I just bought a macbook pro with Lion ... how do I get iDVD, my iLive does not contain?

iDVD does not ship with new Macs anymore. To get it, you need to purchase iLife '11 boxed set from an Apple Store. You cannot download it from the App Store.

That seems to be supported only up through 10.5.7 and probably needs Rosetta for it to run.
Rosetta is not included in 10.7.
If this is the case, you may need to partition your hard drive, install Windows on it, and use that partition for your work.

I have just bought a new mac book pro with lion. I have a Ibook g4 with the latest 10.4 and I can't get the migration assistant to work the pro still says to update the g4 machine and I have used the latest update.

I can't seam to get the migration to work between my g4 running 10.4 with all the upgrades including migration assistant 1.0.6 to talk to my new Pro.
The pro tells me to upgrade the g4's migration assistant and that has been done as much as I can find.

I can't add printers to my new mac book pro with retina display

I am trying to set up my HP wireless printer to my new mac book pro with retina display. I can't get it to work! I have down loaded the latest driver for my printer, and when I go into the printer area and try and add the printer, nothing shows up and it won't let me even add it. I can't seem to connect my mac directly to my printer either as I must need a different cord as there does not seem to be a port for the "phone like jack" that I could fall back on with my old Mac. My printer prints great so I hate to just buy a new printer, but I can't get this to work. My wireless router is located in the basement, far away from where I keep my printer so it also makes it hard to rest everything. I even bought the blue tooth adaptor for the HP printer thinking that would solve it all, and nope! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have made some progress.... I can print wirelessly from my printer now, but I can't set the printer itself to be wireless. I had to move my printer downstairs to where my router is...which is not that convient. I printed up the page you asked about....and as expected, it says it is off line and there is no IP address. So now I need to figure out how to make my printer itself wireless. I did download the HP driver I needed...but I can't access it to do anything else. It seems l like I am missing a step... or I need to hook up my computer itself to the printer to help get the printer to be wirelss, but I can't hook it up because there is no port for me to do that (no port that looks like a phone jack). I am guessing I would need a different type of cord, but I am not sure what kind of cord that would be! Ugh!

I use Keynote everday, it does exactly what it says it will do, that is if your NOT using Mountain LIon.

Copy the contents of the Elements 8 in a pen drive(from a Mac that has the capability) and then copy the contents to your disk(on the new machine i.e. Mac book Pro) and run the installer. If this is not possible you can download the installer directly from here.

The new Mac's do not have analog audio in so you will have to go with a USB audio in device or else if you do not yet own a turntable (or are looking to upgrade) you could get a turntable that has USB out.
The Griffin Technology iMic USB Audio Device is a low cost consumer grade solution if you already have a turntable.
For recording I use Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder which does a good job and has the ability to run the audio signal through various filters.

Brand New Mac Book Pro with defective screen

Hi Guys,
Does anyone here, purchased a brand new Mac Book Pro 13-inch: 2.9GHz with a defective screen?
I bought mine, Last June 14. I just noticed the defect last June 29 and returned it to where I purchase it at june 30.
There are somewhat 'black smudges' on the left part of the screen. I'm a graphic designer, so i know that this is a big issue for me.
Also, the fact that I'm just using it for 5 times I think, since I bought it, and there's already an issue.
At first, i was battling with the customer service (from where i bought it), They wouldn't want to give me replacement, because I already exceeded their 7 day return policy. But I'm not giving in, so then they just told me, they would send it to apple service.
It took a week for a progress, then I just got a call from Apple, that they didn't saw it either (the defect). Then I told the guy what I saw.
It's only visible with black background and with the lights turned off.
So he called again and told me that he also saw it, and told me that they would replace the Monitor.
I'm new with this, is it normally ok, that they will just replace the monitor? I mean, would it still work properly, now that they've
opened it and replaced only the defective part?

Not sure what part of the world you are in but Apple has a 14 day return policy. But even with the 14 days you exceeded that time limit. So the only option is to replace the defective part and not the whole system. This is standard operating practices for any manufacturer once you have exceeded the return period.

Mac book pro with lion very sluggish

I have a mac book pro running lion 10.7.5 with 8GB of RAM; last few months has be come very sluggish. Any clean up or other things i can do to restore to orignial performance?

IDVD not on new Mac Book Pro

I have recently purchased a mac book pro for home movie editiing and dvd burning for family only to find that the new mac's don't come with iDVD. I am really annoyed that this information wasn't avaiable when purchasing as I would not have brought such an expensive computer if it didn't have what I needed. I was told by apple support that I could get iDVD off some who had it, I have since done that but keep getting this message - Quit iDVD and install iDVD again, or click "Look for Themes" and locate the themes folder.
Can any one give some advice, I just want to burn a home movie created in imovie.

When I bought the Mac Book Pro at the Apple Store they told me that iLife 11 does no more contain iDVD but it works differently. Now I miss this software that was easy to work on. I couldn't fint it at the App.store. Where can I find it?

New mac book pro with max 98% batt

My new i7 macbook pro 15inch only goes to 98% battery when left plugged in . I tried to reset the battery by full draining and then re-charging . Did work for a few hrs ( got to 100 % ) but back to max 98% . Cannot get a full 100 % .... been left plugged in for 24hrs now .
Also in istats , it says I have had 17 battery cylcles ???? I just recived the computer onTueusday and have charged it once whe opening it up and once to try and reset the 98% issue .
Also have spinning wheel of death issue ... but thats an other problem all together .

First understand that the battery will not start charging until the capacity drops below 94%. Above that the charger turns off to prevent overcharging.
What you see now is perfectly normal. My battery typically shows 96%. Your line voltage can affect how the charger operates. Also, the charge percentage is based on the battery's "nominal" full charge capacity.
The indicated charge cycles most likely represent the results of testing the battery before installing in the computer.
