I need iPod nano chromatic help.

So after I got my new Andriod phone at christmas I hadn't been using my iPod a lot. so after 4 months of not using it i went to turn it on, but it was showing an Apply symbol so I figured it was dead. I then tried charging it which worked, but now whever I try to plug my iPod nano into my iPod docking station it shows a black screen, then when I take it off it shows the Apple symbol and after 30 seconds it goes back to my menu screen. However, it does this to almost anything I plug it into besides my computer. I got my iPod nano chromatic in 2008 I believe. Is it just that the bttery is dying or is somthing wrong with my iPod.
Other facts: My iPod is just about 100% full of songs (including 1 video), haven't dropped it in a year or so, and it's 4 GB

Thank you :) I thought that that's what was happening. Seems like my iPod is reaching the end of it's life :(

  • New iPod nano chromatic crashes computer

I have an iMac version 10.4.11. My daughter just bought a new iPod nano chromatic and whenever we try to use it on that computer, it crashes and a window pops up demanding a mandatory restart. There was no way to even register the iPod and it never showed up in the iTunes library. My son has a first generation nano and my wife has the next generation of nano that came with the computer when we bought it, and both work fine. We returned the iPod nano chromatic and bought a new one, thinking it was a faulty iPod, but the second iPod caused the same problem. We tried the new one on my MacBook Pro 10.5.something new-generation laptop and it showed up and we registered it. When we tried the iPod again on the home computer and it still crashes it. We cannot use the iPod on my laptop because it belongs to my employer and if they need it back sometime, then the iPod ill be useless. So does anyone have a good answer besides "buy a new iMac?"

We did solve this problem by connecting the ipod charger directly into the computer instead of through the usb hub (which is a usb 2.0 so I don't know why that would be a problem and none of our other ipods have a problem connecting through the hub). A real hassle as the computer has only three usb slots (are you listening Apple?!). We had used the hub to hook up everything (camera, ipods, SD card reader) -- but kept the keyboard and mouse and the hub directly connected to the computer. Now we have the mouse on the hub instead to make room for the ipod on the computer usb. So far, so good, but it would make things much easier if the iMac would have more built in usb slots on the back.

  • Can't update the songs in a 7th Gen. iPod nano! Help!

Okay, I've been having problems with my 7th Gen iPod nano and I'm getting tired of this. A few days ago, I had a virus in my computer (the iPod wasn't hooked up at the time), and I had to restore everything in my computer. I downloaded iTunes again and when I plugged my iPod in the computer, the songs in my library are updated, but when I unplug the iPod nano, the songs in my playlist show songs that I had previously listened too a few weeks before the virus. But, now every time I plug it in to update the songs, my library on the computer updates, but the songs in the iPod still show the same list of songs from weeks ago. It doesn't show any sign of being updated. Plus, I looked up on the computer to see how to unfreeze the songs, and it tells me to hold the button for a few seconds and wait for the Apple Logo, I do that, but I don't see any Apple Logo. It doesn't seem to restore anything. Is my iPod not working now?
And I know that it's not an iPod nano, but I'm having the same problem with my 5th Generation iPod. I don't know what is going on, but I can't seem to update my 5th Generation iPod either.
Can someone help me with this? I don't know what else to do. I'm wondering if I need to buy new iPods, but I don't really want to spend the money to buy new iPods unless I REALLY need too.
    Thanks,
    Raven

Yes. My dad did a system restore and wiped everything out, and then reinstalled the computer. What do you mean to check my sync settings? Sorry, but whenever something happens to my ipods, I really have no idea what I'm supposed to do for them. If I can't get the ipods fixed, what's the next option?
    Thanks,
    Raven.

  • IPod Nano URGENT Help

    Thanks in advance.
So I was putting a few podcasts on my iPod Nano (First Gen Nano), and I pulled the charger out of the PC while adding a podcast. This deleted all my songs on my iPod, but it is also not letting it "sync" with itunes now.
"The iPod "Stevie's Ipod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (-48)"
I can't find any info on this, and think I have broken my iPod. Can anyone pleasseee help?

Well I would Send It Into Apple Because You Probally Corupted The Memory or Operating System. In that case they can fix it. Try to be careful because items like these need care.

  • Never used itunes before, have downloaded a song onto laptop but cant get it in ipod nano please help

New to itunes managed to download a song to laptop but cant get on to ipod nano(plugged into laptop) or iphone or ipad

    I have sorted it myself!!
Ipod is now in the top right corner, last time I clicked on it, it ejected it but by clicking on the actual ipod icon then it brings up your ipod. I restored it to factory settings and synced all my music and it now works again. Hope this can help anyone who ends up with the same problem.

  • **** iPod Nano- CASE HELP! ****

I simply have a question concerning an iPod Nano case. This case that I am referring to flips open to reveal the iPod inside. Now, to keep that flap closed, there is a magnet. I am just wondering if having a magnet that close to the iPod Nano could possibly cause any sort of damage. Thanks in advance for your help. =)

I had a look at this case sounds good, but when checked it out on the web, saw this review.
I tend to agree, if doesn't protect the screen what use is it.
Another thing to add about the review, sounds a little like they were promoting this web site, when checking it out, did have a review but has been archived, and they expected to buy $$ to read the cramy opinion.
If you click RainDayMagazine you notice they only posted on this topic and identical in each stream, purely promoters not ipod users helping others. Although does help find out about cases, finds all the posts on the subject.
I stick clear of this case. One last thing, you cant see your ipod either through the metal finish of this case.
    Google search on iKeychain case:-
There have been a lot of rumblings in the Apple community about how easily the iPod Nano’s screen gets scratched so I am surprised that iLounge rewarded this case with an 8 even though it doesn’t offer any protection to the screen. It’s a very stylish case and the keychain aspect of it makes it very chic, but if I can’t read the screen due to it being scratched up then the case serves me no purpose.
You have to assume that because this case fits on a keychain it will be surrounded by keys and from what I have learned through extensive research over the past 17 months is that keys scratch stuff, .....
Who be stupid enough to run over their ipod really, please.

Uninstalling and reinstalling a new version of iTunes shouldn't affect the music folder on your computer (and in any event, you do have a back up right?).
However, if you find you need to transfer music from iPod to iTunes, there are various 3rd party programs that will do this.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
If you have music purchased from the iTunes store on your iPod, then you can transfer it from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.

  • Basic ipod-nano questions - help !

    Hi
i dont know what fifith generation ipod refers to....BUT
i want to get one of the new 8bg ipod nanos.
    3 basic questions:
    1. I'm really confused about the current relationship between ipods & encripted/ copy protected mp3's. I don't buy from itunes (yet) - i just want to use my current mp3 collection for now.
Can i just drag & drop these onto the ipod without any hassle ???
    2. How many songs/mp3s does 8gb actually hold in terms of time/numbers ?
    3. I'm on a three year old emac with OS X 3.9 - Is this an issue or can i just expect to connect up & get on with it. ( I'm fire-wire & only USB 1. on this machine.)
    thanks someone....
    d

A Fifth Generation iPod refers to the 30GB, 60GB or 80GB iPod with video.
    1. If your current MP3s were not purchased from some other online store and are not copy protected they'll work with your iPod
    2. Around 2000 depending on song length and file format. The advertised song capacity of iPod is based on 4 minute songs encoded in AAC (MP4)format at a bit rate of 128 kbps. Longer songs and songs encoded at a higher bitrate or in uncompressed formats take up more space. You'll get a similar number if you MP3 are that bit rate or lower, the figures are pretty approximate.
    3. You won't be able to use Firewire to update, only to charge. USB 1.1 will be signigicantly slower that USB 2 but if you can live with that should work ok.

  • Ipod nano 8g help!!

hello i brought a 8g ipod nano today and when i put my songs in, how come it only has a little space!? it can only carry 17 songs but it says 2000 songs and also how come i dont have the coverflow or something!!? help

Your problem means you are storing uncompressed songs, which are huge files, about 10 to 20 times what an mp3 or aac takes.
You have to decide what you want, iTunes default settings are to encode music using AAC (the best compressed encoder), with high quality sound (128 kbps).
In Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Importing you can look and change your settings.
For listening on an iPod the default is very good, for music that is, for audio books you can use 48 kbps and get good results.
Bad news: you have to encode what you have all over again (actually you can use Advanced -> Convert selection to AAC), and delete the uncompressed files.

  • Ipod mini is same as ipod nano?  help

my daughter dropped her new ipod nano and now there is a picture of a safe lock thing with 4 number slots and it says enter code. i don't think we ever entered a code. i have no idea how to unlock the thing.
    any suggestions?

Before you restore it, try this.
Connect iPod to the computer you normally use it with (the first one that the iPod synced with) and open iTunes. Then disconnect the iPod from the computer and it should no longer be locked.
