I need help splitting video into segments

I am very new to this and trying to figure all this out. Does anyone know how to capture a video and then split into several segments so it will show on the main menu as 3 separate videos to watch? I want to have the video split so you can click on the different icons on the main menu and then that would take you to a chapter menu for each video. Does that make sense? Can anyone help me? Please and thank you!

Hi Michele:
You can do that with Chapter Markers.
Setting chapter markers
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/6.0/en/imv1110.html
Just be certain to follow the "Chapter Marker Rules":
*Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the start or end of the timeline.
*Make sure no chapter markers are within a transition.
*Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the end of a transition.
*Make sure you do not have the "Share selected Clips" option checked when preparing to share to iDVD

  • How can we split video into frames

in jmf, can we split video into frames, how can we do that?
    thank you very much.

    hi!
i'm also working on a system that requires the extraction of video frames.
is this the example you were refering? http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/FrameAccess.html
i tried the code and it always gives me a noProcessorException
i run it as: java FrameAccess c:\1.mpg
it says that "cannot find processor for c:\1.mpg"
is it because it doesn't support mpg files? then what media files can it accept?
or is it because my syntax for URL (c:\1.mpg) is wrong?

  • Splitting video into clips

video downloaded from DVD will not split into clips for editing how can I split into clips. The DVD is from an old camerea not compatable with windows 7 so have to download from DVD . jules

It sounds like whatever was put on disc was put on a DVD-R Intenso brand disc.
Probably the tape content was put on that DVD-R disc in DVD-VIDEO format. It gets more complicated if it gets put on the DVD-RAM type disc (which does not seem to be the case).
To verify the format of the material on your DVD disc, put the disc in the burn tray, go to computer, and Open the drive. You should see at least two folders, OpenDVD, VIDEO_TS, and maybe AUDIO_TS. Those folders are indicative of a DVD-VIDEO format.

Now back to Premiere Elements and the Video Importer. The video editor is not going to rip off clips from the DVD-VIDEO format. It is going to rip off VOB video files which contain a fixed number of files before it generates additional of its kind for additional video content.
Once you have the video VOB files (typically starting with VTS_01_1.VOB...spot the larger file size ones), in the Video Importer, you bring them into the project where you split them into clips that you want. You can do that in the Preview Window with the Set In Set Out point.

  • Need help with Video Categories Movies, Music Videos, ETC.

Is there anyway to put ripped videos into other categories besides just Movies? I would like to put some of them under Music Videos, is that possible?

Neither Quicktime Pro or iTunes have the ability to successfully encode a muxed video file with audio. You'll end up with video and no audio.
You'll need to use some other third-party software to do the conversion. There's a handful of software available. Just search the forums and you'll find many titles mentioned.
Videora iPod Converter seems to be popular amongst Windows users, although I've read that you might get mixed results using it.

  • Need help with videos!!! Please

i need help! i have a 30G ipod video and my videos are being weird. They used to play on my ipod but now there is no picture or sound. it plays on itunes too so i dont understand. Also, my purchased music plays on itunes but skips past them on my ipod-they used to play on my ipod. PLEASE help me!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    For Videos:
So what are they doing? Are the videos showing up under "Videos" on the iPod? What happens when you try to play them? Have you tried these?
    Resetting iPod
    Restore the iPod
    For Purchased Music Skipping:
Have you played the songs in iTunes for a few seconds? This will authorize them. Now sync your iPod. Do they play?
If not, make sure everything is up to date on your computer and iPod..
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
    Updating iPod's Software
If that doesn't work, in iTunes, go to advanced-->deauthorize computer. Now play the songs in iTunes. It will ask for your account information (from the iTunes Music Store). Enter that. Now play a few purchased songs for a few seconds. Sync your iPod. Do the songs work now?
    If they don't, try this...
Deauthorize the computer. (Go to advanced-->deauthorize computer in iTunes)
Create a new user in the system. (Start-->control panel-->user accounts-->create a new account)
Download the free song of the week in the new user account. (First, log out of the current user and log in to the new user account. Then open iTunes and download the free song)
Play the song in that username to authorize it.
Restore the iPod in the New User account, sync just the Free song of the Week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it plays fine on the iPod when syncing with this user name (after you followed the above instructions), it would indicate a bad iTunes Library File. Post back for instructions on how to fix that.
Now, if it still won't work (you followed the above instructions with the new user account) and the iPod still won't play the songs, then post back.

  • Need Help Converting Video

Hello - I have a couple of separate questions that I need help with.  I know basic FCP.  I have FCP7.  I recently shot a wedding with 2 different cameras.  Both are HiDef Cameras.  1 Camera is a Prosumer Camera where the files were taking off the camera and imported by Final Cut.  The second is a new, home camcorder which saved the files into a hard drive in MPEG 4 format.
I need to marry the two.  I can import the all the files (from both cameras) directly into the timeline.  But the ones from the camcorder (the mpeg4s) seem to have that "hitchy" feel to them when I play them back.  Also, both types of files (even the ones that were directly imported into Final Cut from the Prosumer Camera) have the "render" lines when they are in the timeline, so I constantly have to render which takes forever.
The files that were imported directly into FCP from the ProSumer camera were imported on a different computer with a different version of FCP, so when I drag them into my timeline it tells me that they were from a different version and asks me if I want to update for my version.  If I click YES then it stretches the files from 16:9 to 4:3.  If I say NO then it keeps the 16:9 aspect ratio, but adds yet another layer of render I need to do.
Normally I do simple, Standard Def edits where I import things into the timeline via FCP7 with firewire from a deck and edit directly from there, then firewire back to the deck.  Simple - no rendering, etc.  My questions are as follows:
1 - Do I need to reset my timeline settings because I am now working with HiDef?  Or does FCP automatically know that it is HD and it doesnt matter how I drag it into the timeline?
2 - Do I need to convert the MPEG 4 files to quicktime format, or does it not make a difference
3 - When I export, what settings would I use to keep it in HiDef.  I am only going to make DVDs with it.
4 - Is there a way to do it so that I do not have to render constantly while editing
5 - To view, I am firewiring out to a deck which is then going into a Standard Def monitor.  Is that the reason the footage appears "hitchy"?
Any help is greatly appreciated.  If you have any help, please drop me a note at [email protected]
    Thanks

YOu need to learn how to use FCP.  Sorry, no offense needed, and I know it sounds harsh. But from reading that I can tell you have no idea about how to properly import tapeless media into FCP...and don't know what formats FCP works with...nor know what formats the cameras record.  This is all basic stuff you need to know before you edit.  Editing isn't only creative, but lately highly technical as well...you need to know what your software is capable of doing, and how to get the footage into it properly.
You cannot do what you did...directly drag from the cameras into FCP.  No...it needs to be imported, typically with LOG AND TRANSFER...and converted from the shooting format, which typically isn't natively editable in FCP (want native, use Adobe Premiere...).  It needs to be converted to ProRes.  And yes, the file sizes of ProRes are a LOT bigger than the camera originals.  4-5 times larger.  That's how FCP works.
Here's a quick tutorial to get you started.  But then I suggest getting to know the editing system better.

  • Need help fixing video playback on iTunes and worried it will affect iphone

First of all, the black levels when playing videos on iTunes looked terrible.
I looked all over on how to fix this..
So then I installed the lastest nvidia graphics drivers to help with video playback
After install my videos black level was definatly better, I think.
But now all videos play wierdly in the corner of the itunes program..
    http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/8170/ituneshelp.png
I need help to fix this and I hope this dont affect playback on iphone 4

If exporting to i4 results in the same, there could be a problem with the movie itself. Try exporting to the i4 and replay the video. However if exporting to i4 plays okay on the phone, it's your Nvidia drivers. You can download the prior Nvidia drivers and downgrade.
There have been dozens of cases where Nvidia drivers even the newest ones have made a mess of games, movie playbacks, even viewing Windows programs.

  • I need help with videos?

I need help. I have a video in my library AND iPod. The problem is - the video PLAYS when I click it on iTunes, but when I try to play it on my video iPod, all it does is let me hear what they're saying, it doesn't show the video. Can somebody help me?

Hey, what is the link to downloading Videora? Ivé tried downloading it but it doesn't work. The program does not open after installing it. I get some sort of error message. I clicked on the Full Install one when downloading it.

  • Need help exporting video

(I have Premiere Pro CS4 and I'm pretty new to it)
All my videos are 640 by 480 AVI files and the frame rate is 30fps. What are the best settings to export these videos at?
For some reason when I set the dimensions at the beginning to 640 to 480, and then I set the Pixel Aspect Ratio to "Square Pixels" because that is the only setting that will give me a 4:3 ratio, which is what I need since the videos are 640 by 480. But when I go to 'Export', the dimensions have been changed to 720 by 480, and I can't change the settings. What should I do? (I'm trying to save them as AVI)

Can you give us the full details of these AVI files. If you do not have that, the great, free utility, G-SPOT will give it to you.
You will want to set your Project/Sequence to that. If necessary, choose Desktop for the Preset and then fill in all of the attributes to match your source footage.
What do you wish to Export to?
    What is your delivery scheme?
That will determine your Export settings in AME. You will need to choose a Preset that matches that. You have probably chosen a DV Preset.
    Good luck,

  • Need help inbedding video

    Hi Guys .
I have this picture of a cinema , and i want to imbed a video
into the cinema screen in the picture which you can see in the web
    page .
I have put the web page here so people can understand what i
    mean .
    http://www.uktechhelp.co.uk
    Thanks . rob

I can think of two ways that you should be able to accomplish
    this.
    1. Put your image as the background image and put the flash
    overtop, but
alignment in all browsers will be tricky.
    2. Slice your image into four sections, then putting these
    images into four
surrounding divs and create a center div for your movie to be
    in.
You will have an issue with the two "lights" that extend into
    the viewing
field of where the movie is to play.

  • Need help with video installation

    Hi,
I'm no DW guru, as I know just enough to do some damage... so I did
Anyhow, I am trying to install a video into my (ahem) purchased responsive web template, but each time I try a new approach, I keep getting "Invalid Source" when I "F12" it  -- Any Ideas?

It might be better to test video in a plain, unstyled web page first to ascertain exactly where your problems are.
Below is all the code necessary for a responsive HTML5 video player.  Change YourVideo.mp4, .ogv and .webm to your actual path & video file names.

  • Need Help Streaming Video From Web Server Built Into Application - Linksys WRT54g Router

Very much appreciate any help getting streaming video feed from web server built into video application to work properly using port forwarding on my Linksys WRT54g wireless router.
    Here is the situation:
My PC is connected to the internet via a Linksys WRT54g wireless router.
The Windows XP Pro SP2 firewall is enabled, with a firewall exception established for the video camera application.
On the router, forwarding of port 80 is enabled for the LAN IP address of the PC running the video application with an embedded web server, and the web server in the video camera application is also set to use port 80.
I have a free DYNDNS account and also run the DYNDNS updater program on the PC running the video application with embedded web server. According to the DYNDNS web site and the DYNDNS updater program, the IP address assigned to the machine running the video application with embedded web server is set correctly in my dyndns account.
When I open a browser (Explorer or Firefox) on the PC running the video camera application with embedded web server, I am able to  connect to the video application's web server by going to the dyndns address linked to the machine running the video application. The video application's web server is set to use the dyndns address. That's the good news. The bad news is that I can't connect to the video application's web server from any machine that connects to the internet that uses a router other than the router used by the PC running the video application. I am only able to connect to the streaming video from the application's web server only on machines that connect to the internet using the same (home) router used by the PC that is running the video application.
Since I am able to connect to the video app's embedded web server successfully on the machine running the video application, it seems that at least something about the current port forwarding settings is correct. For example, if I uncheck 'enable' for forwarding of port 80 on the router settings page, I am no longer able to connect to the video app's web server when I try to do so in a browser running on the machine running the video app. When I re-enable port 80 forwarding on the router, I am again able to connect to the web server of the video application on the machine running the video app. I thought that by enabling forwarding of port 80 on the router and associating that port with the LAN IP of the machine running the video application, it would be possible to connect to the streaming video of the video app's embedded web server from ANY machine connected to the internet, but that is not the case. There must be some other router settings to update/change in order to get the port forwarding working to enable a successful connection to the video web server, but I am stumped. Very grateful for any suggestions as to how to get this working properly.
    Thanks in advance...

The firewall log can be configured on the third tab in the window for the firewall settings, where you can turn the firewall on and off completely.
From your tests, though, it does not seem to be the firewall. However, to be sure, it would be good to check the log. It will help to eliminate the firewall as the culprit and you may find it handy in the future, too. ;-) Just don't forget to turn the log off again after you are done because it may cause some performance penalty on your system while on.
From what you write, it seems as if I should give a little networking background on the ip addresses you'll see. Your setup is (or should be) a modem connected to the WAN/Internet port of the WRT. The computer is connected into a LAN port of the WRT.
Your router has two IP addresses (that's what makes it a router): a WAN address and a LAN address. The WAN address is the address assigned by the ISP. It is a normal internet IP address. Everyone is able to send packets to this IP address. The WAN address is the one reported by whatismyipaddress.com, it should be listed in the dyndns record and it is the address that your router shows on the Status page. It's the public IP address of your router. Dyndns maps your dyndns.org name to that IP address.
Your router also has an IP address on the LAN side. You can configure it to be whatever you want. The default is 192.168.1.1 with netmask 255.255.255.0 and it is better to leave it like that or at least inside the network 192.168.*.*. 192.168 is a special, reserved IP address range for private networks. Basically, routers in the internet are not supposed to forward addresses in this range. That makes them suitable for private LANs as the packets never can get anywhere. Most people using Linksys routers have there LAN in 192.168.1.*.
The router acts as gateway, which means it forwards packets from PCs in the LAN to the internet and back. As all your PCs in your LAN share a single WAN IP address, the gateway does address translation (NAT). This works only in one direction: from the inside to the outside. The router remembers when a PC in your LAN sends something out and accepts the responses in and sending them back to the PC. If something comes in from the internet which cannot be associated with a ongoing communication the packet is dropped unless you use port forwarding.
All computers in your LAN either have a static IP address assigned or use DHCP to get it automatically. The router has a DHCP server as well which gives out IP address from 192.168.1.100-149 if not changed. With a router with default settings static IP addresses can be in the range of 192.168.1.2-99 and 150-254.
ipconfig /all reports your IP address in your LAN, i.e. an address 192.168.1.*. The gateway in this output should be 192.168.1.1 which is your router. And packet no in the LAN address range 192.168.1.* is send to the router which forwards the packets into the internet.
An address 192.168.1.* should not appear as internet address in the Status page of the router nor should it appear at dyndns.
Port forwarding is used to operate a server in the LAN. By default, a server in the LAN cannot be reached from the internet. You have to configure port forwarding for this. You configure that traffic bound for a specific port (e.g. TCP port 80 for http) on your WAN IP address is forwarded to the same port on a specific LAN IP address. If your server runs on 192.168.1.50 than traffic to your WAN IP address port 80 is forwarded to 192.168.1.50 port 80. That way your HTTP server can be reached from the internet. As you can only configure a fixed IP address in port forwarding it is recommended that the server uses a static IP address and not DHCP as in the latter case the IP address may change over time...
O.K. so much for networking. I hope that makes things a little clearer and you can verify that your setup is how it is intended to be.
I suggest the following: on the router's security page there is an option to block WAN requests. Remove the check if it is set (meaning: do not block). After you did that change you should be able to ping your WAN address (e.g. ping xxxx.dyndns.org) from the internet. That way we know that it is on the correct address.
Also on the Administration page make sure that remote management is disabled (should be like that per default) or that the management port is NOT 80 but for example 8080. What is your your UPnP settings on the same page?
O.K. that should be enough for the moment...

  • Need Help Importing Video Files Into Premiere Pro 1.5

    Hello,
I recently bought a JVC Everio with the built in hard drive so need for capturing anymore. Anyway, when I went to import the footage that I recorded on the camera, Premiere says "File Format Not Supported". When I dragged the clips off of the JVC's harddrive each clip had two files one type was a .MOI and the other type of clip said MOV and the clip number like MOV042 for clip number 42. Do I need some type of video converter to open these in Premiere? I can't even import them in Windows Movie Maker, they don't need to be great quality or anything just some music performance clips I wanted to throw on Youtube. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jason

After my "learning session," I also thought of another resource for you. Besides the PE forum (in the old days, I know that they had a FAQ on the JVC files, but I do not think that it has been restored yet), you might want to post to the "Community" area, basically their fora, over at Muvipix. I know that there has been much discussion on the JVC files there, and believe that several forum members use those cameras. Might be some easy steps to convert your files so that PrPro can use them properly.
    Good luck,
