Need Help Installing Mac OS 10.3

Recently my best friends little sister's iMac has been acting up then it froze all together. The computer is a 2000 version iMac. I offered to take a look and found alot of damage to coding. I fixed as much I could and then tried booting up holding the C key but it did not work. Most other ways to solve the problem are blocked by a forgotton password. Is there any way to erase the hard disk and booting from the install CD? Thanks A Bunch
PS the computer will not connect to the internet

Hi MacMan, and Welcome to (the new) Apple discussions.
Do you have the original Mac OS Install or Restore CDs that came with the computer? If so, insert one (preferably the Install CD, but if that is not available, use the Restore CD. Hold the Option key on startup to bring up the Startup Manager. Select the CD and continue starting up. This should let you start up from the CD.
Is there any data on this iMac that you want to save? If so, then select the Clean Install option. This installs a new System folder, but keeps all other data intact. If you want to completely erase the drive, due to drive errors or whatever, then open Drive Setup and Initialize the drive. Then install the OS.
By "Coding errors", do you mean problems with the drive file system? It amy be wise to open Disk First Aid and run it, when booted from the CD. Run it until no errors occur, and please take note of any errors that do occur and First Aid can't fix.
    Kyle-

  • Need to Install MAC OS X Tiger!!!!

Windows XP was installed on my macbook, I formatted the HD and now there are no OSs installed on the macbook. My macbook optical drive does not read DVDs anymore so I cannot install Tiger. I tried Firewire Target Mode using another computer's optical drive to install Tiger on my macbook but it did not work. I called Apple.. nothing. I searched google and apple's support... nothing. What should I do to install Tiger?

Just curious, did you now your optical drive would not read DVDs when you formatted the hard drive?
Is there someone who trusts you enough to borrow their drive to get the process started?
The lack of an optical drive really creates a sticky problem here.

  • Need help installing snow leopard on mac mini 10.5.8 intel based

I need help need help installing snow leopard on mac mini 10.5.8 intel based so if u kno how pls message me thanks

You need to purchase the upgrade disk (it is a DVD). Then just put it in and run the installer. When it was first released it was $29 USD, do not know if the price has changed or not.
The usual precautions about backing up your data apply. In fact I would recommend either making a Disk Image of your current boot drive or using something like Carbon Copy Cloner to copy it to an external drive. I upgraded 5 machines from Leopard to Snow Leopard without any issues, but better to be safe than sorry.

  • Do I need to install  Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel) and firmware

    Hiya,
I recently bought a new Macbook Pro,it is Mac OS X version 10.4.8, i am just wondering whether I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel)?
I also tried to install MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.2, however it says the computer doesn't need to install it. And I checked my Boot ROM Version is MBP22.00A5.B00. After the update it should be: MBP11.0055.B08 (MacBook Pro 15 inch). So I don't know what to do?
    please help!
    Thanks.
    Catherine

"Do I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel) and firmware"
You don't "need" to install anything. If you think you can benefit from the updates then go ahead.
"i am just wondering whether I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel)? "
If it came with 10.4.8 preinstalled, then you do not need to install it.
"So I don't know what to do?"
Nothing. If it says the update isn't needed, then it's already been applied at the factory.

  • The additional components needed to install mac os x cant be found

help, i did a clean reinstall using a USB, now its saying "the additional components needed to install mac os x cant be found" what do i do? i wiped my whole computer!...

Not on my late 2011 15" MBP. When I use just Cammond+r it takes me to the built in recovery HD.
Even with no HDD in the system Command+r gives me nothing, no options at all and certainly not the Internet Recovery system.
Command+Option+r gives me the Internet Recovery system with or without a HDD in the system and with or without a Recovery HD partition on the internal drive.
So it would seem it is different for different models and whether or not there is or isn't a recovery partition on the internal drive.
So for anyone reading this thread try both Command+r and Command+Option+r to boot the computer from the Apple Online Lion Internet Recovery system.
    Thanks.

  • Can't download the additional components needed to install mac os x, what shall i do?

can't download the additional components needed to install mac os x, check your internet connection and try again-  that's the error always showing when im reinstalling the os on my macbook air. what shall i do? please i need help.

Not sure 10.7.3 is still available over the internet download system. I think Apple waws more on the ball this time and switched the Recovery HD system download over to 10.7.4 fairly Quickly.
That may or may not be part of your problem.
It may also be your internet connection is flakey and is dropping the connection with the download server.
If you are doing this over a WiFi connection try connecting the Mac to your router with an Ethernet cable.
