I need help! Ipad3 won't restore... what have I done?

I am completely new to ipads, and waited for the third one to come out to finally buy one. So I connected up with wi-fi and my mail was coming through, but when I connected via cable to my imac (version 10.6.8), nothing happened. It's supposed to open itunes, but doesn't. I manually opened itunes (I've got the latest version) and it still didn't recognise the ipad in order to sync. I read countless threads, forums and manuals to get it to work, and every one of them says "when the device appears in itunes, select it" ... but it doesn't appear in itunes (or anywhere else!). I would love my music, contacts, apps, etc, to be on my ipad too. And I went into icloud on the ipad and turned "on" everything.

So, I started the process of restoring, which really ***** because I've already bought a LOT of apps, books, etc, and I assume I will lose the lot.
And now I got a big fat error (1611) and I want to cry... is there anyone online who can help me? I've only had this gadget for two days and I think I've already broken it!

Error 1611: This error may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article. Alsoattempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. The MAC address being missing or the IMEI being the default value (00 499901 064000 0) can also confirm a hardware issue. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured proxy or security software, such as FoxyProxy, can cause error 1611. To troubleshoot third-party security software, follow these steps.

Did you try a hard reset? Press the Home and Sleep button at the same time until the Apple loading screen comes on.

BTW please update your profile, you aren't using OS X 10.1.x. If you don't know what version you're using click the Apple Symbol in the upper left of this screen and select About this Mac. Once you know the version you can update your profile by clicking Your Stuff on this screen (upper right) and you will see the Profile link. This is useful so we can help you troubleshoot problems.
You can remove apps 3 ways.
Inquire with the developer to see if they have an Uninstall routine. I suspect this game does not.
Drag the app to the Trash
Download and install an app such as AppCleaner. You can find it at www.macupdate.com and search for AppCleaner.

Help with voiceovers...what have I done wrong!!!

convert from Vegas so please be patient.
Have recorded footatge and have correctly recorded voiceovers and am trying to record more; the problem: within the audio mixer window, I cant get the program to recognize any imput from my soundcard. All settings are identical to other instances of PP5 which will recognize the material being recorded. It seems as if something is muted somewhere else in the program other than the mixer window. Playback of other material is fine, I just cant get anyghing new to go in, or even recognize on the meters. the input is chosen correctly, the tracks are neither muted nor locked, and the hardware device is set up properly in windows...it works with any other instance of PP5 (or vegas for that matter) just not this one instance...help me please!!!

As Bill said, there can be LOTS of issues with audio in a computer... I've got an (so far) unexplainable issue with my laptop right now after going from Vista to 7 where the speakers won't work, but the headphone jacks will...
I've never actually recorded my voiceovers in Premiere; I've always used a separate program. That said, everything LOOKS to me to be set right within Premiere, so my next suggestion would be to check hardware settings and make sure that Premiere is accessing the correct input (I noticed you had several possible inputs listed) etc.

Here is what you should do turn the device on hold the home button and the power button until the device turn off keep holding and when the device reboots release the power button but hol the home button until it shows the iTunes logo then restore it

When I turn on the system I hear a loud squeaking noise that could be coming from the hard drive, it does it for moment then a blank white screen appears w/ a tiny folder in the middle of the screen with a "?" blinking on and off on the folder. I never had any problems until now. What can I do, any suggestions.

Yes, it sounds like your hard drive is bad. Do you have access to techtools or Disk Warrior? either of these may be able to repair the drive enough to extract your info from it, if disk utility can't.
I know that there are shops that specialize in extracting info from bad hard drives, but they tend to be pretty expensive. I am sure others on this forum will be able to help you find one if you are interested.

What is the GarageBand version that your friend is using?
If it is GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5, you can buy GarageBand '11 as a boxed retail version with the iLIfe '11 bundle, e.g. from Amazon.
Then you can upgrade GarageBand '11 to 6.0.5, using this upgrader from the Support page:
GarageBand 6.0.5
GarageBand 6.0.5 will work well with your system. But if your friend is using the newest GarageBand 10, this will not help. Then ask your friend to send you audio files for each track, so you can recreate the project from the audio. Or your friend could also use GarageBand '11 for the projects you want to share, that will run well in all newer MacOS X versions, even with GarageBand 10.0 installed on the same system.

Okay, so, fast forward from July to now -
- I've visited my closest Apple store's genius bar twice now. (Over an hour and a half away.)
- My computer spent at least 8 hours behind their closed doors in the workshop
- Several complete erases of the harddrive have taken place
- Most of the Apple geniuses I dealt with were nice and very knowledgeable, but they were and still aren't 100% sure exactly what is wrong with my computer.
The good news is:
- They were able to at least get it running again, with a clean install from their servers of OS X Lion 10.7.5
- They believe that my problems stem from either 1 of 2 things:
- Faulty Hard Drive (even though it is brand new)
- The wrong build of software being installed.
Now, while the wrong build does seem like it could be the problem, it doesn't make sense in the aspect that all of the initial problems began when the first hard drive failed. The same problems continued when I changed out the failed hard drive with the brand spanking new one, and only slightly improved when I was able to successfully install the OS that came with the original disks for my computer. I'm not convinced this thing is back to normal, but hopefully I can make it last through getting a shiny new retina Macbook Pro in the coming future. Thank you so much to everyone who read and replied to this post!

So why can I not get iTunes working well?? It now takes at least 10 secs for any operation to be completed!
That is just plain evil. But I am sure I could do something to help.
All the music is on an 2T external drive.

Brigancook, is the library database on the external or just the media? iTunes reevaluates smart playlists and rewrites its database after every action on the library. I've found this can make a library half that size, with a lot of smart playlists, quite sluggish. That said I'm aware part of my problem is aging hardware. Having the database on the internal drive may improve performance if it is currently on the external.
I'd expect to see an exponential relationship between size and response time which may explain what you see. Cutting down on the number of smart playlists might help. If we're really lucky the long awaited iTunes 11 might have streamlined some of the background processes as well as cleaning up the front end.

Force quit. cmd-option-esc key combo. Then choose Mail and force quit in the window that presents itself.

Sorry to hear you are having a similar problem. Last night I went to the tool bar at the top of iphoto, clicked on "File", then clicked "Browse Backups" in the drop down menu.    I have an external hard drive that is set up to Time Machine.   The Browse Backups opened the iphoto pages in the Time Machine. I selected a date one day ahead of the day I performed the now infamous update, and it showed my iphoto library as it had existed that day.   I then clicked "Restore Library" at the bottom right corner of the Time Machine screen.   Roughly 2 hours later my iphoto was back to normal.   When I opened iphoto there was a message saying I need to upgrade my program to be compatible with the new version of iphoto(version 9.2.1). I clicked "Upgrade" and within seconds it had done whatever upgrading it needed to do.
The only glitch in the restoration was that it restored the library as it appeared last week, so I no longer had photos I had imported this past weekend.   I simply went back to the Browse Backups in the drop down menu, when Time Machine opened I selected the page showing my pictures from this weekend and again said to Restore Library.   Roughly 45 minutes later the library was restored including the most recent photos.
I am now a happy camper.
I don't know if any of this will be of help to you because your email says you are having trouble with photos imported after the upgrade was performed.   Have you had any pop up notices when you first open iphoto, that tell you you need an upgrade to be compatible with the new iphoto?     If so have you clicked "upgrade"?
Good luck Liz, if you have Time Machine running as a back up to your library, maybe you wil be able to get help there, by following my instructions above.   Otherwise,   good luck with your investigations.   I'd be interested in hearing how you make out.

When it comes to Keynote, I try and start with a presentation that's 1680 x 1050 preset or something in that range. Most projectors that you'll get at a conference won't project much higher than that and if they run at a lower resolution, it's better to have the device downsize your Keynote. Anything is better than having the projector try and upsize your presentation... you work hard to make it look good, and it's mangled by some tired Epson projector.
As far as slides go, scan them in at 150 dpi or better, and make them at least the dimensions of your presentation. Keynote is really only wanting 72dpi, but I do them at 150, just in case I need to print out the presentation as a handout later, and having the pix at 150 dpi gives me a little help with their quality on a printer.
You'd probably have to drop in the 150 versions again if you output the Keynote to .pdf or Word or something, but at least you have the option.
And Gary's right (above) go ahead and scan them as TIFFs. Sooner or later you'll want to do something else with these slides (like make something for an iPad or the like) and having them as TIFFs keeps your presentation looking good.
Finally, and this is a big one, get to the location for your presentation ahead of time if you can, and plug the laptop in and see what you get. There's always connection problems. Don't let the AV bonehead tell you everything will work just fine ('... I don't have any adapters for a Mac...') . See it for yourself... you're the one that's standing up there. Unless it's your boss, then you better be really sure it works.

That's what I was thinking but my neighbour did the 10.8 and got the 11 so can't understand how she got it and I didn't.
I have been reading about iphoto 11 and there has been a lot of bad press when using with the iphone, ipad etc. Is it, in your opionion, too much hassle just for photo stream?
