I need import dvd content to compressor or FCP to re encode for web

I need import dvd content to compressor or FCP to re encode for web
Is there a short cut?
When I tried, only the video went as the audio seems to be embedded. How can I encode a DVD to and Mpeg4 file with the audio?
Thank you all in advance.

Google MPEG Streamclip. It's free and works! This questions gets asked a lot. Take advantage of search when you can.

  • How to Import DVD content to FCP for editing

My clients always bring us DVDs (both PAL and NTSC formats) for us to insert certain segments into the FCP project.
    Questions:
    1. We can import the PAL VOB file into FCP PAL project, but the images seems to be broken up in thick horizontal lines. It seems to be related to the interlace but we cannot fix it in FCP, not matter using deinterlace, switch field, de-flicker.
    2. No audio can be import in this way.
We cannot digitally import those DVD files into FCP and we can only bring the DVD into FCP using component signals and analog audio through a DVD player.
Any suggestion on how to import the DVD digitally into FCP, both audio and video?
    Thanks in advance.
    Mike
(rem: those DVDs are most created by other post facilities, they are not encrypted movie DVDs, so this problem is not related to encryption or region codes.)

Did you search the forum for DVD ripping? This is a very common problem and discussed all the time
You have to rip the DVDs to a format that FCP understands like, for instance, DV video
You can use software like DVxDVD a decent commercial product or MPEG Streamclip which is free but requires Apple MPEG Playback Component to make it work

    I also have FCP HD

Try using Handbrake. It's a free download app that works well. It will allow you to convert the dvd to an mpg file.

  • Importing dvd content

i have been given high school football highlights on a dvd. these are raw clips, and i have been asked to edit these clips, add titles, etc. i am running the final cut pro editing suite, and am having trouble getting the clips off of the dvd i was given. fcp(4.0) gives me an error message when i try to import (1 recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown). apple dvd player plays the disc just fine.
i had someone try to convert the disc content into a different file type, in case there were some compatibility issues. he gave me back an mpeg4, which is supposedly supported by fcp. but fcp still gives me the same error message with the mpeg4. quicktime plays the mpeg4 just fine, and dvd studio will import the mpeg4. but i need to do the editing. imovie doesnt even let me select the mpeg4 for import (at least fcp lets me select it).
does anyone have any suggestion on how i can use these files in fcp? my fallback-fallback plan is to play the dvd on an external player and pipe it through my editing deck, and do a 'capture now'. but i would much rather be able to just import a usable computer file.

  • Importing DVD contents.... ???

I have a DVD of one of my favorite movies here at home. I want to put it in my iTunes Library so I can upload it onto my iPod. Is it possible for me to burn the contents of my DVD into my computer so I can import it into my iTunes Library? If so, how?

Sorry, but if you're referring to a commercial video DVD, cracking the copy protection (which is necessary to import the movie into your computer) is illegal in the US and so cannot be discussed here.

  • Importing DVD to FCP questions

I did a search on importing DVD content into FCP. I have read a lot of the articles but I still have questions.
I have about 8 DVD's that I have to pull clips from. There are about 18 clips. I know it is possible to just decode those clips. I am going to be editing this in FCP so here are my questions.
Which software is easier as far as setting in and out marks for the decoding of the DVD (mpegstreamclip or Handbrake)? I know I have to Encode the DVD to MPEG-4. Is this the default in mpegstreamclip or Handbreak? I also read that you have to demux the file before you import it into FCP. Is this an option in mpegstreamclip or handbreak?
One last thing, I know that a DVD is MPEG2 and I have to convert it to MPEG 4 but is it better to transfer the DVD to DVCAM and then capture the tape or use the software to rip the files. As far as quality, I would assume it is the same thing but I would like to hear it from the Gurus.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    thanks

Given the fact that both are free or very inexpensive downloads, give them both a try.
MPEG Streamclip extracts are variety of QT formats. And you do not have to encode the DVD to Mpeg4, instead mpeg2.
Not certain why you are calling something a fault of the program.
You might want to explain, and remember these programs do not work with encrypted DVDs.
    best wishes

  • Edu DVD in computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Educational DVD added successfully to computer iTunes but does not show up in iPad iTunes or iPad video.  How do I make the DVD contents available on the iPad?

Thanks!  For whatever bizarre reason for which I have no answer - I sync'd my iPad to my MBP the old fashion way (not iCloud) and the movie showed up just fine.  It is Nikon camera 'how to' video. I like to watch them for a better indepth discovery of what the camera can do.  The only weird thing about the hard wire sync is that it was placed in a catagory "home movies" which was never there before...actually it showed up in two places "home movies" and TV shows.
    So, thanks anyway!  Pretty cat!

  • Importing DVD's into Itunes with Windows

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows how to import DVDs into Itunes so that there is a way for Canadians to have movies on their ipods. I was also wondering does anyone know when Canada will get Tv Shows and Movies in the Itunes Store?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You might want to post this question in the Windows Forum rather than the Mac Forum. If you had a Mac I would suggest Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) = they are working on a Windows version.
As to getting TV and Movies you're in the same boat as those of us in the UK

  • Compressor in FCP does not support H.264 beyond 720p resolution

When trying to export 1080i material from FCP through compressor into H.264 format the resolution box in the Inspector only allows up to 720p. Is there a compressor or FCP update or is this all the compressor will do at this time?

Since the preset you've mentioned is one of the Apple Advanced Format Conversions and NOT one of the HD DVD presets I'm guessing that you are encoding for a Quicktime movie and not a DVD. Any of Apple's included presets can be duplicated and customized - but you need to start with the correct preset. You might also want to consult some sources and review the various HD formats and their parameters. Compressor is capable of converting and encoding a phenomenal number of video formats - it won't prevent you from doing things that don't necessarily make sense (so don't necessarily blame Compressor if you do something that results in dreadful degradation of quality).
There is no reason you can't output a Quicktime movie of your 1080i(50?60?) material using H264 - but whether that output is interlaced or progressive is not a function of H264. If your source material is interlaced, Compressor's Frame Controls can deinterlace it. This is functionality entirely separate from the choice of encoding method (H264). 1080p, however, is more than just deinterlaced 1080i material. 1080i is interlaced video with a frame size of 1440x1080 pixels at a frame rate of either 29.97fps (1080i60) or 25fps (1080i50). 1080p material has a frame size of 1920x1080 pixels and a frame rate of 24 (23.976). You would probably not like the result of a conversion of your 1080i source material to 1080p - the resultant video might be distorted and would no doubt suffer additional image degradation from being scaled up. Retiming of the frame rate isn't going to help either.
I think it unwise to force material not created in 1080p into such a format. You certainly won't "gain" quality. 1080i material is pretty impressive (IMHO), but if you really 'want' 1080p you need a camera that records in 1080p rather than trying to "fake it" in software. If your presentation is intended TV, interlaced source material is the norm (even for most flat screen LCD or plasma HD TVs). If your presentation is intended for computer playback then deinterlacing might be advantageous - but I wouldn't use Compressor's Frame Controls to accomplish this. Compressor's Frame Controls produce very good quality but are agonizingly slow. H264 encoding is very processor intensive and slow - combining it with Frame Controls just makes it worse.

  • Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion even though that has it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

Afraid Compressor won't work with MKV. If you have access to a system running an earlier version than Mavericks, and with Perian installed you can use MPEG Streamclip or Quick Time Pro to convert to a mov.

  • I need help importing dvds

i am using dvd decryptor to import dvds onto my computer. right now i am trying to import a season of seinfeld. when i import it i only get one episode. i want all of the episodes on the disc to go onto my computer. please tell me how to put all the episodes on the disc on the computer.
    Thanks

No, there are no instructions by Apple for how to get the library off your iPod and onto the computer.
You can select the iPod in iTunes then iTunes menu File -> Transfer purcahses. This will copy only iTuns purchssed items in to iTunes.
It will not transfer other items on your iPod, playlists, ratings, etc.

  • Importing DVD footage to iMovie!?

I'm a little frustrated, since I bought iLife mostly for iMovie (to edit my acting reel myself) and Garageband.
I've tried importing the contents of the DVD several ways (dragged it into the Media folder while iMovie was shut, then re-opening it) but nothing seems to work. Is it because:
    a- Perhaps I don't have the lastest OSX version - 10.4?
b- The contents in the DVD are not DV ready? (if so, how do I select the files to make sure they are DV ready?
    Help anyone?
    Thanks,
    Elizabeth

    Hi Liz,
I'm very sure, I've posted that workaround a thousands times here...
in case you're interested in the details:
for editing, you need every frame of the footage (you've heard, a video contains 30/25 frames a second...); DV, which is a socalled compressor, stores every frame (on tape, which has a similiar name, miniDV)... in result, you get ~13GB of data an hour of dv.... a video-dvd stores just 4.4GB... but you want to watch more then ~20minutes of video before changing the dvd... what to do? use another compressor, called mpeg2; that compressor is meant for playback... nice results, BUT not meant for editing purposes; the basic difference to dv is, it stores just the delta of many frames, that means, it stores the differences between two (or more) frames. if you want to edit such material, in a high computing process you have to "estimate" the content of every frame to restore it for editing purposes......
same with any other mpeg flavor, as is mpg1/2/4/hs263/hs64/.......
iM6 allows import of mpeg4 files, generated by some "toys" not meant for filming as mobile phones etc. that footage has to be converted first, into Apple Intermediate Codec.... high computation...... it would make absolute no sense, to convert mpeg2 content into mpeg4 into dv/aic.... mpeg codecs are lossy, meaning, any conversion results in a (dramatic) loss of pic quality.
socalled HD-camcorders store in mpeg2 too, but that is another cup of tea......
any detail in better english - do some wiki ;-)))

  • Playing back HD DVD content created in FCP

I have been using FCP for years, creating SD DVD's. I have recently purchased an HD camera (Sony HVR Z1U) This is a completely novice question, but I have to ask; what types of DVD players will support content created from FCP and DVD studio pro HD? Will I be able to burn my content to a DVD-R, or will I need to burn to a special DVD disc?
Completely novice questions, but I'm new to this.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Lars

You can write HD DVD type discs to DVD-R from your computer via DVD SP. It is not the full blown HD DVD spec, but think of it more like a really nice looking DVD. Limited in time compared to the amount of material that you can get on a true HD DVD, but it is not bad
Export the footage from Final Cut to Compressor and choose an HD m2v setting, then bring that and the audio into DVD SP (make sure it is a HD project). This should play on HD DVD Players (such as the Toshiba) though there are some wrinkles in there from time to time. Note you will need an HD DVD Player (not an SD nor a blu-ray)
For blu-ray you will need another application to author, such as Encore or Toast (which is a bit limited) and a blu-ray burner.
Though HD DVD has gone the way of the dodo, I have a HD DVD Player and it is nice to watch some one offs of the HD footage.
