I need more space on my icloud without buying more space

can someone please direct me as to what i should to do get more space without deleting pictures?

Are you running short of space on your device or in icloud - those are two different issues.  If running short of space on your device, the only solution is to begin deleting things, like video, that you don't really need.  If the space is short in icloud, then you have to buy more space, you can't get it without buying.

  • How can get more space on my icloud without buying more storage? What can i delete (passbook, previous updates, what?)

I need an additional 3.1GB of storage to backup my phone. under documents and data i have 481.1KB with Passbook which i don't think i use ever and I have previous backups on here. Then I also have under iCloud i have mail, contacts, calendar, reminders, and safari on as well as photos and documents and data (which i don't know what that is). what can i delete? i can't buy more space right now.

The only thing under manage storage is 3 previous backups, passbook (under documents and data) which i have no idea what it will remove if I delete it and mail (under mail)

  • I am getting daily msgs that my 4s cannot be backed up to icloud without buying more storage.

In asking around it seems most people I talk to are getting the same message.  Is this just Apple's way of getting more revenue?  I even tried removing all my photos, changing the settings so almost all the apps don't sync to iclould and no change.  My biggest concern is over my contacts and my calander, (it would be nice if my photos could be saved too) one of the reasons I went to the iphone a few years around was the icloud concept and it was working fine until about six month ago.
Are others experiencing this problem or doesn't anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

The app list under Backup Options doesn't include everything that is backed up.  It only includes apps that you have the option to exclude.  One in particular to pay attention to is Messages.  If you have lots of photos and videos in your messages this can add up quickly.  It isn't listed because you don't have the option to exclude it.  You can check the size of your Messages app by going to Settings>General>Usage...allow the apps list to open, then look for Messages.  If it's too high, you would need to delete some of your conversations or at least some of the photos and videos imbedded in them.

  • Can I join icloud without buying a new computer?

If I have 10.6.8 2 ghz intel core duo must I buy a new computer to install lion and join icloud?

The system requirements for Lion state:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
If your current computer doesn't meet those requirements you won't be able to use iCloud on it.
iCloud also runs on iOS 5 mobile devices, so you could sign up on one of those if you have one, but not sync with your desktop Mac applications. You can access iCloud through a browser on a Snow Leopard Mac.

  • How do you delete files from iCloud WITHOUT having them deleted from devices?

I need to delete files from iCloud WITHOUT having those files deleted from all my devices.  How do I do that?

Just got off the phone with Apple customer service.  It seems there is no around this problem.  Once you use iCloud, you're screwed. The day you decide you don't want to have certain files store in iCloud, but you still want the files accessible on your computer, you have to spend valuable time copying/hiding a set of files on each device, and then re-setting up those same files in each device they way they should be once you delete them out of iCloud.  Same thing if you decide to cancel your lCloud account.
No software should have the ability to hijack your data this way.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I need more space and quota for my iCloud calendar than only 25.000 events or 24 MB.. What should I do..?

It can't be expanded.  You'll have to use a different calendar service if iCloud limits aren't enough.

How much space is used by your Other? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • I got a false email stating I needed more space in my ICloud account. I think it may have dropped a virus.

I received an email that I presumed was from Apple stating that I needed additional memory in my iCloud account. When I opened it a Chinese Lumber store advertisement started. It took a few seconds to stop it and I immediately deleted it. I suspect I have a security breach and my now have an infected computer. This kind of thing was routine with Microsoft. Any information on this email?

There are no virus threats for the Mac at the moment. There is other malware though.

Not without voiding the warranty. No publicly available device is officially supported by that USB port.

  • Doesn't Time Machine delete old backups when it needs more space?

I've had time machine running for a long time now. It worked flawlessly for quite some time.
Today it gave me the error that there was not enough free space on the disk to complete the backup (the error message says something like there is 360 GB of data on the Time Machine drive already, 140 GB of free space and it would require more than that to complete my backup). I have a 500 GB Time Machine disk and my Mac has a 500 GB hard drive, so I should technically never run out of space.
The Time Machine almost acts like this is the first time I've ever backed up, which is not true. Shouldn't Time Machine delete old backups to make space for the new? What's even weirder is that if I open the "Star Wars" window of Time Machine I only see one backup from March 31, 2011, but I have been running Time Machine for well over a year now. I'm totally confused as to what happened. Any advice on how to get my Time Machine back up and running (without buying a new drive) would help!

You see only one backup in the Time Machine window because Time Machine has deleted the older backups to make space to do the current backup.
Time machine needs some working space to do its backups, and so backing up a 500GB drive onto a 500GB time machine volume is not ideal.
However, I do essentially the same thing, and what I do, when I have this problem, is exclude things from the backup.
First off, figure out what you changed. If you moved things from one partition to another, then that will cause a backup of the size of the thing that was moved. This may be why you have a large backup.
When I have this problem, I exclude large things that have changed recently from the backup. This makes the backup smaller, and means that there is less working space needed. I do this until I get a successful backup. Then I remove things, one by one, from the exclusion list, and back up after each one.
So, for instance if you just put 4 new folders on your drive, each of which s 20GB of data and they are named A, B, C and D, add all four to the exclusion list, do a backup, then remove A from the exclusion list (leaving B, C & D on it) and do a backup, and continue like this, adding 20GB of backup data each time until none of the new data is on the exclusion list and you get a completed backup.
Another possible issue, if you use multiple partitions, is that Time Machine may be keeping an obsolete backup of a partition that you previously reformatted. To see if this is the case, go into time machine (The universe interface) and go back to the most recent backup it shows. Click on your computer and see what partitions show up-- are any of them old ones that have been reformatted and renamed? You may be storing a duplicate backup because Time Machine does not realize that the disk that went away isn't coming back (because it has been reformatted as a different partition)
You can right-click on these items and remove them from your backup by sleecting "Delete all backups of...." This will free up space as well.

  • Since installing mavericks my WD time machine doesn't work, it keeps insisting it needs more space? This wasn't an issue an hour earlier?

Since installing mavericks my WD time machine doesn't work, it keeps insisting it needs more space? This wasn't an issue an hour earlier?
Id also like to know if Powerpc software will be supported? I have C&C Generals on disc but it doesnt run now mavericks is installed?!
    Annoying!

Regarding time machine, it probably took a full backup after you put mavericks on. To investigate, open Console, select "All Messages" and type "backup" (without the quotes). It will then only show you backup-related messages. If you're not sure how to read those, copy them and paste them into a reply here; we can investigate the situation.
I don't know anything about your PPC software issue, sorry.

  • TS4009 The error that my icloud account is full and need more storage stays on the screen of my Ipad2. It won't allow me to get more, turn it off or do anything on it. Help!!

The error that my icloud account is full and need more storage stays on the screen of my Ipad2. It won't allow me to get more, turn it off or do anything on it. Help!!

Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears
Then do some house cleaning in iCloud (or purchase more storage)
Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > Select a device if more that one > Show All Apps and turn off some apps that you don't need or care to be backed up.
Also, connect to iTunes and empty your Camera Roll onto your computer. Photos & videos tend to eat up a lot of space.
