I need help uploading from iTunes to iPod

I just received the 60GB iPod for Christmas and I love it! I've figured out how to upload video and music and all that...but I don't want to store these giant video files on my computer just so that I can have them on the iPod. But I'm afraid that if I move them to storage on CD that when I update the Ipod will miss them and remove them from my ipod since they aren't on the playlist.
I have changed it so that the iPod doesn't automatically update each time I connect it to the computer, but my question is this:
Is there a way to upload just one file at a time to the iPod without it going back and uploading the entire library each time? Or remove/change what's already on the iPod? Does that make any sense?
Help!
Amy

Chapter 7 goes over creating a libsyn account, setting up your RSS feed and uploading your first episode.
Chapter 10 goes over submitting your RSS feed to iTunes and Stitcher.

  • Cd music uploaded from itunes to ipods

I am currently uploading my cds to itunes via my computer. I want to be able to import them to multiple ipods( shuffle and nano). Both my ipods and ipad are synced to this same computer. But only the items I purchased from itunes are being uploaded to my ipod shuffle. All songs, including uploaded CDs uploaded to ipad effortlessly.
    Help.

Yes, you can drag and drop the files to your device, there isnt any reason you cant copy the mp3 files, the files are simply mp3 files and itunes just creates a database file that the iphones and ipod uses, if you plug a iphone in and unhide all files in windows explorer you will see that the mp3 files are on device hidden in folders. There isnt anything special about itunes files other than the DRM files are a little diffrent than windows files but still any mp3 convertor software can modify them..

You will understand that this is a user-to-user forum and I don't have access to the inner workings of the Store; so what I have to say is effectively guesswork.
There appears to be no technical problem with your feed - that at least isn't a guess - but your podcast consists of 'mixes' of recordings which you list. A possible explanation is concern that you are making use of copyright material for which you haven't either obtained written permission from the copyright owners, or a valid podcasting licence from a recognized authority. Making use of commercially issued (or indeed any) material without the permission of the owners is a breach of copyright, and is one of the reasons listed by Apple for podcast rejection (the others don't appear to apply here) - Apple could be be held jointly liable and sued (as could you).
If you have in fact obtained the necessary clearances you will need to find some way of communicating this to Apple.

  • Failed upload from itunes to ipod- no explanation

I loaded a bunch of CD’s into itunes and when I went to sync my ipod, it wouldn’t work like it did a few hours earlier. itunes showed the ipod was there and the dialogue box said it was transferring the songs, but after 15 or 20 minutes, I ejected it and the songs were not on there. usually when it’s synching it tells you number 10 out of 100 or whatever song is loading, but it didn’t come up this time. I tried to consolidate my library, thinking that may help, but it said something about the disk not being there or something but had no error number for me to reference. the usb port works. I restored my ipod and reinstalled itunes and rebooted, but nothing helped. Does anyone know what this is about?

  • Help-Upload from IPOD back toG5  How to?

We recently lost our hard drive on our G5. Partially backed up only. Entire Tunes Library was lost. Vast majority were imported from CDs, not purchased from I-Tunes library. So, my question is this. Is there anyway for me to upload all of the tunes on my IPOD back to my G5 I Book?
Any suggestions? Thank you. We also have a MACBOOK if that helps.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod.
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

Senuti Mac Only (Currently only the beta version is iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Problems Moving Ripped DVD from Itunes to Ipod

Problems Moving Ripped DVD from Itunes to Ipod
I am having a problem transfering ripped DVD's from the Itunes Video folder to the actual Ipod. I thought one of the cool points of the Video Ipod was that you could play DVD's on it. I know I needed to use special software to achieve this since I researched it here. I am using Handbrake Lite since regular Handbrake look too daunting for me. I also used Isquint, since it was recommened here. I used both without changing anything on both of those progams other than click the go button. The DVD's will play in Itunes but it won't allow me to drag them to the Ipod. They are in the Video folder in Itunes. What in the wild, wild world of sports am I do'in wrong? I assume it's something stupid because the device is stellar. Hope someone out there can lend us a hand.
    Kind Regards,
    Julias

I am having a similar problem, and i cant contact ipod 2 ask 4 help - its not explainedo online:
my ipod will only upload video podcasts, no ordinary videos, except for one. they are all the same format (.MOV quicktime), and my i tunes has them all on it and plays them fine there, its just when i drag and drop or insert my videos onto my ipod any other way theydont get uploaded onto my ipod like everything else does, there seems no way that i can get my own videos onto it. only one video that isnt a podcast has ever uploaded, and its the same format as the others!
Any ideas or help would be apprichiated ( i cant spell:P)

  • Recover deleted songs from iTunes using iPod

I will preface by saying, I am an idiot, so please phrase your answers like you're talking to a 10 year old. I have a new Mac (my first) and I had iTunes all set up and working correctly until somehow I deleted a folder with half my music in it. It is all on my iPod, however. How do I get it from my iPod back into iTunes? There is some SINCERE gratitude here for anyone who can help.

If your iPod is set to update automatically you can use a keyboard command to prevent it auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer.
Change your update setting to manual so that you can use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are relatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Can't get new music from iTunes to iPod

I currently have an iPod Touch.  Have downloaded the most current iTunes.  Have the latest software update for the iPod.  For numbers sake, I have 75 songs on the computer iTunes, 300 on the iPod.  Want to get music and playlists from iTunes onto iPod.  Have repeatedly tried syncing to no avail.  I don't want to erase everything off the iPod in order to do so.  Likewise, how the heck do I get the extra 225 songs from the iPod onto my iTunes??  All of the trouble started when I 1) added an iPhone into the mix and had multiple devices involved and 2) did the most recent iTunes update (which I HATE!!!!)
So how the heck do I do this??  I do not have a 7 year old in the household to tell me how to do this.

Transferring tracks from an iPod back to iTunes has been covered here a number of times already, but again:
First, you need to prevent automatic synchronzation with a blank copy of iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys in Windows. This should stop the iPod from auto synching with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 25 seconds depending on your computer.
Then if you're using iTunes 7, you can then copy music that you purchased from the iTunes Store back to iTunes directly (use the Transfer Purchases From iPod command under the iTunes File menu).
If you're not using iTunes 7 or want to copy back other tracks, the easiest way will be to search VersionTracker for "iPod". You'll find a number of utilities that can transfer your tracks and your playlists from your iPod back to your PC.
It's also possible to do this manually, but the procedure is rather involved. If you're interested, though, see this thread:
    MacMuse: Computer crashed
    Hope this helps.
