I need more room to add apps

I know it sounds like a lot but I have filled up all 9 of my sections with apps and would like more room. I use most of them regularly and would like to add some more. Too bad we cannot create folders to categorize and store applications. So, is there a way to get more storage areas since there is so much extra space on the hard drive? I have a 16GB phone and over 1/2 of it is not used.

I have spent hours in the app store over the past weeks and only found 65 apps in total that I "kept", including the ones that come with the iPhone, after downloading and trying 100's of them.
Many of them are nonsense IMO or more than I want to pay and many dupes that do the same thing so you only need one out of the 10-25+ that are there.

    Delete the old backups..
There is a reason though for this to happen. Tell us what model Time Capsule you are using and what size disk it has .. how much free space is available and how much is now required. If you upgraded to Mavericks it probably needs to do a whole new  backup and simply doesn't have the space .. nor can it delete the old backup.
Please read Pondini FAQ for details of these issues.. deleting backups for example Q12

  • Mac Mini Needs more room

Hello, This is my first post.
Can someone advise me on the best course of action? My Mini keeps telling me that I need more room on my startup disk. What should I do?
I keep deleating files (podcasts, pictures, etc.) but it does it again within a few more days. This is also making my mini slow down. I thought about getting an external hard drive, but was not sure if that would take care of the problem.
    Any Suggestions?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Need more room! Internal HDs vs. External HDs

Hi, I own a late 2005 Dual core 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5 running OS Tiger 10.4.11.
I would like to upgrade to Leopard as well as needing more space for my music and photos.
I was looking into additional 1 Tb external storage options (just bought a 1 Tb Western Digital MyBook Home Edition last month) but am getting turned off by so many conflicting reviews of the various brands out there. I don't even trust the MyBook, to be honest (**** you Costco) although it's been fine so far. I know a drive is a drive and should be treated as though it WILL fail, possibly/probably unpredictably, at any point. But I am wondering if I am better off upgrading my internal drives. Are they generally more stable than external drives? I currently have both internal bays occupied with Hitachi Deskstar 500G drives; the second being a clone/backup of the primary drive. Bearing in mind that I will probably upgrade my computer sometime in late 2010, is it more convenient/economical to just get externals and hope for the best rather than swapping out the two internals?
If I go for internal drives, does my machine safely support sizes over 500 gigs? If so, do you recommend sticking with Hitachi Deskstar brand?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!!

Hi, yes, MyBooks are terrible, return it if you can & get one without any "Front Button Touch" feature.

  • There's a maximum size for the header-I need more room

This is a weird one for me. I am making a worksheet for my students and I'm making them in sets of four so they can work together. About 2/3rds of each page is the same, with a list of different words at the bottom. So I want to put the top 2/3rds of each page into the header, since I need to make 10 sets of these.
But I can't. Pages won't let me make a header that goes more than about a third of the way down the page. Anything entered lower than that is cut off.
What's the point of this restriction? Forget that—is there any way around it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Peter,
Don't use a header. Place the fixed text into a floating text box in a Pages word processing document.
Resize the box to fit within the document margins, and place it where you want it on the page.
Apply Wrap to prevent 'regular' text from sliding over or under the text box.
With the box selected, go Format > Advanced > Move Object to Section Master.
The text box (and its text) will appear on each page until you enter a Section Break. The rest of the page will contain whatever text you enter in that area.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Need more options to add new email address

Most of my setup works perfectly.
However, one of my email accounts requireds the [email protected] as a username for login rather than simply name. The result is that I get the error: "Unable to connect to the server. Please try again later." when I try to add the email account.
The workaround I use at the moment is to use an incorrect domain.com part for the original email address. The setup process then allows me to enter the mail server names and ports specifically. I can now receive pushed email on my phone.
However, when I try to send email from that account, the mail is rejected by the mail server since the "from" email address doesn't exist (since the domain.com I used is invalid.)
I REALLY would like to be able to specify all settings manually right from the start of the setup process in an "advanced setup" step. Give me the control to enter what I want, and leave the simple automatic works-most-of-the-time-for-most-people approach for those who don't need to flexibility.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I enter in my correct details on the "add new account" page.  I get the same error "Could not connet. Please try later".  Then enter this address into the browser  https://email.nokia.com/account/addEmailMoreInfoNoCorpSupport.action
(note, the first part of this link should be the same as the address in the bar BEFORE you type this.  If your address doesn't start with email.nokia.com then replace that with whatever you have)
This takes you to the manual settings screen where you can enter all the settings, but with the correct email address in the annoying read-only field!
Dear Nokia - can this have been so hard to allow in the first place?

  • Need more room in the browser name column

I'm using markers on my clips with extensive notes which because of their length run off the column because I can't drag it any further to the right. Is there a way to expand the width of the name column to accommodate this so I can read the entire note?

No, but you could keep the marker 'Name' a little more succinct and type the rest of your notes into the 'Comments' box. Then drag the Browser's Comments column next to the Name column.
    Hope that helps,

  • Need More Room

I have a 500 GB disk that I am using for Time Machine and it is full. Time Machine is deleting the oldest backup every time it runs. I do understand that this is normal in order to make room for the newest backup. Can I get a larger HD and transfer all of my old backups to the new disk?

Yes. You must clone your existing backup drive to a newly prepared drive:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
4.Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new external backup drive.
Source means the old external backup drive.
For additional help with the process check out User Tips for Time Machine for help with TM problems. Also you can select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine" to locate articles on how to use TM. See also Mac 101- Time Machine.

  • I may need more room on start up disc. How do I do that?

While watching a long video forwarded to me I got a message that I have little space left on my "start up" disc. What is that? How do I make more space on it?

If you're talking about formatting your hard drive it will erase everything on the partition your format. Try installing Lion first, or removing some software, photos, applications, etc.

I need help. I need to know why after paying $40 to upgrade my GB, I still can't add APP's or take photos.

" paying $40 to upgrade my GB"
That has nothing at all to do with the memory on your iphone.
    That is more cloud storage.
There is no way to get more memory on your iphone.
You will have to delete something.

  • Is there anyway to change/add more highlighter colors in Preview? I need more colors aside from those already provided in the app.

I'm a law student and I use the preview app extensively for reading cases. I need more highlighter colors aside from those already provided and it seems that there's no possible way of adding/changing the colors.

Unlike Preview, the Adobe Reader application allows you to change PDF highlight (comment) text colors via a standard Apple color chooser. Click Tools on the Reader Toolbar, and then Comment. The second button in the Comment Annotation section is highlight text, and defaults to canary yellow.
Highlight the document text, and then two-finger tap/control-right-click that highlighted text. On the contextual menu, you will see Properties…. The properties panel has a color well set to yellow. Click this color well, and a standard Apple color chooser will appear that allows you more creative control over your highlight color. When you click a color in the color chooser, it is not automatically updated in the color well, which remains dark grey. When you quit the color chooser, the selected color is updated in this color well and in your document. The next text that you select to highlight will receive a default yellow highlight.

  • I have an imac OS 10.4.11 and am using Safari 2.0.4. I would like to update this. I have 1 Gb memory. Do I need more memory to update my computer? I would also like to add an airport system and something where I could read word applications.

I have an iMac OS 10.4.11 and am using Safari 2.0.4 I would like to update. I have only original 1 GB memory-do I need more to update?I would also like to add an airport or router and would like to add something where I could open word applications. Is it hopeless?

Thanks. That's a Mid-2007 model with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. You can run any version of Mac OS X on it up to and including Mac OS X Lion, though for Lion you'd need to increase the memory to at least 2GB, something I'd recommend doing anyway; it's inexpensive and often can increase performance. Your iMac can take up to 6GB if RAM; 4GB is probably a good compromise between cost and performance with a 4GB kit costing about $50.00 US from a reliable vendor such as Crucial.
Your system already should have included the Airport wireless networking capability, so all you'd need would be a wireless (WiFi) access point (aka "router" or "base station") and an appropriate Internet connection. Apple's Airport Express and Airport Extreme, and the Time Capsule if you'd like to have a built-in hard drive for backups and extra storage, are good choices for a WiFi access point, but there are a number of other manufacturers.
As to upgrading the operating system, as I said, you can upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, or Mac OSX  10.7 Lion (the most recent release).  Apple no longer lists Mac OS X 10.5 on their web site, but if you call the Apple Store you may still be able to purchase a copy. Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is easily available as is Lion though with Lion you'd need the $69.00 USB flash drive installer or you'd need to purchase and install Snow Leopard first (other than on the flash drive, Lion is only available from the Mac App Store which can only be accessed from Mac OS X 10.6.6. or later). Before you decide, I'd strongly suggest you find out what versions of Mac OS X your applications and perpherals will support, either as they or with a free or affordable update. I'd suspect most of your applications and peripheral drivers would need to be upgraded, at least to support Snow Leopard or Lion. If you consider Lion, make sure of your applications; Lion will no longer run PowerPC-only applications, so many older appliations will not run under Lion.
Finally, as to Microsoft Word documents which is what I presume you mean, you can of course just purchase Microsoft Office. There are other ways to work with Word documents, though. If you just need to view Word documents, TextEdit in MOSX 10.6 and 10.7 (and perhaps 10.5; I can't remember) can open and view many Word Documents. For something a bit more capable, you can purchase Apple's Pages, part of the iWork suite and now available separately for Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.7, or try one of the open-source solutions such as LibreOffice.
    Regards.

ihone 4s lost all contacts. I tried to restore from backup but the error message now says there is not enough room. I have deleted all the apps without making any more room on iphone. Why did contact disappear and how do I get them back?

In the simplest sense, archiving a file means making a copy that you never change and never discard. You already know how to do that.
iPhoto has built-in archival features, in the sense that it saves all versions of an image that you've modified. As long as you have adequate backups, you don't necessarily have any reason to archive an iPhoto library. If you want to delete images from the working library but still have access to them in case you change your mind, then you do need to archive those images. I don't have a specific suggestion as to how you should do that. You might post a question in the iPhoto forum.

How do I empty trash after deleting music, apps and photos from my iPhone to make more room for upgrading to iOS 8.1?  It says I don't have enough room to upgrade so I have deleted some of everything but do not see an improvement in my storage space. Help?

    No need to empty anything.
You can update by connecting your phone to iTunes on your computer. This way you bypass the space limitations.
