I need help printing custom size w/ In Design

I am new to InDesign.
I have both and Epson R300 and an Epson 1400.
I cannot create custom sizes to print with InDesign. I have a custom sized page (8.75W x 5.625H).
I want to set that size up in my print options but the custom print capability is grayed out on both my R300 and 1400. I'm guessing it's a driver issue?
In the past I've only ever printed on standard sizes but I thought for sure my 1400 would let me print irregular sizes.
Is this a printer issue or am I missing something with InDesign? Is there anything I can do to print this custom size with my printers?
Thanks.

I've discovered that if I use Format for > Any Printer in the Page Setup dialog, the Custom Page created isn't grayed out, and I can access it from the Paper Size selection.
But it doesn't seem to change the actual page area printed to, to the required .25 on top, even though I created a Custom Page of .25,.25,.25, .46 for my HP 960c printer, which claims an actual print area as defined by my custom size.
It seems to continue using a predefined .25L, .5T, .25R, .5B for the Letter Size paper selection.
One piece to the puzzle, responding a year or so late?

    HI Plexi,
As far as I know, there are only the standard sizes available for prints.
You will have to print the custom sizes with your printer.
thanks - I'll give your suggestion a try and let you know how it turns out.

  • I cant print custom sizes in photoshop CS3. Please help

I am on my Imac G4 using mac os x 10.4.11. I know that it is not my printer that is the problem. I have been told that I should upgrade to 10.5.x, I have also purchased a new CS3 because I dont have the original copy so I cant reinstall it. The trouble that I am having is that when I try to print custom sizes, the printer defaults back to 8.5x11. Only in photoshop does it do this. Has anyone else had this problem or know what I can do to fix it? I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your time. I will check back until this is resolved.

    Russell,
Because your screen shots (they look like you actually shot them with a camera! ) don't show the whole Print Preview panel, I'm not sure at what stage you're losing the paper size, but it's pretty clear that by the time you invoke the printer driver, it's royally screwed up.
    At this point I would:
    • delete the printer from your printer list (in the Printer Setup Utility),
    • re-install a fresh copy of the latest printer driver from the Epson site,
    • then add the printer back in.
This is the kind of consistency you should be seeing (Command Click on each thumbnail to open the full-size image in a new web browser tab) [NOTE: this is CS4 running in Tiger 10.4.11):

  • Printing custom size prints

I am having trouble printing custom size photos on regular size paper. I use the custom scale setting in the layout dialog box. However, the result does not match the requested size in the preview window and it does not print the requested size. For example I would like to scale a photo to print 4x10 on a 8/12X11 sheet of paper. When I custom scale to 4x10 the result is 4 high but 7.5 wide. Any help would be appreciated? I'm printing on an HP 9180.

Have you cropped the photo to your desired 4x10 aspect ratio? If you do that, then the only printing part of the photo is that portion you've chosen in your crop. Then in the print dialog, you can tell it to print to 8.5x11 and set the margins there to .5 inch in order for it to scale to 10". Or have you done all this already?

  • Printing custom size envelopes under Yosemite

Upgraded to Yosemite on MacPro.  HP8600 no longer prints custom size envelopes.  Seems like printer keeps expecting 11 inch long paper size even though the envelope is specified as 5.750 height.  Never had a problem before OS upgrade.  Need to print envelopes for Christmas cards.

    Hey @25172 ,
Thank you for taking the time to post on the HP Forums today! Hope you enjoy the experience.
I understand you are having issues when trying to print an envelope but the printer is trying to print on an 11' piece of paper. You used to be able to change the settings and it would work, now it simply isn't following your instruction.
Have you done all the apple updates?
Did you uninstall and reinstall the software for the printer since the update in OS?
Are you experiencing any other issues when it comes to setting related tools with the printer software on 10.10?
Look forward to hearing back from you! Have a great day.

  • Can't print custom size on Mac os 10.3.9.

Recently set up my new Epson 1400 printer but find it doesn't want to print any custom sizes.
Thought it was a printer error but was told that it may be something to do with the mac/program i am using. I'm working on Adobe Illustrator CS2... when i go to print then page set up I can set up the custom size needed ( 30cm-80cm ) on the untitled option, thinking all is going well i look on the print preview it looks exactly how i want it set up ready to go but it will only print Super A3 size even though i have told it not to. A little look closer on the main print page i can see that although the measurements are stored in there, they are not highlighted and neither is the custom button, i'm sure this is the reason why i can't get it to print the longer length needed, can anyone help me, its driving me mad???? thanks.

I'm using Tiger, but it may be the same in Panther.
Open the Page Setup window. In the *Format for* block there may be two choices available by clicking the arrows : Any Printer or your Epson. Select your Epson & you may have more choices for sizes.

  • Need help printing tiff files

I have written some code that prints any file that can be opened using JAI and the ImageIO Tools. The code works good for me but I have some special cases where I am having some difficulty. Some files I need to print are TIFF files with many pages. Some are compressed using Fax Group 4 encoding and others are compressed using OLD jpeg-in-tiff. I can read and print the files just fine, but it takes about 2 seconds to print each page. Also the spooling data for 88 pages is 900 MB in size. Printing the same files using IrfanView takes <1 seconds and the spool file is much smaller (equivalent to the size of the uncompressed tiff) The speed and size issues are problems for me because I am working on a print web service. My code to render each page is below. So far I have tried rendering hints and such to increase speed, but I think the problem is that when I read the image it takes up a lot of space in memory.
Here is the overall requirements for what I am doing: A use will request that the server print a set of files (mixed image formats, restricted to TIFF, JPEG, and GIF) be printed to specific printer as a single print job. They can specify copies and collation only. The service will open each file in order and send its data to the printer. I have created a custom class that implements the Printable interface to handle the multiple files. The class below is created for each file and handles the printing of the image file.
I am using JDK 1.4.2 and WebSphere. I am stuck with these options b/c I have to use some IBM API's (IBM Content Manager 8.3) that are not compatible with 1.5 or higher.
Is there any way to speed up my code. Possibly load the image differently?

I found a couple of issues. One was related to code the other to IBM. AS for the code I found an article about drawing scaled images here: http://today.java.net/pub/a/today/2007/04/03/perils-of-image-getscaledinstance.html which was quite useful. My updated code is below. The second issues is that the JRE I am using is the IBM Websphere 5.1 JRE which pretty much sicks. I tested using a Sun statndard 1.4.2 JRE and the print was 5 times faster. Now I am looking to find a way around that issue, but it is not a questions for this form.

  • Printing Custom sizes on Phaser 6280?

I just purchased the Xerox Phaser 6280, set up was easy and the prints look great. Only issue I'm having is trying to print on custom sizes!
I am trying to print an address on a A1/4Bar envelope (about 3.5x5), file set up to size in InDesign and page size set up in the printer menu. It still doesn't print in the right location on the envelope. It's driving me crazy, I know there is something simple I am missing. After reading the manual (that uses PC steps for the sample, I'm in OS X 10.5) I think there is something that needs to be changed on the printer panel menu itself. After a million different tries I gave up and have probably royally messed up all the settings, ha ha.
Does anyone have this printer? Help?!

We've got the Phaser 7760 here (which I think is a bigger version than yours), and I looked in the Quick Reference Guide for Supported Papers and the A1 envelope is not listed.

  • Printing custom sizes on HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus from Macbook Pro

I am having trouble setting up a Word Document (Word for Mac 2011) to print in a custom size on my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.  I'm using a Macbook Pro running Yosemite.
I would like to print on a card stock that is 4.5 in x 13.5 in.  I have tried under Page Setup to create a custom size under Manage Custom sizes, however, I'm hitting a brick wall.  The printer gets the job but can not feed the paper.  I've also tried to set my default paper size under my System Preferences/Printers and Scanners to be this size...still not working.
    Please help!

    Hi @klinecard
It is important to ensure the paper size you are selecting is a supported size, and make sure the weight is supported too.
Printer Specifications for the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Series Printer Series
    Please look under paper handling.
If your desired size and weight is supported, you might find the following helpful; Create Custom Paper Sizes in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X
Truthfully, since you are not getting an error message, I suspect you have correctly setup the custom size, this issue is most likely the printers inability to feed the paper you are using.

  • Problem printing custom size document

I am trying to print a custom size document (4.4"x7.2") that I created in Microsoft Word.  I have set the Page size in Word, tried to create a custom size page in my Printer, and am unable to select this paper size in the properties of my printer (using the control panel).  I am at a loss at how to eliminate the "Paper Mismatch" error.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  (I have two other size papers I need to generate documents for as well...4.4"x6.2"  and 4.4"x8.2")

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I doubt I will get any thanks for this; some days are just like that.  Smiling.
While there are several instances where the Specification Sheet is actually in error and Windows does support Custom sizes for some printer models in a similar printer class, I do believe that in the case of THIS printer model, the specs are correct:  Only Mac OS supports Custom paper sizes.
More simply said:  You cannot get there from here.
You are likely stuck with the paper sizes supported by the printer as specified in that Spec sheet.
I could not find the necessary file  Create Custom Paper Sizes in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Mac OS X  for YOUR printer model that one would expect to see in the How-to Support pages if the "Custom" paper sizes are supported for Windows.
I could be wrong -- I have been wrong before.   I do not mind being wrong if it means you get what you need.
If you had something even close to what is allowed, you might be able to select something from the list, adjust the paper in the printer and try to get away with it by adjusting the Printing Preferences.

  • ID CS5.5 Mac - Trouble printing custom size 13x21 transparency

I am trying to print a positive transparency for a screen print. The document is 13x21. I have a 13 wide transparency roll from which I have cut a 21" piece. I'm printing to an EPSON 1400.
I cannot get the file to output to this szie. It cuts off the image within in 8.5x11 boundary every time.
    I have:
    - set a custom size in the print dialog
    - clicked Page Setup in the print dialog and set the custom size there as well, ignoring the warning about it not being the ID print dialog
    - the preview in the dialog will look perfectly oriented to the correct size in the little thumbnail
    - I have tried everything I can think of to try and get the output sizes in sync and correct
    - I switched to PDF to try that, fail again
Is there anyone that can help with some step by step of a process that will work?

I just can't comprehend how this could be so difficult and unintuitive. Any insight would be freaking wonderul.

Wow! Sudden serendipitous conclusion to this insanely frustrating issue.
I had found information that the EPSON 1400 should be able to print 44" long output by default. I was searching specifically to find folks that had printed large or panoramic imagery and stumbled onto a UK photography site where a person has mentioned he'd written software that would allow this printer to even print beyond 44". That sounded great.
BUT, the last post on the thread a guy mentioned how he was able to print up to 44" to an EPSON 1400 with ease. The solution, he said, was that the WIDTH of the print area in the page setup must be LESS THAN 13". Why? No explanation.
So I reset my custom size to 12.5x21 inches and BAM! First attempt from InDesign printed successfully. I can work with the margin.
Anyway, in case anyone else runs into this issue this works. Here is a link to the 2009 post that mentions this as well as info regarding printing longer than 44".
    This one is solved.
