I need help with video

I cant get a video onto my ipod. i've tried dragging it over to the ipod icon and it just says that the video cant be played on my ipod, and my ipod is one of the ipod videos! it *****!

First of all Barbara, if this question had actually been answered previously, there likely would not be 20,678 threads all boasting the same dilemma. And last I checked, this was a support forum. I personally have spent hours on end reading old threads on video issues with no clear solutions; oh there were a number of replies (many of which were posted by yourself and “GFF” among others), but no solutions… which, by the way actually defines the word “answer”.
Now I realize you may feel like this is a personal attack, but understand that it is not. I use the word “you” to represent yourself, “GFF”, and all others in a position to help who choose not too, but rather as a chance to demean others in an effort to make yourselves feel as if though your life has some special meaning.
Secondly, not only are you wasting our time (and I use the word “our” collectively in representation of all of us seeking actual help), by telling us to find the answers ourselves to questions we don’t even know to ask, you are being arrogant, disrespectful, condescending ******!
When you take your car to a mechanic for inspection or repair, would it not seem out of place to be told that it’s a simple problem and some basic study would do the trick? Would you be particularly interested in hearing that this mechanic had 10 years of experience in his chosen field and had never encountered problems with any of his/her cars?

And finally, if you do not intend to offer advice, don’t reply. Very simple. I’m confident you can handle that. No one likes to be criticized for what they do not understand. For example, if I were to suggest you may lack certain social skills required in dealing effectively with others, and further suggest you adopt some… lets say, humility and tact, you may be similarly unappreciative.

Need Help With Videos on Zen V P

I need help putting videos on my Creative Zen V Plus. I convert them to avi using Super Converter and I drag and drop them into the folder for the videos on my zen. When I turn on my Zen and go to the videos the video is there however when I try to play it it says video format not supported.

Neither Quicktime Pro or iTunes have the ability to successfully encode a muxed video file with audio. You'll end up with video and no audio.
You'll need to use some other third-party software to do the conversion. There's a handful of software available. Just search the forums and you'll find many titles mentioned.
Videora iPod Converter seems to be popular amongst Windows users, although I've read that you might get mixed results using it.

Need help with video-scroll

Hello,
I need some help with a project. What I eventually want is that a webcam controls the mouse position and the mouse position
controls a video. But first I would like the part where the mouse position controls the video.
So if the mouse is on the left on your screen the video will be at the first frame and when you move you're mouse to
the right the video will play accordingly to the movement. and stop when the mouse is all the way to the right.
Effectivly the mouse scrolles through the video. It only needs to be on the x-axis.
I'm not that formilliar with flash so any help would be great

Need help with video problems

Back in May I was having problems with video on my Mac. I was helped by this site and am hoping for more help. I downloaded the realaudio, but was still having problems. I assumed because I was on dial up. It was so slow. It would take forever to load and then play for a few minutes then need to load some more. I now have DSL and was looking forward to kissing the video problems good-bye! My new problem is that when I try to watch or listen to anything like innertube it "stutters." Is there something else I should be doing? How can I fix this problem?

In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).

In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

i need help! i have a 30G ipod video and my videos are being weird. They used to play on my ipod but now there is no picture or sound. it plays on itunes too so i dont understand. Also, my purchased music plays on itunes but skips past them on my ipod-they used to play on my ipod. PLEASE help me!

So what are they doing? Are the videos showing up under "Videos" on the iPod? What happens when you try to play them? Have you tried these?

For Purchased Music Skipping:
Have you played the songs in iTunes for a few seconds? This will authorize them. Now sync your iPod. Do they play?
If not, make sure everything is up to date on your computer and iPod..

If that doesn't work, in iTunes, go to advanced-->deauthorize computer. Now play the songs in iTunes. It will ask for your account information (from the iTunes Music Store). Enter that. Now play a few purchased songs for a few seconds. Sync your iPod. Do the songs work now?
If they don't, try this...
Deauthorize the computer. (Go to advanced-->deauthorize computer in iTunes)
Create a new user in the system. (Start-->control panel-->user accounts-->create a new account)
Download the free song of the week in the new user account. (First, log out of the current user and log in to the new user account. Then open iTunes and download the free song)
Play the song in that username to authorize it.
Restore the iPod in the New User account, sync just the Free song of the Week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it plays fine on the iPod when syncing with this user name (after you followed the above instructions), it would indicate a bad iTunes Library File. Post back for instructions on how to fix that.
Now, if it still won't work (you followed the above instructions with the new user account) and the iPod still won't play the songs, then post back.

Need Help With Video In Flex Mobile

Hi,
I have been searching quite a bit for information on this and have found really nothing useful for my problem. So far, I've converted the actionscript code posted here: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/osmf-media-player.html
to work within my ios mobile project. The problem is that no matter what I have tried, I can hear the video but not see it. That codes uses the OSMF framework, which uses StageVideo I think, so I've tried setting the application background alpha to 0 as has been posted about; still no video though. The project is also set to use direct rendering. I've even tried some bare bones AS code to implement the StageVideo, as others have posted here, but still same thing. So can anyone either show me a working example or provide any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Need help with video uploading in flex 4

hey guys... so i need to create a video uploading application... with video chunking...
basically i need to break up the video file (may be 1Gig or more in size) in pieces and send it to the server using a method i call from my webservice...
any ideas??
i believe this process is called chunking... not sure how to do this...

dude. some time itunes just doesnt support drag and drop techniques . just try the simple copy and paste(ctrl(c+v)). if that file is gonna be played on the ipod u get a small tab box in the itunes that the file which u r copying is being processed .
even if this technique doesnt work , then thats a faulty format . u can try another video converter . say videora or Aplus video converter . u will find them in www.download.com

Is there anyway to put ripped videos into other categories besides just Movies? I would like to put some of them under Music Videos, is that possible?

I need help. I have a video in my library AND iPod. The problem is - the video PLAYS when I click it on iTunes, but when I try to play it on my video iPod, all it does is let me hear what they're saying, it doesn't show the video. Can somebody help me?

It might be better to test video in a plain, unstyled web page first to ascertain exactly where your problems are.

FCP Novice needs help with video quality and FCP 5!!

Hi,
I have a real problme that I cannot seem to fix. I think its because I am doing something really wrong!
I have a Sony HC42E MiniDV Camcorder which by default records video in full widescreen. I recorded several tapes this way and have now begun trying to edit them in FCP 5.04 (Tiger 10.4.6). Whenever I log and capture my clips they appear to be fuzzzy and unclear on the Mac monitor whilst being totally crisp and sharp on the camcorder viewfinder. I tried capturing using the DV PAL 48Khz Anamorphic Preset which keeps everything the right size (the final output needs to be true widescreen and not with black bars added) but the resulting video on screen is blurry and bitty. I then tried capturing using the DV PAL 720 x 576 normal preset and the video is a little clearer on the screen (for both presets I have chosen lower field dominance) but when I play back it plays back in widescreen on the mac canvas window but at 4:3 on the camera's viewfinder.
I then assumed that maybe this is just becuase the mac screen (CRT by the way) doesn't use fields. So I exported the sequence as a QT movie using DV PAL 16:9 and used quicktime (OS9 Classic - my compressor has never worked because of the dreaded "unable to connect to baackground process" problem which I've never managed to correct) to convert it to MPEG2. When I import this as an asset into DVD Studio pro 4 and set the track size to 16:9 it comes through at the right aspect ratio. However it looks blurry on screen. Thinking that this will be fine on a TV I burned the disc - inserted it into my DVD player (a good one!) and watched it on my new 32" widescreen TV (a good one!) and the picture qualitty is poor. Its so much blurrier and bittier than the original footage looks when played through the camcorder's viewfinder!
The final footaage looks like an old VHS recording that's a year or two old!
Does anyone know how I can capture my footage in FCP with the maximum quality, edit it without quality loss and the export it for DVD again without such significant quality loss whilst all the time keeping it at proper 16:9 widescreen?
Is there some presets I should be working to?
I'm tearing my hair out! Help!

Brian, I followed your instructions and the DVD burned successfully. However the video quality of the dvd when viewed on my TV ('ve tried on all 3 of my tvs now) is still a lot poorer than the quicktime movie that was imported into DVDSP4. When I play the original QT Movie on my Mac CRT monitor it looks a little blurry and grainy because I guess its non interlaced however when viewed on an external Video monitor it looks great - very sharp.
When I view the burned DVD on my television the picture quality looks like the non interlaced version of the original QT Movie that appeared on my Mac CRT and not the sharp interlaced (lower field) version that appeared on my external video monitor.
Its almost like taking a sharp jpeg into Photoshop and applying a gaussian blur of about 0.3 followed by jepg compression compressing it down to 5% quality!
I'm totally mystified. Can the conversion to Mpeg2 be removing all interlacing so that you get the less sharp computer monitor look? I just want the video on my final DVDs to be as good as the original source footage! I appreciate that along the way there might be loss of some quality but surely not that much?
Does this make sense to you guys or am I still doing something very wrong?
Robert: I have tried setting all manner of drives including a fresh external firewire HD with nothing on it (clean out of the box) but it doesn't seem to help.
Brian: I tried the no network suggestion a few months back but I'm not sure if I got it right. At the moment I have broadband through an external speedtouch usb modem and am also connected (occasionally although not for the last 3 months) via a crossover cable to my PCs ethernet card. When I last tried the No Network solution I had immense trouble getting my internet to work again! Can you please help me by directing me to the best ay to do this while protecting my internet settings?

Need help with video on older Mac Pro

I have a 2008 Mac Pro that more than meets all of the specs for FCP X, except the Mac App store won't let me buy and download because the video card in the system doesn't meet specs. I've found an apple support page that lists the compatible video cards for FCP X. Here's my issues:
1. Most of the cards on the list are older and not easily obtainable anymore.
2. Even with models that are newer, it's had to find one labeled for Mac - so can I just use any old model of, say, a Radeon HD 5670 or do I need one specificlaly made for Macs?
3. Bottom line is what card can I use in a 2008 Mac Pro that will meet the specs and that I can actually purchase?

A Radeon HD 5670 is a Radeon HD 5670 - if it's on the compatible list, it will work in your Mac.
This is my pet checklist for questions regarding FCP X performance - you may have already addressed some of the items but it's worth checking.
Make sure you're using the latest version of the application - FCP X 10.0.5 runs very well on my 2009 MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16 GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB. I run it with Lion 10.7.5.
First, check that you have at least 20% free space on your system drive.
For smooth playback without dropping frames, make sure 'Better Performance' is selected in the FCP X Preferences - Playback Tab.
If you have not already done so, move your Projects and Events to a fast (Firewire 800 or faster) external HD. Make sure the drive's formatted OS Extended (journalling's not required for video). You should always keep at least 20% free space on the Hard Drives that your Media, Projects and Events are on.
Check the spec of your Mac against the system requirements:

If you are getting crashes, there is some conflict on the OS. Create a new (admin) user account on your system and use FCP X from there - if it runs a lot better, there's a conflict and a clean install would be recommended.
Keep projects to 20 mins or less. If you have a long project, work on 20 min sections then paste these into a final project for export.
If you ever experience dropped frames, I strongly recommend you use ProRes 422 Proxy - it edits and plays back like silk because the files are small but lightly compressed (not much packing and unpacking to do) - but remember to select 'Original or Optimised Media' (FCP X Preferences > Playback) just before you export your movie, otherwise it will be exported at low resolution.
If you have plenty of processor power, for the ultimate editing experience, create Optimised Media - most camera native files are highly compressed and need a great deal of processor power to play back - particularly if you add titles, filters or effects. ProRes 422 takes up much more hard drive space but is very lightly compressed. It edits and plays back superbly.
Hide Audio Waveforms at all times when you don't need them (both in Browser and Storyline / Timeline). They take up a lot of processor power. (Use the switch icon at the bottom-right of your timeline to select a format without waveforms if you don't need them at the moment, then switch back when you do).
Create folders in the Project and Events libraries and put any projects you are not working on currently, in those folders. This will help a lot. There's a great application for this, called Event Manager X - for the tiny cost it's an invaluable application.

Unless you cannot edit and playback without it, turn off Background Rendering in Preferences (under Playback) - this will help general performance and you can always render when you need to by selecting the clip (or clips) and pressing Ctrl+R.
The biggest single improvement I saw in performance was when I upgraded the RAM from 8 GB to 16.

Need help with video shoot

Not sure if this is the right place for something like this or not, but here goes. Anyway, looking for some help for a shoot I want to do. I'm pretty experienced, use FCP. Not exactly sure of how to describe what I'm needing to do, but it seems like it's just a lighting technique, with what maybe is a Lens Flare effect added. Just a black background with a light behind the subject that makes the effect (and obviously front light on the subject). A better way to see what I mean is by watching a video like this, starting at :08.
So, I think I pretty much know how it'd be done, but just need to get some better insight since it's something I haven't done before. I don't have access to a studio or anything really. So my main questions on getting this to work...how far back does that light need to be? And behind the light can you just use a black backdrop or does it need to be in a big studio with open, non-lit space behind it? Any help here on the best way to get something like this done would be greatly appreciated!

I use Sapphire Edge lens flare effect for this type of thing it is a little expensive (well to me it was) but you get a year of collections each month and they are very useful have a look here.

Delete/uninstall all Seagate and WD software. It is not needed by OS X and can cause variety of issues.
Also, if you are still using an old RIM Blackberry cell phone, be advised that the supporting RIM Blackberry software has not been updated in many years and will never be updated for any of the newer versions of OS X.
If you no longer use a Blackberry cell phone or you don't really use the installed Blackberry support software any longer, completely uninstall this software, too!
