I need help with imac g4 flat panel download of leopard it tells me it cannot load on the system.

i bought a refurbished imac g4 flat panel. it is supposed to have an os but it only comes up with a question mark. I put leopard in and it tells me it cannot load on this compuert. system is 800mhz and 60g hd and 768ram.   i have tried to do a fix through the utility and it says it does not exit and kicks me out.  ANY HELP IS A PLUS.

Try holding down the option key then power on. This brings up the startup manager. Click on your hd. Click on right arrow key.
Sometimes if volumes don't appear in Startup Manager (what you get when you hold down the Option key at startup), you need to reset the Mac's PRAM, NVRAM, and Open Firmware. Shut down the Mac, then power it up, and before the screen lights up, quickly hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys, until the Mac has chimed twice more after the powerup chime. Then, before the screen lights up, hold down Command-Option-O-F until the Open Firmware screen appears. Then enter these lines, pressing Return after each one:
reset-nvram
set-defaults
reset-all
"The reset-all command should restart your Mac. If so, you have successfully reset the Open Firmware settings."

You have got get in open firmware to hack the mhz to be higher for the install.  That is change what the machine reports as the mhz to be a higher number.  Details:

This works on Tiger but I assume it would work on Leoard.

I tend to think dashboard is neat, but not neccesary for my everyday workflow.
it is possible to enable and disable it as needed,
by entering the following commands into the terminal:
-- To turn Dashboard off:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
-- To turn Dashboard on:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO
-- You have to restart the Dock after making either change for it to take effect:
killall Dock
Bye Bye Dashbaord

  • Wireless connectivity with iMac G4 flat panel

    Hey everybody,
We are thinking about buying an airport card for our imac G4 flat panel. We live in Ireland and are in the process of switching from a satellite dish-based Internet provider (connected via ethernet cable from the roof through the wall to the iMac) to our cable TV providers for a less expensive connection. The cable modem will be up in the TV room (the only cable CATV point that works), where we will attach a wireless router that will allow Internet access to the iMac downstairs and the iBook anywhere else in the house. Our cable providers offer 1, 2, 3 and 6 MB download speed packages. Here are the questions:
    1) Is the "Apple Part No. M7600LL/E" available on macwireless.com the right one for our flat panel iMac G4 from 2003?
    2) Is there any advantage to the airport card versus using a bridge? If so, which bridge is appropriate and easy to configure?
    3) Which wireless router is recommendable to link with the cable modem upstairs?
    4) Will the connection be strong enough between the router and the airport card or bridge to provide full speed and, possibly, VoIP (saving dough to one day be able to upgrade to a 20-inch iMac! LOL)? The distance is about 8 meters.
    5) If we later upgrade to a new iMac and give our son the flat panel will everything still plug and play?
    6) Which download speed package do we need to make everything run smoothly?
    7) Is it really feasible for a "layperson" to install the card themselves?
    Thanks again for your help!

Forgot to say in my other post. There's no need to buy at that price ($199) and pay for shipping - there are plenty of UK/IE options for buying.
There are also alternatives like Ethernet over Mains electricity (14 or 85Mbps) which may be a better option than original Airport.

  • Need help with iMac OSX backup

    Hi,
I currently have a mac book air running osx 10.8.
And i recently purchased a imac running osx 10.8.
I need help with the backup feature between my imac and macbook air.
I work with excel files a lot, using Microsoft office for mac.
so basically what i want is to have a 2 way backup between my imac and macbok air.
That is, when i make any changes, create or delete a file in either of the system, i want the other system to make the change automatically.
For example when i make changes to a spreadsheet (excel file) on my imac, i want the same to be updated automatically on my macbook air, and vice versa.
I want both the machines to have the same files, updating the files as they get modified. or deleting if its deleted on any one of the system. Like a 2 way sync.
Kindly let me know if theres any way to do this.  or something similar that can help me, like i mainly require the excel spreadsheets to be updated, system files, other libraries are not important.
I can also put all my files in a single folder if thats required.
Ps. Both the machines are connected on the same network, and i can also hook a external drive for the backup purpose if required.
I searched google for softwares and couldnt find the appropriate ones.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Let me know if you require any more info on this.
    Thanks
    Gaurav.

  • Need help with iMac intel desktop - Mac mail consistently going OFFLINE

I need help with Mac mail - it is frequently going "offline" and requesting me to "take all accounts online". My internet is working. It's been checked, checked and checked. Sometimes it just takes a reboot of the system and the modem to kick it in and make the little triangle symbol go away, but should I have to reboot daily? I have the Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 installed. Is there a bug here or am I supposed to upgrade to Mavericks? Any help is most appreciated.

For me this is an issue caused by my email service provider.  When they are slow to respond or to accept the password Mail takes that as a password rejection, and prompts me to reenter password, and eventually goes offline.

  • Need Help with iMac G4     No Dial Tone

    I am working on a friend's iMac G4 800 Mhz. Has Mac X 10.2.3 OS. Internal Apple 56K V.90 Modem.
The modem gives error "no dial tone". This just recently started happening for no apparent reason. Tried different phone cable and tested the wall jack for dial tone on a connected phone. All tests OK.
This modem is "built in". Is this problem fixable? Is it a hardware or a settings issue?
The only fix I can think of is an external modem, but would like to fix the internal one if possible.
Any ideas? Any and all advice is appreciated. I'm new to Macs, so I have limited knowledge of the system.
    Thanks,
    Jim
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Hello,Try going Apple Menu > System Preferences... > Network > Show: Internal Modem > Modem tab > uncheck the wait for dialling tone option.
    Does that solve it?

  • Need help with Imac G5 Model A1145 for resetting to factory settings

Hi - I am new to the Mac world.  I recently inherited an iMac G5 Model A1145.  I am trying to reset the hard drive to factory settings.  It came with no discs whatsoever.  I've tried to push the option button upon restart or command + R but I never get a Disk Utility screen.
This iMac has no CD drive with it (although I do have a USB CD drive that I could use if necessary).
Does anyone know how I can reset the hard drive back to factory settings??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

"command + R but I never get a Disk Utility screen.": These old iMacs don't have this feature.
you'll need a disc. If you don't have any, you'll need to find one: http://www.macworld.com/article/2101301/advice-from-an-apple-tech-how-to-get-old -mac-os-x-install-discs.html

  • Need Help with iMac 350 - Won't boot - keyboard or mouse not working!

    Hello,
I've scoured the web looking for answers, and can't find any, so maybe someone here would be kind enough to help. I'm working on an imac 350 blueberry for my sister and I'm having all sorts of trouble.
She bought it last week, it started up (8.6 os) no problem. Powered up and down a few times, then all of a sudden, it won't boot. I'm currently getting blinking folder/happymac/question mark when trying to start up.
Here's the big problem - the keyboard and mouse do not work now. I've tried three different mice and three keyboards and no dice with any of them. I have the 8.6 CD from her previous imac (bondi), and I can hear it spinning, but there is no way to start up from cd.
I've also tried 2 other hard drives with the same results.
Tried resetting CUDA on logic board, taking out battery, no change. Bought new battery- no change.
I would love to at least get the keyboard working to see if I can even startup from cd, anyone have any clues on how to get it working? The strange thing is that the keyboard has a power on button, and it works to start the thing up, but dies when it tries to boot. Sometimes I just get a grey screen with the pointer icon, and I can move the pointer with the mouse for a second or two, then no response.
I appreciate any help or suggestions on locating the issues!
    Thank you!

When I said "but dies when it tries to boot" and "..then no response." I meant that the keyboard works to power up the computer, but won't work for anything else. So, I am figuring that the usb ports are supplying power to the keyboard and mouse, but the usb ports aren't relaying information from the keyboard or mouse.
How do you know the mouse isn't working? Won't you have to wait until later in the boot to tell?
The poweron key is a special case. I think that it works by lowering/changing the voltage on one of the usb cables. I read about this somewhere. Anyway, this function was eliminated from later usb keyboards and macs. Maybe a working power button doesn't mean what you think.
I would love to boot into open firmware
Could you try powering up from the machine? Is there a power button on the lower right of the machine?
Have you tried this key combo?
    commandoption+of
The letters are in lower case. Hold all down then poweron the machine. I'd poweron from the machine as apposed to the keyboard.
You could try another usb keyboard.
We actually did boot up the computer several times with it upside down. Not for any reason, except it's become a real PIA to flip it over every two minutes to start it, then take it apart and boot again. When booting either upside down or right side up it shows the same thing - blinking folder w/finder icon and question mark.
Yes, I agree. You could try removing the clear plastic around the bottom of the machine. At least you will not have to slide in the carriage. Note. The tv portion will still be surrounded by plastic! Don't remove the plastic around the tv!
Hope I am not interfering with Richard and his comments.
Richard: Is this the orginal keyboard? When did Apple get rid of the poweron key from the keyboard? My iMac 600 didn't have the key and my iMac 233 does.

Hi Kirk, not much to go on there for me, sorry.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Really need help with my iPad Mini, it was a ipad found and restored but it it asking the ID of the propriter.

After months, I got a iPad mini at my job that was to someone that never came back to claim it. Disabled, I've been able to restore it, althought it is asking the ID of the person that had it, and can't put mine since it ask the the other person's ID to activate it.. So I would like to know if there's a way to take my ID and use it?

No, there isn’t. The activation lock is an anti-theft measure; Apple won’t remove it for anyone other than the original owner(assuming they’re alive.)

  • IMac G4 (Flat Panel) Hard Drive Replacement Cost

I have an 800 mHz iMac G4 (Flat Panel) that was originally purchased in approximately 2002 or 2003. The hard drive has died. I have three questions:
What is an approximate cost for a new hard drive?
Where can a hard drive for this computer be purchased?
What do I need for an OS installation disk? I no longer have the install disk that came with the computer. I believe it came with Panther, but had since been upgraded to Tiger.
    Many thanks.

Finding the drive is the easy part. Any of the hard drives on this page:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/search/3.5InternalIDE/ATA
will work. Your iMac uses IDE/ATA or PATA drives, not the later SATA drives. PATA drives are getting harder to find and the vendor I linked is one of the few who still carries them. Older iMac G4s may or may not recognize disks larger than 128GB. If yours doesn't, you'll have to partition any new drive so there is a Mac Extended HFS+ partition that's about 125GB and leave the rest unformatted. It's a hardware limitation common 8 years ago.
The next problem is that the iMAc is one of the most challenging Macs to take apart and service, and you have to go deep inside to get to the hard drive. You literally enter at your own risk. There is a significant chance of the computer not working afterward unless you can find someone who knows how. Apple does not work on these any more so you'll have to find a person or firm with Apple experience.
You are about to find out how expensive misplacing the system disks (CD or DVD) can be. To reinstall the OS, you need either the original gray disks that came with your computer or a full retail install disk set. The later for Tiger is no longer available from Apple and those copies on the market are going for up to US$250. That greatly exceeds the value of a G4 iMac on the used market. There is such demand for Tiger that the criminal element has sneaked in; I've seen blatantly illegal version of Tiger offered on auction sites. They are as expensive as the real deal and may not work.
It's remotely possible that you can call Apple and give your serial number and they can find a gray disk set that matches. However, the are out of those sets for computers made in 2004 so it's a long shot.
Your best bet may be to connect with a Mac User Group. They often have people who do pro bono service and may have system software as a reduced price compared to the price-gouging going on in the open market. This page can help you find a group near you:

  • Need help with calculator project for an assignment...

Hi all, I please need help with my calculator project that I have to do for an assignment.
Here is the project's specifications that I need to do"
"""Create a console calculator applicaion that:
    * Takes one command line argument: your name and surname. When the
program starts, display the date and time with a welcome message for the
    user.
    * Display all the available options to the user. Your calculator must include
the arithmetic operations as well as at least five scientific operations of the
    Math class.
-Your program must also have the ability to round a number and
    truncate it.
-When you multiply by 2, you should not use the '*' operator to perform the
    operation.
-Your program must also be able to reverse the sign of a number.
    * Include sufficient error checking in your program to ensure that the user
only enters valid input. Make use of the String; Character, and other
    wrapper classes to help you.
    * Your program must be able to do conversions between decimal, octal and
    hex numbers.
    * Make use of a menu. You should give the user the option to end the
program when entering a certain option.
    * When the program exits, display a message for the user, stating the
current time, and calculate and display how long the user used your
    program.
    * Make use of helper classes where possible.
    * Use the SDK to run your program."""
When the program starts, it asks the user for his/her name and surname. I got the program to ask the user again and again for his/her name and surname
when he/she doesn't insert anything or just press 'enter', but if the user enters a number for the name and surname part, the program continues.
Now my question is this: How can I restrict the user to only enter 'letters' (and spaces of course) but allow NO numbers for his/her surname??
Here is the programs code that I've written so far:
